IPhone Randomly Loses Wifi & Data Capabilities, Must Restart to Fix

So I've had my iPhone 5c for the better half of the year, but all of a sudden the past two or so weeks it has been randomly losing most of its functionalities, and restarting it is the only way I can find to fix it, which can be really annoying.
Here's a little more detail of what happens:
I will be connected to the WiFi at my home, when all of a sudden I cannot load anything involving internet (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or even sending iMessages). Despite the fact that the same WiFi network can be working fine on my Macbook, game consoles, and even other peoples' iPhones at the same time, I always try turning off the WiFi after assuming my WiFi was just down.. Even after completely disabling the WiFi on my phone and trying to use my data (while having 3-5 bars), I cannot load anything or send iMessages still. I've tried resetting my router despite everything indicating that the problem is beyond my WiFi.
And the strangest thing is that it only happens when I'm at my house, even though the problem does not seem to be my WiFi (since after restarting, my phone relies on the WiFi fine).
I would take this to an Apple store but I'm positive I'm going to get the "Reset your iPhone back to factory defaults and lose all your data" answer, which is not the one I'm looking for.

I am experiencing the same issue on my iPhone 5S.  Ever since around when iOS 8.0 was released I've intermittently seen this issue occur at random times.  With mine, it can happen at any time (regardless of the wifi or even LTE network).  Data and phone functions will just completely stop working even though the phone shows no indication.  The only way I find out it stops working is when I receive no data when trying to use several different apps which require network.
The only work-around I've found is to reboot the phone.  I've messed with all network-related settings attempting to remedy the problem prior to rebooting but nothing seems to do the trick.  I've tried resetting all network settings which has not resolved the problem.  My last resort was several days ago when I did a complete factory reset and re-install of the ipsw of iOS 8.1.2 from iTunes.
Seems there's either some sort of software bug or hardware bug occurring here.  I'm currently using Verizon, and I have a friend with an iPhone 5S on Sprint with the exact same symptoms.  Looks like I'll be paying a visit to the Apple Store to see what is happening.  In the meantime I've submitted feedback to Apple and I've installed the baseband profile to try and catch the event logs if/when the error occurs again to submit to Apple as well.
My suspicion is something happened with iOS 8 compatibility and perhaps something on my phone or the services I use is creating a software bug which temporarily kills the radios.

  • Geotagged iPhone Images lose location data when exported?

Gudday fellow iPhone warriors, here's my vexing issue:
This morning I used the Flickr and Panoramio iPhone Apps to upload some geotagged images from my Camera Roll and synced iPhoto Events (yes, I can confirm that all my images are tagged, and they show up in Places on iOS4).
When these geotagged images arrive at Flickr and Panoramio, they contain no location data.
Is this location metadata stripped from the images as they are exported from the iPhone? If so, who can I make the suggestion to, to leave the location data intact when I export images from the iPhone?
Cheers, and thanks in advance for your words of wisdom ;O).

    Thanks for the prompt response!
Did a little extra research, got some more information:
    - yep, the Flickr iPhone App is busted (per the App Store user reviews)
    - yep, the Panoramio App is busted (per the App Store user reviews)
    - my metadata permissions for both Flickr & Panoramio are good to go
    - pics emailed to Flickr from iPhone *lose their geotag* data
    - pics emailed to Panoramio from iPhone *lose their geotag* data
    - pics emailed from MacBook Pro Mail as small, medium, large *lose geotag* data
    - pics emailed from MacBook Pro Mail as actual size retain their geotag data
    - pics emailed from iPhone Mail lose their geotag data
So, looks like iPhone email app is one of the culprits, and the Flickr and Panoramio Upload Apps need to be updated to take advantage of the new capabilities in iOS4 to use image EXIF metadata.
I'm going to try another test tonight:
    - upload an image from the iPhone to the iPhone DropBox App
    - check the metadata of that image from DropBox on my MacBook Pro
Can you think of anything else??
I was quite shocked to see that Apple Mail strips the metadata of images that are resized for emailing...

  • Restoring iPhone software, Lose game data?

