IPhone purchase via Sprint & fees particular to Sprint for that purchase?

Hi --
I hope it's appropriate to post this question here.  I suppose I could post it on the Sprint site as well, but folks on here, in my experience, generally know what's what.
I went through the checkout process to purchase an iPhone 4S via Sprint for $199 (it's the 16GB model).  So non-discounted cost is $649.
So, I realize one probably has to pay taxes on the non-discounted price.  But at checkout, Sprint had assessed taxes "and other related" fees & surcharges of $71.09, which is higher than the sales tax of CA State and LA City, even if one were being assessed tax on the $649 price.
Does anyone know if Apple's tax rate for purchase at a retail store is the same rate as Sprint's via the latter's website?
I ask because I dislike the idea of having any sort of "hidden" surcharges built into the price if such surcharges are being assessed by particular to Sprint that wouldn't be assesed by Apple.
I know the $199 price is the same via Apple but I'm not sure the "surcharges" would be.  Does anyone know?  If I can save a few bucks by avoiding a direct purchase by Sprint, I'm all for it.
Thank you for your time,
JC
PS.  I qualify for the upgrade with a 2 year increase in my contract.  It's a 4 phone business plan with all data and appears not to change should I change to the iPhone from my current Motorola, unless of course I want to pay an increased monthly fee to use the iPhone as a tethered device.

sprint has an upgrade fee, i believe it's currently $36, so that may be part of it.

  • HT1688 Is it possible to trade in my perfect iphone 4s with sprint, for a Iphone 4s with AT&T? How/Were could i do this?

I just got an iphone 4s traded to me from a freind for some audio equipment, unfortunately his carrier is sprint... and i have AT&T, is there any place i can take it to have it swapped for services or something of that nature?

No. You could try to sell yours and buy a new one.

  • Is there a way to send a text to All Contacts on the iPhone natively? Or is there an App for that?

    Testing 1...2...3

You need an application to send group texts. Easy Group is a free application I have developped for this feature.

  • Ordering iPhone 4G via the app - What happens after you agree to terms?

I'm trying to order the iPhone 4G using the Apple Store app.
After "I agree to the above terms" by switching the toggle to "YES", then nothing happens.
What is the next step in ordering the iPhone 4G? Do you have to call Apple?

They may no longer be taking pre-orders that way.
The only way I know that is working is through Apple.com. AT&T is no longer accepting pre-orders through their sire either.
Best way was always to go through Apple.com. All iPhones go through Apple's hands prior to it reaching AT&T anyway. You should get an Apple.com iPhone order quicker than an AT&T order for that reason. Apple has control of what goes where as far as inventory. I'm sure they'd rather have people mad at AT&T than at Apple themselves!

Again, you wasted your money. You can ignore raymond73's post, as you won't be able to turn off Find My Phone or delete the iCloud account associated with this phone, without knowing that info.
I don't know how clearer I can be.

  • Does the iPhone 5 support Sprint's 4G Wimaxx?

