  • Tom Tom Car kit and iPhone 4

Does anyone know if the iPhone 4 will fit into the Tom Tom car kit?

I was initially disappointed as I placed the shiny new toy in the Tom Tom cradle. The phone fit snug and secure, with no sign of excess pressure. However, no dice on Bluetooth or power. After some investigation of how the cradle works, I was able to find a repeatable solution.
The cradle's power connector has 2 functions. 1. The power 2. A rocker switch that seems to wake the cradle up for action. You can see the rocking motion clearly with the cradle empty.
That rocker switch is designed to conform precisely with the 3g/3gs chubby backside. When the sleek iPhone 4 is placed in the cradle, it fails to trigger the rocker. I just pressed firmly (you don't have to press hard) on the bottom portion to trigger the rocker. You don't need to keep in pressed either. Just once to kick the cradle into gear. Presto. I was able to do this consistently with no loss in charge or Bluetooth capability.
After reading a bit more, some have modified the cradle (pads, tape, etc.). By knowing how the cradle works, I just simply press the phone to trigger the rocker.
Hope this helps. No need to panic about Tom Tom's price reduction, and dropping another $120.

  • IPhone 4 will not locate Tom Tom car kit

iPhone 4 with IOS 4.0 will not discover TomTom car kit Bluetooth making the GPS app unusable. Also hands free which I depend on is also unavailable. Works as designed on a iPhone 3GS with 3.13. Unfortunately the SIM cards can not be switched. Please look into this issue and provide a correction.

Use the search facility on this site - I did, and found the following useful info...........
The TomTom car kit isn't made for, and doesn't officially support, the iPhone 4. As the iP4 is thinner than the iP3, the phone doesn't 'push' back onto the flap in the mount enough for the dock connector to fully engage into the iP4. You can 'fix' this by putting a small piece of fabric/paper/neoprene/whatever behind the phone, which will then push the flap sufficiently to engage the connector.
I've been doing this for ages without any problems, and the bluetooth connection between phone & car kit works fine.

    Hello there, terajbab.
The following Knowledge Base article offers up some great steps for troubleshooting Bluetooth connectivity with your iOS device:
Get help connecting your iPhone or iPad to a Bluetooth accessory
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT6473
To resolve the issue, you'll need to first sign in to iCloud and review your devices:
Sign in to iCloud on your iOS devices and Macs with OS X Yosemite (available this fall).
On one of your devices, tap Settings > Bluetooth and look under My Devices. You'll see all devices that are connected to Bluetooth, but make sure that you see your Apple devices that are signed in to iCloud and are using iOS 8 or OS X Yosemite.
Sign out of your iCloud account from any devices that you don't want to use. To sign out of iCloud on an iOS device, tap Settings > iCloud > Sign Out.
Then, remove any inactive devices from iCloud:
    Sign in to iCloud.com.
    Select Find My iPhone.
Select any devices that aren't active anymore.
Wait for Find My iPhone to stop trying to find the inactive device.
You should see the option to remove this device from your account. Select it to remove the device.
After following the steps above, restart the device with the issue. Then try to use it with your Bluetooth accessory.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.

  • Does the iPhone 4S work with the tom-tom car kit?

The tomtom car kit still works fine with my old iPhone 4. I can not get it to work with my iPhone 4S at all it does not recognize the car kit.

I also posted this problem on the tomtom fourums and got a fix from a user. In addtion to the iphone 4 adapter I used a peice of velcro on top of the existing adapter I had in place. Now it works with the iphone 4S. I guess the 4S is slightly thinner the the 4.

  • Whenever I plug my iPhone into the car charger (professionally installed and hardwired), it comes up with the yellow triangle and exclamation mark saying that this accessory isn't supported.   It's been working quite fine since 2010, now it's not.

My iPhone car charger was professionally installed in 2010 and again in 2013 and had been working perfectly for all of this time, now it's coming up with the yellow triangle and the text saying that this accessory isn't supported.    Is there an easy way to fix this without tearing everything to bits?    It all appears to have gone boonta about 3 upgrades ago and I haven't been able to use it since.
I've seen and tried the suggestions on Google, none of them work for long, and I'm certainly not going to tear the car kit or phone apart to overcome something that is obviously a software issue.    Surely Apple can overcome this?
And the bloody "Terms and Conditions" fiasco!   55 pages of mumbo jumbo that nobody would read EVER, and you get to the end and nothing happens.   I've bought an app from Apple to use on their product and I can't install it because the Terms and Conditions doesn't accept anything.   Surely they can fix this?
    Come on.....waiting.

  • HT204368 My iPhone 4s will not recognise my TomTom car kit, so I cannot use any of my 3 TomTom apps.  It will not pair, although I have held in the reset button until it beeps, then entered my PIN when instructed.

