Iphone receiving read messages from mac mail

My iphone used to only receive unread emails as long as entourage on my mac wasnt open. Now i have moved to mac mail and my phone is receiving read messages from mac mail. Is there a setting im missing that will make my phone only receive new messages?
I still want my mac mail to receive these same emails later as it used to work.

You would still receive read e-mails in the inbox on your iPhone (and vice-versa) if you used IMAP but they would show as having been read and not as new. IMAP keeps all mail clients synchronised. The only alternative would be to use POP to download to your phone and IMAP to download to your laptop and create another folder on your computer and move mail over to it when read. By default, POP only downloads from the inbox so your phone would not download it again. IMAP would leave a copy in the folder you have created on the server in case you have problems with your laptop. If you delete read e-mails on your laptop, you can set it to remove them from the server after a fixed time and they would remain there until then but your phone would not download them again.

  • How do i restore deleted email messages from mac mail back to hotmail server?

here the problem - i found loads of my emails missing when using hotmail webpage
but in MacMail they are all there still.
i found that in macmail settings "remove copy from server after retrieving a message" was selected(after one week). (now i have disabled this function)
how can i send them back to the hotmail server email box?
Many thanks in advance for help. Rick

the emails are in inbox of mac mail back to 2009 but when i log in the hotmail.com website they only go back to jan 2012
i think mac mail has erased the from hotmail server after placing them in the mac mail.
i need emails back on hotmail server for access to old emails when working out and about with ipad.
I do not know if you can unfortunately, having deleted them from the POP server and as Hotmail does not offer an iMap or Exchange solution for OSX they may be 'marooned'
I will search around and see if I can find a solution.
But before anything else happens backup your mail (Mailbox Menu>Export Mailbox) and save the file somewhere you can find it, you probably don't need to hear this but you should be (have been) backing up regularly, for this and many other reasons.
I'll post back if I can find a solution to the issue.

  • Cannot send message (from mac mail) using the server iCloud

My Mac Mail send stopped working during a large number of mail sends yesterday.Could that be an issue? If so, what to do?
Message further reads - The sender address [email protected] was rejected by the server smtp.mail.me.com.
I deleted the account and set it up again, but still can't get the mail out. Same messages
If I go on to iCloud, mail send is working fine.
Can anyone see anything wrong or suggest what to do?
I've deleted the user name below for the screenshot.
    Thanks in anticipation.

There is no user name entered in your SMTP (advanced) preferences.

  • Sent message from Mac Mail work email shows my personal gmail account as Mail to: and account summary shows outgoing mail server as smtp.google while incoming shows imap.google

sent email from work through Mac Mail shows to the sender Mail to: (personal gmail). Account summary shows smtp.google on outgoing server and imap.google on incoming

Is there a way to add this automatically?
For a semi-permanent change, the Sending Server is named as "OutGoing Mail Server SMTP" on the Preference pane for each Mail Account.
To change its specifics, move the mouse cursor over it and choose "Edit SMTP Server List" from the drop-down Menu. Then choose the SMTP Server you wish to inspect/change and its information will be shown. If using similar ones for two different email accounts, change the description field, e.g., change "gmail" to "gmail (work)".

  • Read receipts in Mac mail.

I'll prefix this with the fact that I'm a total Macbook and Yosemite newb. As in I have not used a mac since 1992.
I thought I had found an article on how to send and receive read receipts in Mac mail, but after searching again, all I found was some obscure comments that read receipts were really not necessary, so it was not a big deal, and another article that showed how to create rules via the unix console...not really what I was looking for. I just was wondering if there is not a setting I am missing? Business people DO need, as a matter of doing business, require read receipts, for obvious reasons. If you are not in business or government this whole thread will be baffling and boring...sorry.
Finally , if not, will read receipts from gmail , show up in Mac mail if it is set up? ...or I would be just better to wash my hands of Mac mail, and use my Gmail, and if so, is there a way to do this...an extension perhaps, in Safari?
Thanks for any and all help.
    Dave.

