I am trying to activate my iphone but cannot type in the serial number because when i turn on the phone it will not activate

You can find the serial number in other places then in the settings on the phone. Article HT4061 http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4061?viewlocale=en_US shows you the different ways to find it. Also article TS3424 http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3424?viewlocale=en_US goes through trouble shooting activation issues.

Phone keeps sending me "Iphone not activated contact your Carrier" after the ios7 update

So I got the Ios7 update yesterday and it downloaded normally and when it was done I had service for like 30 min. after that it kept send me an error saying "iphone not acitvated please contact your carrier" (im with Tmobile) so i called today and they said to wait a couple days or to get on itunes to activate it so i went to itunes and they said "new carrier update" so i installed it. But no luck, i dont get any service or internet connection. my wifi is down so i have to use the neighbors when ever he is home. So i dont know what to do. I tried to take the sim out and clean it with a cloth, i tried to reset my network setting but no luck. I dont want to reset all setting or restore it. So i dont know what to? any help? BTW i have an iphone 4s

IPhone not activated.. can I update it?

I bought the iPhone 3G recently and was wanting to use the original iPhone in the same manner one would use an iPod Touch. Can I update it without it being actively on AT&T or will something happen like it not working anymore..

You cannot upgrade the software. It will render it useless.
I believe that people have reported that you can put the SIM from your 3g in it and then upgrade, but I'm not sure what is involved.

IPhone not activating after restore, iTunes saying no SIM installed.

I just had to restore an iPhone 3GS and put in a new SIM card (same carrier; Orange), now whenever I try to activate the phone it says the activation server is temporarily unavailable, whereas iTunes says 'There is no SIM card installed in the phone you are attempting to activate'.
Is there a fix to this problem? I tried restoring again but I've had no luck with it.

i am having the same thing when you go though the setup up on my sons verzion iphone 4 and it says your iphone could not be actvated because the actvation sever is temporarily unavailable i dont think its apples fault i think its because all the carier are working on there 4 networks i blame verzion apple shoud make its own carier

No, only the carrier to which the iPhone was originally locked to can give instructions for it to be unlocked.
Sim free is not exactly the same as unlocked. Sim free just means that the iPhone was sold without a contract but locked to a carrier. Unlocked means the iPhone will work with any Sim from a supported carrier.
Apple Care should be able to confirm whether your iPhone is carrier locked and to which carrier but the friend who was the original owner can also tell you which carrier he was using successfully on the iPhone. You can then contact this carrier to get an official unlock if you want to use another carrier because many carriers will accept to unlock the iPhone if full price was originally paid as with a Sim free iPhone.

First, look at the receipt from the Apple store and make sure it says "Unlocked". If it doesn't it will not work in Mexico. The activation question is independent, however.
Either your antivirus is blocking access to Apple's activation server or your computer was used at some time in the past to hack or jailbreak an iPhone or iPad. Try disabling your antivirus, and check out the hosts file on your computer. It should not contain any lines that include gs.apple.com. If it does you will have to delete them before activating the phone.

Online Service Assistant-iPhone Not Activated

I was just checking the warranty status of my new iPhone 3G S (purchased and activated 26th June 2009) to see the length of technical support I have left. After entering in my serial number I get the following message
+"Our records indicate this product has not been activated. Learn how to activate your iPhone. Please note that warranty service is not dependent on activating your iPhone."+
Any ideas? Should i visit the Apple shop? (Only 5 minutes away)

Visiting an Apple Store might be the best way .. or you can call Apple Support. Since it's Monday morning there, either would work. Likely just some data base glitch .. unless you mis-read or mis-typed the S/N. If the phone is working, it is activated.

Second hand unlocked jailbroken Iphone not activated.

Help!!! I have just brought a second hand 3gs for my wife as a birthday! The seller listed it as unlocked and jailbroken! I know nothing about this sort of thing, but I was told the original carrier was T mobile. This is the same as my wife's network so I thought it should be ok. Reading through some blogs I found out that if you connect to I tunes this would remove the phones unlock ability. BUT after doing this now the phone seems to have reset and the sentence " your iphone could not be activated because the server is unavailable" it allows you to try again but it just repeats the same message again. It just a nightmare!!!! At least the phone turned on before she connected it to itunedsand allowed you to connect to the internet and browse!!! Please can anyone help!!

If not shure try the operation from a trusted clean laptop. hopefully a Mac (as said).
