IPhone Newbie Calendar Questions

I finally got an iPhone (to use with my new MacBook) and have everything working perfectly, but I can't seem to be able to do the following basic "business" things:
- View my Calendar's To Do list: everything I've read says that I need a third-party app, but none of those seem to synch to the To Do list on my Mac's Calendar.
- Call a number that's listed on my calendar invite: is my workaround just writing it down on a piece of paper?
- Accept/decline a meeting invite from Mail: all I get is an ICS icon that I can't do anything with.
Thanks in advance, Apple gurus!

Unfortunately, you cannot do any of those. Syncing iCal's ToDo's is not supported. There are many 3rd party To Do apps with iPhone and Mac clients, though. You cannot dial out from phone numbers in events (which personally frustrates me, since I have many teleconferences!). The iPhone's Mail app cannot handle .ics files.
You can submit feedback to Apple: http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html.

  • IPhone 2G Calendar question, PLEASE.

All I see for the calendar here is about syncing. But I have no problems with that.
My problem is that my Calendar goes from Sunday to Saturday and I'm very used to calendars that go from Monday to Sunday.
Is there ANY possibility to change it?? I posted this on several online question sites and no one knew and I don't see it here either. Is there a possibility??
    Thanks a bunch.

This is determined on your iPhone at Settings > General > International > Region Format.
You must select a Region Format with a default calendar that goes from Monday to Sunday.

  • How do I delete a recurring event that appears on my iPhone's calendar, but not on my computers or iCloud?

I can click on the event in the iPhone's calendar, but the "Edit" option  and "Delete" option are unavailable. The event does not appear on any other device or in iCloud. Am I destined to see this recurring event forever and ever? Is it an unkillable zombie that will shamble through the corridors of my electronic life in perpetuity?

Okay. Awesome! I feel like such a dodo that was so freaking simple!
Now I have another simple person question that feels stupid too but oh well apparently my brain doesn't like to work at 5 a.m. when I am in bad pain but...
Okay, so I've deleted them from my phone manually, they are already ALL on my mac, when I plug my phone back into my mac to sync music and any New photos, will the old photos that I deleted that are on the mac, go back on the phone? Der. I feel like I already know the answer, but I'm asking anyways...
Please, thank you, and sorry in advance!

  • I can't seem to update icloud's calendar via my iPhone's calendar. Also, iCal on Mac follows iCloud so when I sync iPhone to Mac it becomes a even more confusing situation...

Pardon my ignorance. I have scoured the forums and no one seem to touch on the exact subject I am talking about.
I can't seem to update iCloud's calendar via my iPhone's calendar with all connectivity turned on (sync, push, pull, slap whatsoever).
Also, iCal on Mac follows iCloud (sluggishly and not due to connection problem, so i'd nice to have a status bar telling me whether or not it's active and doing some updating) so when I sync iPhone to Mac it becomes a even more confusing situation...
    Simplified version:
-Events created on the iphone doesnt get on icloud.
-When iphone is synced with ical on mac and changes are made on Mac, changes are not immediately reflected on iphone unless clicked "sync"
-I just want to view a live ical at all times without going to safari and opening up the web iCal. I want to view a 100% live iCal on the native iCal via iPhone. Like google docs! Is that too much to ask!?
Iphone seemed to have a "push" or "sync in this many minutes" option for iCal, but that seemed like it's only receiving changes, and not send out changes made via phone. Very confusing, very annoying!

Download iTunes using the tab at the top of this page. Then run the update with iTunes closed.

  • How do I sync my iPhone 4 calendar to my mac laptop

I am trying to sync my iphone 4 calendar to my mac pro laptop with no success.  Does anyone have this problem or instructions on how to make it work.

I highly recommend using iCloud or Gmail for cloud syncing of your caledar.
Follow this guide to get the events on the computer so that you can then sync it to the cloud.

  • How do I sync my iPhone 4S calendar to my MacBook with the new OS?

I just upgraded and lost my calendar settings? I am not on iCloud.
    Thanks for any help.

    Hey nancygrannis,
To sync your iPhone's calendar with your MacBook, you'll want to follow the instructions in this article:
iOS: How to transfer or sync content to your computer
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1296
There is also a section that goes into further detail regarding calendar syncing which you can find towards the bottom.

