IPhone no longer recognized after installing iTunes 9.2

Hi there. I have an original iPhone, a Powerbook G4 running OS 10.4.11, and everything was working perfectly until I updated iTunes to 9.2. Now when I connect by iPhone to the computer literally nothing happens. The phone does not show up. It does not open iPhoto or iTunes. I have restarted my computer several times, reset the phone several times, and still nothing. I am planning to buy the new iPhone as soon as it is available, but in the meanwhile I am really concerned about not being able to sync to iTunes. I would appreciate any advice! Thanks.

I'm running OSX 10.6.4 on MacBook Pro (a couple of years old) ... and my (original) iPhone is recognized just fine by the new iTunes 9. I too am anxiously awaiting arrival of my iPhone 4 ... and got the same kind of shipment information as other folks described on the iPad; i.e. being shipped direct from China via Hong Kong. I sure hope they've got the bugs worked out of that process since the iPad 3G fiasco. I was also amused (NOT!) by "additional information" in the shipping-email I got from Apple. Basically it says that if there is a delay in activating the phone via iTunes, "trust us" that Apple and AT&T will be working to get it activated as quickly as possible and will send out an email when it is activated --- in other words "don't call us, we'll call you".
David Brooks during his commentary last night on The News Hour made some comments about how business processes are really starting to break down in this country. I couldn't agree more. Last Thursday's mess was inexcusable! You'd think that the huge (and incredibly profitable) corporations like (BP), Apple, and AT&T would spend as much time and effort and money to get their processes in as good a shape as their products! Urrrrrr! Let's hope that the iPhone enrollment process goes better.

  • ITouch no longer recognized after installing iTunes 8 and Leopard

I recently installed the new version of iTunes, which prompted me to download the new version of Quicktime, which then prompted me to install Leopard, which I did. Now I have the new version of iTunes, but my iTouch is no longer coming up as a recognized device. My connecting cable still works because my iTouch is charging when I connect it to my Powerbook, but the device is not recognized by my computer, and I've run out of options. I have tried restarting my iTouch, and also using a different connecting cable-- nothing works. Any advice?
    Thanks a million.

    Hello,
Just wanted to make sure you've also restarted the computer, in addition to restarting the iPod touch. For the time being, try to connect the iPod with the USB cable that came with it, and make sure it's being connected directly to the computer, and not through any external USB hubs or anything of the sort. Also, if you haven't tried this, try connecting the iPod to a different USB port.
Since installing Leopard, double check your Software Updates to make sure there's nothing else pending that you might need. (Just click on Software Update in your Apple menu).
If that hasn't worked it out, you might try reinstalling Apple Mobile Device Support, which is what allows the iPod touch to communicate with your computer and iTunes.
First, drag iTunes from your Applications folder to the Trash.
    Then, delete these files:
    (1) AppleMobileDeviceSupport.pkg located in: Macintosh HD/Library/Receipts/
    (2) AppleMobileDevice.kext located in: Macintosh HD/System/Library/Extensions/
    Restart your computer
    Download and install iTunes again

  • IPod Touch 1g not being recognized after installing iTunes.

    Win 7 Ultimate
    itunes 9.0.2 64 bit
With iTunes or any Apple software uninstalled the iPod is recognized in device manager under portable devices> Apple iPod. I can browse to it within Win Explorer. All looks normal.
Once I install iTunes and I plug in the iPod a popup informs me that it's imstalling Apple Mobile Device USB driver (and is ready to use). Then iTunes starts up and another popup informs me that device driver was not successfully installed. This time MTP USB Device. It then switches to device unplugged, without touching it. Itunes then reports an error (iTunes could not connect to this iPhone because an unknown error occurred (0xE8000065). Device manger then reports a warning for Portable devices > MTP USB Devices. The device status reports This device cannot start (Code 10) (Apple iPod went away)
I have tried uninstalling several times. Different iPods. iPod and cable work just fine on another laptop. Updated MB BIOS.
I need some more clues on what might be wrong. Anybody!!

    Hi, jodie_0182.
I would recommend the steps in the article below.  See the section labeled Verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed > For Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8 > Update the Apple Mobile Device Driver.

