Iphone resets, my whole network via airport!?!

I recently noticed that sometimes, my iphone 3g resets my network connection, on my MBP...?
it has been happening occasionally, for example: When syncing or updating I will remove the sim, and my macbook pro will lose its wireless connection for a second and my network hello message pops up...
What is the deal here? It has never been jailbroken, I have all up to date software.
I am not sure what is going on here, but it is not ok...
Bluetooth is off. everything else is set to default.
Why would this be happening? I have an airport extreme N with ethernet ports, but the computer is running wirelessly, WPA2, Full bars.
IT IS DEFINITELY THE IPHONE causing it, I can easily replicate it...
Is this some kind of bad bug, or feature to try to stop unauthorized tethering(which I have not done or tried) or what? Please help.

I am also running a airport extreme and have no problems with the network dropping when syncing my iPhone 3G.
A network hello message sounds like fun, how did you do that ??
Sorry I can't help.

  • MBP no longer connects to network via Airport

today my MBP will not connect to my network via airport. Several other apple devices connect to the network no problem. MBP connects to the network OK via ethernet cable.
When I try to connect it just keep prompting for network password  & user password, generates spinning wheel but then returns invalid password dialogue box. Tried several times and no success - occasionally there is an additional dialogue box " Apple80211agent......."
Pass word is fine as 5 other devices connect without any issue. What is going on?
Incidentally, just thought to create another Airport connection and hey presto it connects.
    Still confused.

Your local LAN runs through your router.
All your ethernet  ports, and your modem and router, should be behind and filtered from excess current. That means a UPS generally. And run input line thru UPS (coax) first, then run RJ45 back through UPS again (there can still be excess surge or current on the line).
Modems and routers can be compromised by surge outage or storm. So can ethernet  ports.
You have two ethernet ports and you tried with both also.
What you did not do that I would have added is SMC Reset / Reset NVRAM/PRAM.
This is what I have had for the last year, very nice and stronger  signals thruout the house.

Trying to get my Viera TX-P42S30B hooked up to my home network via Airport express with no luck.
Have tried both wired (network cable) and wireless to no avail, can't find much info online, any help appreciated !
    Airport utility 5.5.3
    Airport Extreme 802.11n
    Airport Express 802.11g

The problem is that the AirPort Express (AX) is creating a subnet.
To prevent that, configure the AX to act as a bridge (so that it is NOT sharing a single IP address).

  • Extending network via airport extreme N non dual band and airport expresses

I have experimented with this a lot because I have 3 expresses and an extreme, one express is wired to my extreme in bridged G mode so my iphone can access my network of macs and the rest are running in N 2.4ghz joined to the extreme network as apposed to extending the network. It seemed to me that the 5ghz is much faster but has very poor range about half the range of the N so I run the network in 2.4ghz. Oddly the express I have bridged running in G mode seems to have more range than the N network. Whenever I tried to extend the network with an express in N 2.4ghz my performance went down and I could not really notice any difference in range. Perhaps this has changed with firmware updates of late so I am going to play with them some more. A side note is that when the express is in join mode to my extremes N 2.4 ghz network I can stream full HD video 1080i and 5.1 sound to my other macs. So when my MBP is hooked up to my AV
setup I can stream Eyetv recordings around the house. But when I extend the network the playback is choppy. It seems when you extend the data rate takes a dive. The odd thing to me is that it seems that the N network does not have any more range that the G express if not even a little less range. My extreme and bridged express are in the same place in my house and if I go outside on my deck there is no N and there is a little G and again if I extend the N network with an express it seems to make almost no difference in range and the transfer speeds seems to drop.
Any thoughts on how to improved N speed / range in extend mode would be appreciated.

