IPhone not charging and using more battery power while on charger and getting hot

I have an iPhone 4 and have had issues with it charging.  This has happened 3-4 times over the past few months, where I put it on the wall charger prior to going to sleep and wake up with 17-20% battery power.  Last night I placed it on the charger with approximately 70% battery power.  I believe it charged to 100%, I left it on the charger and when I woke this morning the phone was hot (hotter than charging it with the USB) and the power was at 17%.  Any suggestions on what I can do to rectify this issue?  After the iOS upgrade it did and I reset the phone, ran the power completely out and charged 100%.  I don't have any more apps open than usual.  Thanks for any help you can provide!

Having a similar problem with my 3G IPhone.  Battery life is fine but once I plug it in to charge it won't charge.  I have to reset my phone and then it will start to charge as long as I unplug it and then plug it in again.  This problem is something that is intermittent.  I reinstalled the firmware but the problem did not go away. Something that I have noticed is that when this takes place usually the GPS function cannot find my current location at the same time. Once the phone is rest the GPS is fine. The fact that I have reloaded the firmware and the problem has not gone away leads me to think that this is a hardware problem. Well we will see soon I am going to take it in to get checked out. This is sort of annoying but I love the IPhone it is great!!!!

  • What actually uses more battery power - WiFi or 3G ?

I've read conflicting thoughts, so I wanted to ask which actually uses more battery power - WiFi or 3G ?
Does anyone leave WiFi disabled all the time?

Thanks for all your responses. I suspected WiFi used more power and you guys confirmed that.
BTW - Michael, 0.5 watts is 500 milliwatts... so you're off base with the comparison of the couple-of-hundred milliwatts for wifi vs. 0.5-1.0 watts for 3G. Excuse me... I used to be an engineer

  • How to fix an iPod touch that does not charge but gets hot in the lower back area?

I have a 3rd generation iPod touch 32gb and it will not turn off, nor will it charge. Plugging in to my computer, iTunes does not even detected. Even if I leave it to charge, it does not detect it. The odd thing is that it get really hot in the lower back area of the iPod. It is hot to the touch, as though it were 80 degrees+. Anyway for me to fix this?
The iPod is way out of warrenty, so I wonder if a Genius bar appointment will even help me. But I will give them a try.

Replace the battery.  If that does not work, then system board is toasted...

  • What uses more battery: Push or Fetch?

I have recently downloaded MobileMe and using it mainly to add / edit my contacts and callender.
Im just wondering, which setting will be best for me, Push or Fetch?
I'll only be editing things on MobileMe about once a day, so is it best to use Push? I.e only using the connection when its needed.
Is it fair to say that Fetch uses more battery life because its connecting more frequently and often for no new data?
    Hope this makes sense!
    Thanks
    James

Push uses more battery power. The second bit of advice from Apple increasing battery life is to turn off Push (the third is to reduce the Fetch frequency).
Fetch, at most, can check every 15 minutes. Push must ping the server frequently to maintain a 'live' connection, so updates can be pushed to the phone as soon as they hit the server.
In your case, Jim's advice seems best - just turn off Push, set Fetch to Manual and check when you like.

  • Why does OS7 use more battery on iphone?

Upgraded to OS7 from 6.1.4 which was much better on battery life. Why does OS 7 use so much battery and how can I reinstall OS6?
Its using approx 10% of battery life every hour, when not using the phone and all apps switched off, push notifications off etc - if I was actually using the phone and making calls battery will be dead in no time!

why?i rip all my cd's in wma,y does wma files use more battery life?
Due to higher compression rate of WMA. The player will need higher processing power to process it thus the higher battery consumption but it should not affect it very much around 0-5% more only.

  • Artworks consumes more battery power significantly? Maybe a GOOD IDEA!

I'm searching for ways to improve battery power and...
    1. Artworks consumes more battery power significantly?
    2. If we found a program that equalize (ROCK for example) all mp3 before copy to iPOD, it discards EQ on iPOD to improve power?
    Good idea???
    Thanks!

I'm searching for ways to improve battery power
    and...
    1. Artworks consumes more battery power
    significantly?
Very insignificantly... to such a tiny degree that it's not an issue.
    2. If we found a program that equalize (ROCK for
example) all mp3 before copy to iPOD, it discards EQ
    on iPOD to improve power?
    Good idea???
If that's what you want, then I guess it's a good idea. Be aware that raising the eq level also increases the volume. iPods distort extremely easily when the volume going into the amplifier exceeds a certain level.
Once you've run your eq software, be sure to use a piece of software called mp3gain on your files after you do your eq. It will analyze your files and completely losslessly adjust the volume, without even modifying the song bitstream data - magic! This software can handle mp3's by default, and AAC files if you add something else.
    http://mp3gain.sourceforge.net/
But before anyone else thinks of running mp3gain on their mp3's or AAC's... DON'T do it for files that have already been imported into iTunes if you use the 'sound check' feature!!!!!!

