Iphone power supply 70 V on shield

Hi,
I was wondering why the metal frame on my iphone 3GS feels that strange stub
but only during charging with the original power supply.
So I measured the voltage from the metal frame against ground and found suprising 70 Volt.
It breaks down to 20 Volt as soon I touch it ..so it is only a small current of 0,02 mA.
But anyhow I wonder what crude circuit layout is behind that.
I repeated the measurement with an iphone 4 power supply and came to 80V.

While it is in general true, that more info is necessary, yet still I would inspect caps on the mainboard first. Are they bloated or leaking?
These old mobos have all bad caps... it is more like a pleague, just check the there pages there:
http://trodas.wz.cz/index.php?act=ST&f=16&t=432
So in short - check for possible hardware failure. I bet it is. What else could go wrong, when one day it is working and another day ít refuse to work? Try other PSU first, just to be sure. PSUs have bad caps too... in fact, they are build with almost exclusively bad caps.

  • Counterfeit 5W power supply (A1400)?

Today, I pulled my iPhone power supply out of the socket and the bottom plate with the mains connector got loose and came off.
Now I doubt if this power supply is genuine or counterfeit.
    Model: A1400 (European 5W)
There is a serial number in the USB connector: 1X1523F481DBAG
    I made some pics:

Is there some way to check if this PS is genuine or not?

Looks counterfeit to me. Apple adapters don't come apart; the must be sawed open. See: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wi-b9k-0KfE. BOTH adapters shown at the start of this video are counterfeit, not just the one that is obvious.

  • Help with using itunes with 4s library after i upgraded to iPhone 5 and computer power supply went

long story hopefully an easy fix....
on wensday my power supply went and had to ship computer across country to Puget Computer Systems as we weren't sure if it was power supply or mobo...luckily it was power supply.
i daily backed up iphone 4s with itunes (10.7) as i do all music manually, playlists, etc. have like 3,000 plus songs, videos, audiobooks, mail aaccts and about 48 apps.
so next day (sept 19th) apple comes out with iOS 6 which i update my 4s to with no problem. I wanted a day to play with it to learn my way around.
next day i wait in line for 8 hours overnite and was #2 in line at apple store for my ATT 32gb white iPhone 5. while at apple store I get my icloud backup which gets all paid music, apps, etc since itunes version 10.3 (i always did both backups so as not to lose my contacts more than anything.
I have other paid stuff that is in library on computer along with audiobooks and about 2700 more songs.
my icloud backup put the playlists on iPhone but not most of the music for them as lots were ripped from my cd's.as i double them up making a copy on iPhone and a copy on itunes.
So I have been using iPhone 5 with no problems just don't have all of itunes library on it. My computer is coming back this week how do I plug in iPhone 5 via USB (which will be seen as new phone even though it has same name) and use my existing iTunes 10.7 library which the backups in iTunes still has iOS 5.1.1 on it?
There must be an easy way of doing it as i don't want to wipe off iphone 5 again as i don't see any purpose my library is all organized perfectly. I know my way around windows 7 pro 64 bit pretty well just don't know what itunes is going to say once it sees "joe's iPhone" again and installs the usb drivers and icon for it. what will it ask in regards to library and how do i use it with previous iOS on it?
Thank you very much for the help as I am going to need it.
yes i broke the cardinal rule of cross posting and apoligize  for it just amazed i couldn't find answer via google nor any apple store genius knew it either.

    Hi All,
    Any help?
No one has any answers here amoungst all this apple knowledge?
    Thank you

  • Can I keep plugging in my iphone to the power supply despite fully charged to reduce the battery cycle?

Since an iphone battery lasts for 300-500 cycles before losing its juice, can I just continuously connect my iphone to the power supply to avoid using the battery, like how I use my macbook.