My new iPhone 4s will not recognise my TomTom car kit, so I cannot use any of my 3 TomTom apps, nor does it give me handsfree as before.  It will not pair, although I have held in the reset button until it beeps, then entered my PIN when instructed.  It also sometimes gives the message that this device is not supported by iPhone (although I have been using it for several years) with my UK and Ireland, Western Europe, and USA and Canada apps.  Just replaced my 4 with a 4S rather than a 5, which won't fit the mounting kit.

From their web site Tom Tom actually offered a converter kit at one point however all it was a 3mm thick bit of plastic with a self adhesive tape backing!

  • IPhone Map & Tom Tom iPhone hands-free kit

Hi everyone - can anyone help me with this teaser?
I recently bought a Tom Tom hands-free kit to use my iPhone 4S in my car.  I am having trouble with audio...  I have been able to connect the phone with the TT unit via Bluetooth, and after talking to the TT help-line, I chose this setting; Settings>General>Accessibility>Incoming Calls>Headset, but I am still having trouble.
The only audio I can hear via the TT speaker is the phone and Siri.  All the other audio is either muted (no Music at all!) or else comes over the phone speaker.  While it's a reliaf to be able to use the phone 'hands-free' the main reason I bought the unit in the first place was to use the turn-by-turn directions available from the Maps app, and the voice via the phone speaker is too quiet to be audible while I'm driving - does anyone know which settings need tweaking so I can hear the turn-by-turn voice via the TT unit speaker?

I have just spent a few quiet ( ) minutes going through settings, sitting in the car, and can report that the 'Tom Tom Hands Free' option appears both in the Map app and the Music app, but even though I can pop a tick against it, it don't come out of the TT speaker...

  • IPhone G3 S with built in BlueTooth car Kit problem

    I have an iPhone 3Gs.
When I connect to my car kit (Motorola T605) the kit always falls back into music mode.Tthe phone works in this mode but when I use either the iPod feature or a GPS navigation app I get no sound through the car.
It worked perfectly with my older iPhone with 2.2.1.
Any ideas as to what is wrong or what I can do to rectify the problem ?
Do any of you have car kits that work fully with the iPhone 3G s that you can recommend .. It looks like I might have to change my car kit.
I have updated my 2.2.1 3G phone .... The same problems exist. It seems to be a version 3.0 software issue to me.

    Hi Tim,
I have just spent 2 hours on the phone with Motorola's tech support (They were useless at best !!!). I got nowhere at all. They blame all the problems all on Apple and say their kit is NOT guaranteed to work with all phones with A2DP. I wish they said that in their sales literature and i told them that .. they seemed to be unable to accept the idea that their saying it works in writing is somewhat misleading (Wrong in this case) and perhaps even a breach of sales law.
I then spent over an hour at my local (and very experienced) car audio store. they were more than helpful but they also could not get things working correctly.
I do have a Sony car stereo system and this has a lead for an iPod to play through the stereo system.
I connected my iPhone to this ... it worked .. sort of ! .. I had to play around a bit .. I managed to get Audio to work and my navigation App (Navigon Europe) worked this way also.
The store then played around with a Parrot MKi9100 car kit that they had on a demonstration stand.. This was significantly better and I am having my motorola T605 removed and disposed of in disgust tomorrow and the Parrot installed.
The Parrot will also charge the iPhone via it's cable unlike the Motorola and Sony setup.
I did speak to Parrot themselves and they have said to me that any of their models in the MKi range will be fine with the iPhone with version 3.0 software as they have done software updates .. The updates can be applied by the owners simply and quickly.
Just for information for you and others with similar problems ... We also tried several car stereo systems that say they have bluetooth and iPhone compatibility built in to them .. Alpine in particular ... Not one worked !!!
The Parrot is being fitted as I said earlier tomorrow ... I will make a further report when it's all done to let you know just how good it is and how everything works.
    I hope this helps.

  • Tomtom car kit has stopped charhing the iPhone

A few week ago my Tomtom car-kit cable was damaged. I called support and they were incredibly helpful. A couple of weeks later I got not one but two brand new cables.
Everything works normally except now the car-kit has stopped charging the iPhone. If I move or rotate the charger it makes contact but usually it does not work.
I have another standard car charger which works quite well, and I was thinking that maybe one of Tomtom cables could be faulty but two out of two seems unlikely.
    Any ideas?

    No answers, I give up.

  • Iphone 4 and tomtom car kit

if i replace my 3gs with the new iphone 4, will the new one fit in my tomtom car kit?

This is the response I got from mail support today:
The TomTom car kit is currently available only for the normal iPhone, iPhone 3G and iPhone 3G S. As iPhone 4G is a newer product from Apple, it has not been tested for the TomTom car kit. Hence we regret that we will not be able to comment on its compatibility with iPhone 4G as of now. However, we are getting a lot of requests from customers regarding the same query and we are in a process to release a iPhone 4G compatible version of TomTom car kit soon. Also, I have forwarded your feedback to our Product Development Team for further review. We take all customer feedback received very seriously in the future development of our products. Suggestions are gathered and organized to understand the areas our customers are most interested in enhancing.
