Iphone Problem or Computer problem?

Over the 18 months I've had an iphone 3GS and LOVE it but have had problems with dropped calls, losing service and need to restart my phone before regaining service, phone restarting, apps closing on there own, 'call failed' when I have full service, and other strange problems. At first I thought It was the phone but I have had 3 replacement handsets and replaced my SIM card from TELUS 3 each time. Also have restored my phone, made sure software was updated, and did everything the apple rep. on the phone suggested. However, each time the same problem reoccurs with each new phone. SO, I am thinking it may be my computer. I have a Macbook 5.2 and just recently updated to version 10.6.8 Mac OS X. My computer is always updating and It is only used for music, pictures, school projects and internet use. HELP?? --Jill

My signal strength can be anywhere from full 5 bars to 1 bar it doesn't matter and it will happen randomly. All of the problems that occur are so random and occur regardless of if i'm at home, or 2 hours away at school, or 6 hours away at my cottage. That's why I was confused about it being Telus towers in my location. Also Telus and Apple seem to think it's a phone software issue but I have no idea obviously . but besides trying new SIM cards, restoring the phone and getting handset replacements there doesn't seem to be any other advice being given. I haven't had many problems with Telus with previous phones either. So confused on this one....

Reinstall iTunes. Make sure you follow the instructions in this support document to the letter. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923.
You may have some problems because Apple has not certified that everything works with Windows 8 yet.

  • When syncing my iPhone to my computer, an 'MTP USB-device' error appears. How to solve this problem?

When I try to connect my iPhone to my computer, it seems to be working fine (iTunes opens and connects), but still I'm getting this problem when my computer tries to install the supervisory program/driver (I'm not sure how to say it in English since Dutch is my mother language). I've made a printscreen of the error, and it's in Dutch, but maybe someone can see what the problem is anyway.
So... It says that the installation of the 'MTP USB-device' part failed.
The problem is that I want to put my photos on my computer, and I found these instructions (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083) to do that. But I don't get an Autoplay dialog box, caused by that error.
Could someone please help me? Thanks in advance!

I had the same iss - it's a known issue whereby Windows attempts to use the wrong driver to access the phone.
BACK UP YOUR REGISTRY!!! Editing the registry can be (read: IS) dangerous and can cause no end of pain if done incorrectly.
    - To Back Up your Registry: Click Start menu and click "Run". Type "regedit". Click File, then choose export and type "iphone driver fix registry backup".
    - Click Export and let it export the the registry to a file.
    - To fix the issue: Follow the folder tree on the left to: hkeylocalmachine > system > current control set > control > class
    - Find “{EEC5AD98-8080-425F-922A-DABF3DE3F69A}” down the LEFT hand side and click on it.
    - Under the list on the RIGHT hand side find "UpperFilters"
    - Right-Click UpperFilters and click delete
    - Close the registry editor and restart your PC (without the iphone attached).
    - Once restarted and logged back in, plug in your iphone and voila!  Windows will actually choose the correct driver and you'll be in like flynn.

  • ...here goes...i plugged my iphone into my computer for the first time to charge it, and walked away....when i returned it showed i had to open an account, ... my phone was charged, but the problem is it deleted all my pics and my contacts.....  is there

i plugged my iphone into my computer for the first time to charge it and was in a hurry and walked away, when i returned the add apple i tunes account information screen was up.....
my problem is, all my pictures got deleted from my phone, all my contacts got deleted also......weird thing is it put pictures on my phone from another phone and also txt msg from another phone......  has this ever happened to anyone else? if so,....do you know how, or where the pictures got moved to? and if they were deleted, is there a way to pull deleted pictures form a phones memory??   thank you any body that can give me any assistance....i really need it...

It can't do that by itself. You had to click through several prompts telling it to restore it from a backup of an old phone for that to happen.
If the phone was not backed up to iCloud before this happened, or to another computer, then the data is gone. There is no way to recover it.

iTunes thinks you have a new computer because you restored the OS. Open iTunes and authorize it to the same account you have on the iPhone. Did you restore your iTunes content from a backup after resetting your computer? Have you been syncing regularly with the computer, and does the iTunes library on the computer contain your apps, music and videos? If so just sync and your content will be removed then restored.
If you have not hopefully you have now learned something. You can recover apps and purchased songs by connecting the phone, without syncing, and choose "Transfer purchases..." from the File menu.

  • HT1535 I just downloaded the latest version of iTunes. Now I am unable to purchase songs on iTunes and I can't sync my iPhone to my computer. Is there a way to revert ot the old version of iTunes (when I had neither of those two problems)?

I just downloaded the latest version of iTunes (11.0.4). Now I both unable to make purchases on iTunes and unable to sync my iPhone with my computer without restoring it to factory settings (which will erase my data). Is there someway to revert back to 11.0.3 version of iTunes?

If you  have iTunes 11 turn on the Sidebar. Go to iTunes>View and click on Show Sidebar. You can also do a Crtl+S to show the sidebar and Control+B to show the Menu bar
To sync to your iPod go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Sync your iPod....>Sync You Device>Set up Syncing and follow the instructions.