  • ITouch no longer syncs after install iTunes 11.1.3.8/ iStore Authorization problem

I installed iTunes 11.1.3.8 last Monday on my daughter's computer.
While I was at work on Tuesday, my daughter connected her iTouch to the computer.  My wife reported that all her music was missing and she was trying to put everything back.  Subsequently, all the songs got deleted from my daughter's iPod Touch and now it appears unable to sync with the computer.
The songs are on the computer, but nothing on the iTouch.
When we try to sync, we get the following message on the computer's iTunes:  "<daughter's> iPod could not be synced because this computer is no longer authorized for purchased items that are on this iPod. To authorize this computer for items purchased from the iTunes Store, choose Store > Authorize this computer."
We have tried reauthorizing, authorizing, de-authorizing, reauthorizing... all sorts of authorizing.  No success.
Any help would be appreciated.  No iPod => my daughter is unhappy (understatement).

  • Ipod not recognized after installing itunes 7.3

I've upgraded to itunes 7.3 on my Windows Vista desktop and now none of my IPODs are recognized and I'm getting the following message:
"your IPOD needs to be reformatted for use with Windows"
I've double checked and my IPOD shows that it is formatted for windows. And, when I go to try to restore my IPOD, I get an error message saying that it cannot be restored.
I do NOT have this problem on my Windows laptop - everything works fine with iTunes 7.3 on my laptop.
Is this a problem with Windows Vista and iTunes 7.3??
    Does anyone have any ideas?

macfixit.com has instructions on how to go to oldapps.com and revert to iTunes 7.2 :
iTunes 7.3 (#3): Downgrading to iTunes 7.2; Deleting and restoring the library for -50 errors; more
Downgrading to iTunes 7.2 For many serious issues with iTunes 7.3, the only viable fix is reversion to iTunes 7.2. Unfortunately, Apple does not maintain old versions of iTunes. As such, if you did not keep a copy of the iTunes 7.2 installer (as described here), your options are limited. Fortunately, OldApps has a mirrored copy of iTunes 7.2 available for download.
In order to downgrade to iTunes 7.2, follow these steps:
    1. Delete the following files:
The iTunes 7.3 application (located in /Applications)
    com.apple.iTunes.plist (from ~/Library/Preferences)
    iTunes.pkg (from /Library/Receipts)
    iTunesX.pkg (from /Library/Receipts)
    2. Download and install iTunes 7.2

  • IPods not recognized after installing iTunes 7.3

After installing 7.3, none of the iPods in the house (a Mini, a Nano and an iPod Photo) will boot up into iTunes. I have gone through the first four "R"s, but am unable to even attempt the "restore" as it requires that iTunes recognize my iPod.
"1) Make sure you've reinstalled the latest version of iTunes.
    2) Open iTunes, and then connect your iPod to your computer.
    3) After a few moments, it will appear in the Source list in iTunes."
By "Source list", I assume they mean the entries under the heading "Library" (Music, Movies, etc.) because that's where the iPod usually shows up, right?
In any case, none of our iPods will show up anywhere on the iTunes.
I have the installation disc from our most recent purchase (the Nano last fall or summer, IIRC). Would it work to re-install it or does anyone have any other suggestions?
My apologies if this has been covered here. Thanks in advance from an Apple Discussions newb.

  • Ipod and iphone no longer recognized after upgrade to 8.0.1

I just updated my iTunes to the 8.0.1 version and now none of my ipods or my iphone connect with itunes AND they won't charge via the usb cable that connects them. They worked perfectly until I installed the upgrade. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this? If I uninstall iTunes and replace with previous version, will the tv shows I"m currently downloading that say 8.0.1 is required for their download, still play? Will my library still work?
    Thanks for your help.

Well another reboot seemed to fix it for now. Problem solved

Help. After months of delaying doing the update for my iPhone 3gs, I finally hooked it up tonight.  Well half way through the update an "unexpected error" occured.  Now my phone only has the 'connect to itunes' screen.  I've tried rebooting my pc and phone.  The phone will show the apple then the 'connect to tunes' screen.  Now iTunes won't recognize the iPhone and my computer doesn't want to see it as a device.  Help!  Not sure what else to try, why it happened or what to do.   TIA

  • So long sound after installing iTunes 7.7

Upgraded to iTunes 7.7. Had no issue with the download, installed just fine. Closed down iTunes and re-opened to ensure updates were correct. Had a window pop up stating, "iTunes has detected a problem w/ audio configuration. Audio/Video playback may not operate properly". This was immediately after the install of 7.7, iTunes was working properly on older version. Checked other media programs (Windows Media Player), nothing will play any audio or video files. Also tried re-booting, no luck. According to my system info, my sound card is not installed. Re-installing the sound card is separate issue, but issues of 7.7 causing this problem before? Any suggestions or tips to downgrade to older iTunes. I have a 2nd Gen. Nano if that makes a difference. (Never had issues before when upgrading versions.)

