hi guys i updated ios 5 and when install i got -50 error and failed to restore now my iphone is not visible in itunes and iphone displays connect to itunes and when i insert the usb it gives double beep sound when unplugged it gives single beep pls suggest me wat can be done

Error -50 is a timeout error. Apple's advice on how to resolve this is:
Perform USB isolation troubleshooting, including trying a different USB port directly on the computer. See the advanced steps below for USB troubleshooting.
Put a USB 2.0 hub between the device and the computer.
Try a different USB 30-pin dock-connector cable.
Eliminate third-party security software conflicts.
There may be third-party software installed that modifies your default packet size in Windows by inserting one or more TcpWindowSize entries into your registry. Your default packet size being set incorrectly can cause this error. Contact the manufacturer of the software that installed the packet-size modification for assistance. Or, follow this article by Microsoft: How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) to reset the packet size back to the default for Windows.
Connect your computer directly to your Internet source, bypassing any routers, hubs, or switches. You may need to restart your computer and modem to get online.
Try to restore from another known-good computer and network.

ITunes song purchases made using iPhone not visible in iTunes on desktop

My wife purchased some music on her iPhone 4S, and wants to transfer it to her Nano for running. When I launch iTunes on my desktop and sign in as her, the only music showing is one of my songs that I downloaded for free. Her music shows up on her 4S, and even on the 5S we just activated today, shich is also associated with her apple ID. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Have you downloaded the music onto that computer from the store or copied it from her phone ? If you use the same iTunes account then you should be able to redownload it via the Purchased link under Quicklinks on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page :
If you don't share the same account then you could login to her account and redownload it, but that might tie the computer to her account for 90 days : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4627
You can also connect her phone to the computer and do File > Devices > Transfer Purchases to copy those songs over. But if that isn't the computer that she syncs the phone then you should turn off auto-sync first : Edit > Preferences, Devices tab, 'Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from syncing automatically' tickbox.

I have an iPhone 5 and a MacBook Pro. Operating system is OS X 10.8.3. All software updates have been done. My iPhone is not visible in iTunes. Computer and phone have plenty of memory left. USB connection is secure and normal. I have gone through all the Apple support suggestions and nothing has helped. HELP!

I have the same issue, with my brand new iphone 5s, and my 4 month old dell desktop. The computer recognizes the iphone when i plug in the usb, but itunes will not. I dont know what to do.

I have an iphone 4 and a Mac. I tried to sync my phone today and I am working for over 5 hours and for nothing.
I have OS 7.1.2 for iphone, I upgraded the Mac to OS Yosemite, I upgraded for the latest version of itunes 12.1, I have a brand new and original USB cable, I read all the help regarding the issue, I restarted both devices, I removed all the other usb devices. The phone is not visible in itunes.
Please I need an answer if you had this kind of problem this year.

IPhone not recognized by iTunes any more

iTunes 9.0.2 on a 2006 iMac 2GHz intel duo running OSX 10.5.8
iPhone 3Gs 32 gig
iPod (5th gen)
3 external hard drives, all the iTunes library stored on a Mybook 1 TB Firewire drive plugged into iMac direct, not via a Firewire hub.
I plugged my iPhone into the Mac this am, tried to sync the iPhone and got an error message saying that something was wrong with my iTunes.
Mac then froze.
Finally got the Mac back up after five attempts (eventually, had to unplug everything, including the mains to the iMac, plug in just the power, keyboard and mouse, press and hold power switch for 5 secs then plug in each extra drive when the Mac came back up).
Found something seriously wrong with iTunes as it wouldn't open when clicked on (Force Quit reported app frozen).
Deleted iTunes using AppZap then downloaded iTunes from Apple website.
iTunes now back up on iMac but can't find any of the music files (even when I carefully repoint the iTunes to the correct location for the iTunes library by iTunes/Preferences/Advanced then Change iTunes Media Folder Location). Each entry in the iTunes library now has a black exclamation mark against it,
Also, iTunes doesn't see my iPhone when I plug it in.
Also, when I plug in my iPod, get the error message "The iPod is synced with anotehr iTunes library. Do you want to erase this iPod and sync with this iTunes library?"
HELP!
By the way, I have TIME MACHINE running to a separate and dedicated HD. Can I not just "roll back" my iMac in the same way I could do with a PC, say selecting the iMac when it was last working fine (yesterday evening)??