  • Which drains more battery  power, Wi Fi or 3G?

If you had these on independently Which drains more battery power Wi Fi or 3G?

You can read Apple's recommendations on iPhone batteries here:
    http://www.apple.com/batteries/iphone.html
From the specs: iPhone 3G offers up to 5 hours of talk time on 3G...6 hours of Internet use on Wi-Fi. Not stated there is that internet use on 3G is less than the 5 hours of talk time...

  • Make Spotlight (& the OS) use more CPU power?

I've noticed that a lot of the time that the OS, specifically when using Spotlight doesn't use all of it's power.
For example I have iStat menus displaying the CPU usage. When I do Spotlight searches I'll start typing but before I can finish typing my search Spotlight will start grinding away, not letting me finish what I want to type. But looking at the CPU usage in the menu bar both cores are only at around 50%. I'll have to wait for Spotlight to calm down before I can finish typing my search.
I looked around in System Preferences > Energy Saver > Options & set Processor Performance to highest but it seems a lot of the time the OS doesn't use as much CPU power as it could.
Is there any way to make the OS, specifically when using Spotlight use more CPU power?

Spotlight will use as much CPU as it needs - It really doesn't take that much unless it's drawing image previews, etc.... The other-and probably more important- issue is hard disk speed and whether or not the disk is doing anything else when you initiate the search.

  • HP Pavilion dv9920us will not bootup/shutdown when on battery power

When using the 2.6.27 kernel, my HP Pavilion will not boot up when using the battery power..... it won't shutdown either, it will just freeze mid-process unti I plug the AC adapter back in. During the boot up using the battery power, it freezes at the ACPI part.
This has happened on the 2.6.27-2-ARCH kernel, and all other versions of the 2.6.27 that I've built. (all rc versions from rc1 - rc7).
I wish I knew a way to fix this, I have a backup 2.6.26 kerenl on my GRUB list just in case there are no AC adapter outlets.... but it would be nice to fix this.

  • Macbook no more battery power, message displaying mac os x quit unexpected

I had written a topic earlier saying that my macbook was not powering up because i had apparently no more battery power left. when i plug it in to the wall, a message comes up saying mac os x has quit unexpectedly, would you like to send a report... a person answered me saying that i was closing the lid before it was totally closed, and my battery was getting drained. So, finally, i keep making sure my macbook is totally closed before shutting the lid. But it happened to me again today!!! called applecare made me shut it down and press power button for 5 seconds. Im not really confident that this is going to fix my problem? Has this happened to anyone??? Please help me!

well i just called applecare, and he made me shut it down with no battery in it or power cord, and he made me press the power button for 5 seconds, so im gonna see what that does, but i dont really know if thats gonna work, why did he make me do that? he wasnt very friendly and didnt really explain anything

  • From two given tables, how do you fetch the values from two columns using values from one column(get values from col.A if col.A is not null and get values from col.B if col.A is null)?

From two given tables, how do you fetch the values from two columns using values from one column(get values from col.A if col.A is not null and get values from col.B if col.A is null)?

    Hi,
    Use NVL or COALESCE:
    NVL (col_a, col_b)
Returns col_a if col_a is not NULL; otherwise, it returns col_b.
Col_a and col_b must have similar (if not identical) datatypes; for example, if col_a is a DATE, then col_b can be another DATE or it can be a TIMESTAMP, but it can't be a VARCHAR2.
For more about NVL and COALESCE, see the SQL Language manual: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e26088/functions119.htm#sthref1310
I hope this answers your question.
If not, post a little sample data (CREATE TABLE and INSERT statements, relevant columns only) for all tables involved, and also post the results you want from that data.
Explain, using specific examples, how you get those results from that data.
Always say which version of Oracle you're using (e.g., 11.2.0.2.0).

The backlight burned out from getting it wet. You will have to replace the screen at a 3rd party shop, buy a screen and replace it yourself, or make a Genius Bar appointment at your nearest Apple Store and do an out-of-warranty replacement for $199 USD.

  • HT4759 Does I Cloud use more battery life

Does I Cloud use more battery life?

I suspect that if you turn on the backlight to look at the artwork, the backlight uses battery juice. I doubt the physical presence or absence of album art uses any more juice.
BTW, I don't believe the album art uses a "**** of a lot of MB". It probably only adds a few KB to the song file since it is so small.
