IPhone photo album file name sort order

I have a folder with photos in it on my Mac.  When I sync the folder to my iPhone and view the photos on the phone, the photos are not displaying in file name sort order.  The file names of the photos are numbers (001, 002, 003 etc.).  It seems the photos are being displayed in date created order and not in the file name order.  The album with photos on my Mac is arranged / sorted by the name when syncing.
Is there a way to have the photos in the iPhone album displayed in file name sort order?
Thanks,
David

Focus Point (not free, no ads) will allow you to rename the files, add descriptions, and sort in a variety of ways. But it won't let you do anything in the main screen except browse your photo albums or camera roll, select one, and then you can do a search within that album or camera roll--and then if and only if the photo has a filename or description can you search for it. Bottom line: be sure to give your photos a proper file name and add a description.

PE9 - how can I sort photos by file name so I can drag and drop into the timeline?

Date is all I want to sort by, so for me it is a better way than filename. Originally they were sorted by name on iOS devices (up to iOS 3.1.3), but Apple must have decided (possibly via feedback) that capture date was a better way. You can always try leaving feedback and maybe in the future there will be a choice : http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html
If you want to sort them in a different order then you can do so if you use a Mac and transfer the photos via iPhoto or Aperture. Otherwise you can either manipulate their capture dates prior to syncing so that they are in the order you want (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4221), or there are third-party apps in the iTunes App Store that apparently allow sorting e.g. Photo-Sort for iPad or Sort Shorts iPad Edition

    In a Pictures folder
Name: Dark Knight, The.jpeg       Comment: (2008) Genre: Action...             <- copy comment
    In a Movie Folder
Name: Dark Knight, The.m4v       Comment:                                               <- paste

This Bash script will do it.
Edit "PicDir" and "MovDir" to the location of your Folders

  • Get the ipad to display my photos in file name sequence

How can I get the ipad to display my photos in file name sequence instead of by time/date stamp? I want to display them in a particular sequence controlled by the filename I gave them.

    Hey Tex,
Good idea.  I've found a question that indicates that the ipad sorts by name (https://discussions.apple.com/message/9116248#9116248).  Mine are all sorted by date/time.  How did they do that?
The app you suggested looks promising, but it sounds like i have to manually rearrange my pictures, and since i have hundreds in each folder, this would be tedious.  Is there an app that will allow me to display them by filename w/o me having to rearrange them myself??
    Thanks.

  • IPhone Photo Album - How To...

    Hi guys,
In iPhoto I can see the name of the pictures and search them by name.
But in the iPhone photo album I cannot see the name of the pictures.
    Any way to see them?
I need to see pictures by name as I'm creating different picture folders for plants I use in my business.

  • HT4236 How do I delete the photos in my "Photo library" and "Iphone photo" albums?

    Help in deleting photos
I can look at my photos on my Iphone like a hard drive and copy and paste the photos to my computer. I can then delete a batch at a time on the Iphone camera roll.  However, how do I delete the 242 photos in my "photo library" album and the 242 duplicate photos in my "Iphone photo" album? When I click on the arrow box icon in the upper right corner of my phone, I can click on a photo, but the delete icon is not available.
I am trying to free up more space on my phone and I want to delete these photos that I have already downloaded to my computer.

Check and see if they synced from more than one computer app.
In itunes, Photos> Check mark "Sync Photos from". See what else is in the drop down menu. (i.e. iphoto, pictures folder, Aperture, choose folder, etc.). If you get the option to: Select Albums, Events, Faces and automatically include. Check mark that, and see if any blue album, or events are ticked. If so, uncheck mark and go down and click Apply/Sync.

  • My photo album is not in order by date taken

Thanks, it was set on manual instead of by date (?). Wonder why iphoto help doesn't note that.....  Thanks so much for your help.

  • Can I transfer my individual iPhone photo albums to my MacBook Pro and iPad?

I have taken my photos on my iPhone and broken them down into separate album folders. When I sync my iPhone to my laptop, it will transfer the pictures over, but not in the separate album folders I've created on my iPhone.
Can I somehow transfer my individual iPhone photo albums to my MacBook Pro and iPad?
Why won't the "Album Folders" transfer over? I know I can create separate folders directly on my laptop, but that doesn't help with transferring the folders from my iPhone over to my laptop or iPad.

The Seagate backup drive I bought doesn't support 10.5.8
The only reason I can see for that is it's formatted NTFS, which would likely be Read Only in 10.5.x, if you can reformat it MacOS extended, which would erase everything on it now, then that should work for your purposes.

