IPhone remote app won't connect to my iTunes library

-Already seen this question, but for older versions and slightly different problems, so I'm asking it again, sorry
-running IOS 10.0.2 on iPhone 5, Mac OSX 10.6.8
-iTunes recognises my device but the option to type the 4 digit code doesn't come up, what do???
-home sharing doesn't work either :/

I've had a similar problem for weeks. 4s running 5.1.1 with latest iTunes on Windows 7. Remote asks to Turn on Home Sharing, which is already on. None of the lame troubleshooting suggestions made a difference.

  • Can't get Apple Remote App to stay connected to my ITunes library.

I recently had my modem and router taken out by lightening.  So I replaced them both with what is supposed to be the latest and greatest.  Simultaneously, Apple had a new version of ITunes, so I updated.  Now I can't get the Apple remote app to stay connected to ITunes.  If I start ITunes on my computer, my IPhone 5 will see and connect to the library, as well as my IPad.  But as soon as my IPhone or IPad goes to sleep and I try to reconnect to the library, it can't connect to the library.  I've never had any connection problems before and not sure what is causing the problem.  I can turn off Home Sharing in ITunes and turn it back on again, or restart ITunes and it works, but as soon as the IPhone or IPad goes to sleep, it won't reconnect again.  Is this a router issue or ITunes Home Sharing issue?  Any input to resolve this will be greatly appreciated..............because it is really annoying not to be able to control music the way I did before!  All products have the latest updates.

Take it back and exchange it.
If the remote doesn't work out of the box new then either remote is faulty or AppleTV is faulty (eg IR sensor not located properly in the case).
Either way one of them isn't working, exchange it.

  • Remote app won't connect to itunes (Iphone 5 & MBP)

I currently have a iPhone 5 and a MacBook Pro and am trying to connect them using the remote app (the latest version).  Both are running on the same wireless network.  I have gone through the troubleshooting items as found here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1741.
    I have tried:
    ---deleting the app & reinstalling
---turning on/off home sharing on both the Mac and iPhone
    ---resetting the router
    ---changing the router to WPA2
---turning on/off the Mac and iPhone
When I open the remote app, I can see my itunes library logo and I click on it to connect, but it then takes several seconds and then tells me "Remote can't connect to your iTunes library.  Check your network settings and try again."  I have also tried adding an itunes library with the passcode deal, and that does not work either.  I will type in the CORRECT passcode, but then it tells me its incorrect (what the heck?).  I will do it again, and this time it thinks for quite a while and then still tells me its incorrect.
This has been super frusterating, and knowledge about these issues seem to be scattered all over these forums.  Has anyone had success overcoming this issue by doing something else that I have not tried?

I have this same issue. I can connect to my AppleTV fine but not Itunes on my MAC. It has worked for me previously with my Windows PC but I cannot for the life of me get it to connect to Itunes running on my MacBook Air. I am running the latest software on all devices. Both are connected to the same network using an airport express. There has to be something wrong here.

  • Iphone remote won't connect to my iTunes library and tells me the passcode is incorrect

My iphone 5 previously worked with the Remote app to control streaming of music from my itunes library to my amp with Airplay capability.  Now it can't find my itunes library and when I go to the Settings for Remote app and try to add the library, it won't accept my passcode on itunes screen where it appears.  I deleted the app and re-added it to my iphone but it still won't work.  My Remote app still works on my Ipad so I'm a bit perplexed as to why it won't work on my iphone 5. Any suggestions?

    Hello dawgfaj,
Thank you for all the information you provided with the Remote app issue you are experiencing on your iPhone.  I found an article with steps you can take when the Remote app is not connecting to iTunes:

  • My Apple TV won't connect to my iTunes library on my windows pc home sharing is on and iTunes is open

I can't get my Apple TV to connect to my windows pc to play music through my iTunes apple remote has a similar problem

Thanks for the advice. Just had time to retest everything with the latest software and firmware versions. Even with Windows Firewall completely switched off my Apple TV can not connect to my iTunes library. The ironic thing is that my PC can no longer Airplay to my Apple TV after the latest updates, so things are actually getting worse ;-)
I even restarted my router as some posts seemed to indicate this fixed similar issues for others but sadly not for me.
I can at least still AirPlay from my iPad to my Apple TV, which is the main reason I bought the Apple TV, and the NetFlix client on the Apple TV is still one of the best as it supports captions.
I have seen another post from another Win7 64bit user with similar problems so not sure if there is a solution out there yet.
I also have some Samsung products and they can not interwork either so the grass is not greener on the other side ;-)

