IPhone pictures always in landscape under Windows

I just noticed, and this was not present few days back, that when I e-mail my photos taken with iPhone 4S, they appear in the landscape orientation even if the picture is taken in the portrait mode. When the picture is taken in the landscape orientation, it will be shown in the landscape mode.
So regardless the orientation of the picture on my iOS device, it will be presented in the landscape. And this is not my problem. At my workplace I have tested this on numerous windows machines and they all act the same, but I know for sure that it did not do that few days back.
Under Mac OS X everything is okay and presented correctly.
Any ides?

I did send some picutres through Adobe Send. the Receiver did see all the picture and can download each of it.
But the view of most picture is wrong, as they are shown in landscape and for this reason stretched..it's not looking nice!!
if you download the picture, it's original and good looking.
why it's not possible in the "view-mode" to show all pictures in the correct way without stretching them?

TS1567 iPhone not appearing as disk in Windows Explorer when connected by USB cable

I've had my Samsung Ultrabook with Windows 8 (NOT Metro) for months, and I've never had a problem when connecting my iPhone to it via the Apple USB cable. When thus connected, the iPhone has always appeared correctly in Windows Explorer as an available disk, and I'm able to transfer pictures from the iPhone to another disk on my Ultrabook.
This morning, for some mysterious reason (no new apps on the phone and no new applicationson the Ultrabook; no 'accidental drops'; no new drivers or updates), even when I connect the iPhone to my Ultrabook via its Apple USB cable, it does NOT appear in the Windows Explorer window. When the USB cable is first connection, the audible tone indicating the connection is heard, and it DOES appear in iTunes. It simply does not appear in Windows Explorer.
I have already (a) stopped and restarted the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver, (b) checked for any available driver updates, (c) started, stopped, and restarted iTunes (NOTE: The iPhone DOES appear in iTunes when it is connected via the USB cable; it simply doesn't appear in Windows Explorer as an available disk); (d) stopped, then started the Service.
What should I try next?

I'm no sure this is still the case but it used to be (an older version of iOS and Windows 7) that the iPhone would not appear in Windows Explorer if there were no pictures in the Camera Roll (I think the logic being that the only thing you can do with the iPhone/Windows Explorer combination is import photos from the Camera Roll). If your Camera Roll is empty, try taking one picture and see if it then appears. I suspect this isn't your problem since the probable reason you are even trying to connect the two is to import photos -- but just in case.

Hi Gang: Quick question. I have been taking pictures on my iphone 4, using the regular portrait mode. Now when I send the pics to my regular e-mail address and Facebook they are in landscape mode, or on their side. It is ironic that when I send the same photos to my mobile me account, they are perfect. So, I never had any problems with my Iphone 3G, but now with the Iphone 4, there is a problem. It is interesting to note that when I hold the phone on the side or in landscape mode (irrespective if I have the portrait locked or unlocked) the picture will come out okay and when I send it, it is okay to both accounts. Just wondered if anyone out there is having a problem with the portrait and landscape picture mode.

There is a long thread on this somewhere in the discussion groups. After I post this I'll look for it.
Basically, IOS3.1.3 and iOS4 no longer rotate the picture before saving it. The system now sets the rotation in the EXIF data. Many programs, including Facebook, have not updated their software to read the EXIF orientation data and rotate the image correctly.
Currently the only recourse is to rotate the images yourself using Photoshop or a similar program or only take pictures in the landscape mode with the Home button to the right.
Most (not all) Apple products display the image correctly. Few Windows programs do (or did, I haven't used windows for photography stuff for a couple of years).

It seems I have solved my own problem . . . well hopefully !! ;-)
I was using a 'non' Apple cable. When I swithced to using the stock cable that came with my iPhone, iTunes can now see that I have a 'Device' and identifies it correctly as my iPhone.
Hopefully this may help others . . . ?

There is no 'earlier' version that supports XP. iCloud launched with Vista/7 support only.

I download my pictures by:
!) Connecting my iphone to he computer.
2) It will open a window or I will go to my computer and select iphone device.
3) Open up Iphone folders and download.
When I do that, I see a windows icon, with what looks to be a hard drive. And when I click on it, it leads me back to my desktop. Right now, I only have one. I know by tomorrow I will have more. It just keeps spreading.

You got the new iphone????? I have same problem. I transferred audiobooks to device to find no audiobooks on device (despite it being in iTunes as if it was). Have you found a solution????? I even tried to change import settings on format transfer but hasn't worked.

Image.getScaledInstance() does not always work under Windows Vista

I've run into some intermittent image scaling problems under Windows Vista (minus Aero effects) that I never experienced with the same program, same image(s), running same Java version under XP. The images I'm using are all JPEGs, and the problem appears to affect approx 1 out of 3 grayscale images (no color ones so far) w/o respect to size (ie: small ones can be problems while larger ones will work). Java -version shows 1.6.0_02-b06. I was wondering if anyone else out there has seen this, or can point out what I may be doing wrong. Sample code to duplicate follows.

That does indeed appear to be a bug. I looks like it's having problems with the alpha value in the color model, so a possible workaround would be to change the color model the image uses before scaling. This may entail creating a new BufferedImage and drawing the old image into it.

Do IMAQ Cast Image or IMAQ Linear averages give different results when using different computers that are running under Windows XP ?

