IPhone record voice on iPod feature

Hi,
I am thinking of buying an iPhone. I want to record voice for podcasts using the iPod feature. Can I do this with the built in mic? or a plug in mic? or do I need to buy an iPod?

The iPods do not have a microphone at all.
I do not know what kind of quality you would get with the built in iPhone mic.
Probably would be better off buying something specifically designed for voice recording.

The reason I have an issue with this is that I'm always recording song ideas, melodies, and scratch takes; what I'm saying is when I come up with an idea I need to be able to know that when I hit record it will start right then so I don't forget anything that has just popped in my mind.
Does anyone have a solution or suggestion?

I can record voice memos fine using the built-in iPhone 4 mic. And my Bluetooth headset (Jawbone Era) works fine when I leave messages on voice mail systems etc. when calling on the iPhone 4. However, I cannot record voice memos with my Bluetooth mic.

I can also use voice activated dialing, although it fails miserably interpreting numbers. However, I cannot record voice memos with my Bluetooth mic. I just get barely audible static. Hello, did you ever get an answer to your question? I just picked up a Jawbone Era and using on an iPhone 4s running 5.0.1. Seems to work fine on regular calls, but not on the built in Voice memos application. It worked fine on my older Jawbone Icon, but haven't tested on the 4s or iOS 5.

Syncing Voice Memos
iTunes syncs voice memos to your iTunes library when you connect iPod touch to
your computer. This lets you listen to voice memos on your computer and provides a
backup if you delete them from iPod touch.
Voice memos are synced to the Voice Memos playlist. iTunes creates the playlist if it
doesn’t exist. When you sync voice memos to iTunes, they remain in the Voice Memos
app until you delete them. If you delete a voice memo on iPod touch, it isn’t deleted
from the Voice Memos playlist in iTunes. However, if you delete a voice memo from
iTunes, it is deleted from iPod touch the next time you sync with iTunes.
You can sync the iTunes Voice Memos playlist to the Music app on iPod touch using
the Music pane in iTunes.
Sync the Voice Memos playlist to iPod touch:
1 Connect iPod touch to your computer.
2 In iTunes, select iPod touch in the Devices list.
3 Select Music at the top of the screen.
4 Select the “Include voice memos” checkbox and click Apply.
Some users have said that they had to first create a blank Voice Memos playlist for the memos to be synced to the computer.

here is the only manufacturer so far thats announced one that you can actually see. I think it looks seemless and reliable but its a guess.

IPhone IPod feature out of control

I purchased my new iPhone only four days ago, and it worked fine until this morning. Now the iPod feature plays constantly, starts and stops on its own, and skips forward through music on its own. And while this is happening I can't even use the phone part of the iPhone because as soon as it dials it hangs up.
I've tried powering it off and rebooting it. I've tried this a number of times, but to no avail. Has any one else had such problems?
I've had this thing for only four days!

Mine starts to play when it feels like it and it pauses and restarts podcasts as I listen to them. I realized also that it starts to play songs when I do Safari searches! Very annoying. And, no, just restoring my iPhone has not solved the problem I've already done that twice.

Transferring a recording to a computer
Manually
Voice memos are saved in a Recordings folder on iPod in the WAV file format. If you enable iPod for disk use, you can drag voice memos from the folder to copy them.
Synchronize
If iPod is set to update songs automatically and you record voice memos, the voice memos are automatically downloaded to a playlist in iTunes when you connect iPod. Once downloaded, the voice memos are removed from the Voice Memos folder on your iPod. To play the voice memos that have been synchronized to your computer in iTunes, select the Voice Memos playlist on the left side of the iTunes window. To play the synchronized voice memos on the iPod, select the Voice Memos playlist in the Music menu, not the Voice Memos menu in the Extras menu.

My iPhone 4S (sprint) has stopped recording voice mail messages. The phone is 2 months old and it stopped about a month ago, but it took me several weeks to realize that there was a problem as I initially thought that callers just weren't leaving a message. I have now tried to leave myself voice messages and confirmed that it's showing up as a voice mail but failing to record it. Has anyone ever encountered this problem and if so, what is the fix?

No iPhone records voicemail messages. Visual voicemail is simply an interface to the carriers voicemail servers.
Contact the carrier to troubleshoot the issue with their voicemail.

Using iPod feature of iPhone with 2006 Subaru B9 Tribeca

Has anyone had success using the iPod feature on the phone with the B9 Tribeca? The 2006 5-seater model did not come with an auxiliary input, and FM transmitters are poor sound quality because of all the static. I am trying to find a product that does not need to be attached to the cars stereo system or installed in any other way because the car is a lease. Does anyone have any suggestions?
