Iphone playlists play random as if shuffle was selected

it's weird, but the playlists never seem to play in the right order. it shuffles the tracks for some reason, without having selected shuffle. has anyone else had this problem? it's not that big of a deal, except when i make custom playlists and i want the music to play in the order i have arranged the playlist to play back.
thanks.

My phone did this too, so I went over the Get Info for the songs on itunes and it seems I had differences between the Artist and the Album Artist info, my problem being some had an Album Artist name and some didn't. I think the phone catagorizes the tracks differently because of this. I went through and took out the Album Artist info for all the albums that didn't require it and it seems to work now.

  • IPhone playlists in random locations, computer playlists organized

So I just setup my new iPhone with iTunes Match, and my playlists are all over the place.
For example in iTunes on my Mac I have:
    Bobby's Music
         4 Star Songs
         5 Star Songs
         All Music
    However my iPhone it shows:
    4 Star Songs
    All music
    Bobby's Music
         5 Star Songs
This is an oversimplification, but on my laptop All my playlists are in the "Bobby's Music" folder, however my iPhone shows them all over the place...
Any idea on how to fix this?

Do you have shuffle on? With a track playing, tap the album art (in portrait orientation) to bring up the scrubber bar. At the right side of that is a shuffle icon - if it's blue, you've got the global shuffle on; tap it to turn it off (white).

  • Is there a way to create a playlist that will not play the songs when shuffle is selected?

I created a playlist of children's songs to play in my kindergarten classroom.  I placed these songs in a specific playlist so I could easilly access them when needed.  Problem is, when I'm working out, I don't want these songs to pop up in my "shuffle" mix.  How do I designate this playlist to only contribute songs when selected?

You can also set the "Skip when shuffling" property of the children's songs to Yes. Select the songs, Get. Info., look on the Options tab.

  • My iphone 4S will randomly shuffle my playlists regardless of what order I put them in.  It also just removes songs at random.  What is going on???

My  new iphone  4S is not keeping playlists in th order I sync them and will randomly shuffle them no matter how many times i rearrange them.  I don't think I have the shuffle setting on, but can't figure out why it shuffles, removes, and adds songs at will.  I am a Zumba instructor and need my playlists in a specific order.
    Thanks,
    k

I'm having a similar problem with my iPhone 4s.  Just loaded all of my play lists onto it and it shuffles the order on some playlists but not others.  It is not a matter of shuffle being selected anywhere.  In fact when I connect my iPhone to my Mac and look my play lists in iTunes, they appear in the correct order.  When I view my playlists on my iPhone, some appear in a random order.  The suggestions to turn shuffle off have not helped since nowhere does shuffle appear to be on.  And I have the "shake to shuffle" turned off as well.  I listen to a lot of continuously mixed music so these randomizations of my playlists are very problematic.  I didn't have this problem at all with my iPod Touch. Should I just try deleting the troublesome playlists and reinstalling them?

  • How can I make a playlist play on my iPod in random order?

I have made a playlist on my computer in iTunes. The songs are now in alphabetical order by song title, and when they play on my iPod they play in that same alphabetical order.
Is there a way that I can make the songs in the playlist play in some other order? Preferably, just a random order?
Or, is there a way that I can arrange them in iTunes that is not in alphabetical order and have them stay in that non-alphabetical order?
    Thanks!

Just go to Settings, Shuffle, then turn it to Songs. The songs will stay in the same order in the playlist, but they'll switch it up.

  • My iPhone is (seemingly randomly) deleting songs from my playlists. How do I get it to stop?