I'm currently developping an image processing algorithm using Labview 7.1 and the associated IMAQ Vision tools. After several tests, I found a weird result. Indeed, I put the labview algorithm - including the IMAQ VI on the library to get sure that I use all the time the same VI - on my memory stick and used it on two different computers. I tested the same picture (still in my memory stick) and had two very different results.
After several hours trying to understand why, I found that there were a difference between the results given by both computers at the very begining of the algorithm. Indeed, I used a JPEG file.
To open it, I first create an Image with IMAQ Create (U8). Then, I open it.
Then in my first sub-VI, I use IMAQ Cast Image to be sure that the picture is a U8 grayscale picture.
Right after that, I use the IMAQ Linear Averages. The results of this VI are different on the two computers.
I tried several time on the same picture : one computer always give me the same result but the two computers give me a different result. So there is no random variable on the results.
So my question is : Do IMAQ Cast Image or IMAQ Linear averages give different results when using different computers that are running under Windows XP ?
My bet is on IMAQ Cast Image but I'm not quite sure and I do not undestand why. The labview and IMAQ are the same on both computers.
The difference between the two computer are above :
Computer 1 :
Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.20GHz with a RAM of 1Go. The processor is an Intel(R).
The OS is windows XP Pro 2002
Computer 2 :
Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.80GHz with a RAM of 512Mo. The processor is an Intel(R).
The OS is windows XP Pro 2002.
If anybody can help me on this problem, it would be really helpful.

Call Display Picture Always Full Screen (I don't want that)

There are a few discussions about this, but they all seem to be over 4 years old, and I still have the problem. (Please read the whole explanation, as I've tried several fixes already)
I am extremelly picky with my computer and phone "stuff". Ever since I've owned my iPhone I've made it a point to add a picture to every contact I have.
Early in my iPhone ownership I realized that if you add a picture directly from your iPhone (wether is taking it directly from the iPhone cam while adding the contact or choosing from the library) such picture shows FULL screen when I call that person or when that person calls me. If I simply open Address Book in my Mac and "drag" a picture (say for instance from Facebook) into the picture section of that contact and then synch, then when I make or receive a call from that person it shows small and I still see my wallpaper on the background.
Well THAT's what I want (just like in the Appple commercials), I DON'T want the full screen picture.
Now here's THE PROBLEM;
For some reason NOW, I STILL add pictures the SAME WAY (I go into Facebook, and drag the picture into Address Book) but when I make or receive a call from that person the display picture ALWAYS shows full screen!! It's annoying the heck out of me!!
The ONLY thing different is that now my contact are synched thru iCloud as opposed to synching using a USB cable in iTunes, HOWEVER, SOME contacts show how they are supposed to show (even adding them thru iCloud), but MOST others don't! I feel I should add that ALL contacts I had BEFORE I strated synching with iCloud still show fine, the ones that have a problem are MOST (but not all) of the ones I added AFTER I started synching thru iCloud. And the fact that a few worked fine leads me to believe there's got to be a way of making them all show small.
Anyone has any idea of how to keep them ALL the same?

OK, that's interesting. Now, how do I get all of my contact photos into iPhoto? And do I have to do this one contact at a time, or is there a setting where I can "import all". Furthermore, once all photos are in iPhoto and I select "Import Face from iPhoto" can I do such actions for all contacts at once or do I have to do them one at a time?

How can i use 3d pdf on my mac? Under windows i can open my pdf with 3d animation but under mac it is not possible. İ also check the web site of adobe, but there are no information about it. Please help.

If there is no info on Adobe about it, this is probably a case where there is a special 3D plugin that Adobe has access to on your PC. You need to find out what software generated the 3D. Then you can find out if there is an equivalent Mac compatible plugin. That said, you can always run Windows on an iMac Intel if push comes to shove:

Better Display Driver under Windows 8 than Windows 7 for MacBook Pro Retina?

Anyone happen to know if the display support for a MacBook Pro Retina is better under Windows 8 than it is under Windows 7?
Ideally, I would like to be able to run 2880x1800 at True Color as well as have the HDMI out fuction as a second display (maching the behaviour while booted under Max OS X 10.8).
Under Windows 7, the highest resolution that supports True Color is 1600x1200. This would be okay if that setting did not distort the picture (everything is slightly squeezed). At 2880x1800, the highest color depth is High Color (16-bit) which is, well, not something one can actually use if doing graphics work. On my 27" iMac, 2680x1600 supports True Color as expected.
Also under Windows 7, the display connected via HDMI is not recognized.
I've contected both Apple care support and Microsoft support about this, but Apple referred me to Microsoft and Microsoft referrred me back to Apple.

Yes, there is a better display driver for the MacBook Pro Retina while running Windows 7 Pro.
And, the answer is so obvious, that I feel a little silly having started this thread in the first place!
The Windows 7 Professional NVIDIA drivers for the NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M card need to be installed manually by downloading them from NVIDIA directly.
If you need to do this on your MBPr Boot Camp volume, use this link:

What tipped me off to this is that the CUDA drivers need to be downloaded manually on the Mac OS X side to take full advantage of raytracing in Adobe After Effects CS6 and CC. As soon as I started to run that installer it dawned on me, "Hey, you probably need to install the drivers on the Boot Camp side as well." And sure enough after doing so, I am able select all of the expected resolutions as well as run 2880 x 1800 at Millions of Colors (32-bit).
I guess I'm showing my nearly three decades worth of being a Mac user where I'm accustomed to having about everything needed included with the OS.