  • Iphone 5 calendar issue

Iphone 5 calendar won't display the final day of an event that covers more than one day. E.g. An event beginning on the 25th July at 8am and set to finish on the 30th at 10pm, ordinary calendar would only show dots for the 25th to the 29th. In the text box beneath it intermittently shows that there is actually something happening on the 30th without the dot.

Also happens with my fathers iPhone 4S, I assume it's an IOS issue in that case.

  • IPhone 4 Calendar Entries: List Display Issue

I believe a derivation of this issue has been posted a handful of times already, but I wanted to add to the pile in the hopes that Apple addresses a calendar bug. My iPhone 4 is running OS 4.2.1, and I sync my calendar with Microsoft Outlook 2007 via a PC.
Recently I've noticed that when changing time zones, the "List" view of my iPhone calendar has trouble displaying the proper date of appointments when they are entered or changed in the iPhone directly. Two "Tue Nov 30 2010" gray bars will suddenly appear, for example, and previously entered appointments for that date will scatter amongst these two sections haphazardly.
Interestingly enough, when clicking into "Day" or "Month," these entered appointments will display properly. It appears, then, that this issue is only present in the "List" view.
Somewhat bizarrely, these sections in the "List" view will compress back into one (as normal) when the offending appointment is deleted on the iPhone. Moreover, when new appointments are entered via Outlook and synced with the iPhone, the calendar displays as normal in "List" view.
This issue has plagued my phone for a handful of months now when I transition time zones, but only recently has it not reset itself upon syncing with my computer. This leads me to believe that the issue may have been exacerbated by OS 4.2.1. For what it's worth, time zone support is "off" on my phone (meaning appointments display in local time).
Any help you can provide with this issue is appreciated.

Good to hear that I am not alone.
I have the same problem (for some time now, not just 4.2.1). I have tried deleting my calendar and resynching with Exchange with a reboot in between (as suggested in another problem report), but that does not help.
For me the problem started when I started bidirectional synching with Exchange (updates on iPhone are sent to server and updates on server are sent to iPhone, immediately in both directions) -- as if the iPhone calendar list search does not work well because the entries are "remote" (actually stored on Exchange server?).
There are similar quirks with Contacts but Calendar List Search is unusable!

  • Time zone issue when copying Outlook/Mac invitation to iCal or adding it via iPhone/iPad calendar

    Hello everyone,
I'm facing a situation when every time I receive an invitation comes from a different time zone neither iCal, iPhone’s Calendar nor iPad’s Calendar recognizes it correclty.
Below there are a couple of examples, but before, a few information about my environment: Mac OS X Lion with Outlook for Mac (non-exchange user), I’m using iCloud, and my iPhone and iPad are running iOS5. And BTW, I’m not intending to sync anything with Outlook… I know it does not support iCloud syncing, I just trying to live without that.
    First example.
I got an invitation to a meeting on Monday 5pm-6pm CET, but I’m in GMT-2. It should appear to me as an event to occur on Monday2pm-3pm (GMT-2). In fact only Outlook shows the right time, however when I dragged and dropped that appointment from Outlook’s calendar to iCal it was copied but is did not consider the time zone, that means in the iCal, the appointment was set to occur from 5pm-6pm (GMT-2), instead of 2pm-3pm (GMT-2).
    Second example.
I created an appointment in Outlook by myself, jsut to check if that would be something related to the senders’ computer (Outlook/Windows user), then I set that meeting to occur on Friday 5pm-6pm (UTC+1) and I sent an invitation to a friend of mine (Outlook/Mac User). In my Outlook the appointment was created correctly, that means, on Friday 2pm-3pm (GMT-2), however, when I copied that meeting to iCal it did not consider the time zone, appearing to be Friday 5pm-6pm (GMT-2), and when my friend opened the invitation in his iPhone, which is also set as GMT-2, that also appeared to him as a meeting on Friday 5pm-6pm (GMT-2).
I also checked all possible time zones configurations, in the iPhone, iPad, iCloud and in my MacBook (iCal and Outlook)…all time zones are enabled and configured as GMT-2.
As an last shoot, I decided to download a third-party software, which is integrated with iCal and iCloud, in order to check if that could be an Apple’s issue. I downloaded and installed the BusyCal (from BusyMac). And guess what?! When I dragged & dropped the same meetings I described above from Outlook to BusyCal, it worked perfectly!! And BusyCal sent the proper information to iCal and my iPhone/iPad over iCloud. Which means: #1 there would be no issue with my configurations, and #2 BusyCal does really takes into consideration time zones, which is something that Apple’s calendars looks like do not.
It will not solve the issue I'm having with my mobile devices, but at least is a workaround… BTW, an expensive workaround, because BusyCal costs $49, by now I’m using the 30 days trial version.
So friends, is there anyone who could help to find a real solution J , or at least, a free workaround L
Thank you in advance and I apologize for this “article”.
PS: I've been using Mac for 4 years now, and this is the first time I was stucked ina situation like that... and I don't know who to blame... Microsoft or Apple? This I know... syncing Apple's calendars with Microsoft's calendars, should be effortless... and it is always a pain in... that place...

