IPhone not charging via USB

I just got this weird problem today. I have a 2G iPhone running 2.2
1. iPhone is not charging with the USB cable to my MacBook and not recognizing by iTunes, thus I can't sync anymore.
2. I can use the same USB cable to charge the iTouch from my MacBook
3. I can use the same USB vable to charge the iPhone charges via the wall adapter, so this can not be the USB cable.
4. I can use the same USB cable for the iTouch and I see it in iTunes
So, this is not the USB cable nor iTunes. However, if this is hardware issue with the iPhone with charging, how come I can charge it using the wall adapter??
This is very very strange indeed. Would it help if I do a hard reset on the phone? If so, how do I do that as I can not find anything on hard reset in the manual.
help!

I have two USB cables, one for the iPhone and one for the iTouch. Both cables do not work for the iPhone but they work for the iTouch.
Also, I can use both cables to charge the iPhone from the wall charger. My problem is the iPhone does not seem to charge with the same cable plugging into my MacBook and iTunes does not see the device.
My last sync with iTunes was yesterday. This problem just started today. I did a hard reset on the iPhone, no luck.

  • Ipad 2 not charging via USB after IOS 7 update

I have recently update my i Pad 2 to IOS 7.
The update has completed sucessfully with no issues but I have now found that the iPad nolonger charges via USB. When plugging in the 30 pin cable the chargin icon flashes and then switches to not charging. If I plug in the AC charger it all works fine.
The cable that I am using is the original cable, I have read in the forums that there is some issues with IOS 7 and uncertified cables. Is the original Apple 30 pin connector uncertified ?
    Thanks in advance.

Normally, they don't. There are some out there that do have enough power to charge a full sized iPad.
It is very possible that whatever they did to the firmware to make it detect different cables could have affected how it charges. I know prior to 2011 the ipad used to send more power to the port which allowed people to plug in keyboards etc, but a 2011 update changed that, so it's not unprecedented.
Have you tried to give your iPad a reset? Sometimes if that port has issues it 'turnes off' and it takes a reset to turn it back on. Hold down the sleep and home keys until it reboots. Try again and see if that helps.
Other than that, if Apple has decided to change the configuration there's not much users can do but alter their behavior to fit in with what the device allows.

  • Iphone 5 does not charge via USB laptop in sleep

I hook my iPhone 5 up to my Lenovo G570 laptop. When the laptop is not sleeping, the iPhone charges just fine.
When the laptop sleeps, the iPhone no longer charges.
BUT.... The USB port on the laptop powers and charges other USB devices just fine, even when asleep.
ONLY the iPhone 5 stops charging when the laptop sleeps.
Anyone have any idea how to fix this?
(When I travel, its nice to be able to charge my iPhone *without* having to actually wake up the laptop)

    Thanks
Connect the device directly to a USB port on your computer (not an external keyboard) using the USB cable that came with the device. Your computer must be turned on and not in sleep or standby mode; otherwise, the battery may drain instead of charge. If using a portable computer, make sure it is plugged in to power and that the display (or lid) is open. If the display is closed, the computer may go into standby, sleep, or hibernation mode and the device may not charge.
*** Unless you have a Chinese iPhone. They DO charge when laptops are asleep, apparently. Go figure.

  • Palm Centro will not charge via USB or wall charger

My Palm Centro has been having issues with the charger port for a while, now.   I found a few posts on this board instructing me on how to trickle charge through the USB adapter, but when I try the methods these people are using, my phone still will not charge.  I don't have insurance on my device currently (I had to have the ruddy thing replaced so many times they cancelled it), so I have to figure something out soon.  It appears as if the device is not being recognized by computer, even when I try to HotSync.  The HotSync never goes through.  Any suggestions?

Yes, every original iPhone is out of warranty at this point. It is going on 4 years now.
Has the iPhone been exposed to moisture? You can check to see if the sensor at the end of the headphone jack is red or not. Moisture could expand the issue and lead to hardware failures. Could also be a faulty or loose communication cable as the home button and dock connector use the same cable inside the iPhone to connect to the logic board.
Assuming it is a hardware issue you could try third party repair centers that are local or see if apple has an out of warranty replacement program still operating for the original iPhone. Since it is rather old I don't think there is much apple can do. Try a third party repair center or look for a new to you used iPhone.

  • Iphone will not charge via usb-to-computer nor via brick; I've tested with two different cables. Just before this problem arose, I got messages similar to "This accessory is not made to work with iPhone."

