OKay so i have an iphone 4. i did not back up my phone. i updated my phone just now. when i go to my photos on my phone the thumbnail images are fine. When i click on the thumbnail the images are black. All except the videos I have taken. So I tried to sync my phone under the photos tab in itunes with the photos unchecked nothing happend. I then manually went into my phone on my computer and tried to access the photos there and the images are also corrupt there. Are my images gone forever?!

  • All my photos are Black Exclamation Marks - iphoto on ExtHD

My iphoto library is stored on an ext HD. i had a power outage now when i reopen iphoto all photos are black exclamation marks. how can i restore or fix this? i tried rebuild function but it didnt work. thanks

Since the rebuild fix didn't solve the problem give this a go:
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button,
navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost.
Note:  your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.
Note:  if the latest version, V4, of iPhoto Library Manager doesn't run download the earlier version, V3.  It's available at the same website.

because they have not been **** well downloaded to your iPhone and Setttings > Music has Show all music turned on...
Why can't I download them properly to my phone?
Are they selected to sync in iTunes?

  • Some .Photos are black in slideshow

I have made a slideshow out of some travel photos.
However, when I play the slideshow some of the photos appear black. They are in the group on the top. When I click on the photo for a preview it appears black. In the library they are fine. Only the title of the photo appears. Out of 23 photos in the show 6 appear black.
I hope there is an easy way to correct this. I am brand new to the IMAC G5.
    Thanks for any help.

I used a workaround to make them appear again, something I discovered by accident - viewing the actual image file in the Finder (column view, where the last panel is a preview) seems to remind iPhoto where the file is, and it loads fine. The problem is, "Show File" doesn't work and you have to navigate down the folder to the year and roll manually.
Anyone else noticed that this seems to be happening only to files that show thumbnails on the icons? Even though I have Finder's icon preview turned off (other files use the normal Preview icon), the affected files have thumbnails on their icons. Next time I'll try turning that feature off in Photoshop.

  • Most Iphone photos are cut off when using any app (ie CVS, Shutterfly etc). Is there any way to prevent this?

From what I've read cut off photos are due to iPhone not being 3:2 ratio, but what can I do to fix this? I take all of my photos on my iPhone and printing them out is ALWAYS a disappointment and I feel like my pictures are useless.

If you go to Walmart they have a specific app to print your photos from your iPhone.
Also with other stores they have good systems to print out photos from smart phones and iPhones now a days. And yes by official kiosk I meant any store with a photo printing machine, because if you print at home, size adjustments and all that are very complicated...unless you are like a professional perhaps...

  • In my iPhoto library some photoes are black

Some photoes at random are black, though I can find them being okey in finder ( strangely, there is changed file which is black as well so there are 2 types of one photo). Please help, don't know what to do!

I did post to the iPhoto forum and am hoping for an answer soon. I don't want to continue rebuilding my iphoto library if I can do it using originals. My library has 45,000 pictures...a huge job!

  • Photos are black or grey in Photoshop Lightroom

When you view your photos in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom on Windows, only a black or grey rectangle is displayed; you cannot see your photos.
    The linked
    Adobe Technote provides more information

This could mean any of the following:
You moved, renamed or deleted the photos (or the folders that contain them) outside of Lightroom (hint: if this is what you did, don't do that any more)
If the photos are on an external drive, the drive may be asleep or turned off
If you use Windows, it could mean that the external drive has been assigned a different drive letter
The fix is described here: Adobe Lightroom - Find moved or missing files and folders
If the problem is a different drive letter in Windows, you could simply change the drive letter back to what it was yesterday

  • Iphone photos are missing

I noticed incoming calls do not have contact photos showing.  Now all the contact photos are missing.  This is very frustrating -- and I'm not sure how to recover.  Please help!

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Photos from back up will be added back once the restore process has completed, give it some time.
Meantime, don't be deleting your old back up.

