August 20, 2009
AhHa Finally - I have the Itouch and it is upgraded to the latest software and I have Itunes 8.2.1.6. I have been banging my head on the desk for days trying to get rid of this pervasive widespread problem so many are reporting where Itunes "detects an Iphone" but does not "recognize it" I have followed posts as far back as 2006 all the way to Present Day. Some suggest disabling any wireless card on your PC or laptop. Others suggest uninstalling and completely reinstalling all apple software (I did this 9 times)some say its a usb conflict or problem etc, go to control panel. Many of these fixes work for some users, (especially disabling wireless) Then there is the geek fix that requires major registry work and command files and programming and third party device drivers etc PHEW! And the golden answers: GET A NEW PHONE, GET A NEW COMPUTER, or MOVE TO NEW GUINEA where Iphones are not widely used, so if yours ain't workin no one will know or care. Maybe you really don't deserve an Iphone anyway? Or buy a mac (which has the same issues by the way), anyway, takes all kinds, God Bless America, and all those noble souls that have toiled with this issue for years
Hopefully, my solution will work for you as it has for me!
When unplugging the device from the dock (itunes connection) make sure that you first go to the "safely remove hardware" icon in your windows system tray and end the connection in this way. This apparently resets the USB device driver and allows for a full sync to occur when you again plug in your device. Yep, it was that simple. Once you have a sync just remember to eject the ipod (in Itunes) before unplugging it and you should be fine. The fix is in!
I feel so much better

  • IPhone not recognized by iTunes after update

I recently downloaded & installed the latest update for iTunes and it actually removed iTunes and put and extra (& useless) shortcut for quicktime in my desktop. I uninstalled everything and reinstalled iTunes and quicktime with nor problem. I hooked up the iPhone and downlaoded the latest update for it as well and it crashed during the installation of it. I have since had to reboot on my roomates pc and it will not be come up in iTunes. My computer still recognizes it though. I have gone through all the steps in apples site and microsoft and have no clue what to do now. I use this thing all day every day and need the music and video capablities for "work" purposes. If anyone can help, thanks.

    Symptoms:
iPhone not recognized by iTunes on Windows computer, however an iPod will.
The iPhone CAMERA appears in windows My Computer - but nowhere else.
    Problem:
The Apple iPhone Driver has been replaced by a Microsoft Driver which enables the camera/storage, but did not allow it to connect with iTunes.
    SOLUTION:
From Device Manager, Select the iPhone (under imaging/Portable Devices) and then select "Update Driver", Don't direct it to automatically search for a driver, instead, manually point it to search in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers - It should then "do it's thing" and install the correct apple driver - voila - iPhone is then recognized.

  • IPhone not recognized by iTunes any more

    iTunes 9.0.2 on a 2006 iMac 2GHz intel duo running OSX 10.5.8
    iPhone 3Gs 32 gig
    iPod (5th gen)
3 external hard drives, all the iTunes library stored on a Mybook 1 TB Firewire drive plugged into iMac direct, not via a Firewire hub.
I plugged my iPhone into the Mac this am, tried to sync the iPhone and got an error message saying that something was wrong with my iTunes.
    Mac then froze.
Finally got the Mac back up after five attempts (eventually, had to unplug everything, including the mains to the iMac, plug in just the power, keyboard and mouse, press and hold power switch for 5 secs then plug in each extra drive when the Mac came back up).
Found something seriously wrong with iTunes as it wouldn't open when clicked on (Force Quit reported app frozen).
Deleted iTunes using AppZap then downloaded iTunes from Apple website.
iTunes now back up on iMac but can't find any of the music files (even when I carefully repoint the iTunes to the correct location for the iTunes library by iTunes/Preferences/Advanced then Change iTunes Media Folder Location). Each entry in the iTunes library now has a black exclamation mark against it,
Also, iTunes doesn't see my iPhone when I plug it in.
Also, when I plug in my iPod, get the error message "The iPod is synced with anotehr iTunes library. Do you want to erase this iPod and sync with this iTunes library?"
    HELP!
By the way, I have TIME MACHINE running to a separate and dedicated HD. Can I not just "roll back" my iMac in the same way I could do with a PC, say selecting the iMac when it was last working fine (yesterday evening)??
Keeping fingers crossed and hoping for an answer....
    Chris