Hey guys. Someone (NULL) my girlfriends iphone and we want to restore it to 6.1.3 from 6.1.2 (NULL). We would like to wipe ALL (NULL) files off the device by doing a restore, but she doesn't want to lose her game saves and such. Is this possible? She plays hay day, candy crush, doodle fill, doodle jump, doodle snake, fruit ninja, jet pack joyride, sally spa, sally studio, temple run (all of them), and where's my water. She uses icloud, but we don't know if this data will be saved. How do i do a clean restore (i usually set my phone up as new) without losing data, but basically installing a fresh install. Deselect the apps in icloud that we don't want saved, delete the backup, then rebackup? Does icloud save game info? I think some of these games are linked to facebook, but we also don't know if it will save on facebook. Help!

It's probable that you cannot recover her saved games since you would have to restore from a backup and that may well put the jailbreak back on, or enough of it to cause problems, But you can try. Put the iPhone into DFU mode and see if that will let you restore and remove the jailbreak:
    http://osxdaily.com/2010/06/24/iphone-dfu-mode-explained-and-how-to-enter-dfu-mo de-on-your-iphone/
If you can successfully restore, do the restore again this time from the most recent backup. With luck you'll get her saved games back. If not, or it puts the jailbreak back on or causes other problems, then she's out of luck.
Some jailbreaks cannot be removed and in some cases will permanently disable your iPhone. If that happens to you, then you will have to buy a new iPhone; Apple will provide no support, warranty or out-of-warranty, for a jailbroken iPhone.
    Good luck.

  • Wifi connection drops - must "restart" airport every 2 mins

Everything used to worke fine, I live near a free hotspot and the speed is correct. Now (since when, I can't know), it appears that the connection is correct for a few seconds/minutes, then drops. The solution I temporarily found is: deactivate airport, and activate it just after. At this moment, I have a full quality signal for a few seconds/minutes, and I have to repeat the operation.
I tried with my PowerBook: the signal is stable. I event tried to share the PowerBook wifi connection to the iMac via the firewire (cf. system pref/sharing), and then my iMac connection is stable!
I restarted on Vista, and it seems I have the same pb there also, so it's not a priori a MacOS issue.
It can't be a security issue since there is no security key on this network (WPA or WEP)
Does anyone know a program to test the hardware of the airport card? or a firmware upgrade?
    Thanks
(I asked this question on another post, but there was a "question answered" symbol, that's why I'm asking it again on a new post)

My imac 24" Tiger was working beautifully connecting via airport to Linksys DSL router until i applied Airport Express Update 2008-002. It kept dropping the connection even thought the airport wireless icon shows full signal strength.
I scoured the net and for over 2 weeks applied every possible solution from deleting widgets to changing router channels and even removing all items surrounding the DSL router like cordless phone and digital clock... nothing worked. I even dug up the 2008-001 airport update and reapplied that but no good
I finally got so fed up that i re-installed the OS 10.4.7 with the "archive previous system option" and everything worked great. I then updated the OS to 10.4.11 and still everything worked consistently. I applied Airport Express Update 2008-001 and things went south.
I reapplied the 10.4.11 update again and things are back to working consistently.
Reinstalling the OS took a couple of hours but it really is a lot less painful than having an unreliable connection and the stress of feeling helpless, especially while the Windows machines had no connectivity issues. Hope this helps.

  • Iphone constantly loses Cellular Data APN settings   - PLEASE HELP

    HI
I bought a 16gb 3gs iphone and contract from tesco just before Xmas. The settings I have used for APN and MMS are:
    prepay.tesco-mobile.com / tescowap / password
Unfortunately the iPhone has an annoying habit of reverting to: idata.o2.co.uk / vertigo / password
Has this happening to anyone else how do I fix it??? This is the 2nd iPhone since the 17th Dec I have had that is doing the same thing.
    ;-(

I sent my 32gb 3gs pay-as-you-go iphone back to tesco to repair this self same problem. I received a letter in which tesco admits (and I quote) "Your phone has been examined by one of our engineers and unfortunately we have found that we are unable to carry out a satisfactory repair." They packaged a brand new iphone "to ensure you are not inconvenienced in any way." And, you guessed it, the replacement iphone has exactly the same problem of being unable to retain its cellular data network settings.
I believe tesco have been aware of this issue for some time, yet have carried on selling pay-as-you-go iphones in the hope they could find a resolution. Until today that is, when its customer care line started to announce pay-as-you-go iphones are no longer for sale - contract only. The tesco direct web site has now taken them off sale, but very quietly. They are still being advertised but you don't find out they are unavailable until you get to the the checkout.
I have persevered with tesco on the telephone (being passed from pillar to post) insisting that the iphone is unfit for purpose in that it does not provide - and has never been able to provide - the services promised. Today they agreed to give me my money back. Lets see if I get it.