this is the answer i got from an Apple Support representative before he disappeared without saying anything:
    Now Chatting with Kaeleb
Hi, welcome to the US Apple Online Store.  How are you?
does the iphone 5 work on sprints 4g wimaxx and 4g lte?
Yes it sure does, the iPhone is designed to run Sprints network wherever you have it available.
i was told by a sprint representative that the iphone 5 is only capable of supporting their 3G or 4G LTE and doesn't supoort their 4G wimaxx
    Then that information is correct
Our iPhone is designed to run whatever network the carrier allows for, if they have features not offered specifically they would be the ones with that information. The network information comes from the carrier.
yes but is the phone capable of it? it either has the antenna to connect to it or not
All iPhones have antennas to connect to a cellular network, the type of network it connects to is determined by the service provider, in your case Sprint.
I haven't heard from you for a few moments. Would you like to continue chatting?
your not giving me useful answers
I am giving you accurate information
Wether its useful or not, the information your looking for comes from Sprint.
there are specific antennas and frequencies that must be used depending on what you're trying to connect to
And since you have already discussed this with them, I have no idea why you are here asking us about something Sprint has already clarified for you.
your the company that designs and manufactures thephone
Your not getting it. As you said, we make the phone.
    With an Antenna
The type of network* is determined by the service provider.
because prior to ever speaking with sprint one of your apple representatives gave me information contradicting that
4G, 4GLTE etc, all made up by the carriers to determine their networks.
what im asking is: is the iphone 5 made to be compatible with 4g wimaxx
whether or not sprint allows it to be
I get what your asking but your not quite understanding the answer. The iPhone is made compatible to connect to cellular network. Apple does not have information regarding which network types it will connect to, its designed to work on a GSM or CDMA network, the network strength which is 4G etc, is determined by the carrier. Here at Apple we have nothing to do with that.
We don't make iPhones designed specifically for 4G, 4G LTE, 4g wimaxx or any other network. Its made to run on a GSM or CDMA type network.
you manufacture 3 different iPhone that have specific antennas radio frquencies based on which carrier its going to be activated on
From the your carrier determines the compatibility.
    Thats not true
We manufacture 2 types as I told you
    GSM and CDMA
Sprint and Verizon are both CDMA
a verizon iphone cant be used on sprints network and vice versa because the use different frequencies
    both cdma but different
like the differnence between wimaxx and lte
Not true, its because the phones are locked to the carriers services. It has nothing to do with Antennas, I am not sure where you are getting your information but if you can show me on our website where it says anything about 3 different Antennas then I would understand where you are coming from.
Let me get you the number to our technical support team so that we can find a resolution to this issue. 800-APL-CARE(800-275-2273)
    one moment and i will
I am a sales chat and here to assist customers with the online store, I am not going to be able to leave this chat open for you to contact technical support.
    i already spoke to them
Ok great, do you have any online sales questions I can answer for you?
they weren't able to give me an answer and aid to look online
I find that hard to believe, this team knows for a fact and are the experts they would never direct anyone to go online for that information. You may have spoke with customer service. You need to call technical support from the number I just have you.
    well they did
    GSM model A1428*: UMTS/HSPA+/DC-HSDPA (850, 900, 1700/2100, 1900, 2100 MHz); GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz); LTE (Bands 2, 4, 5, 17) CDMA model A1429*: CDMA EV-DO Rev. A and Rev. B (800, 1900, 2100 MHz); UMTS/HSPA+/DC-HSDPA (850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz); GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz); LTE (Bands 1, 3, 5, 13, 25) GSM model A1429*: UMTS/HSPA+/DC-HSDPA (850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz); GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz); LTE (Bands 1, 3, 5)
This is a final warning to stop this type of response. If this conversation is not kept on a professional level, this chat will end.
    thats from your site
you asked me to show you thats what i did
You can call technical support but I need to assist customers with their purchases today.
i have been nothing but professional
    i am a customer
i own a macbook air and mac mini
as well as 4th gen ipod touch and an old iphone 3gs
Great, this is a sales chat.
and this is how youre going to treat me?
I have helped you to the best of my ability, your in the wrong department
All I am doing is getting you to the correct team, because obviously you have not been given the information your looking for.
well you helped me as much as your so called technical support that youre trying to refer me to. even though i already stated they werent able to help me
I guarantee you didn't speak with the technical support team. There is no way they would send a customer online to seek that information, they are well aware that the online store chat is for online sales assistance. I am not going to continue to argue with you. This chat is not going anywhere with this back and forth. If you want assistance you will call our technical support team.
    800-APL-CARE (800-275-2273)
thats who i spoke to at 10:03
put me on hold several times and said he was unsure and for me to look online
    in your chat community
Then I would suggest calling back because for whatever reason the agent you spoke with the last time must not have been an Apple trained technicians, as they get this question plenty and know the answer.
Thank you for choosing the Apple Store. If you have any additional questions, please chat us again.
You are currently not in a chat

All the information you need is right here: http://www.apple.com/iphone/specs.html
Notice there is no mention of WiMax.
It doesn't really matter anyway as Sprint is rolling their WiMax network down for use by MVNOs. Actual Sprint customers will not have access to WiMax at all. It was a failed experiment.

  • HT1430 my iPhone 4 shows sprint as my carrier but net10 is my provider and gave me the working phone number i have

My husband has an iphone4 and I used the Net10 byop package and it activated and they gave me the phone number and it worked immediately exept it states on home screen SPRINT!
(This phone came from a family member that no longer was using it. There was no service active on it when we received it, but activated it with the CDMA option from the BYOP package we purchased since there was no sim.) Thought you might want that info if you are able to help me!!
I went to the "about" section under settings and it shows sprint there also. How is this possible and how is the net10 service working when they are not tied to Sprint? I will say that the reception with net10 and this phone is horrible compared to the previous phone that my husband was using before we switched him to the iphone and before he had excellent reception most anywhere we were.
I really need help figuring this out and have read numerous articles but nothing can tell me how to change these settings or what i should do exactly.
Thanks for you time, it will be greatly appreciated!!

Net10 use ATT,T-Mobile for GMS phones and Verizon and Sprint for CDMA since your IPHONE is from sprint they are using the  sprint network to give you the service you are using; that is why in the carrier it says Sprint.

  • A few days ago i ordered applecare  for my iphone 5 at sprint. i bought it along with my iphone at the same time. is it supposed to ship at the same time or is the applecare  gonna ship a few days later? i already got my iphone but no applecare ! i called

  • Version iphone 4 on sprint

Can I use a version iphone 4 on sprint service ?

Just so you know what to expect:
When you ask your carrier to unlock your device, they "SHOULD" unlock it if you have completed your commitment for the phone purchase.
If verizon agrees to unlock your phone, there will be a delay for the system to process (usually around 3-7 days).  Once the unlock request is received on the Apple System, you will then restore your device to factory settings, the restore will activate a new "unlocked" profile, and you can then go to another carrier with the same network model (CDMA or GSM).
Apple has no control over unlocking, they only process the requests of the carrier.  So, until Verizon authorizes the unlock, you will have to wait.
    Hope this provides some insight.

