Iphone photos in "Moments - Collections"

My Iphone is set to sync with my iphots library and there are around 1600 pics on my macbook and they are also showing in my iphone.
However, when i connect my iphone to my macbook, it shows there are 2800 pics (18gb).
When I look at the albums, they show the same amount as on my macbook, but on my phone under photos, there are hundreds of pics that are not on my macbook and in most cases they are duplicates.
What can i do to remove everything so that only pictures that I want synced are on my phone, and so that i can free up the space.
Any infomration is greatly appreciated...

It seems you would like to transfer photos from your previous device to your iPhone 5S. I have linked to an article which may help you. You can transfer those photos to a Mac or PC, then sync them to your new device:
Import photos and videos from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your Mac or Windows PC - Apple Support
After you import your photos from your iOS device or Saved Photos, you can use iTunes to sync them back to your device.

In addition, it seems like Photos distinguish between the way pictures is managed in 'Albums' vs. 'Shared albums'. It seems like, removing a picture in Moments/Collections will remove the picture in the corresponding Albums (which I think is great) but not removing the picture in 'Shared albums'. In other words, a duplicate picture seems to be created when adding a picture to a shared album (instead of a reference picture like for 'Albums'). Am I correct? This is very confusing.
In that case, I assume I need to remove my original picture each time I add a picture to a 'Shared album' in order to avoid duplicates and reach some kind of "master" management of my pictures?

Photo missing in moments/collection/years

I am using 5S. Something strange happened after upgarding to iOS 7.1
Some photos stored in my "Camera Roll" did not appear in moments/collection/years
When I use a third party software to access album, it can read the "date" of the photos..
so i believe there should be a problem when the photo app recognising the date of those missing photos...
Does anyone know how to fix it?

It happend to me when I updated to 7.1.1 on iPhone 5....
I have around 850 total in camera roll starting from 2008 where I can see them all, but only around 40 shows up in moments/collections/years starting from 12 April 2014. It wasn't like this before, so any advice would be appreciated.

- If the photos were taken by or saved to the iPod just use the computer's camera/image capture software to get them from the iPod.
- If the photos were synced to the iPod you need a third-party program such as PhoneView of TouchCopy.

Photos not deleting in moments/collections!

hello, i recently discovered some images that i deleted from stream and camera roll a while back still appear in moments/collections, the grey trash can in the top corner (ipad) is faint and not available to me? any advice please!!!?

Iphone photos app breaks when you have 2^14 photos

I have six years of photos on my iPhone (which has changed over the years but is now an iPhone 5 with 64GB and running iOS 8.0.2)
Needless to say I use the Photos app quite a bit and every day.
I noticed a few days ago that the Photos app was not responsive.
I reset the phone (turned it off and then on) - no change
i factory reset the phone and restored from backup -- no change
Then I noticed the number of photos (counted via Image Capture) 16,431 (remarkably close to and just above 2^14).
I removed 290 photos from the phone (arbitrary number that put the total number of photos below 2^14).
Then I reset the phone (turned it off then on) and the photos app is back to working as fast as it ever did.
so, i suspect that the photos app has a problem dealing with more than 16,383 (or 2^14 - 1) photos in the Photos album
Can anyone else confirm this trouble or know when a fix will be made?

It's not a limit of the number of files in a folder. A look at the iPhone with IFunBox shows that the photos are organized into folders of 1000 photos each.
The photos app seems to be designed to handle many many photos -- given that photos are organized by year and the folder organization I can see.
I'd like to use the photos app in the most natural way possible -- That is: take pictures and look at pictures that are well organized.
Alternatively, I'd like to have other albums organized like the many photo album (years, collections, moments).
Alternative to that I'd like to use a different app to view my photos -- especially if it organizes photos like the main
photo app (or even a better way if that exists) and can handle more than 2^14 photos.
Does anyone know of a photo app in the app store that meets those requirements?

How to time tag GPS in Aperture - using iPhone photos GPS

I went to photo trip, now I need to geotag 1000 photos to multiple locations. Everytime I photographed I used Iphone to snap a gps coordinate.
In Aperture, I clicked,
Import gps data from Iphone.
It succesfully recognized the right time and locations and they are displayed on the map.
How do I tag the photos to time stamp automatically?

I use an application on the iPhone/iPad that records the track and download the track. In my case, Navionics HD will record the position every few seconds and collects them in a track.
In Aperture I load this track from the drop-down menu "GPS > Import GPS track".
Now I can move the cursor along the track and see the times along the track.
When I drag a photo to the track, it will show the offset between the capture time of the photo and the time of that position along the track. SO I can place it precisely by looking for the position with the least possible difference.
When you drag multiple photos to the track, the time of the first selected photo should match the time you'll see on the track when you drop the pin.
The second option "Import GPS from iPhone photos" is supposed to create a track like above, but I never got that to work.

LR mobile Sync of iPhone photos to LR desktop? Not sure if it is working....