I am having a similar problem:  invitations sent (presumably from outlook), when accepted from my iPad, appear in the calendar with the wrong time zone.
this actually happens even when the meeting is in the same time zone I'm in:  I am in GMT -5, and even when the meeting is in GMT-5, it defaults to GMT (or, in some instances, PST).  My settings have my time zone set correctly.
    Any help much appreciated.
PS:  Using iPad original wit iOS5

  • IPhone 4S Calendar will not synch to OutLook 2010 from 1 of 2 phones

Problem: iPhone 4S Calendar will not synch to OutLook 2010 from 1 of 2 phones. Contacts synch fine. Was no problem in the past until...
Sorry for the length. Trying to give all info I can.
Summary: Had to get motherboard fixed under factory warranty which included new hard drive, and reinstall everything on an HP DV7 laptop. So this is a clean installation of everything on the laptop (Win7). Configuring iTunes and Outlook 2010 for two iPhone 4S users (myself and wife) was my last step. Re-established each user account to iTunes. Calendar synch problem popped up on one of two iPhones that did not exist before.
Prior history: all synchs worked great prior to the clean install and I never had a problem.
Config: Windows 7, two iPhone 4S, Week Calendar apps on both. All software up-to-date on iPhones and Win7 (fanatic about that). Had OL2010 PST datafile backups and simply used them for the OL re-installs. OL2010 makes that easy. Each user has their own Win7 login to keep our stuff separate. Of course, OL has Calendar as part of its install.
Week Calendar apps on both are configured with same calendars (Calendar, Home, My Birthdays, Work). Verified each iPhone Calendars app, Calendar button: From My PC listing has all these checked: All From My PC, Calendar, Home, My Birthdays, Work; Other: Birthdays.
Difference: In using iTunes to synch, iTunes said the iPhone account was different from the OL account and asked to merge or replace. Apparently this is normal for iTunes on a new install (since basically it is) synching to prior synched stuff.
iTunes settings for both: Connect iPhone for each user and checked INFO settings for Contacts and Calendars.I used “selected calendars” and verified. Each user has all four calendars checked.
NOTE: Prior to each users first synch below, neither user had anything in OL2010 Calendar. Can't blame on recurring events problems in OL. ALL the events are on the iPhones and are being synched TO the PC to populate OL2010 Calendars.
Additional Note: Contacts was already loaded into OL from my backups so synching has no problem.
User 1 iPhone: Success 1st try.
In iTunes, selected “merge info” instead of replace.
Results: User 1 synched fine from iTunes to OL2010 including the 4 Calendars (Calendar, Home, My Birthdays, Work). 4 calendars showed up. No problems at all. Wonderful! expected behavoir.
User 2 iPhone: Still failing to synch.
In iTunes, selected “replace” instead of merge info. Apple’s dialog is incredibly confusing and non-explicit on what copies to what and what it does.
Results: User 2 synched fine from iTunes to OL2010 for Contacts. DID NOT synch the 4 Calendars (Calendar, Home, My Birthdays, Work). Only calendar that shows up in OL is Calendar and it doesn’t contain any data. iTunes has no errors and the synch status bar indicates everything went fine.
Tried: I deleted the PST files and copied the backup files back to OL to start over. ITUNES no longer gives me the merge info versus replace option. I’ve synched multiple times but the calendar data will not synch.
Not Tried: Creating the same remaining named calendars (Home, My Birthdays, Work) in OL and trying again.
    ALL suggestions is greatly appreciated.