I bought unlocked iPhone 6(A1586, MG6J2LL/A). It is for sprint. I am currently AT&T user. My new iPhone6 does not recognize my AT&T SIM card. Does it mean the iPhone6 is still locked. Can I use this iPhone6 in China?

Well, of course this new iPhone will not recognise an AT&T sim card in it - you purchased a Sprint phone which is a CDMA carrier and AT&T is a GSM carrier, so no, you CANNOT use a Sprint phone in the US with AT&T.  The 2 are not compatible and if you had wanted to use AT&T as your carrier, then you should have purchased an unlocked GSM phone and NOT a CDMA phone, which Sprint is.
Yes, the phone is unlocked, but it is the GSM portion and sim card tray that is unlocked for international use, so yes, you should be able to use the phone in China with a local Chinese sim card.
You can use the phone in China, but you will NOT be able to use s Spring CDMA phone in the USA with AT&T because they are a GSM carrier, so that is why an AT&T sim card is not recognised in a Sprint phone because the 2 are not compatible.
Perhaps you should have checked more closely when you were buying the phone that you were in fact purchasing the correct model?  Verizon and Sprint are both CDMA carriers, with AT&T and T-Mobile being GSM carrier.  Check before you buy next time so that you make sure that you buy the right phone.

  • Trouble activating Sprint iPhone 4s on Sprint

I'm running into some problems activating an iPhone 4s on Sprint, after it had been on FreedomPop for a couple of months. First, some background:
I have an iPhone 4s, purchased from Sprint, that was on my account for a little over 2 years before it was upgraded. Once upgraded, it sat in a drawer for a couple on months until a friend needed a new phone. About that time FreedomPop (a Sprint MVNO) allowed certain Sprint devices to be activated on their network, no Jailbreaking or unlocking required, just give them the ESN and if it were a supported device, they'd activate it. The iPhone 4S was on the list, so we gave it a try. It lasted maybe 2 billing cycles on FreedomPop. Last Wednesday service on FreedomPop was cancelled because the actual usability of the service was, well, crap.
Now that Sprint allows BYOD w/ no credit check accounts on to be added to a Framily ID, we tried to go that route with the iPhone. We called Wednesday morning to deactivate the FreedomPop account and a couple of hours later tried to activate it on Sprint. No dice. They said that the ESN was coming back as "incompatible." I assumed this might mean that FreedomPop has not actually let the device go, and I may need to wait a business day or 2. No problem. I activated an old LG phone I also had so that my friend at least had a working phone with which to make phone calls and send texts.
Fast forward to Saturday, I do a full reset on the phone, the "Your phone is not activated" message comes up on the lock screen, the Network shows "Unavailable" in General/About so I assumed this means we are free and clear. I even swapped out the SIM card (obtained from Apple that weekend), just in case. I tried to replace the LG phone with the iPhone on the website. I entered the ESN and it said that it was invalid. I tried again, thinking I'd fat fingered it, and same result. I then tried entering the IMEI, and same result. At this point it said I had tried too many times and it directed me to a chat agent. I explained the situation to the agent and s/he tried to activate it and was unable. S/he directed me to call telesales, where I spent 35+ minutes on the line with an agent who was also unable to activate the phone. He made notes and was supposed to escalate to another group for research, after which he'd give me a call with their findings. He said I should hear from him by yesterday, but I didn't.
So, ultimately, has anyone ever seen anything like this? I need to stress that the phone is NOT unlocked, NOT Jailbroken, NOT hacked in ANY WAY. It is 100% completely stock, purchased from a Sprint store.
Anyone have any ideas on what could be wrong, and how this could be remedied?

Anyone here would be guessing, but probably the MEID (you DID say Sprint, which is a CDMA carrier and thus has MEIDs instead of IMEIs) is still registered to FreedomPop in Sprint's database. You need to get Sprint to work it out, or wait a few more days. From what I have heard about FreedomPop I'm not surprised that they can't get this right.

Since the phone will be carrier-locked, you won't be able to switch the SIM to one from Mexican carriers. And continuing to call with the Sprint SIM will result in HUGE international interchange call fees.

You can't.  You purchased the wrong phone.  Sprint will unlock the GSM portion of the phone only for GSM carriers OUTSIDE the US, and only for current customers of Sprint.

I have iPhone 4S 32g Sprint, already cancelled week ago....My Question is if I can use any carrier like at-t or T-mobile for a cheaper plan....By the way my phone has a micro sd,any suggestions would appreciated, have a nice evening to all the apple user's & thank's....

I strongly recommend against switching to tmobile. They seem cheaper up front, but their "unlimited" data cuts you off at a certain point. They will even send you messages saying that you "went over your limit." Not only that but they sneak in fees, charges, and services that were never agreed upon making your bill more expensive. And forget ever trying to change your contract. They'll change it for you, but what they don't tell you is that they are roping you into another 2 year contract from that point on. No paperwork, no signatures, no nothing. They just screw you.
But other than that, yes you can unlock your iphone and use it with them. Though I wouldn't if I were you.