  • USB 1.1 iPhone Problems

    *THE SITUATION*
Well, when I first got my iPhone (about 2 weeks after it was released) I had tons of problems connecting my iPhone to my computer which only features 3 USB 1.1 ports, and no USB 2.0 ports. The phone wouldn't be recognized at all, and then it would be fully recognized and wouldn't sync, and then sometimes it would just hang iTunes, and sometimes (about 1 out of 10 times) it would actually work as expected, albeit at incredibly slow USB 1.1 speeds. Apple support said my iMac wasn't supported because it didn't have USB 2.0. Fine. that is my fault, so I will just live with it, and do what I can.
Then, because of several software updates, the iPhone got much better connecting to my computer, and for several months I had no problems at all. I could usually expect that atleast half of the time I would connect to the computer and it would work flawlessly!
However, since I recently updated to iTunes 7.5 and iPhone software 1.1.2, my connection is once again completely unreliable. For that last two nights in a row I have been connecting and disconnecting my iPhone repeatedly, only getting the most minor of progression. After spending about 8 hours on the problem, I finally got the phone restored, updated, and about 15 songs on it... anything longer than that, and the iPhone 'times out', leaving iTunes just hanging there still trying to update the phone.
    *NOT THE ONLY ONE*
I started another thread, and apparently this problem is experienced by possibly everyone with USB 1.1 instead of 2.0. It is not a user-specific problem.
    HELP!
Are you experienced the same thing? Please post your story so we can see if it applies to everyone or not. Can anyone help us out? Why would it work fine one day, and then they apparently kill the functionality with a software update?
Any suggestions would be most helpful!

I believe your complaints stems from the fact that you are attempting to use USB 1.1.
    USB 1.1 has a data transfer rate between 1.5 - 12Mbp/s whilst;
USB 2.0 in contrast is markedly faster with a maximum data transfer rate up to 480Mbp/s.
Back in the day, the symptoms you're describing were reported even on the early iPods that started requiring a min. USB 2.0 requirement. You can still attempt to use these iPods or your iPhone with USB 1.1 but this sometimes results in the data feed locking up from congestion, which on screen can appear like the application or sync process has hung.
You may experience greater difficulty in syncing with each new iTunes implementation because each new version introduces new features and options that may require higher data transfer speeds.
To rule out your iPhone, its suggested that you try it with another computer that is equipped with USB 2.0. If it works fine, then most likely, you may need to upgrade to a USB 2.0 interface.

  • Iphone problem with itunes error 1603 on restore

I allowed my iphone battery to fully discharge and upon recharging got the error message with a large exclamation mark “please connect to itunes”. When I connected to itunes I was told that the phone was in recovery mode and needed to be reloaded. Itunes went out and downloaded the new firmware and began the install process after I approved the input screen that said it would wipe out all my data. 1/3 of the way through the process I received a message box that told me the process had failed to restore the iphone for an unknown error (number 1603).
After looking online and calling ATT as well as Apple the best solution I received was to send the iphone in for replacement (i am 5 hours from an apple store). After fiddling around I have managed to solve the problem on my own.
After trying everything else with no results, I pulled the SIM card out of the iphone and plugged the iphone into my computer. Itunes then reloaded the software and firmware successfully. I then put the SIM card back in and synced it up with itunes and it asked me to confirm the resync. Afterwards it just worked fine.
    My iphone works again!

"1- suddenly my iPhone 5 lost mobile company signal and word searching appears instead but no signal for the hole day so I changed the sim with other provider and since it gave me the same result I searched the web and the seems no solution other than restore.
I did restore and update to iOS 7.0.4 but at the restore takes at the last 1% in the last moment of restore it will take loooong time then gave me error 3. And now for more than a month the iPhone stuck with recovery logo. Almost I tried every trick in the book . Change USB cable, port, PC. PC with other OS . Even freezing the iPhone as I read here noooooo result the same happened again and again."
I have exactly the same problem with my iPhone 5s!

  • IPHONE PROBLEM WITH LATEST FIRMWARE

I just updated my iphone to the latest firmware and i now i cant synch my iphone with my computer.. every time i do it, it shuts my computer down.
    i'm running window vista
    any suggestion or help

Oh, that's great news. Well, I'm not messing with my USB Periphs...they are/were all working fine, so I'm going to wait for Apple to come up with a fix for this problem.
I'm now on my 3rd uninstall/reinstall of the Mobile Support and iTunes.
After this, that's it. I'll have to wait until someone finds an easier fix. For all of you who got 2.1, enjoy. My phone crashes about 3 times a day and I'd really like it, too.

Close all open apps by double-tapping the home button, then swiping up and off the screen with the app window (not the smaller icon).
Reset your device: hold down the home button along with the sleep/wake button until the screen goes black and you see the Apple, then let go. (No data loss)

  • Major iPhone Problem

    Hello,
I'm having a major iPhone problem!!!
My phone crashed yesterday and wont turn back on or charge since then. It will start up with the apple logo and then the screen goes dark, will only stay on for about 30 secs. It's an original not jailbroken or anything like that. iTunes won't recognize it at all, I tired resetting it, hard resetting it, a different cord, basically everything and NOTHING works!
    Please help! Thank you!

try doing a hard restart - hold home + power until the phone shuts down... then connect it to your puter.
you may have too many things running in the background on the phone... i have heard fetch & push can drain your battery like you experienced... i don't use them, i get my mail when i open the application.