Most of my concern is in the subject line. I probably should've saved some content to include here. Allow me to elaborate:
While traveling with the tiny brick, I got a message on my 3GS phone that "This accessory is not made to work with iPhone”; however, the charger was working fine with another phone and with an iPad.
I tested alternatives by removing and re-inserting the cable (obviously, as I tested other devices), changing wall receptacles, shutting the phone off (all the way), all to no avail.
When I got home, I plugged a different cable--one that was connected to my iMac rather than the brick--into the my 3GS; it still didn't charge.
So, I'm hypothesizing that perhaps some debris (from a pocket?) got into the charging receptacle of the 3GS and is disrupting the connection. Perhaps there are other hypotheses.
I am reluctant to do a reset, as (a) the problem doesn't appear to be a software issue (the phone and software are all working, though the charge is declining) and (b) I don't want to lose the contents before I can sync it (now that I'm home, again).
I'd welcome suggestions. Meanwhile, I suppose I shall e-mail photos and notes from the phone to myself before I lose the remaining charge.

Try to clean the 30-pin receiver slot either by blowing air into it or using a microfiber cloth. If the problem persists, based on what you've already said, I'd say the problem is most likely hardware, and would need to be replaced or repaired. I hope your iPhone is still under the 1-Year Manufacturer Warranty, or if applicaable extended warranty. You can check by calling AppleCare National iPhone Technical Support at 1 (800) 694-7466.

  • HT1296 What is causing my iPad 3 not to be charging via USB, even if I connect it to a USB 3.0 port?

What is causing my iPad 3 not to be charging via USB, even if I connect it to a USB 3.0 port?

    iPad Charging
"The fastest way to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter.
iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter.
When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge, but only when it's in sleep mode.
Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain."

  • IPhone 3GS no longer recognized in iTunes and does not charge via wall

I upgraded my iMac to iTunes 9.2 when it came out.
My wife then upgraded her iPhone 3GS to iOS4.
Since then it is not recognized in iTunes and does not charge via the wall adapter.
I realize this topic crosses over with several ongoing discussions, but there are no 3rd party peripherals involved here.
The only major changes to our set up have been the itunes and iOS upgrades.
The battery is running down, any ideas to fix this, or other similar experiences welcome.

Went to the Apple store and they replaced the cable.

  • My iPad is not charging via PC and iTunes on the PC (latest software update, both PC and iPad rebooted) - charges only via AC adaptor

My iPad is not charging via PC and iTunes on the PC (latest software update, both PC and iPad rebooted) - charges only via AC adaptor - any ideas?

The quickest way to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter. When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes.

  • IPad won't charge using power adapter but will charge via USB

I have an iPad 1 that recently stopped charging using the power adapter. "Broken power adapter or cable" I thought and reached for a spare that I have. That didn't work either. The original power adapter however DID charge another iPad without any problems, so the problem cannot be with the adapter or cable.
Now this is the wierd bit - using the original cable plugged into my laptop I get the usual "Not charging" message but the iPad DOES charge slowly this way.
I rebooted the iPad, restarted it in recovery mode and restored the firmware, cleaned out the 30-pin connector port - all those useful bits of advice that you find on the internet but all to no avail. The iPad just will not charge using any of the many  original Apple iPad charger sthat I have been able to get my hands on but will only charge on an underpowered USB port!
The 30-pin connector must work otherwise it wouldn't charge via USB. Can there be some kind of wierd internal hardware defect that might cause such behavior?
I fear that if I take a 3 year old iPad to the Apple Store they might just give me their best smile and show me the latest iPads but this old iPad works fine otherwise and I don't really want to replace it.
    Anyone got any ideas?

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
And this - Unplug the charger from the iPad and then replug. May resume charging.
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W (5W on Mini) USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • 5G Video iPOD stopped charging via USB: can someone help?

I bought 5G video iPOD last month. After about a month of charging via USB 2.0 port on WinXP desktop, iPOD no longer charges with USB port. If I connect it to desktop, it syncs songs and shows its charging but in fact it does not charge. As it can't sleep, its loosing power. If I hook it up in the night, its discharged in the morning.
I tried to charge it in the car (with car charger), iPOD charges fine. I have tried to change ports, tried different computer (laptop) and also sent iPOD for service, NOTHING HELPS!
I sent it for repair to Apple, but i got it back in 1 week saying its is perfect condition and no other details. (Very disappointed with Apple's lack of service)
Right now, I am stuck with iPOD not charging with any USB port. How do I solve this? Can the usb ports suddenly become low powered from high powered? Please advice.