  • Remote app won't connect after using it and closing it

    Hello,
I currently have iTunes 11.1.3.8 installed on my computer which runs Windows 7. I am trying to get the remote app to work on my iPhone 4S running iOS 7.0.3.
I connect to the Remote App using the remote 4-digit code. Once I do this it works while I have the app opened. But, once I close the app or iTunes I am not able to reconnect and I have to enter the 4-digit code again. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks!

    THANKS!
I read that first article and think that we forgot to turn on Home Sharing on the iPod! I sent the link to them and hope it will solve the problem - will have to wait until they get back to me to see if that worked since they live pretty far from me...but I'm hopeful!
    Thanks, again!

  • Has the IOS update on my Ipod caused the Apple TV Remote App to have connection problems?

I recently updated the software on my IPod Touch and now the Apple TV Remote App won't connect to the Apple TV.  Home Sharing is turned on for both my computer and Ipod.  ITunes and the IPod have both been updated.  Is there an issue with the new software?

Did you update the OS on the Apple TV?
My iOS 7 devices work fine with my update Apple TV3

  • AppleTVs cannot connect to my iTunes library

This is baffling. Until a few days ago I had two Apple TVs getting content from the iTunes library on my Mac.
Now, whatever I do, the Apple TVs say 'Could not connect to Library' when I try and view my iTunes library.
This is happening on both Apple TVs. BUT it's not happening on my iPad on iPhone. I can still connect to my iTunes library stored on my MBP from each of those.
I can still Airplay to either ATV too - no problem there.
Everything is on the same network. I've signed out of Home Sharing on everything (MBP and ATVs). I've checked that iTunes is pointing at the correct location for my library (which it must be anyway because I can access it from the iPad and iPhone) and yet I simply cannot make either Apple TV connect.

Thanks Rudegear - close but no cigar.
I followed the instructions as per http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2709
Now: I can see my iTunes library via AppleTV, and access it via the remote control.
Now: I can use the Remote App on my iPad to access my iTunes library, and control the library on my PC but not on AppleTV
Still, when playing a song on iTunes - either directly on the PC or via the iPad, when I select the AppleTV speakers - nothing.  When I select 'multiple' speakers I don't get anything through the AppleTV speakers.
The AppleTV is connected to a Denon AVR (if this matters).
Thanks again - open to other pointers.

  • I can't connect to my iTunes library on my Macbook Pro using the Apple Remote app on my iPhone 4S. Why?

    Hi all,
I've been looking through the forums for help with this problem. There are a couple of threads with similar problems, but no solved threads and the discussion doesn't seem to go anywhere... As far as I can tell, it's been causing a lot of annoyance for many users, including myself, but it looks like the community's in the dark about why it's happening!
I'm trying to connect to my iTunes library using the Apple Remote app on my new iPhone 4S. As you may know, there are two ways to do this:
Connect via Home Sharing by setting up Home Sharing on both iTunes and the iPhone, or
Connecting directly to iTunes using a four digit passcode.
I've tried both methods, and neither work!
Here's what happens for each method:
From the Remote app start screen, I tap the "Turn on Home Sharing" button. I enter my Apple ID details (which are definitely correct), and get a confirmation message on my phone saying "Home Sharing is on using [my email address]. To control iTunes: Choose Turn On Home Sharing from the Advanced menu in iTunes on your computer." I then go to iTunes, turn on Home Sharing, enter my Apple ID again and get a confirmation message saying "Home Sharing is now on", etc. However, there's no connection formed between my iPhone and my Macbook Pro - the Remote app just shows a message saying "Turn on Home Sharing in iTunes on your computer or on Apple TV using the account [my email address].
From the Remote app start screen, I tap "Add an iTunes Library", and the four digit passcode is shown on my phone. I select the new "Quintin's iPhone" item that appears in the iTunes sidebar under "Devices", and enter the passcode on the screen that appears. Once I've entered it, I get a confirmation message saying "Your Remote is now able to control iTunes" with an "Okay" button. Clicking the "Okay" button makes the screen and the sidebar item disappear completely. On my phone, a message that says "Looking for ..." is shown on the screen with a spinning loading wheel, but nothing happens. After a minute or two, it stops and simply says "Could not find".
After trying both methods, I went through all of the troubleshooting steps here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1741 . Absolutely no effect.
I should mention that I was experiencing similar problems on my old iPhone 3Gs with an older version of iTunes. I thought it might have been some kind of hardware fault and expected it to clear up once I got the new phone, but the problem is still there. It's a new phone, a new computer, a newer version an iTunes... even a different network I'm trying to connect to it on. Bizarre!
I've even tried using the Mobile Air Mouse remote application instead. However again, the Mobile Air Mouse app on my phone can't pick up the Mobile Air Mouse server on my Mac.
I'm kind of at the end of my rope here. Anyone?