The ethernet port is active with this settting, (assuming you enable it in AirPort Utility) which can be a plus in some installations, but I see no improvement in the "breadth" of the wireless network using the "Join" setting, at least when comparing it to the "extend" setting. Is this correct?
The AXn's feature to join a wireless network & have its Ethernet port enabled, as you already know, is known as ProxySTA.
Although a convenient feature indeed, it's not stellar as far as maximum bandwidth goes. As an example, the following would be typical "real life" throughput values (for the AXn's 2.4 GHz radio) based on the AXn's configuration:
    o Router: Wired-to-wireless: 85 Mbps
o WDS: Wireless-to-wireless: 33-39 Mbps (Note: Extended would be closer to the Router value)
    o ProxySTA: Wireless-to-wired: 26-35 Mbps
Unfortunately, ProxySTA is the "worst" of the bunch.
I have to believe that a lot of the confusion between "join" and "extend" is occurring because the "extend" option is not available in the auto setup using AirPort Utility. Aren't there a lot of users out there configured to "Join" when they think they are "extending"?
No doubt the "Manual Setup" function of the AirPort Utility still needs a bit of improvement as it does tend to confuse folks. Similar, would be the differences between "Extend" & a "WDS" as both are types of WDS.

  • When I connect imac to network via airport all devices on the network lose internet connectivity

Every device stays connected to the network but the internet stops working. Usually the network will continue to function normally for about five minutes when the imac connects, but then every device loses internet access via the network, NOT just the imac. As soon as I turn off the imac's airport they get internet connectivity back. A wired network connection to the imac seems to work OK.
The airport is configured as "Using DHCP"
    Mac OS X 10.6.8
As far as I know, no changes have been made to the computer recently (but it is not my machine and the owner isn't here atm)
I found one other resource with the same problem here:
    http://www.mac-forums.com/forums/internet-networking-wireless/183185-turning-my- macbook-airport-breaks-internet-connection-entire-network.html
but the solution didn't work. When I deleted the three files mentioned in the solution in that thread, my problem is not solved.
If you have any ideas or need more information I would love to hear from you.
    Thanks guys.

Yes it is possible that the two machines are creating a Computer-to-Computer network and are not going through the Express.

  • 10.4.5 - mac mini can't connect to network via airport since upgrade

I've been experiencing problems since upgrading to 10.4.3. Mainly, I've noticed that I can't easily connect to our wireless home network all the time. The pattern has been that I start by shutting down my computer completely. When I start up it again, it can't connect to the network. I have to create a new profile and then it will connect. That was buggy, but at least I found a hack. However, since upgrading to 10.4.5, I can't connect to our home network at all. The Internet Connect application says that I am connected to the base station, however I can't connect to the outside world via a shell, browser or email application. Our network is secured with a WEP and the base station is a D-Link. I searched the forums for some tips, but didn't find anything. Pointers appreciated.

Be very careful about the sequence you do it. You must make sure that the airport connection is turned off (i.e. the airport menu icon looks more like a profiled eyeball without the iris than a series of lines like the towers of hanoi). Then create a new location in the Airport network preference, and make sure that these settings are there under Options
    1. Keep looking for recent networks
    2. Automatically add new networks to the preferred network list.
    3. Change the status of Enable interference robustness.
And by default, join preferred networks in the Airport location.

  • Sharing network via Airport, can browse but no mail, smtp or pop3

I have the G5 connected via ethernet to the router box they gave me, fine mail and browsing are super duper, So now I have the Laptop G4 (Both on 10.4.7)
On the G5 I crated a network and enabled internet sharing in system prefs using Airport (No airport base stations, just the computer to computer) On the G4 I joined the network, and could not get to any web sites, Ahhh Little Snitch! So I turned off little snitch on the G5 and low and behold the G4 now has splendid access with safari, I am actually on the G4 penning this. But I want to use only the G4 to send and receive mails (The G4 is with me all the time, and the mails get so far out of sync) But the .mac and my 4 pop3 mail boxes all time out. Is it possible to access mail through the shared connection? Thanks Jed

