IPhone Photos disappeared

I shoot A LOT with my iPhone.
Yesterday my iPhone died, after re-charging it i turned it back on. It said "re-building photo library", once it was done. 2 months worth of pictures were gone, including a family vacation album.
really really frustrated and don't know what to do. I tried sync my phone with iTunes, nothing. all the same.
My wallpaper is a recent picture that i took, it still shows up.
any ideas, how to access the files inside my phone? i imagine those files are still there somewhere.
any help is greatly appreciated.
thank you

I lost all of my camera roll when I updated to iOS4.0. Fortunately, there is a way to recover them... It took two days to figure it out, but it was a total lifesaver.
1. The iPhone backup files are located in Users/[Name]/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup. So long as you backed up fairly recently, you are OK! Unfortunately they are in encrypted mySQL format
2. I had backed up since the update, making things harder, but was able to recover my old backup files from Time Machine
3. A utility for reading the backup files can be found at: http://supercrazyawesome.com/ (I don't make any promises about this application, it's not mine. But given what's at stake, I thought it worth the risk...)
4. Recover the iOS Files directory
5. Your photos are in the Media/DCIM folder
Thankfully, I got back all of my last 2 months photos including my son's birthday photos!
I hope this helps.

  • Keyword tags for imported iPhone photos disappeared from LR5.7 catalog under OS 10.10.1Yosemite.

I am using LR 5.7 on a Mac OS 10.10.1 with a Time Machine backup - the vast majority of my photos were taken on an iPhone 5 in the year 2014 and are in a folder on my computer internal hard drive.
The structure is my Folders > Macintosh HD which has a folder inside called
Pictures Users/myname with 1719 photos in it -
when I click on this folder the following folders open up:
    > folder dated 1904(?) with 2 items
    > folder dated 2012 with 1 item
    > folder dated 2013 with 1 item
    > folder dated 2014 with 1352 items...
    .... and so on until
    >Exported Original Photos 365 (which are exports of photos from iPhoto that I wanted to catalog and develop in LR)
The Maths are correct. But as for the tags:
when I open the folder Pictures Users/myname containing 1719 photos and view them as thumbnails I see all the keywording applied to my collection of photos
BUT when I open the folder Pictures - Users/myname and then folder 2014, I see a list:
    folder 2014 with 199 items
    folder 2014-01-20 with 1 item
    folder 2014-01-21 with 5 items
    etc
    All well and good.
BUT if I open these dated folders with small numbers of images in them (never more than 50 per day), view the images in a grid and click on a photo, there are no keyboard tags to be seen in the information panel. They only time I see any keyword tags that I have entered is when I open Macintosh HD > Pictures - Users/myname which contains my entire library of photos taken in 2014 and those added to the catalog from iPhoto.
Should I see tags for the photos in the individually dated folders e.g. Macintosh HD > Pictures - Users/myname > 2014 > 2014-01-20 and so on day by day ?
I have been tagging my photos with keywords after my weekly import. And have been doing this after viewing each photo from the grid view of photos displayed by clicking on  Macintosh HD >Pictures - Users/myname.
    Have I made an error?
I want to tag my collection of photos by the correct method before it grows in size.
    Many thanks
    David (Brighton, UK)

    Hi,
I moused down on the "+" sign where it says Folders and "show photos in subfolders" was shown as already being "on".
I followed your suggestion:  I tried to keyword the photo in Macintosh HD/Pictures - Users/myname/folder 2014-01-20 with 1 item however it did not permit me to type in a keyword in the keyboarding section panel on the left hand side, so I was unable to check if it stuck.
I don't know whether this is important or not, but the list of folders, subfolders etc have slightly different arrow heads:
If I drop down the Macintosh HD location there is a SOLID, grey downward pointing arrow to the left hand side of the folder Pictures - Users/myname/..
However, if you drop down folders from Macintosh HD > Pictures - Users/myname/.. to show inner folders:
Macintosh HD> Pictures - Users/myname/... > folders dated 2014-01-20 etc., then there is a horizontal triangle that is made up of grey dots rather than a solid triangle for every dated folder - is this as expected?

