IPhone only shows up as a device in iTunes. Not in iPhoto, Image Capture, or anything else.
Right now, only iTunes sees my iPhone connnected to it. iPhoto doesn't see it, and neither does Image Capture or Xcode. I can sync with iTunes just fine, but I can't get transfer photos from my phone to my MacMini.
I have an iPhone 4 (not 4S) that I recently upgraded to IOS 5. My MacMini is running Lion (10.7.2) & was just purchased last month.
Just checked it. The settings in iPhoto are for "Connecting camera opens: iPhoto"
When I connect the phone, iPhoto will launch, but the iPhone will not show up under devices.
Where's the 2012 version of SCSI Probe when I need it?

Hello Nate, thanx for the solution but that also doesn't worked for me and to name it - I am not willing to disable my firewall to get something running that worked before the atv 2.4 and itunes update - same with my network settings - after trying static IPs I returned to DHCP - so if there are friends in my network they don't need to adjust anything at their devices! And I am not working with WLAN - just simple cable - good, fast and save!
My atv has a static MAC-Address isn't it an easy thing for a software to search for it? I am willing to enter it in itunes if I could but I can't!
The whole software programming seems not to be very buggy and insufficent to me!
e.g.
1) The atv reboot-function on the atv-remote with pressing - and menu for 5 seconds always gets me the fancy question mark - so the only real reboot is pulling the plug,
2) On itunes I can test my network, my iphone and my ipod (which I don't have) but why can't I test my apple tv connection?
3) Sometimes I had the problem that I have to sync some content (music and videos) more than one time to be accepted from the atv - even if it was mp3 and mp4 - but that's not a problem anymore while there is not any sync for the atv
It seems to me that I am forced to enable SSH or FTP-connect so I can get rid of itunes! -

OK, I solved it. Here is the solution if you have precisely the problem I had.
1. On the iOS device: delete the iCloud account.
2. Go to the Apple ID website and make sure the ONLY email there is the me.com email and that it is set as primary. If you Mac.com email is listed as a secondary email THIS will cause the problem. So delete the Mac.com email.
3. Log back in to iCloud on the iOS device.
Only you wanted to use the Mac.com address and not the me.com one, you could follow the above instructions just swapping me and Mac. -
My iPhone doesn't show up as a Device in iTunes via wi-fi.
How come I can't sync by wi-fi? My iPhone doesn't show up as a Device in iTunes unless it's connected by USB cable. "Sync with this iPhone over Wi-Fi" is checked in iTunes. (I can sync ONLY by USB cable--ironic because I won't upgrade to Mavericks until it allows USB local syncing.) What am I missing?

iPhone 5 with iOS 7.1Is your iPhone plugged in to a charger? I believe that is a requirement for WiFi sync.

I sync my iPhone and iPad to my Mac running Mavericks using USB local syncing all the time.
Maybe you're referring to the fact that iCloud is the sync mechanism for Contacts and Calendars now. If not, I don't understand your comment. -

I just got an iPhone 4S and am unable to get it to show up as a device in iTunes.
I previously backed up my old iPhone on my Windows 7 PC. When I connect my 4S to the PC it is recognized by the PC but does not show up as a device in iTunes.
I have turned off all virus protection software & have tried uninstalling iTunes and all associated Apple software. I reinstalled all Apple software with no results in my 4S showing up as a device in iTunes.

I'm trying to recover a file and the app company said to restore from an earlier backup. My iPhone only shows the most recent backup. I've been searching the net for answers - I found the back up file and date sorted them (over 6mb of files). How can I get my iPhone to restore from an earlier backup?
I am on Windows Vista so I don't have Time Machine.
I have backed up the backup folder so if I mess it up, I have it in a separate place.
Can I just delete all the files with todays date in that backup folder and have it forced to the next oldest date?
Why doesn't the iPhone show a list of the least several backups.

Backed up to computer through iTunes (not iCloud)As you backup the iPhone in iTunes, it overwrites the last backup. Files are kept as they are changed, so that would explain how you get different dates in your backup folder. The only backups that are saved and not overwritten are the ones done just prior to a restore. You do have the option to go back in time on a Windows computer, however depending on the last time you set a restore point in Windows, it could be back further than you are willing to go.

My iPhone 5s wont show up as a device in itunes
It is a new replacement phone with my sim card in it but no data on it. when I plug it into my computer itunes will not open but the computer says its charging and it registers as a device on the computer. In itunes it will not come up as a device. I do not want to reinstall itunes as I have music that isn't saved to icloud in my library that I don't want t lose. My connector cable is not an apple product but has worked with my previous iphone 5s (showed up as a device and synced yesterday). If someone could help me I would be so grateful. Also I'm using windows 8.1 and have upgraded to the newest version of itunes.

Hi Why do you need to use a PC since iOS 7 you can download updates Apps everything Over wifi I have iPhone 5 s & 2 ipads in over a year I have never connected them to My Apple pc Try a wifi update If you have problems Try a Reboot press & hold power button & menu button hold both Down until You see Apple Logo you will not last any data. iphone only shows logo for 13 seconds when connected to pc thats all it does however i connected to wall socket, it goes up to connect to itunes but when i unplug it then it switches off.
this is coincidently after an ios update for iphone which i did just approx two days earlier which was suppused to fix battery issues?
also battery shows 100 percent full but as i explained if disconected from socket it switches off altogether.Hopefully and most likely faulty battery. If you have Warranty or AppleCare, make Genius reservation and take to Apple for resolution.

I was updating the software on my iphone4. I got a message saying that it could not update. Now my iphone will not reboot. It only shows a pic to connect to itunes, but nothing is happening when i connect it. How do I fix this?
If you're not a developer then you really should not have upgraded.
I'm unsure how you can fix this as you have already done a back-up on iOS 7 and apple don't support firmware downgrades. -

Unfortunately, Apple cannot and will not help you unless your iPhone is returned to the US (in person, not by international mail). The warranty is not international. This topic has been discussed on this forum since before the 5s was released. Please tell all of your friends not to buy an iPhone in another country unless they are willing to forego warranty and service from Apple. -