I don't know if you have solved your problem but I think I can help you. I will keep it simple because you seem to know what is plotting.
    1. On your G4 laptop, open your system prefs and go to 'Sharing',
    2. Now, click on the 'Firewall' tab. To your right, click on the button labeled 'New'.
    3. On the sheet displayed, the first dropdown list is pre-sellected as 'CVS', sellect it end change it to 'Other'.
3.1. Now your fields will activate for input. In the field labeled 'TCP Port Number', type '110' (this is the default port number for POP and POP3).
3.2. In the last field labeled 'Description', type your own descroption like 'POP3 port for G4' (just an idea). Save your settings by pressing the 'OK' button.
You should now be ready to retrieve your messages using your chosen mail app.
Follow the same instructions as above to open a SMTP port, but this time type '25' in the field labeled 'TCP Port Number'.
Give it a meaningfull name like 'SMTP port for G4' (yet another idea). And that is it!
Hope it was helpfull. Kind regards.

  • Connecting to existing home network via Airport Express

I had my Macbook Pro connected to our home router which allowed me access to our home network and the internet. On this network we had connected both my MBP and my flatmates PC (which is connected directly to the router via network cable).
Through this configuration i was able to both access the internet AND access files on the PC. I have recently purchased and airport express to eliminate the need for the network cord. Since setting up the AE i have been able to connect to the internet no problem by creating a wireless network and using all the automatic settings, however in the process i have lost my ability to connect to the home network and my flatmates computer. In fact, under "networks" in finder the home network has disappeared. Also in network prefences i am getting a warning saying "The cable for Ethernet is not plugged in".
Is anyone able to tell me what im doing wrong?
    thanks ....

  • Can't network via Airport Extreme

    Hello,
Just bought an AEBS today. The setup seemed to go well; I can print and surf the web wirelessly from the iBook now.
My only problem is I can't figure out how to establish a network between the two computers. The G5 doesn't have an airport card, it is wired via ethernet, and for that reason I can't use network preferences to do what the Help topic tells me: "Click AirPort and make sure the "Allow this computer to create networks" checkbox is selected."
Thanks in advance for the help...

Giant, Welcome to the discussion area!
Assuming that your connection is like this:
    Internet-> [WAN] AEBS [LAN]--> G5
All you need to do is enable File Sharing on the iBook. Then the G5 should be able to see and access the iBook.
If you want to see the G5 from the iBook, enable File Sharing on the G5.

  • Can my iPhone print to printers connected via Airport Extreme?

    Hey forum,
So I know this thread has been brought up more than a few times, but I feel like either new information could have been found or Apple has initatied some sort of change to allow it. The basic scenario is that in two households (one my own, the other a relative) housing a Time Capsule and Airport Extreme Base Station, each with a printer connected via USB. Things work perfectly on my iMac, MBP, and Windows machines but my iPhone won't print because of the Airprint shenanigans that I don't understand. Essentially, can I print from my iPhone now without any hacks or third party apps?
    Thanks!
    Ethan
Used products include: iPhone 3Gs (iOS 5.0.1), iPhone 4 (iOS 5.0.1), MacBook Pro 2.16 Core 2 (Mac OS X 10.7.2), iMac (Mac OS X 10.7.2)

Air print is for Air print enabled printers only.
There are some wifi printers that have there own app that allow you to print to them, but onlt limited apps will be supported by this.

  • External hard drive networked via AirPort Extreme gives "The operation can't be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code -50)" roughly every two days

My lab has about 10 Mac computers.  We all access a central hard drive by the way of wifi provided by AirPort.  It's just a regular external hard drive (Seagate Desktop Drive) that I turned into our central storage space by plugging it into AirPort (USB).  It works pretty well.  We seem to be fine with viewing the file directories, opening files, saving, deleting etc., for a day or two.  But then after a day or two, when when trying to modify files or move new files onto the central hard drive, we get the error message: "The operation can’t be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code -50)"
Any suggestions as to what may be causing this problem?
All of the computers are 2011 iMacs & MacPros.  The AirPort is 802.11n WiFi.  The hard drive is a Seagate USB 3.0 Desktop Drive.
    Thank you for your insight/suggestions.