  • Helpppppppppp!! Iphone Photos disappeared (dumb question to follow)

Hi Guys, I used my Iphone 4 to record a short videoof my little girl.  When I tried to play it back the phone froze and then went back to the home screen.
Now everytime I try and and open the camera or photo icons all I get is a white screen saying updating library and it flashes off after 2/3 seconds.
I am most upset as my first nephew was born a week ago and I took the pictures with my Iphone and haven't had a chance to back them up.
Please, please can anyone help? is there any way of restoring them or even just pulling them off in some way to a pc?

Hey! I have tried everything now and nothing seems to work. Been to the Apple store today, they were willing to restore the phone back to original settings - meaning everything would be wiped off. I downloaded some software which showed all my pics but was scared to use it. Itunes showing 9.2Gb but nothing on pc. Any other suggestions would be highly appreciated. Thanks guys

  • My iphone photos disappeared after a crash

what can i do to get them back?

the funny thing is i found loads of people with this problem, and they where on vacations and lost they're vacations photos. without the mac, or wireless to backup, what is your solution? cause that's EXACTLY what happened to me. the phone should be good enough for you to not have to rely on every night, before going to bed, backing up. cause sometimes you just can't. so what's you're geek excuse now? is it normal for you to use your mac, it crashes, and then you loose all of those files from that day? are you seriously telling me that that's normal? that you wouldn't be curious/mad about it?. yeah right.

  • In my itunes tab is images / photo disappeared. . can not get it back, so now I can not get pictures on my iphone??? I do not want to use the photo stream. there are others who have experienced this tab disappears

    Make the iTunes window wider.
It is on the far right.

  • HT1688 Updated to ios 6 and My iphone photos/videos are disappearing.

Updated to ios 6 and My iphone photos/videos are disappearing. Also when i take a photo/video it doesnt show in my camera roll. it show photos from days ago. Does anyone know how to solve this ?

All pics taken with the iphone should be imported to your computer regularly as you would with any digital camera, most especially before any update/restore/etc.
If you have failed to do this then they are very likely gone.
You can try restoring from backup.

  • Iphoto 8.1.2 crashed while deleting  photos (7,000) from my iphone and the photos disappeared from iphone and iphoto

First i imported my photos to iphoto 8.1.2 when it finished, asked me if i want to "delete them from the camara"  i clicked yes and crashed while deleting  photos (7,000) from my iphone and the photos disappeared from iphone and iphoto

No early version of iPhoto can open a Library from a later version.
You can try revert the Library with iPhoto Library Manager

  • Iphone photo icon disappeared

iphone photo icon disappeared. How to restore?

It's a pre-installed app and therefore cannot be deleted so you may have inadvertently moved it onto a screen or into a folder.  Check all screens and folders and do a search in Spotlight, it will tell you if the app it still on your iPhone but unfortunately not where it is. If you find it on one or your screens or in a folder, press the icon until it wiggles and then drag it back to where you want it.  Alternatively you can reset your home screen in Settings>General>Reset>Reset Home Screen Layout.

  • HT4623 i updated my iphone and all the photos disappeared

All my daughters photos disappeared after she updated her phone. She thought she backed up but is not sure and now nothing is on the phone or laptop.

As the manual explains, you should be importing all pics taken with iphone regularly as you would with any digital camera, most especially before any update/restore/etc.
If she failed to do this, then the pics are likely gone.
She can try restoring from backup.