I created a collection on my iPhone by importing all 3000 or so iPhone pictures. It is slooooooowly syncing to my desktop lightroom (5.5). Above the signature block in LR desktop there is a line that says "Syncing 72 photos." In the Collections section, there is a collection called "From Lr Mobile" that with a sub collection that shows 417 photos. That number is rising more slowly than the number above the signature block is rising. Neither number is close to the 3000 in the collection that was created by importing pictures on my iPhone.
I have been syncing for days. Is there a way to speed things up? Am I asking too much of LR mobile? I was thinking this maybe a useful way to get my iPhone photos archived directly into my desktop LR; not clear if that workflow will work.

Firefox 4 and later version have Sync built-in, no add-on is necessary. The "icon" in the Statusbar that was used by the extension is gone, but there is a Sync toolbar button sitting in the Customize Palette which you can place on a toolbar where you want it. Hover the cursor over the button to see the status of the Sync connection.<br />

Replying to my own post - heh. I downloaded iExplorer (http://www.macroplant.com/iexplorer/) which allowed me access to the files on the phone and there was the phantom movie in the DCIM folder. Deleted it, and all is well - although I still have 0.65gb of Other in iTunes.....

Add To iPhoto in Mail fails for iPhone photos sent in multiple emails

Someone takes six photos with an iPhone and emails them to you.
You get 6 emails. Each one has a photo.jpg image attached.
You click the SAVE pop-down menu in the Mail message and choose Save To iPhoto. The photo is imported into iPhoto. You delete that email and do the same thing with the second email with the second photo...
BUT, somewhere the Mail-iPhoto smartness turns dumb, as the rest of the photos will not show up in iPhoto. (This may have something to do with the fact that the iPhone sends each photo with the attachment name of photo.jpg and somehow Mail or iPhoto think that photo has already been added to iPhoto).
I was having this problem with photos emailed to me by iPhone users and tested it myself.
Sure enough, after the first photo.jpg attachment is imported all subsequent Add To iPhoto operations of iPhone sent images fail... even if the photos have been sent from separate iPhones from separate email addresses.
All the attachments are kept by Mail in uniquely numbered folders in the attachments folder of my receiving email account in Library/Mail but since each attachments is named photo.jpg that seems to throw off iPhoto OR Mail (because even the quick progress update of "Adding photo to iPhoto" does not show up on these attempts).
I checked if quitting and restarting Mail fixed allowed the second photo to be added to iPhoto but it did not. Quitting iPhoto after EACH import/Add To iPhoto operation allowed each photo to be added into iPhoto.
This may have to do with the iPhoto bugs handling large libraries (I have 19000 images in it) like the spinning wheel of Names window after imports, etc.
Just sharing if others have the same experience sending 3 iPhone photos by email to themselves and seeing if all can be added to iPhoto from Mail. Thanks.

Report to apple. iPhoto menu ==> provide iPhoto feedback
You can work around BR saving to the desktop and importing or opening in quick view, expanding to full screen and saving to iPhoto

How do I add photos from another collection to my saved Book?

Hi,
In my lightroom library I have created a collection set called "Wedding". As I have 1000 photos from my wedding, within this Collection Set I have created 10 or more Collections to organise these photos (Ceremony, Reception, First Dance, etc.).
I have created a new 'Book' which as expected, has created a new Collection within my 'Wedding' collection set.
When I first create the book (before saving it) it seems like I can click on a page, then browse my Collections and add the photo that I desire to the page.
After I have saved the book, I can't so this. I want to work on my book later, and use my existing organisation of photos, and add photos to my books from these collections.
I know I am missing something basic (I am new to lightroom). I don't understand why I can't add a photo to my book after I have saved it.
Each time I click on one of my other collections, a new unsaved book appears in the main project window.
I have worked out that if I copy all my wedding photos into the new "Book" collection, then my photos are available for use - but this defeats the purpose of organising my photos into separate collections, and it doesn't seem like you can create a sub-collection within the Book project.
I also can't seem to find any documentation to explain this properly.
Any help would be apreciated - or if I coud be pointed to a good resource.

I saw these discussions previously, but not of them seem to answer my question (nor confirm that what I am trying to do cannot be done).
If I want to create a "Wedding Album" book, do I have to firstly use the Library module to drag ALL the photos I may want to use into my "Wedding Album" collection (saved book) ?
This seems annoying as I have already categorisied my 1000+ wedding photos into separate Collections using the Library (so that I can find the one I want easier).
It seems as though the Book module would function much better if you could create a book, choose a page that you want to add a photo to, then browse through your pre-configured collection sets & collections, and add photos to the book from the navigation panel on the left when you have the "Book" module open. (Rather than having to copy the photo first into the "Book" 's Collection, then adding it to the page that you want)

What you can do is to move (or copy) a photo form one collection to another. This can be triggered via the top right app menu item from grid view. Same menu is available when you open up an image for editing. Hope that helps. -Guido
