IPhone quits working

My iPhone was operating fine, until I had it connected to my PowerBook G4 and was updating its software. The update required that the machines restart. After the restart, the iPhone message was that it needed to "restore," and all the data would be lost. Without a choice, I chose that. Then, after the software was redone, the message is that the phone cannot work without a "sim" card. I don't understand what's happening here. Please help?

If it isn't reading the SIM card try removing and re-inserting it (push a paper clip into the hole on the top next to the earphone jack). You should then get an Activating message. If you don't repeat the Restore. If the same problem remains call AT&T or visit a local store for a replacement SIM card. If that fails take it to Apple or call apple for a repair.

    Did you have it set up to sync Contacts to iCloud? If so you can log in to https://www.icloud.com and see that they are there.
    If you just backed up to iTunes or iCloud then there isn't a way to visually verify the contacts other than doing a restore. One exception to that is that if you used iTunes for the backup, there are 3rd party extractor programs that can display the contacts.

    Did you try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button until the Apple logo comes back again?
    If this does not work, try to set it up as new device, without using the latest backup, in case it contains corrupt data. How to back up your data and set up as a new device

    It was working fine until I ripped a couple of CD's into ITunes.  Then the wifi sync quit working.  My iPhone 4 IOS5 simples has a line that says "waiting for iMac".  It does sync fine with the USB cord so it's only a bother to get out the cord.  Probably shouldn't complain but it is curious that it did work fine and then just quit.

    Well, it seems like I fixed it by enabling port forwarding in advanced, enabling zero config in device directory, and then restarting both devices. Not sure exactly what it did, but now I can wifi sync. So I'm pretty happy!

    Try putting your finger on the screen ans slide left to right the narrow way. You may have changed pages in the 9 page home screen.
    Also, you say your wallpaper is displayed. On a stock phone the wallpaper only appears when you first wake the phone before you slide to unlock. There are some hacks that display the wallpaper as background for the home screen. If yours is hacked the problem is most likely in something you installed. If that is the case we neither know how to fix it here nore are allowed to discuss it.

    It does seem rather odd that an app that was acquired thru itunes would quit working once it was incorporated into the device for all users. oh well it was probably free or $.99 when I downloaded it.
    I would think that they were just testing it to see how many people would use it.  But you might want to write a polite letter to Apple requesting a credit for the purchase price of the no longer supported app.  That seems to be the least they could for one of their 'alpha testers'.

    I tried the fix from Linda Swenberg and it worked.
    Turn Off SERI in General settings
    Power down the phone ( press and hold the on/off buttton)
    Turn it back on
    Turn SERI back on
    Wait 3 minutes
    It then worked

    Wow that is so unlucky. If I was you I would try talking to someone at the Apple Store, explain your situation and don't be shy to shed a tear or too. Its just a shame 3 weeks after your phone getting hardware problems. I know people will say, oh buy Apple Care but I feel ya and I know adding that extra money in the beginning feels pointless and expensive.
    Worst case scenarion like I said you will have to pay Apple 269 for them to swap phones. Or if you have any nerd friends have them fix it for you. Its a tedious repair the way the power button has some weird hinge that needs to snap on and ribbons are so thin. I do not advise for you to attempt to fix your self unless you don't care if you break it completely.
    Alternatively you could just turn on Assisitive touch on accessibility and use that. That way you wont need to pay anything to fix your phone and wont need to take it apart either.

    Headphone works fine, but I get zippo from the speaker except an occasional crackle.
    Turned off BT, reset settings, plugged and unplugged the headphones (to see if the sensor was stuck), rebooted the phone, did a restore to factory, everything I could think of.  Speaker is dead.
    Don't  perform this update - something's wrong.
    Now I've got a useless piece of junk and I keep missing incoming calls.  Nice job Apple!

    It would seem the printer has lost the network information since it is flashing and power cycling the printer did not work.
    This means it needs to be treated as a new installation to get it back on the network since it is a USB to wireless setup.
    This will require a computer on the same wireless network and a USB cable to send the network information to the printer.
    Uninstall the printer completely from the system.
    1.  Install the printer again and choose Network when prompted for the setup type.
    2.  Connect the USB cable when prompted.
    3.  Follow all the prompts during the installation and disconnect the USB cable when prompted.
    At this point, it should be back on the network.
    The newest software can be found by clicking on Support & Drivers at the top of this page and entering your printer's model for software and driver downloads.
