IPhone not restoring from backup

When I try to restore my not jailbroken iphone 4 from a backup on itunes, it completes about 70% of it and then stops.  The progress bar stops moving, and I have left it overnight and when I come back it hasn't progressed at all.  I have tried it multiple times from multiple backups done on different dates.  What should I do?

Sorry, there is no way to preserve your data. The restore from backup process is all or nothing.

  • IPhone 4 restore from backup loop?

So the other day I accidentally deleted all the texts to my girlfriend. So i read about this on the internet and it told me to back up the iPhone and restore from the backup to get my texts back. So I tried it and after i restored from the created backup, the iPhone was backup to normal, except all my apps and music was missing. So i went to iTunes to sync it to get everything back, when i realised iTunes was back at the "set up as new iphone or restore from backup" screen again. So i clicked restore from backup and selected the backup again and it did its business. Then when it was finished it returned to the "set up as new iphone or restore from backup" screen yet again! This now happens everytime I try restore from the backup. I've put the iPhone into restore mode and resored the 5.0.1 firmeware many times, but when i click on restore from backup, it does the same thing as above. I've made sure iTunes is the latest and run the diagnostics but everything up to date and working. Please help, i do not want to lose my messages or have to set the iPhone up as new.
    Any help is appreciated
    Thanks in advance

The iPhone Backup Extractor extracts data from iPhone backups. As such, so long as the last backup was taken before the data was deleted, it will recover your information automatically. However, if the data was deleted before your backup was taken, it makes sense that the backup won't contain your data. Fortunately, Apple don't purge deleted data from their database files, so it is often possible to recover some deleted SMS, note and contact data. By extracting the SQLite databases from your backup in Expert mode, and opening them in Notepad, you should see fragments of any data that has been deleted. This isn't the easiest way to recover data, and reassembling contact information isn't easy, but it's better than losing the data altogether!

  • Music not restoring from backup during new iPhone 5 setup

Quick question.  Recently puchased iPhone5 and need to transfer everything from old iPhone4.  I've performed a manual backup in iTunes.  When connecting the new phone and selecting restore from backup, it restores everything but the music and the playlists.  I have no idea why.  This process worked with my phone, but when it comes to my wifes the music never restores.  The only difference between the 2 devices is that she likes to manully manage her music, so the sync only checked items and the sync music boxes are unchecked.  I don't see why this would prevent the music from being backed up though.  Any suggestions?

    rockmyplimsoul wrote:
Instead of manually managing the music on your iPhone, manually manage the contents of a playlist and auto-sync to that playlist.  You're doing the same thing, just managing a playlist instead of your phone.  The beauty of this is that you never lose track of what you manually chose to sync to your iPhone.
Oh that's what I do now, lol. I just (naively) assumed that my phone was doing that for me, so to speak. When I first put music on my phone (manually) I assumed that if I manually synced my music, the information relating thereto would be included in my backup data. If I had known it wasn't, I would have dumped all my songs into an "iPhone" playlist and then copied that playlist to my phone. Problem solved. I just didn't know that at the time.
iTunes, and Apple in general, does so many good things that this clearly isn't a huge complaint. But it strikes me that most people who manually selected their "iPhone" music probably don't want to "lose" that carefully selected music when they upgrade their phone. And maybe I'm an idiot but it took me a little digging to wind up here to find out why my music hadn't transferred, and how to go about "rectifying" it (ie you bloody can't, really, you just start anew).
Maybe I'm asking too much, but I find it strange that there isn't an import feature on the iPhone - provided the corresponding file is found on the iTunes being used. Especially since it's the same computer the phone is synced to, to begin with. A) I'm giving music to myself, B) I'm not even giving myself music, because I already have the corresponding music in iTunes, so there's clearly no threat of file-sharing. Barring that, maybe a warning when you choose to manually sync music to your phone. (Apologies to Apple if I'm wrong, but I don't remember seeing one.)
Again, this clearly didn't ruin my life, but everything on my phone synced seamlessly except my music. It only took me 15 minutes or so to recreate my iPhone playlist, but it took me a good hour to figure out why I had to (and how to avoid having to in the future). It was a strange hiccup from a company that pretty much always makes my life easier (unless I need to run Flash).
In the end I got to read a bunch of Allan's posts, which did provide some entertainment