I don't know why it's happening, but it's really annoying. My first one was a 3GS, and I had made a playlist for all the songs in one CD, because i'd gotten a single and then the rest of the CD once it actually came out, and even though iTunes counted the single in completing the album they wouldn't play together without the other albums by the artist. It would work fine while i was listening to it, and then when i would leave Music for a while, usually at most a day, some of the songs would be missing! They weren't in much of an order, and both times i paid much attention to whether they were the same, a couple of songs had vanished one time and not the other, so it wasn't the same songs leaving the playlist every time. Now I'm on a 4S, and it's doing the same thing with a different playlist, which has my Purchased songs and one other one.. Both times it's done it there have only been 3 songs left, the first one the same and i think the second one, and the third one different. Normally there are 8 songs in the playlist. The first time, it was only one day after i made the playlist, and the second time it was a few days after i repaired the playlist. Both playlists mentioned were made on my iPhone, not in iTunes.
My phone is not 100% up to date, there was a new update since November, and I don't know if there's a fix there, but I don't want to download the update in case I have to put my songs back on my phone, because some of my favorites have stopped working properly in iTunes. If anyone knows a) whether the update(s) have a fix for this, or b) whether songs I've bought since the Cloud became a thing will be damaged on my iPhone if they're damaged in iTunes, I would appreciate it.

    Turn off repeat.
This is covered in the manual.
iPhone User Guide (For iOS 4.2 and 4.3 Software)
Play the song, tap the screen, tap the repeat icon until it is white= off.

  • Playing tracks within a playlist in random order

I have many tracks in my iTunes, but very little of the music is entire albums, most of it is odd tracks from albums, downloaded tracks, and bits of radio recordings over the years. There are also a number of complete talking books on there.
This is all organised in 20+ playlists and works well, but what I would like is it to be able to play the tracks within one or more playlists in random sequence, so I don’t always get the tracks in the same order.
I have looked up “shuffle” but despite reading the help files several times, I can make little sense of it, and there is a thread here http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=3922734&#3922734 that starts to answer it, but it suggests that (if I have read it correctly) that the shuffling is turned on in the iPod rather than in iTunes. I have a nano and the “Shuffle” option only has three options, Songs Albums, and Off. No mention of playlists.
Is what I am trying to do possible? If so can I get some details on how please?
    Any help very gratefully accepted.

Thanks Meg - that does it. Fantastic. Marvelous.
So simple when someone has told you how to do it! I don't think I would call it intuitive though
    Thanks again.

  • Is there any way that I can have songs in an iTunes Playlist without having the songs play in my regular music list.  For instance: can I have a Playlist of Christmas songs without having them play in the routine shuffle of my music library?  Thanks -Rog

Select the songs, press CTRL+I to Get Info, on the Options tab set Skip when shuffling to Yes.
If you want to the hide the songs from your main music view you could consider changing the media kind to audiobooks or podcasts if you don't mind the side effect of them showing up there instead.

  • Can I designate what specific playlists I want to play in order or shuffle?

With either the newer or older version of iTunes, is there a way I can designate a specific playlist to play in order or shuffle? I have specific playlists that I want to play in a particular order. I also others that I wouldn't mind shuffling them. From what I've seen, it's an "all or nothing" arrangement.

Do I turn-on/turn-off the shuffle on the PC (iTunes) or on the iPod itself.
It depends on which you're listening to. The shuffle settings are completely independent of each other.
Now, if you're talking about an iPod, then I don't believe there's any way to have some playlists shuffle and others not. To the best of my knowledge, shuffle is for the entire iPod. But you may want to ask about that in the appropriate iPod forum; it may be different for different models of iPods, or someone may know of a workaround.
How do I keep the play order intact for those that I don't want to shuffle?
For iTunes, just don't set the playlist for shuffle. For an iPod, see above.

  • Not all my music in my playlist plays on my iPad. Same playlist plays on my iPhone.

Not all my music in my playlist plays on my iPad. Same playlist plays on my iPhone.

This can happen if iTunes gets confused about what is and isn't on the device. These steps should resolve.
    Backup the device.
    Restore as a new device.
    Restore the backup made earlier.

  • Can you play TV show playlists in random continuous order like with music ?

I think I might be just missing something but when I create a playlist for TV shows and set it to play in random order the list is altered to a random order but if I play a video the player shuts off after ever selected episode and I have to reselect another video to play and then again it shuts off after the video is over. Seem to me if that all you can do then why would it list them in random order I can just select any video in random order if I have reselect ever video. But I'm guessing that I just missing something.

That seems to do the trick.
They aren't checked to skip but if I check the bax and say 'no' to not skip then it works Thanks.

    What is your iTunes version?
If iTunes 11, have you checked the "Up Next" list? If it is not empty, try if clearing "UP Next" will help:
