IPhone plays songs twice

hi,
strange problem when playing music on my iPhone 3G 16GB: in shuffle mode, it would play many songs twice, sometimes even three times. not always, but sometimes. any ideas?
same on iOS 3.x, 4.0, 4.0.1, 4.0.2.
thanks!

Here are a couple of articles from the apple support website that might help out.

You might need to reset and or restore the iphone to resolve any software issues.
Also, you might want to check itunes.
Find one of the songs that seems to remember the playback position.
Right click, or control click, on the song and choose get info.
In the info window, click on the Options tab.
There is a check box to remember playback position.
If you do not want the iphone or ipod to remember where you left off, make sure this box is unchecked.
Hope this helps.

how to stop my iphone 4  from repeating the songs

You say you don't use shuffle, but many confuse the Shuffle listing at the top as the only way to shuffle.
That listing at the top is NOT the setting, but rather a shortcut to start playing songs and turn on the shuffle option.
Go play any song. While playing, tap center of screen (art work)
Another menu area will appear with Repeat, Progress and Shuffle settings. Blue is on, white is off. I bet you that you have it on. And not, if you ever click that Shuffle listing in a playlist, it turns the setting on thus will be on later when you just go play a playlist or song.

  • My iPhone plays songs at low volume unless I replay the song. Why?

When I play a song in iTunes on my iPhone 4 (iOS 4.3.3), the song volume is too low until I restart the song and then the volume is normal.  What's going on, and how can I fix it?  It doesn't seem related to the Sound limiting, because it happens whether that's on or off.

Make sure you take the clear protective cover off the front glass. It covers the speaker and makes it nearly impossible to hear through the earpiece until it is removed.

  • IPhone playing songs other than what I click on

I edited a playlist on itunes and synched it. All the new songs are there. But...when I click on one to play it the song it flashes on the screen for a second then it plays another song. Specifically - it decides to play the song that's 2 above it on the list. I'm not clicking the wrong thing - I've tested it several times. No matter what song I click on it plays the one two above it. (Stranger still - when I click the first song on the list it plays one I have deleted). No idea why it's doing this but it's super frustrating. I have restarted the phone and it didn't change the problem.

is this strange behavior happening in other apps? like where you're selecting something in one location on the screen but it's responding like you tapped elsewhere?

  • Why does my iPhone 4 play same song twice?

why does my iPhone 4 play same song twice?

I had the same issue in my 2012 Nissan Altima.  It was a function in my car's stero settings.  I had to go to the car's iPhone/iPod settings when the iPhone was plugged into the USB.  My settings come up automatically when I plug in and I can scroll through the commands to "Shuffle" songs.  Hope this helps.

  • I have a number of playlists configured to play songs I haven't heard in a while. They then drop off the playlist once they've played. When I use my iPhone, however, the songs stay on the iPhone version of the playlist. Why aren't they syncing properly?

I don't like Apple's algorithm that constantly pushes the same songs at me, so I have a couple of playlists configured for songs I haven't listened to in a month, two months, etc. This has worked fine for years. Since I've gotten my iPhone 4S, however, things are goofy.  The songs are marked as played and fall off of the playlist on iTunes, but they stay on the playlist on the iPhone, which means they come up again and again in the shuffle of that playlist. Even if I sync the iPhone the songs are still on the version of the playlist on the phone and I can't figure out a way to "refresh" that playlist and get rid of them. I know this is my own particular quirk about my music, but it's worked with every other iPod I've had. I don't know why the iPhone is holding on to a different version of the playlist than the one on iTunes. Is there a setting I'm missing somewhere?
My iTunes is on a MacBook running Snow Leopard.

    Lynn,
I had a very similar issue (same playlist).  After several frustrating hours of various combinations I was able to sync by changing the options to "manuall sync.." and then "dragging and dropping" the needed playlist from the iTunes Playlist list to the iPhone button (on my itunes setup/view that was from the far left column list of all of my  playlist in iTunes to the far upper right "iPhone" button).  To sum up "checking" the playlist and syncing didnt work, "drag and droping" the playlist did... at least for now... then I unselected the "manually manage" in the options and re-synced and all playlist were synced correctly.  Good Luck.

  • How can I show album art in the mini player when playing songs from a plugged in iPhone?

How can I show album art in the mini player when playing songs from a plugged in iPhone?
When I play from my phone and switch to the mini player it's always showing the music notes in the thumbnaill. It'd be nice if it could get album art off of the phone.
    I'm on iTunes version 11.0.4.4

    He @mracole,
it is very nice that you post a solution to complete the library with artwork for album's that do not have an artwork. Your solution perfectly addresses the problem for assigning artwork, BUT this thread is about CHANGING artwork for albums already uploaded into iTunes Match. Just try to replace for example a blue artwork cover for an album with a red one. If you made it in a simple way (without deleting the album from iTunes Match and local changes on the files with an external ID3-Application or 2 or more iTunes libraries on different Mac's) this is the right place to give a solution. I really tried for hours to change the artwork to make them visible in landscape cover flow mode on my iPhone5. In rare cases I made it, but then the covers sometimes where restored to the old onces - exacly how it is mentioned by Starhawk
As long as there is no simple way to change the cover of an iTunes Match stored album (you can change title, artist and so on without hitting "update iTunes Match" over all distributed Library on different devices - this date will be synchronized almost instantly) I considered the behaviour from iTunes as BUGGY! For me the local artwork cache (and if there is any iCloud artwork cache - I don't know) do not interfere with iCloud. Even when I delete the whole local cache (album artwork music - everything) I do not manage to change the artwork.