Ok, new info. This gets better and better.
In OL2010, the Calendar in the navigation pane had no arrow indicating it had subcalendars within it. I right clicked on Calendar and chose New Calendar. It gave me a list of the existing calendars that were missing !!
When I cancelled, there was an expand arrow next to Calendar in the Navigation pane !!!!!
Expanding it showed the unchecked missing calendars. I checked them and synched again.
WRONG THING TO DO! ALL my wife's calendar entries in her iPhone since the laptop went down 3 weeks ago DISAPPEARED. No warnings, nothing at any step of this process. The OL files overwrote the iPhone data.
I can't find any way to get them back as this **** iStuff relies on iTunes for everything.
Is there any way to get her files back from before this synch?
Is there no way to save data files off the iPhone w/o iTunes?
Why doesn't iTunes let you control the direction of data transfer?
I now have one very ****** off wife.

  • Can't update iPhone 6 calendar

I'm completely mystified by my iPhone 6 calendar syncing behavior. I've read all the posts I could find on calendar syncing and most don't apply.
Before iPhone 6/IOS8, I could put entires on my iCal calendar on my Mac (including iCal entries dragged and dropped from my work Outlook calendar) and they would show up on my iPhone when I synced. Importantly, if I deleted an entry from iCal because an event was canceled, it would be removed from my iPhone. No longer.
Now I cannot get the iPhone calendar to update from iCal on the Mac. (I am not using iCloud for my calendars.) Even when I have changed the default calendar on the iPhone. I have experimented with different calendar choices in iTunes. I have checked the "Advanced" button to replace all the iPhone calendar data with what is on the Mac. Nothing works.
I cannot delete incorrect calendar entries on the iPhone. There is no "edit" or "delete" button. Despite what other posts have said, double tapping does no good. Swiping does no good. Quitting the calendar app does not good. Powering off the ipHone and restarting it does no good.
My iPhone calendar now only lets me make entries directly on the iPhone; I can't sync from anywhere.
My calendar is effectively useless now, as it is filled with entries for meetings that have been cancelled or rescheduled.

I suggest you reconsider your decision not to use an iCloud calendar.  It sounds like doing so will introduce the features you are looking for.

  • Events created on my iPhone 5 calendar are no longer syncing with iCal.

Events created on my iPhone 5 calendar are no longer syncing with iCal on my Macbook Pro (Lion OSX). It works fine the other way around.
I can't understand why, and cannot find a solution. Please help!

You can no longer sync via iTunes. That method of sync was removed (and the 1000+ post thread is arguments over things tangientally related to that).
You need to sync via other means than iTunes, then.
One option is to use iCloud. If you sign into iCloud on all your devices, and then make sure your calendars are in the "iCloud" section on your devices, they should sync.
If you don't want to use iCloud, you could use Google calendars, they operate much the same way (but may be less reliable).
Or if you use Exchange for work, you could sync that way.
Or if none of those are acceptable, you could install OS X Server and set up the calendar server on your local network and use it to sync. This is fairly straightforward "for setting up a UNIX calendar server" but it's not trivial and beyond the scope of a forum post to explain it all

  • IPhone 3GS calendar is no longer syncing with iCal

iPhone 3GS calendar is no longer syncing with iCal since upgrade to Lion. No issues prior to upgrade. Ideas?

I am having the same problem.  I have snow leopard and since I upgraded to itune 5.0, I have had nothing but problems.  In icloud, all of my events quadrupled which then caused all my ical events to do the same on my computer and phone. What a nightmare!  The apple support guy had never seen anything like it!  I have since cleaned up my calendar on both my phone and macbook, but now any event I add to my phone does not show up during sync.  I noticed that when I go into mail, contacts, calendars and then go into my gmail account, the calendar button is set to off. If i try to switch it on, I get a message asking what I would like to do with the local calendars on my phone.  I am afraid to do anything so I just cancel!  Any thoughts?  The calendar on my computer is current so I could always over write my phone during a sync--but still unsure.  Thanks