  • Backing up an iPad/iPhone and Restoring from Backup

To preface this post, I have always had Apple products and currently own an iPhone, iPad and MacBook Pro. I have also spent about 4 hours on the phone with Apple support staff and they recommended I make a post on the Apple Support Forums.
Basically, this is a warning that when you backup your iPad or iPhone, Apple only backups contacts, notes, photos, calendars, and mail.
According to the third representative I spoke to, Apple does not, I repeat DOES NOT, actually back up music and playlists in your iTunes on your devices or backup the apps you have on them.
I had to get my iPad replaced because the smart cover was corroding and I did a full backup before I brought my iPad in to the Apple store. When I tried to restore from backup, everything but my iTunes libraries and my apps reappeared. For most, the iTunes wouldn't matter, but I was using a newish computer and had not yet organized my music library, although I had transferred all the songs back from an external drive. The apps are always a pain, since you have to manually download all of the ones you want after going to your purchases in the iTunes store.
However, a helpful thing I did learn, despite the fact that all my music from my iPad was gone, was that you can restore old playlists by quitting iTunes and going to Finder > Home > Music > iTunes and selecting iTunes Music Library.xml and dragging it to the desktop. Then you open iTunes and click File > Library > Import Playlist and select iTunes Music Library.xml from your desktop.
Anyway, this is one of the first times I have been thoroughly fed up with Apple: if their policy is to not back up music or apps when a user clicks backup, then they need to make it clear. Before I restored from backup, those files appeared in my iTunes as if they existed, although according to my Apple representative, they never did.

All the information about what gets backed up is available from Apple.  Here's the article explaining what is contained in iTunes backups (see "iTunes will back up the following information"):
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4946
Most people will not have the unfortunate coincidence that you had wherein you wanted to restore a backup because your iPad needed replacement and simultaneously had an issue with your computer that had been storing your music.
So although the iTunes backup does not contain your music, you could subscribe to iTunes Match as described here and get that music all stored in the iCloud for you.

    I hope this helps.

  • CANT GET MY BACKUP iPHONE TO RESTORE FROM BACKUP

I had to take in my everyday iPhone 3G 16G to get it replaced under warranty. I backed it up before I took it in,and then tried to do a restore from backup to my spare iPhone 3G 8G. It will transfer all of the contacts, text messages, calendar, and such, but it wont transfer my apps to the backup 8G iPhone. Some of the apps arent available anymore and I dont want to lose them. What can I do? I hear people have this problem a lot.
Also, how do I back up the iPhone im using to keep anything recent so when I do a restore to my new iPhone that I get back? Is this possible?
    Thanks!!!!

How does not being able to transfer the apps from your iTunes library to your spare iPhone equate to losing the apps?
People do not have this problem a lot. There is no device limit for the number of iDevices that can be synced with the same iTunes library and iTunes account on the same computer.
Which firmware version was your 16GB running and which firmware version is your spare iPhone running? That can affect the apps in your iTunes library being installed on the iPhone.

  • IPhone 5 Restore from Backup apps won't sync

I had to reinstall IOS 8 and then restore from backup.  The restore works fine.  When the phone is syncing, at step 5 it says "Syncing apps".  It gets stuck at number 2.  No errors, just sits there.  I have let it sit for 10 hours.  This happens if I restore from a local backup or from iCloud.  My phone is working now, but has no apps, no content, etc.

