IPhone reset under iOS 6

I don't know if this has been mentioned yet but I have noticed that resetting the iPhone under iOS 6 has changed slightly. The red slider is no longer displayed while holding Sleep/Wake + Home. It's not mentioned at Apple's page for the procedure here either (maybe it wasn't, even in the past, I don't really know)

Update!! I called Apple support and a fantastic young lady solved the problem for me. She had me reset my iphone by holding down the HOME button and the POWER button at the same time until the Apple Logo displayed. Then I released both buttons and waited about 1 1/2 minutes for the iphone to reboot. I took the phone out to my car and plugged it in. Launched MUSIC. Selected the DOCK connector, selected USB on the Lexus screen and everything worked like it should.

No, I'm not geekish enough to even know what a JBed 4 is, nor whether it is firmware or (as I suspect) software. My iPhone is bog standard, and I finally threw caution to the winds and fixed the problem by restoring the device... it took 3 hours, but at least it restored while I slept.
And if you look around, it isn't that rare a bug (people often confuse assertions with knowledge on the internet!). Anecdotally, I know a lot of people who have experienced all sorts of different problems upgrading to iOS 6.1, and the web has quite a few examples out there. Maybe a frustrated response is indeed pathetic (after all, I can't control any new software releases, can I?), but I resent software developers deciding like little demigods what people need... mostly the reason for an upgrade is to sell something to you, and when they don't work, it ticks me off. And in the meantime all the app developers have to become "compliant", so I have a lot more meaningless "upgrades" to look forward to... there are some strange power dynamics here!
I did, when I finally fixed the problem, get a bonus though: with the new OS, you can delete individual tracks from the music app... many people had been complaining about that a lot, and the weird thing is that Apple didn't even advertise it as one of the new features (just that you could "record individual tracks", which I never had any problems with). That particular functionality disappeared with the arrival of iOS6, and is a real nuisance when you have a lot of music on the Cloud.
Thanks for your comments though, even if you made a completely unwarranted assumption about my configuration.

Yes, apologies - 2 physical taps. My home button is a bit worn out so that didn't work the first few times. Even so - why not put the camera icon up by default, like the slideshow button in the iPad? Or, if you're making people perform a custom action to get it anyway (i.e. the double tap) why not make that go straight to the camera? Seems like unnecessary complexity.

Ipad gets slow and needs power reset on IOS 6

iPad 2 connection to internet gets slow for all apps (spinning forever), but get back to normal after a power reset under IOS 6.

If this doesn't resolve it you most likely have a hardware failure. Fortunately, your phone is in warranty, so if you take it to an Apple store they will replace it.

Unfortunately on these days I'm in a country that Apple don't have any retail store here and for sake of time I prefer to fix it myself to DHL it to the nearest country to use its warranty. I couldn't find the edit button on my original post so I am posting an update here.
I have gone through more apps and have had good luck on all but one more. And it's not that the app doesn't work, I am talking about the Yahoo Weather app, It works fine, but when you swipe between cities the screen lags a bit and it sometimes doesn't move between pages the way it should. On iOS 7.1.2 it was smooth as butter but on iOS 8.0, not so much. I will post a note in the app store to let them know. I really like the Yahoo app better than the new stock app.
I have been going through my games and they all work fine. Angry Birds (Original and Stella), Canabalt, Minecraft, Bejeweled 2, Silly Walks, PopWords, Doodle Jump, Deep Green all seem to work just fine.
Starbucks app works as it should.
I will stop back again next week after I have had the weekend to play with it in detail and post my thoughts again.

I searched a lot and maybe found a part of the reason for this high data traffic.
I'm synchronizing my contacts, calendar & reminder with iCloud & my mail with Hotmail.
When push is activated for Hotmail, that doesn't matter, but when push is activated for iCloud, the amount of data nearly explodes. So I turned iCloud to manual and let Hotmail on push.
Contacts, calendar & reminder are synchronizing when opened (I think this is enough).
Also I do a backup on iCloud and than I deactivate the function (I do not delete the last backup, I only deactivate the option for automatic backup).
It seems, that the backup functionality also generates traffic when not on WiFi - especially at night!!
The battery life has been getting better, when I deactivated the support for automatic time zone changes (location services were always on).
The battery finaly got MUCH BETTER since the update on iOS 5.0.1.
My traffic is actually higher than on iOS 4 but not so high as before I deactivated some services...

No, restoring the phone will install the latest iOS version.
If you go to Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings, the phone will revert to its fresh out of the box state, but iOS will not be reloaded - you'll still have iOS 6. See if the problem is fixed, and if it is, load your data back manually.

if your computer is not recognizing it, try using a different USB port or different usb cable. if that doesnt work you will need to uninstall and reinstall itunes.