Rather than create another "iPhone not recognized by iTunes" thread, I'll add to this one. I have an iPhone 3G 8GB.
After going through those steps you listed, my Windows XP installation always reverts back to the old Windows Apple iPhone drivers which only sees it as a camera. I've had it set to only pull from the iTunes drivers by specifying "Don't search, I will choose the driver to install" in the Hardware Update Wizard. Windows still doesn't like the iTunes drivers stating "the specified location does not contain information about your hardware". This location is the same as you noted: "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers" which contains:
usbaapl.cat
usbaapl.inf
usbaapl.sys
All dated 7/22/2008.
My current drivers for the iPhone in my setup are still the MS drivers, version 5.1.2600.0.

ptpusd.dll

IPhone not recognized by iTunes after update

I recently downloaded & installed the latest update for iTunes and it actually removed iTunes and put and extra (& useless) shortcut for quicktime in my desktop. I uninstalled everything and reinstalled iTunes and quicktime with nor problem. I hooked up the iPhone and downlaoded the latest update for it as well and it crashed during the installation of it. I have since had to reboot on my roomates pc and it will not be come up in iTunes. My computer still recognizes it though. I have gone through all the steps in apples site and microsoft and have no clue what to do now. I use this thing all day every day and need the music and video capablities for "work" purposes. If anyone can help, thanks.

Symptoms:
iPhone not recognized by iTunes on Windows computer, however an iPod will.
The iPhone CAMERA appears in windows My Computer - but nowhere else.
Problem:
The Apple iPhone Driver has been replaced by a Microsoft Driver which enables the camera/storage, but did not allow it to connect with iTunes.
SOLUTION:
From Device Manager, Select the iPhone (under imaging/Portable Devices) and then select "Update Driver", Don't direct it to automatically search for a driver, instead, manually point it to search in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers - It should then "do it's thing" and install the correct apple driver - voila - iPhone is then recognized.

"podcasts" is not visible in iTunes after software update

iTunes no longer shows "podcasts" as a category. I have several active subscriptions--they seem to have disappeared. All of the other usual categories (e.g., music, TV shows) are still there. This occurred immediately after I downloaded today's iTunes upgrade. I have tried downloading more podcasts. That happens fine--but they are not visible from iTunes after the download.

I can re-check the "podcasts" box in the Windows version. It's not grayed out. But there doesn't seem to be any way to save my changes. Didn't the "preferences" dialog box used to have a "save changes" button at the bottom?

HELP, Ipod nano 4 GB v 1.2 not visible in itunes v7.02.16

I did the update for Itunes v7.02.16 and after this my ipod nano 4 GB firmware v1.2 was not visible in itunes but in de windows explorer it was shown. I was more then a hour on the phone with a support guy, with the result (his opinion) that it was a hardware problem. His advice was updating the usb driver. I did, but the problems was not solved. I did the same install on 2 other computer and all gave the same problems, I've tried all the solutions on the faq etc, the 5 R's etc.
A strange thing is that de diagnostic in Itunes tells me all the information about the connectec ipod, it shows the serial nummer. name, busspeed, firmware etc.
WHO can help, my mind is empty.

I am having a similar problem. However, I have not updated my USB drive. How did you do that?
For the support guy (or gal)...I have an iPod nano 2 GB and when I plug it into my USB port (I have 2 ports and have tried both) iTunes opens but doesn't recognize that my iPod is connected. When I run iPod diagnostics through iTunes it says iPod Connection Status-Failed, even though it is connected. I cannot sync my iPod via iTunes. I have tried numerous troubleshooters on the apple.com support website without any success (reinstalling iTunes, etc.) I took it to an Apple store this weekend and when they hooked my iPod up with my cable, their Mac recognized my iPod. If anyone can help me with this I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

Gen2 ATV not visible in ITUNES 10.1.54, any others?

Cable-connected.
Have opened port 3689TCP and 5353UDP in NETGEAR FIREWALL.
I can see ATV in the firewall, it gets syncronized, it has an IP,
but not visible in ITUNES, Weird.
I can see my library in ATV etc..my computer..
The ICON ATV in ITUNES was there when I had Gen 1.
HAve done a total factory reset, entered all info and such, started homelibrary etc.

ATV2 won't show up on your library list as it does not store any media on the internal storage other than buffering. Where as the ATV1 had a hard drive with media stored on it would appear in the pane as shared media.

Help. My Iphone 4s and mini are not found in Itunes on my new HP ENVY dv6-7246us Notebook PC that is running windows 8. I have tried all four of the usb slots; eventually the mini was discovered however after a reinstall of Itunes, neither are found.

Since you are using a Windows based computer, could be anti virus software preventing iTunes from "seeing" the iPhone.

You can also try turning off the Firewall.
And try iPhone: Restarting the Apple Mobile Device Service (AMDS) on Windows
