IPhone quits to Home in the middle of an operation.

iPhone with the latest update and itunes version...
Everything about this phone has been stellar, except that about 20% of the time if I attempt to play an audio track, look up directions, or type a message the phone suddenly goes back to the home screen, as if I had pressed the button. I can assure you that my finger is nowhere near the button
My questions are, has anyone else had this problem? If so, is it a software update thing? Is it an inherent flaw with my particular iPhone?
Thanks in advance guys!

Although an occasional application crash will happen, they should not crash that frequently. I have had maybe 3 crashes in the entire time I've owned my iPhone.
The first thing to try is to clear out some of your flash memory. Make sure at least 10% of your flash memory is empty (400 MB on a 4 GB phone, 800 MB on an 8 GB phone). After making sure you have free memory, turn your phone all the way off, then back on again.
If that doesn't help, try resetting the phone (hold down the Wake/Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 8 seconds...the screen will first go black...release the buttons when the Apple logo appers).
If neither of these things helps, you can restore your phone by attaching it to iTunes and clicking the Restore button on your computer screen.
If you try all these steps and still get frequent crashes, I recommend that you stop by an Apple Store and have it looked at or call Apple tech support at 1-800-MY-iPHONE.

  • IPHONE RANDOMLY SHUTTING DOWN IN THE MIDDLE OF AN OPERATION

My iphone has taken to shutting down and displaying the Apple logo- can be in the middle of a call, or typing a text, or opening an e-mail. It will go to sleep for a minute(with the logo illuminated), maybe two then the home screen appears again, and the phone will then work faultlessly for an hour, maybe more, then it has another headfit and will crash several times inside an hour. I am running the most up to date version. Rebooting using the home button and off button simultaneously, has no effect. I have restored using itunes, several times- it still does it. I have deleted all the bought apps- to see if one of those was the cause. No better. Just running original apps supplied, still continues to have amind of its own, shutting down on a whim.
AM I ALONE IN EXPERIENCINMG THIS?

This is almost certainly a software issue. You should perform a restore on your computer. If this does not work you should make an appointment at the Genius Bar at your nearest Apple Store. However, I believe a restore should do the trick. Plug the phone in to your computer. Open up iTunes. Sync the phone. Then, from the summary page for the phone in iTunes hit the Restore button and let it do its thing. When it is done it will ask if you want to restore from the back up of your phone. Just say yes and all your information will be synced back over. Welcome to the Forums.

  • My iPhone 4 shut down in the middle of a conversation and won't restart or charge. Any suggestions? The nearest Apple store is hours away from where I live.

My iPhone 4 shut down in the middle of a conversation and won't restart or charge now. Any suggestions? The nearest Apple store is hours away and I depend on my phone to stay in constant touch with my child's specialist.

I've tried that several times. It will not reset. The screen just stays black. I've never had this problem before. It usually resets the first time.

  • I cant reset my iphone by itunes because in the middle of restoring it it tells me the iphone is with a passcode!!

i cant reset my iphone by itunes because in the middle of restoring it it tells me the iphone is with a passcode!!

You need to restore via recovery mode, follow the article below to do this:

  • My iphone encountered an error in the middle of being updated via itunes. How do I fix it?

I started updating my iphone 4s to ios 6.1 using itunes. In the middle of the update after my iphone turned itself back on it would not reconnect to itunes. How do i fix this problem?

Try DFU Mode Restore. Open iTunes on computer. Connect iPhone to computer with USB cable. Hold both Home and Power button, after exactly 10 seconds release the Power Button, keep holding the Home button until iTunes recognizes iPhone in Recovery Mode, usually about 20 seconds time. If any Error Messages are given write them down so you can look up the cause and solution.

  • IPhone MAP voice dies in the middle: DANGEROUS

My iPhone's voice directions stops in the middle of giving me directions and then quits after 5 minutes.  Needs a reboot to get the voice back.
    Details:
    1. Lookup some place on Maps.
    2. Navigate to there (the usual directions stuff from Map's pin)
    3. Route and Start.
    Here is what happens:
    1. Voice comes on and starts giving directions (turn right in 100 ft, etc.)
    2. Within 5 minutes, the phone becomes silent and stops giving directions.
    3.  Map is still alive and shows all the visual information.
    To Get Voice back:
    1. Restart iPhone (this is in the middle of driving).
    2. Enter pin number to get into the phone (this is in the middle of driving).
    3. Got to map app (this is in the middle of driving).
    4. Wait for Verizon signal to come back on.
This behaviour reminds me of Microsoft Software:  Reboot for every use, reboot at least once a day, features work half of the time, features are partially implemented, etc.  I'd rather NOT have this feature than a feature which quits in the middle of driving.
For me the iOS map application is DANGEROUS.
Platform: Latest iOS 6.1.3, iPhone 5.  Carrier: Verizon,
My technical skill level: very good.

"You have never heard of this issue" ...  I am facing this problem.  So either it exists or I am making it up.
I really don't have the time to write this unless I have been in serious trouble because of this bug.  So do not assume this problem does not exist.  It probably does on other phones but shows up with less frequency or maybe more.
It is dangerous if you are likely to end up in the "combat zone" of a city and you don't want to stop as it is dangerous in the middle of the night and the MAP application stops giving you directions.
I paid money for it and there is no choice after that: neither for Apple nor for me.  It has to work well as there are other products that have been doing this well for many years using ancient processing technology.
You may ask me not to use it.  Dude, I paid money for it.
BTW, just so that you know that I have the utmost respect for Apple:
I have been working on Mac products for close to 30 years and I know the amount of care that the developers put into their products.  Apple's developers are beyond normal; they are amazing.
This MAP application, however, seems to be not quite up to par.