I have the exact same problem trying to use the Remote app on both my iPhone 3gs and iPad 2 with either my Mac or ATV2.  My Remote app used to work on my phone - I can't recall if I ever actually used it with my iPad, but when I tried today, I got all the same results as you did (on both iPad, and then iPhone).  I  was using my ATV2 to play music from iTunes on my Mac and wanted to use the Remote app, but it would not connect to either device no matter what I did.

  • My iPhone 5 won't let me use my apps until I connect them with iTunes after downloading ios7. Solutions?

My iPhone 5 won't let me use my apps until I connect them with iTunes after downloading ios7.  There's just a thing that pops up and says that in order to activate banners and push notifications I have to connect the app with iTunes. The thing won't go away no matter how many times I push ok, and it doesn't give me another option. Solutions?

Oh my gosh I had the EXACT same problem, and for ages I couldn't figure out how to fix it until today. Here's what I did:
First I went onto my computer, opened itunes, and un-installed tumblr, vine and kik. These were the apps I was having problems with (it said I had them on my phone but, like you, they didn't show).
Then I went to the itunes store, searched for each one, and it said I could update them so I did (just FYI: for tumblr a window popped up saying "please click ok to confirm you are 17 years or older", so I did that also)
When I went back to my phone and tried installing them again (still on my computer), it worked!
I hope this helps, because it was incredibly frustrating. Good luck!

  • Remote app on iPad connects to iTunes but then loses connection.

    Hi,
Basically, I can get the app on my  iPad to connect to iTunes, but if I then start doing something else on my iPad, or my computer goes to sleep, then the remote won't connect again. Even if I wake my macbook and try to connect it again.
If I press 'add an iTunes library' in the remote app, nothing appears on iTunes.
To solve the problem, I have to restart my computer.
I just checked to see if my iPhone connects and it worked straight away. Maybe its a problem with my iPad?
    Can anyone suggest anything?
    Oscar

I too have this problem and made it worse. Under Mavericks and iOS7 everything set up very easily and worked beautifully like Apple stuff usually does. Then a couple of weeks ago I took the dive and updated to Yosemite, iTunes 12 and iOS8 and then I would occasionally lose connection with my iTunes library as described by the second poster. Very aggravating. So I made a bigger mistake and deleted the library from my iPad Remote app and whenever I started it up again it would say 'Add a device'. I clicked and a randomly generated 4 digit number appears with the exact instructions: 'To add an iTunes library, open iTunes on your computer and choose Remote from the tab bar'. I went to iTunes and searched EVERYWHERE for this Remote tab bar and could not find it. I then went to iTunes Preferences: Devices and clicked the button 'Forget All Remotes' thinking this may reset something in iTunes and make the Remote tab appear somehow to start from scratch. Wrong! Now there is absolutely no connection between the Remote app on my devices and iTunes on my computer.
Can anyone point me to this Remote tab in iTunes?? If I can find that then I think I should be able to fix this.
Geez, talk about effing up what should be (and was) a very simple app.

Remote App on iPad connects but drops after about  20 mins. Need to turn  off wait about 1 minute, then turn on wifi on iMac before it can reconnect. Need some help please.
Already gone through troubleshooting guide a zillion times. Thanks.