Rather than create another "iPhone not recognized by iTunes" thread, I'll add to this one. I have an iPhone 3G 8GB.
After going through those steps you listed, my Windows XP installation always reverts back to the old Windows Apple iPhone drivers which only sees it as a camera. I've had it set to only pull from the iTunes drivers by specifying "Don't search, I will choose the driver to install" in the Hardware Update Wizard. Windows still doesn't like the iTunes drivers stating "the specified location does not contain information about your hardware". This location is the same as you noted: "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers" which contains:
    usbaapl.cat
    usbaapl.inf
    usbaapl.sys
    All dated 7/22/2008.
My current drivers for the iPhone in my setup are still the MS drivers, version 5.1.2600.0.
    usbscan.sys
    ptpusb.dll
    ptpusd.dll
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Since you are using a Windows based computer, could be anti virus software preventing iTunes from "seeing" the iPhone.

Why does this stupid Apple TV not recognize my itunes account??

if you mean home sharing then
home sharing is not set on the appletv but on the itunes program on the computer which lib one wish to share
the home share password need not be the appleID password as homeshare is also meant to share your media with others on your LAN network whom you may not wish to know your appleID password
so home sharing password is set seperately in ituens on your computer

  • Ipod touch not recognize by itune

My ipod Touch is not recognize by itune, someone cant help me please?

Close iTunes and disconnect your ipod from the computer. Reopen iTunes first, then reconnect the iPod.
If this doesn't work., close iTunes and disconnect the iPod agian. Goto START/RUN and type "services.msc" (with no quotes). When it opens look for "SSDP DISCOVERY". Right click on it and choose Restart, this will also want to restart the UnPnp Host Device, click Yes. And then Open iTunes, and reconnect your iPod.
If that doesn't work, then uninstall and reinstall iTunes.
    I hope that helps!

MY DAUGHTERS IPOD TOUCH HAD NO AVAILABLE SPACE LEFT IN MEMORY SO WE TRIED TO CONNECT IT TO ITUNES TO SAVE PICS TO MY LAPTOP AND THEN UPDATE IT BUT ITUNES SAID IT DID NOT RECOGNIZE THIS DEVICE. SINCE THEN, IT IS ONLY DISPLAYING WHAT I WOULD SAY IS THE LOADING CIRCLE SPINNING AROUND AND AROUND THEN SHOWS THE APPLE LOGO FOR A SECOND THEN GOES BACK TO THE SPINNING CIRCLE. IT CANNOT CONNECT TO ITUNES NOW BECAUSE ITS LOCKED BUT WE CAN'T GET THE MAIN SCREEN TO OPEN IT WITH THE PASSWORD...PLEASE HELP

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Iphone not recognized by itunes or iphoto

Help please! iTunes and iPhoto no longer recognizes my iphone 4.
I have a MacBook Pro... I have checked for all software updates on both...
IOS 7.0.2 on iphone is installed
Latest version for iTunes installed (11.1.1 or something)
The reason for installing IOS 7 was to get it done before not installing it gave me issues... then i had to upgrade itunes... ZZZZzzz iphoto is apparently up to date too....
They recognized the iphone for about 5 minutes then it dropped off again. My iphone is charging as I type and I have tried about 3 different cables and it doesn't work for any of them. Furthermore, I plugged in my friend's phone into my mac and it worked.
I am hoping that it is a simple solution although I think have tried every solution to date presented..... since it seems absolutely absurd that a macbook would not recognize an iphone in itunes.... anyway.
    Help appreciated
    Polly

    Thanks for your response
as I have said , I have the latest iTunes installed.
I also did not think it was necessary to mention but I obviously rebooted my machine several times.
IF anyone has other suggestions I would be grateful.
    Thanks
