Iphone os 4.2.6 no text sound now

I just setup my new phone yesterday...all is great. Today I upgraded the os to 4.2.6 and now the text sounds don't work. Pressing volumn buttons doesn't do anything. I can access the Sounds menu and change the ringtone but the text sounds don't work...and i don't get any email notification other than a vibrate. Yes, the sounds are activated...and "Change with buttons" is yes.
also when I go to play the ipod...no sound via speaker...any help?

Yup that is the first thing i checked..when I flipped it on and off it had no effect. I decided to test something and plugged in the headphones...when i then used the volumn..the control worked. I unplugged them and magically now all control seems normal. Very strange...almost like it wasn't fully reset. I know the install worked...and the device did reboot.
strange...very strange.

You have the iPhone 3GS, not the 3G. The last update to support the iPhone 3G is 4.2.1.
iOS 4.3.3 includes bug fixes etc. There is nothing really special about this update that wasn't introduced in iOS 4.3. iOS 5 is the one to wait for - it will be released in the Autumn/Fall and includes over '200' new features/improvements.
The additional text tines and ringtones were an iPhone 4-only feature.

i have the same problem.and i found out, if my iphone vibrates,there is a new message, but its not shown.
if i restart my iphone after these vibrations, the new messages appear.very strange.
i hope Apple will fix this problem soon.

My iphone will not vibrate or make a sound when receiving a text message

for some reason since yesterday, my Iphone will not vibrate or make a sound when I receive a normal or Imessage text message.
I double checked that vibration works in general and it does. so does the sound file for the Text tone.
My ringer works fine as well as vibration for incoming calls but nothing works with a normal text message (even whatsapp works fine).
I have no idea what could be the issue here.
Any ideas?

- Unmute your phone
- Set your Ringtone to default
- Adjust your volume
- If you're on iOS6 - DO NOT DISTURB feature turn it OFF

Iphone 5 text sounds not working

I have to shut the phone off and turn it back on several times a week to get text sounds back again, don't say take it to the apple store as I have already done that because my original iphone 5 lock button was having issues and the text sounds were doing the same thing on that one also and they replaced it with a new one and the new one is doing the same thing and they have no clue as to why this is happening, does anyone here have any ideas.

Since updating to iOS7.0.4, my iPhone 4S rarely plays text sounds or in-app sounds. Also volume control is no longer functioning using side buttons. When can we expect a fix Apple?

Have done recovery, reset settings, reset content and settings. Nothing changes the fact that its 7.0.4.
Ringtone sound works. Can adjust ringtone sound in settings but it wont play text sounds from in settings. Definitely appears to be a firmware bug.
Can someone from Apple ackowledge this issue please and advise how long till it is fixed? I am missing important texts that i need to be recieving.

It doesn't appear to affect every 4S. I don't know if theres specific batches it affects or maybe its location based, but i have a friend who has the same phone as me and theirs did exactly the same thing only after doing the firmware update. I'm pretty confident it is a bug. Looking around on google, it seems like its happening to a lot of other 4S users.
I have done a settings reset, didn't fix it. Did a settings and content reset, didn't fix it. Did a full recovery back to the backup i did when i first purchased it, didn't fix it. None of these things changes the firmware.
I am pretty appalled that apple would release a firmware upgrade with such an obvious problem for 4S users. Did they not test it first? Now i am finding multiple texts from people asking me things hours after they messaged me because the sounds don't work. Not impressed.

There are two places where vibrations can be set.
One is the Settings > Sounds
The other area is Settings > Notifications
If you have an app set to Alert, it may have a vibration set for it.

IF you have installed/activated Verizon Message+ on your phone, then yes you can. If not, you are out of luck.
If they are iMessages on an iPhone, you could log into your iMessage account on an Apple computer to read the iMessages, but would be unable to view SMS/MMS.

How can I change text sound iOS 6?

I have a new iPhone 4S, running iOS 6. I have repeatedly tried to change the sound for when I receive a text, and it will not stay as selected. I finally tried restarting the phone, but still will not accept selected sound. It is playing the 'swoosh' sound, and have tried to change to either ding or default. Can anyone tell me how to change it?

After reading another post re: iPhone 3GS, I tried selecting text sound, then going to contacts, picking one and selecting a sound for that contact, but don't want to have to go thru entire list!! Still will not change sound for all.

Awwww......that's it....the dash! I tapped it. Tried to drag it up/down and it didn't move. Now I swiped and it's back!