    Rodolfo,
I guess you are missing my somewhat sarcastic sense of humour, and for that, I apologize.
Of course OS X can get viruses, malware and pesky adware. I was merely poking fun, at those, who are no so technically inclined, and tend to just "drink the koolaid" regardless of the established facts and body of evidence. I am acutely aware which operating systems are vulnerable and why. In my over 20 years of using computers for work and play, in my experience, UNIX has been the most secure...which is why it is the choice of governments' world-wide, and the least was WIN95-98. I had no virus' or malware at all with Win7...using MaCaffe, MalwareBytes, and SuperAdBlocker (which is a Chrome extension which seems to work fine on OS X) And no they did not slow down my machines (Norton did...very slow) Hackers find no challenge in writing for only 9% ( OS X )  of the units out there, as the 90% is a much bigger, and more lucrative target. It has nothing to do with the inherant inability for OS X to get viruses, malware or adware.
I am optimistic for the future of OS X, as it is slowly gathering steam, and garnering lots of attention from other platform users.
The biggest danger any any OS is smugness.

  • Ever since I enabled iMessage on my Mac Airbook, I can no longer receive text messages from the iMessage people on my iPhone, only on my iMessage now!!  How do I get the messages to reach both iMessage and iPhone??

Ever since I enabled iMessage on my Mac Airbook, I can no longer receive text messages from the iMessage people on my iPhone, only on my iMessage now!!  How do I get the messages to reach both iMessage and iPhone??

We are suffering very similar issues when communicating from my iphone to a friend who has both iphone and iPad enabled.
As long as I reply to an existing text chain, then it is visible on the target iphone.  If I SMS the phone number, it gets routed to the IPAD!!   And NO, I should not have to disable imessage when I want to send an SMS!!

The "always match my default message font" option in the Signature preferences from Mac Mail does not work if e-mail is received in other Mail Software. How can I make it work?

I found this plugin which solved pretty much all of my mail font rendering problems.  It is designed for Lion, so don't know whether it will work but thought I would offer it up.

  • If someone blocks me on iphone can i still receive text messages from the person that blocked me?

Im in a group chat with 5 people (including myself) and everybodys been just saying "oh you got the job?" and i just didnt receive any messages from her saying how was it....im just a little confused...DID she block me or??

The following from  http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2013/09/iphone-call-block-faq/  indicates there currently isn't a way:
I get my iMessages on my Mac. Are those blocked too?
Nope. There’s currently no way to block someone from iMessaging your Mac — the iPhone block feature seems to be tied to the physical device, not your SIM, and not your Apple ID or iCloud account. This also means that even if you’ve associated email information with a blocked contact, the iPhone won’t block their emails.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.)

  • Can't receive text messages from other iphone users but can receive them from non-iphone users

I had to recently reinstall mavericks to my MacBook and suddenly I haven't been able to receive text messages from iphone users on my iphone.  I can send them but not receive them.  Recently I was able to receive a text from an iphone user who turned off his imessages before he texted me.  That came through. Of course, this would be difficult to ask every iphone user i know to turn off imessages in order text me.  I've also tried to turn off my imessage on my macbook, iphone and ipad and still can't receive them.  Lastly, I've also tried resetting my networking settings and that didn't help either.  Any suggestions???

I am having the same problem minus the fact that I don't have a Mac computer I just can't receive any messages from iPhone users and I can't turn my iMessage back on at all it keeps just turning it off every time I try to turn it on. any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • I receive numerous messages in "Bulk Mail". Where do they come from and how can I prevent them from being received? Thanks

I receive numerous messages in "Bulk Mail". Where do they come from and how can I prevent them from being received? Thanks

Once you're on a spammer's list, there's nothing you can do to stop the flood of e-mail messages. You can either control it, using spam filtering (which is what files those messages in the Junk Mail folder), or you can throw out your e-mail address and get a new one.
It's sad, but spam is simply a fact of life at this point, and there's nothing to be done about it. Legislation has been tried, with zero success, since most spam either comes from countries with no legislation or from personal computers that have been infected with malware and are part of a "botnet."

What is the best antivirus software for a Macbook Pro...I recently received a message from Google that someone made an attempt to hack into my mail account and I needed to change my PW and verify myself as the user.  The message suggested that I run a virus scan to check for sny malware or other types of viruses.  I do not have any software for this and up until now have not had a problem....any help is appreciated.  I would like a simple but effective solution!

It's worth noting that if your Gmail has been hacked, it would likely have nothing to do with your MacBook.  Hacking web based email is fairly common and it doesn't require any access to your machine whatsoever.  In the same way that you can simply go to the Gmail webpage through any browser, any hacker can use the same method.  It doesn't mean your machine has been compromised in any way (and it has likely not been).  I have never received an email from Google of this nature.  I have received notifications when someone has attempted to create an account with my name in which they basically say that there is no action required if you're the rightful owner.

  • I cant receive text messages from iPhone users to my android phone