Yes, you can but best read this

Well the term "hotlined" I have never heard before. In any case many states (like NY) just passed regulatory powers to the State Public Service Commission of which it may be called something different in your state. You could file a complaint with them. Or file a complaint with your state attorney generals office, they also take on wireless providers.
The problem here is the staff you speak to are poorly trained, in days gone by it took one call to them and they pulled up your account and see the error and had the authority to remove any errors. They did not remove legitimate account actions, but used their heads instead of putting a customer off or worse lying to the customer.
Its a shame you have to go through what you going through.
    Good Luck

  • Can I use the iPod Nano cable and AC power supply with the iPhone?

Just purchased my iPhone 3G. Phone was in my pocket and the AT&T clerk neglected to put the box with the computer cable in the bag with the other accessories.
Until I can pick it up, can I use my iPod Nano cable? The plug seems the same size but I don't want to break anything.
Also, there was no power supply in the box due to the recall. Can I use the iPod AC power supply I bought for the iPod? It is the white brick about 3" by 3" by 1" with a USB socket in the side.
Thank you for helping me with my start-up glitches.

Ps. When you do get the accessories, look for a green dot (on the side where the prongs of the plug come out). If there, fine; if not, your adapter is subject to the recently announced recall of ultracompact USB adapters.

  • I just got my iPhone 4 a week ago, and I realized that whenever the battery reaches 55% or less, it automatically shuts down. I have to charge it again to turn it on. I won't turn on unless there is an external power supply to it. Why is this so?

I got my iphone 4 a week ago, but i realized that whenever the battery reaches 55% it automatically turns off and will not turn on unless its connected to a power supply (AC charger or USB on pc). I tried hard resetting it but it did not work. Havent restored it. Any idea why is this so? I hope it has nothing to do with the battery.

    Hi,
Not that's not normal and is one of the Problems I was having before Restoring as New...
Just make sure you Sync ALL your important Info... Contacts... Music... Etc... to your Computer...
and then do a Restore as New...
i was a bit reluctant at First, because I hadn't done it before... But it was So Easy and am Really Glad I did...

  • How to recognize fake power supply for iPhone?

    Hello,
last year in August I purchased at Amazon a "original" power supply plus USB-Cable for my iPhone 3GS. Now this thing sometimes works and sometimes it doesn´t. I called the vendor but he sees no responsibility for the artivle because it is out of warranty.
I told him that to me (and by comparing with other Apple-Hardware) the article looks pretty fake and therefore it does not matter if it is out of warranty or not - he sold fake hardware with "original" labeling on it.
Now I would like to verify my guess and see if this thing is fake or not. Do you have any idea how I can do this or what I should do now?
    Thank you
    kcn

To some extent it depends where the OP lives.  In the UK and the EU warranties are expected to be for two years (though Apple still advertises one year).  There are however, different definitions about what a manufacturing fault is.

I live in Canada (so I can't buy from places such as Amazon.com) and would like to keep the cost to a minimum (I don't fly all that often).
I am wondering what people recommend for an affordable portable power supply, that accepts USB?
    Thanks for your time.

There is power lost when using these chargers. Loss due to current creating heat in the wiring, loss in the iPhone battery that is being charged due to resistance in the battery, and loss due to the semiconductor devices used to manage the charging process. Not all of your 1000 mAh "ends up" in the iPhone battery.
I said "more than half" and that is literally true but a little pessimistic sounding. Maybe 70-80 percent. But I do not know. It will not be 87 percent. That's still good, to me.
Here is a quote from the instruction sheet for my 1200 mAh Richardsolo battery:
"If you have a 20-30% charge remaining in your iPhone, a fully-charged backup battery will bring the iPhone back to about a full charge. Once your iPhone is below 20% remaining battery charge, you may
not quite get a complete recharge from the backup battery, but close."
I find those percentages to be about right.
Regarding Amazon review, I think that is true only for an iPhone that is only partly discharged, not completely discharged.

  • My iphone 4 will only turn on with a power supply attached. what is wrong with it?

Hi I have an iphone 4 which got a bit wet (half went in water) but dried it out ok. but now the phone will only power up when the phone is plugged in to a power supply (indicating 100% battery) but then as soon as you unplug it it swithces off. Does anyone have any idea what the fault might be?

Yeah, it got wet and damaged the battery or charging circuit.