  • *** cant I sort photos by file name?

Is apple that retarted that it thinks date is a better way than file name?  Are they that full of them selves to not realize people should have an option in photo sorting?
I am a profesional phtogographer and Photo Editor of an international magazine, and I purchased the Ipad to use it to review and shor portfolios.  It is absolutly useless to me, if it re-orders images differently then I have them set.

  • First name last name sort order-how to correct on iphone

    hello all.
i have mobile me (hate that name) set correctly with the sort order of first name first in my extensive contacts list and the same in my address book on my main mac, yet my new iphone stubbornly refuses to order the contacts correctly, instead listing names by second name. as a result i am finding it almost impossible to use effectively as i know very few people by their last names.
    help!
    thanks

I go to Settings/Mail,Contacts,Calendar. Then scroll down to bottom choices of Contacts. Set both Sort order and Display to Last, First. It worked for me.

  • How can I sort photos by file name on my IPAD?

I have sorted all my photos by filename (on a windows PC). After downloading the photos to my IPAD they are sorted by shooting date. This is for sure not what I wanted. Does anybody know how I can solve this (sort my photos on filename!)? Thanks.

    From http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4221 :
If you are using Windows, or are not using iPhoto or Aperture on Mac OS X, you must change the Date Taken of photos to change their sorting on your device. Third-party photo-management software may be able to do this.

  • Organizing Photo Albums by NAME?   very odd results

I have zero problems with my 5G iPod , but I do have an odd problem:
I can't seem to get the iPod's Photo album section to match the sort order I have in the Folder they are syncing with.
For example: I made a folder with 150 "albums" (not from iPhoto)
I synced to that and everything showed up in alphabetical order like in the album.
then I added some more folders (albums) to the Photo folder I was syncing with and I labeled some of the folders with a "0" (zero) at the beginning of the name, thinking these would sort at the TOP of the list and in the Folder on the computer, they did, but when I updated the iPod, they went straight to the bottom. And so did some other newer Photo Folders I added that had regular names.
So it appears that the iPod or iTunes is sorting by WHEN the photos or albums were added to the Folder that they are syncing with and it puts the newer ones at the Bottom by default.
is there any way to change this?
I'm putting together an iPod with Videos and Photos for a client and I'm doing it on my Mac, but I want to install the Video and Photos folders on his XP computer so that he can add photos later, but if they are automatically going to drop to the bottom of the list when he adds them that going to be a big time drag.
and yes, I have to have that many "albums" and no I can't use iPhoto because this will end up being used on a Windows computer later.
    any suggestions?
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

well, I figured out a "workaround" for this.
iTunes makes a new file in the Photo Folder on your computer called "iPod Photo Cache"
It's not easy to see when you have over 150 "albums"
my error in the reply above this was NOT deleting that "iPod Photo Cache" file.
anyways, I trashed that file, then I copied all the "albums" over to a New Folder and went to iTunes an re-imported using THAT new Folder (that doesn't have an iPod photo cache anymore)
    Ta da!
Now everyone lines up like little soldiers.
    a little clunky for a work-around though.....

  • Mobile me album file names lost

I have used iPhoto to add two albums to my mobile me gallery and in the process have lost a lot of the file names. I am displaying the photos online so people can choose which ones they would like to order so really need the names/numbers. Is there a way of getting this information back without re-uploading them?

  • How do I find Album file names so I can restore?

I run Vista 64 Home Premium and back up  using Microsoft's standard backup software to an external 400 gig drive. My HP hard drive failed. I sent the laptop to HP and they replaced the hard drive. I had to re-install all my programs, update patches from December 2008, etc. Then bring in user files from the Toshiba external drive. What I have difficulty locating are some album files from Photoshop Elements 7 that I spent hours creating. IF someone can tell me how to locate the files including where they are likely located that would be wonderful. Would they be in the same folders as my edited pictures? And how do I locate the file names by extension? Thank you for whatever assistance you can provide.

  • IPhone photo albums issues

So I have an issue. All the .gif files I have on my computer that I upload to my phone via iTunes (syncing photo albums) are magically converted to .jpg files. This is incredibly annoying because I want them to be animated when I email or text them. Is there a way to fix his, or perhaps use an SSH program to manually create photo albums on the iPhone?
    Thanks in advance

Right... But I definitely dont want to do that for 90+ images.
Besides I dont want them in the normal camera roll. I want them in a separate album