  • My iphone photos are not apperaing on my ipad

I have photos taken on my iphone that will not show up on my ipad. all of the items are on and activated. what is wrong?
    thanks,  Stratos2

    Here is what I did.
I checked the photo stream and they are on,
I checked the photo sharing, and they are on.
I checked the ICloud and they are on and have the same user and pass words.
This sharing between the iphone and ipad is new. I have a lot of photos that are on both devices, but none since last saturday. They are on the phone and not on the pad.
Also, on the phone, when I go to enlarge the image, it turns black and says HDT on it. How do I eliminate that also.
tyhanks for all of your help

  • IPhone photos are blurry after OS4 update

I managed to download and update my 3G to OS4 and everything seems to be working fine. One issue I've noticed is that all of the photos that I imported via iTunes from other sources are now blurry or very low resolution. The photos taken with the iPhone itself remain sharp. What is the solution? I'm thinking about deleting them all and replacing them with fresh copies from my computer and then performing a re-sync. Has any one else noticed this problem?

Just remove from the phone and resync. Should be fine afterwards.

  • Portrait photos are black in iphoto

    Hi all,
I've been looking on the forums and it seems like this is a fairly common problem, however I think mine might be slightly different. I have a Mac Book Air (10.8.2) and I'm using iPhoto (9.4.2). I've been downloading photos off my canon DSLR for ages and about a week ago I did a download and it was a bit of a problem. My computer kept saying it had run out of space on the hard drive and for a while I had been slowly moving stuff across to an external hardrive. Eventually there was enough room to download my photos so I did, and deleted the downloaded ones off my camera at the prompt like normal. As I was travelling I didn't have enough time to check them carefully and my computer was a bit slow, so I thought the rest would probably load later and didn't worry to much.
What I have found now is that all the other photos loaded fine and only the portraits remain affected. I tried the rotate and return to original as suggested and it worked only on one of the photos but not on the others. When I looked at the original photos in Finder they are the right size for a photo but are also black. When I tried to open with photoshop I get the message: Could not complete your request because an unknown or invalid JPEG marker type is found.
I just tried downloading my final holiday photos and they worked fine (both landscape and portrait), so it is really only one batch which is wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
    Thank you!

It sounds like while trying to import the photos with insufficient disk space those image files were damaged and not copied fully.  Now that you have sufficient space (a minimum of 10 GB is recommended) the latest imports are good.
What do you get if you export one of the problem photos out of iPhoto as Kind=Original and try to open it with Preview.  If it appears the same then there's nothing you can to do recover them.

  • My iphone photos are locked!

I can not figure out how to get my photos off my iphone except to email them to myself.  I used to be able to sync them with my old mac desktop (2009)  but that doesn't work anymore.
When I tried to use window's live photogallery - it recognizes that the apple iphone camera is connected to import but says the device is locked.  when I used windows media player - it says there are no photos.  ( there are >4000 photos on my phone.).
it is also too big to download to my dropbox account now.
my phone doesn't seem to be locked in any other way - and i can't find setting on the phone to unlock it.
I think it is a Iphone 4 -- or 3 -- I got the phone in 2011.  I have not updated the operating system.
I plan to get a new phone soon - but I don't want to loose my pictures!
    Advice?
    thanks so much.

Another option to try would be the sections titled "Copy the photos to your computer using Windows Explorer" in Windows 8, 7, or XP sections of iOS: Import personal photos and videos from iOS devices to your computer
There are some other ideas in iOS: Unable to import photos to computer

  • Restored my iPhone, Photos are gone. Where do they reside?

    Hi,
I have time machine running and wonder in what folder my photos from the camera roll are located. The roll is gone after I restored my 3G iPhone for iOS4.
    Thx

If you are backing up your Mac drive, probably. But...
The backup I was referrring to is the one itunes makes each time you sync your iphone.
When you lose your camera roll and have not performed an import to your mac (as if from a digital camera), the backup is the only place the photos reside. To harvest them, you must do a restore from the old backup (itunes-created backup), import the photos and then restore the iphone.
Your camera roll must be imported to your computer, just like a digital camera would be imported to your computer.