  • Duo Displays Problem on MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012) Resolution 2560x1440 and 1280x800, Sometime 2560x1440 is blank screen and must restart to fixed it

    Dear all,
I found some problems for using Duo Displays with MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012) display and Samsung UHD Display (U28D590). I use resolution on my macbook is 1280x800, Samsung UHD Display is 2560x1440 And Connect with Display port to mini display port.
But I use sometime found always blank screen on Samsung Display and I tried to unplug mini display port and plug it again but it is not working until I shutdown and restart my macbook pro, my display back to working.
I want to fix this problem because it is very trouble for my working a lot.
    Thank you very much
    Phot

The symptoms I'm getting now, and I'm not sure if they're any different, suggest that for some reason Mountain Lion thinks my display resolution is higher than what it is, as wether I'm turning AirPlay on or off, it keeps changing it (on the MacBook) to what looks like maybe 1080p.

  • Hello,  since the last update 10.6.8, my MacBookPro mid 2010 randomly loses the connection with my wifi AppleTV2

    Hello,
Since the last update 10.6.8, my MacBookPro mid 2010 randomly loses the connection with my wifi AppleTV2 2. It works well with the connection between myPC and filiaire AppleTV2 els and between my iPhone 2 (3G and 4) and AppleTV2 butpoorly between the MacBookPro and AppleTV2.
Then I must quit and restart iTunes every time to continue to read my films. I repairedmy permissions, I restore my 2 AppleTV2 but that do nothing. I concluded that it is a loss of wireless connection. I do not know exactly what to do ...
    If anyone can help

Thanks you rbrian, it seems that your solution is good because after some tests it works very well

  • Very slow data on iphone 5 via wifi or at&t network

Data on wifi or the LTE network from at&t is very slow.  My old iphone 3GS on wifi is faster when comparing wifi and past tests using 3G.  Is there an issue wih the new iPhone 5 that is known and will be fixed? I was expecting blazing fast data on the new phone and it's slower than my 3 year old iPhone 3GS...  Please explain.
    Thank you.
    Joe

My wife received her white 64 GB AT&T iPhone 5 from on September 26th (after ordering on the 14th from Apple) and she has had recurring problems with her data connections.  Specifically, it will find wifi networks and even connect to them, but then it will spontaneously lose connections and she'll get error messages out of the blue saying that she's not connected to a wifi network.  Also, while she often has 4 or 5 bars for her cellular signal, the LTE, 4G, 3G, or Edge indicator is often blank.  Sometimes, LTE will light up and she'll be able to download at super-fast speeds, but then other times it's just not available.  Also, the wifi indicator will show multiple bars (or waves?), indicating that there's a strong wifi signal, but the internet just won't work over it.  This will happen while I'm sitting next to her with my AT&T iPhone 4, just sailing away on the internet with no problems at all.
SO, we took her phone to our local Apple Store in Troy, Michigan for a Genius Bar appointment.  The Apple Genius told me that he had the EXACT same problems with his new iPhone, so he exchanged it for another one, and that also had the same problems.  He thought there were a few things going on.  First, the LTE issue is a local issue for us here in the Detroit area.  AT&T just rolled out LTE here 2 weeks ago.  So, they are having a number of bugs related to the network being new and possibly a little premature.  He thinks the network will be better in the next few months, from what he's heard from AT&T.  The wifi issue he believes is a software problem, unique to iOS 6 and its installation on the iPhone 5.  Since the LTE thing keeps going on and off, and wifi keeps going on and off, the data connection on the phone is very unreliable at this point, and the phone is using a lot of power to try to maintain that connection, hence the faster battery drainage we're exeperiencing as well.
The bottom line is that there was nothing he could do for me.  He wouldn't even let me TRY a phone replacement to see if it would be better.  His suggestion was for me to sit tight and wait for Apple software updates and for AT&T to improve their network.  However, I am scheduled to have my new BLACK 64 GB AT&T iPhone 5 delivered tomorrow (October 1st).  I will restore it from my iPhone 4 backup on my iCloud (like I did with my wife's) and I will se how it goes.  If that phone connects and works flawlessly while my wife's phone continues to have problems, then I will return her phone for a new one.  On the other hand, if my phone behaves the same way as hers, then I guess I'll follow the Apple Genius' advice.