I had this exact problem when setting up my new iPhone 6. My solution wasn't pretty as I went through and clicked off install for all the apps, got a successful sync without apps then clicked them all back to install and synced again. I got all my apps installed, but lost all my folders and had to redo organizing over 350 apps into folders.

  • Should I set up as new iPhone or restore from backup 3GS to 4S?

  • IPhone will not restore from backup after upgrading to iOS4

    Hey guys,
I updated to iOS4 just fine on my iPhone 3G 16gb model. Unfortunately, what occurred after that is what's giving me a headache. Whenever I try to restore my iPhone from the backup I created, my laptop keeps freezing when it hits about 8-10% completion. It has no major problems with freezing or locking up, and I'm pretty sure that my iTunes is the problem. My phone will now no longer play my music, nor will it even display half of my custom ringtones(even though they appear on my ringtones list under my iPhone in iTunes), nor will it display any of the songs that I purchased through iTunes on my phone recently.
Most of the other features are working fine, though I have not tested everything. I still receive text messages, phone calls, and can access the internet, so it works how I absolutely need it to, but this is becoming an extremely frustrating ordeal. Please let me know if anyone has experienced something similar or knows of a solution.
    Thanks!

I can't find anything specific on that error code, but this Apple article may give you some ideas on how to fix it: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1275
You may have to "Restore as New" if you cannot get it to restore from a backup. You will lose your game data but that is about the extent of the effect.

  • I am syncing my iphone for the first time and I do not know if I should select set up as a new iPhone or restore from backup of my iPod? Can someone help?

I have never had an iPhone before and I want to make sure I can share my music correctly without erasing anything.

If you want to have the music and apps in your iPhone, i suggest setting up from backup.
You can also always manually install them back even if you do a set up as new.

  • Non-recurring calendar entries did not restore from backup

I synch contacts and calendar from PC, music and video from Mac. In the past, when I synced a new iphone for the first time, the backup on Itunes on my Mac automatically restored all contacts and calendar entries onto the new iPhone. Today, however, when I did the maiden sync on new 3GS (old iphone was first generation), my contacts and settings seem to have generally been restored, but none of my calendar entries made it over except for a few repeat calendar entries. I'm assuming I will pick up the missing calendar entries when I do my first sync to PC, but does anyone have a theory as to why this happened? Shouldn't all contacts and calendar entries be restored from the backup on the Mac, even though I do not keep my contacts and calendar on the Mac? Thanks for the help.

Follow up to my post -- I now realize that the contacts that got restored to my 3GS are in fact way outdated -- so it appears that the backup from which I restored, while it seems to have had current settings, had very outdated contacts and calendar. It may be that at one time the backup process captured contacts and calendar but no longer does, which I guess means the user has to sync to the computer where he syncs contacts and calendar to get current data onto the iphone (just like I did for music). This may sound obvious to most people, but bear in mind that my 3GS got a list of contacts (and some calendar entries) from SOMEWHERE when I synced to my Mac, even though my Mac has no such data (it is on my PC in Outlook).

  • Optonline emails not restored from backup

After restoring new ip4 from backup i noticed my optonline emails (inbox and sent) were not restored. My yahoo emails (inbox and sent) were fine. Anyone with an optonline account lose their info? btw i did put my optonline password in settings for incoming and outgoing and i did test it and it works fine going forward, just lost all old emails.

I did not hear about other having these issues... They way you backed up your data should have worked! The only thing I could think about why it did not work, is that you presses sync instead of Backup my iPhone. An therefore the Backup was not fully done (like your mac only asks you to import/save applications from your iPhone to your iTunes library if you hit Back up... if you hit sync it will not ask you.)
I guess you do not want to use iCloud for your Keychain because of security reasons... well there are 3rd party solutions like 1 Password that let you sync your password over Wifi... so your data never gets stored on a server at apple or anywhere else in a cloud. But it is quite expensive to buy 1 Password for your mac and your iPhone.

In case you do not remember all your passwords this might help, but i never tried it myself:
