IPhone Outgoing Voice Garbled on 3G and EDGE

About 3 days ago, I started to experience an issue with my 3G iPhone running 2.2 software. On incoming and outgoing calls I can hear the person on the other end but my voice is garbled and/or filled with a lot of static. This occurs on both the AT&T EDGE and 3G networks with and without the factory-provided headset. However, if I switch the speakerphone function on, both parties can hear each other normally. What I thought was particularly interesting is that when I use Truphone to make a VoIP call, everything functions normally as well. While I first thought that this could be some sort of hardware issue, the last test made it seem more along the lines of a software problem. I have powered on/off the phone, rebooted the phone, restored it to backup and restored to a new phone all with the same result. Has anyone else experienced this issue and been able to resolve it? I have an appointment at the Genius Bar on Friday but am hoping to be able to resolve this on my own.

+Yesterday morning, I receive a call on my iPhone. I answer and they can't hear me. I hang up thinking it's a bad connection and dial them back. Same thing happens. I can hear them just fine, but they can't hear me.+

+2. I do a full restore. Same problem. The only thing the other person can hear is a little bit of digital noise, like a swirly sound.+
+3. I call AppleCare and we go through the list of potential fixes. Nothing works. They send me to the Apple Store.+

+This morning, I get to the office and the same problem is happening again.+
+I know there are others on this forum who have experienced the same problem. But if it is happening to everyone at the same time, would it be an AT&T problem or an Apple problem?+
+If it's an Apple problem, replacing the phone should have worked. But if it's an AT&T problem, it should happen across the board, and not to just nine people that day. That Genius Bar guy would have been bombarded with angry iPhone owners.+

+UPDATE: (January 7, 2009, 9:30am) I am on hold with Apple Tech support and they are trying to find a solution. As an experiment, we tried turning 3G off and it worked. Obviously, not a long-term solution, but effective for getting a call to go through.+
+Any other input? I will update this thread if I receive a helpful fix from Apple or AT&T. These threads aren't any help unless there is a solution posted.+

    I am getting the same complaints from people I talk to on the phone.  I started keeping track of when it was happening.  The only common factor that I can find is that all complaints are happening when I am talking to someone while I am in a loud environment.
    I tuned off the "Phone Noise Cancelation" feature about a week ago and I have not had any complaints since.  You can find this feature in the settings icon then go to General then look for Accessibility.  The Phone Noise Cancelation option is about half way down the page under accessibility.

Periodically, my voicemails on the new phone disappear; all messages old and new. This occurs out of the blue. Similarly they at times reappear, but the new messages have no content and all show up as 0.00minutes. Randomly, some messages retrieve their content and I can listen to them, often too late to respond to the caller. This is very annoying and almost questions why the voicemail exists at all. I have taken the phone to Sprint multiple times and performed countless resets with no recourse, hence they suggested contacting Apple. Has anyone else experienced this or know of a viable solution? iOS is up to date, phone only used in USA

  • IPhone G3 with prepaid sim : disable G3 and edge ?

    I have a iPhone G3 (2.2) with prepaid sim card.
    I want to use the iPhone for calls and connection to internet only by WiFi.
    WiFi is OK, but when I recharge the prepay sim card, the iPhone connects to internet by G3 or Edge (although I disabled G3).
    Now the prepay gets to ZERO in 3 days...
    How to configure the iPhone to NOT connect to internet by G3 or Edge ?

    You cannot, unless your carrier disables data connectivity on your account. You can turn on Airplane Mode then turn Wi-Fi back on, which will prevent you from using cellular data, but also prevent voice calls.

  • I have orphaned voice memos on my iPhone5 and cannot delete. Listed in iTunes but not on my iPhone's Voice Memo app.

    When I upgraded from my iPhone 4 to iPhone 5, a bunch of voice memos were orphaned.
    What this means is that when I connect my iPhone to iTunes, I see the voice memos.
    They are listed in iTunes under my iPhone directories  "Voice Memo" and in "Music".
    But I cannot delete these.
    When I go to my iPhone, the Voice memo app has changed (ok) and you can see there
    are no voice memos. It appears that they are orphaned from the voice memo app.
    So the voice memos are in my phone somewhere.
    How can I delete them or export them or something with them?
    I can't play them except on iTunes. They don't show up in Music in my iPhone.

    Well, what happens when you try to use it. That would help in the troubleshooting. Have you contacted your cellular carrier? Voicemail is a carrier function.

    I would try a Reset first: Hold down the home and sleep buttons, wait for the Apple logo, let go of the buttons.

  • IPhone 4 all of a sudden voice over is on and Enter Passcode does not accept passcode

    When I try typing the passcode, the boxes do not show the bulleted item. I have shutdown the iPhone, and when it restarts it says that voice over is activated, and asks me to enter the passcode. When i attempt to key in the passcode none of the boxes get populated with the bullet.As I type each character for the passcode the voiceover repeates it, then replys with the letters TUV...

  • IPhone (4) Voice Memos not Syncing to New iTunes 10.0

    I'm currently on an iPhone 4 (4.0.1 firmware) and I've been experiencing issues getting my voice memos to sync to my iTunes library.
    The last time this worked was August 27, 2010 which added 3 voice memos to my iTunes library successfully. Since then, I have not yet updated my firmware but have installed the new iTunes 10.0. I have 8 new voice memo recordings on my phone since the last successful sync, and I've tried syncing my phone four times today, Sept. 4, (restarting iTunes and my iPhone) with no luck. I tried recording a new voice memo to see if iTunes 10 would recognize any memos recorded after the installation but that failed as well.
    Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

    I've always had the "Include Voice Memos" option selected. I think that only pertains to syncing voice memos from iTunes to the iPhone after it has been copied to iTunes. It has to be the new OS/iTunes not communicating that new memos have been recorded. For some reason they won't sync when I want them to, and then a few syncs later they magically appear.
    By the way, I'm VERY comfortable with the iTunes and iPhone systems. I've been using iTunes for 5 years, and I've been recording class lectures with the iPhone voice memo app (and another app) for a couple years. It's not an error of not seeing that the memos were added; they don't exist in my library or music folders.
    JUST OUT OF CURIOSITY, POST WHICH FIRMWARE YOU ARE RUNNING EXACTLY!!!

  • IPhone 6 voice memo won't work

    Hi,
    Just bought and sync'd my new iPhone 6 and everything has worked so far except my voice memo app. Two issues:
    1) When I open the app all of my memos start loading, then the app closes on it's own.
    2) When I reopen the app, voice memos are gone and when I push the red record button, it wiggles a couple of times and then...nothing.
    Thoughts or suggestions. And yes, I've done a power cycle.

    Potential solutions:
    Try going to Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings and see if that makes a difference. You will need to set up some bits and pieces again after, but it won’t delete any files or photos.
    Some owners found it was caused by an old backup. If you are restoring from a backup you made with an older iPhone, that could be the problem. Try setting the iPhone 6 up as new, factory reset it, and then put everything on it manually, and you might find that the problem is gone.
    If it persists, then you may have a hardware fault and you should contact Apple or head into an Apple Store to get it looked at. They should replace it for free if there’s a problem.