I ran disk utility from my Leopard DVD, repaired the disk. The sound worked upon restarting.

i see you've got a Packard Bell. could you check something for me? go into your Device Manager (right-click "My Computer", select "Manage", select "Device Manager"), and check to see if you've got a warning/alert message showing up next to your optical drives referencing "code 41".

  • IPhone is no more visibile in My Computer after installing iTunes 8

Hi all, after installing iTunes 8, iPhone isn't visible anymore in my Computer section in Windows. Previously, when I connected it, it was recognized as a photocamera and, from my Computer, i could access to it to see the photos that are stored on the iPhone.
Now, instead, iPhone isn't displayed anymore: except for this, it works correctly; iTunes 8 recognizes it and synchronizes it.
Notice: after the iTunes upgrade, when I've connected the iPhone for the first time, Windows says that he has found a new hardware and installed a new driver for an Apple Mobile Device USB.
Has someone else experienced my problem? Thanks in advance!

im having the exact opposite problem....my 3g is recognized inmy computer as a camera..but isnt recognized in itunes?
i have no pics downloaded from emails (as i researched this before)
the other night had same problem, had to restore phone, and re-install itunes..then no problem...but tonite trying to add new music and same thing again.
disabled iphone under imaging devices, and its only listed under usb controllers...computer recognizes it every time
there has to be a better way than restoring/reinstalling everytime?..has to be some little catch?
    HELP!
FYI, i phone not being used as phone, being used as ipod, and only using wifi..has no sim installed.

Very many thanks to you, Putaro!  Your answer provided the solution. It was a buggy plug-in that turned out to be the culprit.
You're off the hook, Apple, and my apologies for stating that you let a dog run loose. You skated by this time, Apple. But I'm watching you.
But again, Putaro's reference to the plugins I had installed over the years turned out to illuminate the problem. I have several plugins in my iTunes plugins folder, pretty much all designed to add more visualizer functionality. I removed all of them, and ALL of the problems I noted in my post went away, with full iTunes functionality restored.
I began adding the plugins back to hopefully single out the culprit. Among the ones I had been using included fielder, G-Force, Timestrech, volcanokit, QuartzComposer, and Jax. I hadn't used any of them in a while - probably at least a verison or more back in iTunes updates, but iTunes continued to work with all of them installed. Currently, only QuartzComposer continues to work in iTunes 10.4. The rest no longer even show up as visualizer opitons, with one exception. Jax does show up, but does not work. AND THE PRESENCE OF JAX IS WHAT KILLED MY ITUNES.
I looked into it and went back to the developer, and it appears that they discontinued developing Jax some time ago - evidently, it was buggy and crash prone. I remember after buying it, having problems with it - having never worked to its touted potential, but I didn't pursue it, and never uninstalled it. Leaving it in there caused all iTunes functionality to cease with the iTunes 10.4 update.
If you've got Jax installed, consider removing it before updating to iTunes 10.4.
My iTunes is now working right as rain, thanks again to Putaro!

Any one or a combo may help
Give your iPad a reset. Hold down the sleep and home  keys for about 20 seconds. When you see the silver apple, let go and let it reboot and try again.
    Try a different USB cord
    Try a different USB port
    Try rebooting your computer
    Try closing/opening iTunes.
If you go through that and it doesn't work, try going into the control panel, add/remove programs. Uninstall iTunes, Apple Mobile Device Service, Apple Application Support. Then redownload and reinstall iTunes and try again

  • Windows 7 BSOD randomly occuring after installing iTunes 10.6 with iPhone 4 in dock

After installing iTunes 10.6 and IOS 5.1 on my iPhone 4, Windows 7 computer was randomly blue screening with the iPhone 4 in the attached dock. After removing the phone from the dock, system works fine.

Re-installed iTunes as you suggested and it worked.  However, started experiencing random BSOD's.  Disk check found a number of file errors on the boot drive - which it fixed.  It then took a number of re-boots before computer became stable.
Then, upgraded iTunes on a HP workstation (no iPhone attached).  On reboot windows had to attempt a boot repair 3 times before it would reboot.  Couldn't even do a disk check without first reverting to the last restore point.  It also corrupted Norton.  The end result was 2.5 hours of wasted time.
Being an expert pc user, I can safely say that I believe Apple has some serious issues with 10.6.