Thanks for your reply.  I agree about the communication issue. Let me explain my setup and what I am trying to do and perhaps you can answer my questions or make suggestions.
I have a MAC Mini with a Sony TV for the video monitor.  The  Mac Mini is hard wired to the AE (Airport Extreme).  The AE has a 2 TB HD hooked up to the USB Port.  I have a 17" Mac Book Pro on the WIFI Network.
I am trying to use the MAc Mini as a "Media Server" of sorts.  Once I get iTunes running the way I plan I am goign to hook up my Apple TV (2nd Generation) to my television downstairs.
What I am trying to accomplish is have iTunes on all my computers look to the External HD on the AE for the files.  This is why I am having my (-50 errors).
So far I have noticed that if I go and try to download from iTunes purchased videos that are not ont he computer (to the external HD) it will also occassionaly give me teh -50 error.
Is there a way to change where the files go when I download them?  Say I want to download videos to the computer but not to the external HD?  However I would want to still be able to move them to the External HD.

  • Connecting to local network via Airport?

    Hi!
How to set up the MacBook to reach computers on a local network, wirelessly?
I have 4 computers on my local network. 3 macs, 1 pc.
Set up is: Zyxel Prestige 2602R and a SonicWall wireless firewall.
2 macs and the pc are connected to the router via cables.
    The MacBook is running wireless.
Everything is fine connecting to the internet. But there is no conectivity
to and from the MacBook, unless I connect it via a cable.
    What am I overlooking?
    JanD

Check that you have sharing on all your computers set up. Also on your macbook you will need to set up sharing also. This is done under your system preferences window.
You can connect to your other network computers in finder. Click network in the left finder pane and if they are set to share correctly you should see them come up. Just connect to them and a connection should show up in the left finder pane.

  • Printer not recognised on network via Airport Express

I have recently purchased a Canon MP630 and installed all the drivers etc onto my Mac. I can print from it easily from my Mac via a USB connection. However, Im hoping to connect it to my Airport Express via the USB. I have done that, but the printer isnt being recognised and I cant print.
Can someone explain what to do, to fix this problem.
    Thanks

HP Jetdirect is what Apple calls IP printing to port 9100. It's a standard protocol which your printer supports. We often recommend it because it uses a specific port (9100) rather than using a queue name. Using a device-specific queue name is required in the "standards" documents for LPR and IPP (yes I realize OS X claims that a blank gives a default queue name).
    In short - try it.

  • Trouble printing to Epson Workforce 435 via airport express network

We have an Epson Workforce 435 printer that connects wirelessly to our home network via Airport Express.  After we switched to AT&T, we could no longer print from our Windows 7 PC connected to the network via Airport as well.  Our Macbook air works just fine.  The printer's network status sheet says it is connected, but it's like our computer can't find it on the network.  Can't ping the printer's IP address either.

Okay, I have checked the settings on the AX - it is set up to be 802.11b/g compatible, so that doesn't appear to be the problem.
I had a friend come over with her macbook - she was able to detect the wireless network, but wasn't able to connect to it, even when I gave her the password. Does this help diagnose the problem?
Here is additional information about how the AX is currently configured:
In the Airport tab in AirPort Utility:
Wireless Mode: Create a wireless network
    Radio Mode: 802.11b (802.11b/g compatible)
    Channel: 1
    Wireless security: WEP
MAC Address Access Control: Not Enabled
In the Internet tab in Airport Utility:
    Connect using: Ethernet
    Configure IPv4: Using DHCP
    Ethernet WAN port: Automatic
    Connection sharing: Off (Bridge mode)
I have tried turning wireless security off, but that didn't help the problem. I have also tried turning MAC Address Access Control to Timed Access, inputted the MAC address of the printer, and gave it permission to access the network all day, everyday, but this didn't work either. I have looked at changing the connection sharing settings, but I don't really understand what I'm doing here, so I am reluctant to mess with things much. This seems like the most promising potential solution?
    Thanks!