  • HT1414 Iphone 3G restarts right in the middle of restore so I keep getting unknown error message.

Hey everyone, I have an old school Iphone 3G, it restarts itself right in the middle of a restoration so I keep getting unknown error message. I don't know why but no matter what usb port I plug it into, the white bar underneat the Apple logo on the iphone will get right close to the end but then like I stated earlier the phone restarts randomly, so it won't let me restore the product because it keeps getting reset by itself.
    please help me

Thanks for helping out, but I already tried these steps.
I even tried this on a iMac with similar results. The only difference was that the errorcode was called 2001 instead of 21.
Today I took the phone to www.iphoneambulancen.dk. A guy (in Aarhus, Denmark) that specializes in iPhone repairs. I figured, that given his occupation he'd seen most errorcdes. Two hours later, he called me back, and told me that he had replaced the battery.
So, it turns out that a broken battery can cause this behaviour.
    But thanks again

  • HT1212 My daughter's Iphone 4 locked while in the middle of changine the password. Now we can't get any password to work. Hooking it up to the computer and trying to reset the phone it tells me to turn off Find My Phone first. I can't. Help?

My daughter's Iphone 4 locked in the middle of changing her password. Now the old or the new passwords do not work. When trying to restore setting hooked up to the computer it says to enter the passcode on the phone first. I can't! Any help?

Please try putting your device into recovery mode to see if this will bring the device back. IF you are using iOS 7.0.4 you will need your apple id password to access the device.

    good luck.
If the device had Find My iPhone activated, yes.  Otherwise, no, you don't need your Apple ID & Password, just because of iOS 7.
To access iCloud or iTunes, etcetera, yes.  But that's no different than in iOS 6.

  • IPhone 5s shut down in the middle of the night.

My phone randomly shut off in the middle of the night, I'm not sure if it was just a glitch and won't happen again, but I want to make sure that it doesn't happen again.  The phone was charging and I had to hold the power and home button down for about 30 seconds for it to turn back on. Could you tell me how to prevent this from happening again?

It's a computer, they're not perfect devices, sometimes they freeze.  There's nothing you can do to guarantee it won't happen again.  I would just ignore it unless it happens again.  If it does, you can do the standard troubleshooting steps such as restart, reset, and restore.

  • IPhoto quits/crashes unexpectedly in the middle of use

    Hi guys,
Last night I was using iPhoto to edit some images and everything is going fine. In the middle of editing iPhoto suddenly freezes up and and then suddenly closes (sometimes closing and going staright to the desktop or sometimes closing and immediately going to a white screen) and then prompts the "unexpected closure" message. So I click reopen iPhoto and resuming what I was doing and then does the exact same thing as stated above. It did this four times last night and is becoming very annoying so any help that could be provided would be really appreciated. Thank you

Assuming you're running iPhoto 9 (11) apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #3, followed by #4 and then #1 as needed.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • My iPhone 4 stopped updating in the middle of the process and now I can't use my phone. Itunes also doesn't recognize it, but my computer does when it charges

So I was talking to my friend on the phone and hooked it up to my computer to sync and the update thing appeared. I clicked on update and download the latest update for it and it was going smoothly. After the software/firmware (I can't remember which one) was extracted, my phone was backed up. Once the back-up was complete, iTunes said preparing update. That's when I got a message saying the update could not be performed or something (it sounded like the phone came unplugged or something). Now my phone is stuck on a screen with a usb connector with an arrow pointing to an iTunes logo.
I've tried pressing the sleep/wake button, holding it, holding the home button, and holding both for a hard reset. Nothing has worked. I have an Apple Care policy, but I want to see if there's a way I can fix it so I don't have to go to an Apple store.
I can't rememebr what OS I was running at the time, but I think the update was for 4.3.3 if that helps
Thanks in advance for your help!

  • IPhone 3GS re boots in the middle of calls

I have seen a couple of threads and don't know if Apple have sorted this yet so a quick query to those who may know.
I have a 3GS and ever since IOS4 came out, if I am making calls sometimes it doesn't happen but if the call is likely to be 6 to 10 minutes in length there is a good chance it will just re-boot itself during the call.
I then have to wait about 3 minutes - feels like hours - whilst the iPhone reboots itself.
Haven't tried it yet, but if I go in to Apple - the question is can they fix it? Has anyone else out there experienced this and had it sorted?
    Thanks

I have the same problem with my 3GS.........the phone re-boots after 4 minutes then shows the 'Apple' logo for 1 minute before normal service. I should point out this mainly happens from my home location which suggests a signal issue although I have never experienced the problem with any previous phone and indeed, other visiting IPhone users don't have a problem either. I am with Vodafone who tell me I am imagining the problem and it is something they have never heard of before and I have spoken to people at the Apple Shop who just look at me blankly scratching their heards and say "Really?, never heard of that one before........!"
Sorry can't help your problem but glad to hear others have similar frustrations. Perhaps through this forum somebody from Apple will have the courage to own up and say "Yes, we do have a problem...." and fix it!
Otherwise, it's a great little 'Gizmo' but pity about the useless (and expensive!) phone.

  • My iPhone is crashing constantly in the middle of apps.

I am using iOS 5.1 on my iPhone 4
This happens repeatedly durring accross a mirage of different apps:
I will be using the app and I will go to make a purchase or download or take a picture or any number of actions in almost every app my phone will freeze up and then the screen will go black with a spinning icon in the center for about 30 seconds and then return me to my lock screen. If proccede to go back into the app and try again it will do the same thing.
I have tried shutting it off and restarting it and connecting it to my computer for updates.

I've tried that several times. It will not reset. The screen just stays black. I've never had this problem before. It usually resets the first time.