  • HT1766 iPhone photos lost during syncing; are they still available

Today I decided to sync my iPhone 5 and download the new version of the operation system because of warnings  in the news about security breaches with the older versions. When I plugged the device in and selected it, I was not presented with the option of syncing but was guided to a screen with two choices:  1) register a new device or 2) restore the device to the settings of the last backup (2/27/13).  I chose restore since the device was already recognized by iTunes when I plugged it in.  There was no dialogue warning me that restoring means that you will be deleting any new data stored on the phone since the last backup. This is a crucial piece of information worthy of a red flag and warning similar to those you get if you attempt to delete a photo or contact.  I proceeded through the restore process; eventually, there appeared an error message saying that the restore had failed. I unplugged the iPhone then plugged it in again.  This time, I was guided to the screen for syncing and proceeded to sync apps, calendar, photos (there is no music on the device).  When I finished, I discovered that many, many of my most precious photos and the albums I had created  to arrange themon the iPhone were missing, although many of them remain.  Most of the photos on the iPhone at this time are those that were already stored on the computer in Picasa while many of the iPhone photos I was attempted to save by syncing have disappeared.  Is there any chance of recovering these photos, either on the computer or on the iPhone?  My Photo Stream option was on for the photos, but most of them were apparently  not captured and are missing from Photo Stream on the computer and on the iPhone.

I am not computer savy....I was trying to add some contacts and it would not let me. My grandaughter told me I had to sync phone.  I did something stupid I told it to restore to last back up.  I got all old contact information.  I messed with it until I got my current contacts back.  Everything is back to normal except my photos are gone.

  • IPhoto shut down / photos disappeared

After transferring 193 photos, while editing iPhoto shut down unexpectely deleting photos.  Created Event disappeared! The camera was already erased as All photos were imported to the computer.  Any chance of finding photos anywhere or the hard drive?  I am Devasted! Does this issue occur often?

Probably the imported photos are still inside the iPhoto library, in the "Masters" folder.
Try to rebuild the iPhoto Library - how to is described in Old Toad's post here:
See: iPhoto unexpectedly shut down and my photos disappeared!
Where have you been importing from? Your camera? A card reader? An iPhone?
This problem has occasionally been reported after the iPhoto 9.4.3 update. It seems to happen, when the card in a camera has become corrupted and needs reformatting in the camera.
Once you have retrieved your photos - hopefully - reformat the card or use a differentcard.
I nevert use the option to delete the photos in the camera, at the same time that I am importing. I wait till the photos have been imported and checked and backed up, before I delete them from the card. Using the camera to delete photos is better for the filesystem on the card than letting the computer do it.

  • Photo Stream Photos Disappearing

Photo Stream photos disappear when deleted from a camera roll. Is this a bug, a feature or something wrong with my system? This is happening across all my devices. Thanks for any input.

I am not an expert but this does not make much sense to me: You might want to clean up one of your device's camera roll without erasing the corresponding photos from your Photo Stream.
That is unfortunately, how it is on iOS 8. When you delete the photo from the Camera Roll on the device that took the photo, it will be removed from My Photo Stream as well.  I am seeing the same on my iPhone 5s.

  • Photos disappear after every reboot

    Hello everyone, I need help!
Everytime I reboot my phone, My photos disappear and have to "restore". When i click on the Photos icon, They slowlyyyyyy reappear. Sometimes it even takes over an hour. There is a little spinning wheel that moves and next to it says "Restoring...". This happens every single time and its driving me insane. I have over 3,000 picutres on my phone, how do i get this to stop?
I now have an iPhone 5C on version 7.0.6, but i was having the same issue on my iPhone 5 on version 7.0.4.

Uninstalled ZoneAlarm Pro. No change. Uninstall BitDefender. Works perfectly.

  • IPHONE photos erased when you turn off the phone

I have a new IPHONE 3G phone .I can take pictures with the phone which are fine until I turn off the phone. When I turn it on again the photos taken with the IPHONE have disappeared.

The red arrow on the screen when you hold the top button down for a 3-5 seconds is the Power Off slider, which you move across the screen with your finger. Just pushing the top button momentarily puts the phone to sleep. Either way, the photo should be saved. If the photo is not saved to Photos>Camera Roll (and you are sure you are looking at Camera Roll and not another Photo Album), then you must have a corruption somewhere. If the Restore did not work, the only other option besides taking the phone in to Apple is to do another Restore and don't put anything back in until you try the Camera function, just to rule out the possibility that you are reloading a corruption. I've seen no other posts here about this, but it might be worthwhile to do a search and see.