This worked for me... A little time consuming but once you get rolling it goes GREAT... Thanks....
I got my artwork and saved it to my Desktop
Opened up Microsoft Paint and clicked on "File" and "Open" and found it to get it on the screen to resize it
Clicked "resize" and a box for changing it opened up
Checked the box "Pixels" and "Unchecked maintain aspect ratio"
Set Horizontal for 640 and Vertical for 480
Clicked on "OK" and went back to "File" and did a "Save As" and chose JPEG Picture
It came up "File Already Existed" and clicked "OK" (really did not care about the original artwork I found because wrong size)
Went to iTunes and on the movie right clicked on "Get Info", clicked on "Details", then "Artwork"
Go to the little box on the top left that shows your old artwork and click on it to get the little blue border to appear around it and hit "Delete" to make it gone
Click on "Add Artwork" and find it where you put the one from above on your Desktop and hit "Open" and OK and your new artwork is now there and all good.
Sounds like a lot of steps to follow but after around 5 or so you will fly through it. This worked perfect on my iPhone 6 Plus and I have artwork on my Home Videos now.

Okay I have a Linksys Wirless Router, my Laptop and iphone connect to the linksys via wireless using WPA, the wireless works great, I get my iphone hooked to the wireless network .. check stocks, weather, google around.. all that works !
I use my Remote App on my iphone and sweet that works too ... connects to my library shows my playlist on itunes .. my linksys goes into a frenzy ... If i leave the remote app alone .. my linksys would run just fine forever ... 3 - 4 minutes into using my iphone remote app and my wireless networks toast ... anyone here having the same issue ?
I have a airport express that I plan to use as my default wireless router (replacing my linksys) to see if apples own wirless router has this problem as well ..
I sure hope not ... will keep posted .. but let me know if anyone is experiencing the same problem and if there is a fix ...

    Hi,
Since I upgraded the Remote software to version 1.3.3 (4) it seems that when I'm browsing the music Library of my Apple TV, I can click on any artist and or album. So far so good, but after selecting, the tracktitle is shown on top of the screen, but the track is not loaded and cannot be played.
If I unplug my Apple TV then it works again, but after browsing and changing tracks 1 or 2 times, the bug occurs again.
Martijn I've read your the post and tried to delete the songs/artists that have the word 'Edit' in it, re-synchronized the apple TV with my iTunes Library, but no luck for me.

  • HT3819 I can use remote on my iPhone to connect with my iTunes library, but i can't connect to another computer using home sharing to access apple tv.  I have used the same access ID and password that is used for the apple tv.

I can use the Remote app on my iphone to connect with my itunes library on my computer, but I can't connect to the Apple TV using home sharing with another computer in the house.  I am using the same ID and password that the apple tv uses to connect with the other computer.  Also how do I check what version of IOS that my iphone is using?

    Version:
iOS Settings>General About (or it'll say when you hook it up to iTunes)
Are all the devices on the same physical network?  I think you're saying all are set up using the same home sharing credentials.
If you've not done so restart all devices and your router.
If you can get any of the devices connected by ethernet to reduce the wifi burden that may help but to be honest I would not expect simply beoing on wifi to prevent devices/computers appearing in the list.
Does the other computer have any firewall or port blocking software running?

  • Iphone remote app and itunes

All seemed to be going well until - the updates.
Now my iphone will not recognize my itunes libraries. I deleted the library link from the iPhone remote app and even told itunes to forget all remotes. Back to my iphone to set up as a remote - again. The iphone generates the 4 digit code, itunes even recognizes the iphone, allows me to enter the code, and returns the screen that I can now start using the iphone as a remote. --- Back to the iphone - and the remote app can "find the library" - What gives? Help
    <edited by host>

Revelation, do you mean complete restore of the iPhone and all contents thereof? Or the Mac?
I have deleted the application "Remote" from the iPhone, and I have re-installed it. Each time the application will work for a limited time, and then it loses the ability to locate the library.
I continue to suspect IP addresses as the source of the problem, and wonder if the addresses must be static on both devices in order for them to maintain a connection. However, I find it odd that iTunes can register the presence of the iPhone enough to list it in the "devices" pane (therefore, I assume that the two devices are communicating over my network) but then the iPhone fails to locate the iTunes library.
Other applications (Briefcase Lite, for example) seem to be able to conduct over-the-network business without difficulty.