  • My iPod is showing a white screen. I could not see anything. But I can listen to songs by blindly pressing the play button twice. The battery comes only for an hour.? How do I get the display and longer battery?

    Hello Friends,
I've two iPod Nanos (4th gen - 8GB). I'm facing a severe problem with both of them. For both iPods, I tried to do this method Simultaneously press the top button + home (central) button. But of no use.
    1. My first iPod is showing a white screen. I could not see anything. But I can listen to songs by blindly pressing the play button twice. The battery comes only for an hour.? How do I get the display and longer battery?
    2. My second iPod is facing more severe problem. None of the buttons are working. When I connect it my PC it showing "CONNECTED- eject before disconnecting". But it is not ejecting with all the usual methods. When I manually and physically disconnect it from the PC the same "CONNECTED- eject before disconnecting" is still showing till the battery goes off. After that if i press any button it is showing low battery signal. And when i re-connect it to the PC the same process is repeating. When I tied to restore it to the factory settings I'm getting "Error" report.
    (I'm using windows 7)
Friends, Please help me with the above problems. It will be a great help.
    Thank You.

Sounds like some hardware issues, meaning you'll want to take or send the iPods in for service or repairs. You can choose to have Apple do an out of warranty exchange for the prices indicated in the link below or find another third party service perhaps even local to your area.

  • TS3297 Is it possible for itunes on my MacBook Pro to play songs off my networked WD external hard drive and sync to my iPhone? I prefer to not keep all my music on my laptop and I don't want to pay $25 a year to access my songs if I don't have to.

Is it possible for itunes on my MacBook Pro to play songs off my networked Western Drive external hard drive so I can sync to my Mac to my iPhone? I do not want to keep any music on my laptop and I don't want to pay $25 to itunes match a year to access my songs if I don't have to.

    Hi turingtest2,
Thank you for replying.  I've been looking at your posts about setting up iTunes using an external drive.  A bit of background info.  My old computer broke down, so I got a new one from work.  I've always kept my music files on my external drive (I have around 170GB of music).  I didn't follow the suggestions in the "migrate iTunes library" post because my old computer died on me.  However, I've looked at your posts about lay out of the iTunes folders.  Before connecting to iTunes on the new computer, I had reorganized my iTunes folder on my E: external drive, and created an iTunes folder which contains an iTunes Media subfolder.  The music files are in a Music folder, which is in the iTunes Media folder.  I've also put the following files in my iTunes folder: iTunes Library.itl, iTunes Library Extras.itdb, iTunes Library Genius.itdb, iTunes Music Library.xml, as well as sentinel.  I then followed the advice you gave bmw99 on 2 Nov 2013 at 9.58 (sorry, can't copy the exact answer).
Just to clarify:  I'd like to keep all my music media on the E: external hard drive (the computer hard drive is too small), and I'm aware i might never have my playlists back, and that all the songs in my library might be ticked.  However, I don't want my library to be duplicated.
I'm at work at the moment, but will be back home in about 10 hours, so I can be more specific about folders / files names.
I'm glad you picked up my message and greatly appreciate your help.

  • My iphone still plays songs with lower quality instead of 256kbps

I enabled iTunes match on my iPad and iPhone 4S. However, it already
has my songs already synced on them and when I play songs it plays at
lower quality than at 256kbps as claimed by Apple.
One option is to delete all the songs on the iPad and iPhone. But that
will require me to delete every song individually. How do I solve this
    problem?

When you turn on iTunes match on your iOS device it should warn you that it is going to delete your songs.  You will then need to redownload the ones you want to listen to from the cloud.

  • IPhone can't play songs and import songs from PC at my workplace. Why?

Hi. I just bought an iPhone and i set up my iphone on itune at home and have also imported the songs from there into the iphone. But, when i connect my iphone to the itune at my workplace, i can't play the songs i already have in my iphone on itune or import any songs from the itune into my iphone. (the songs (of my iphone) is shown light grey on itune.
Why? Can anyone help to answer that?

Hi, I'm reading your answer regarding erase and replace... I haven't tried to use 2 computers at once. My nephew showed me how to sync music, by using his computer. When I got back to mine... it erased all he has synced. (I understand that) However, it will not record anything from mine.
Green light comes on and says it's syncing, but I can't even get ringtones synced.
I am computer 'functional' ... not 'literate' Thanks in advance.

Sorry, but if you see the "connect to iTunes" screen on your phone, the only option is to restore, backing up the phone is not possible at this point, even importing the photos might not work anymore.
