IPhone restarts when charging?

I just got my iphone 4 a few days ago and every time I plug it into my computer or into an outlet with the wall charger it restarts. I get the temperature warning screen, then the phone restarts. Before the apple logo comes up there is a low battery sign in the screen. About 10 seconds later, the low battery sign goes away, the phone starts up, then about 10 seconds after that I get another temperature warning followed by another reboot.
Does anyone know what could be causing this? My apartment is around 50-60 degrees F so temperature doesn't seem to be an issue and I've already tried multiple cables. Another thing is that I tried doing a restore on the phone. When the phone was in restore mode and was still connected to my computer it was fine. No restarts, which makes me thing it's a software issue. I called Apple support and they had no idea why it was happening. I would like to take it into an Apple store but I won't be able to in the near future.
Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this? Or hopefully any ideas on how to fix it? I can't even set it up on itunes because it keeps rebooting. Syncing music or movies is out of the question.
Thanks

If you cannot restart, reset or restore, then you will have to take it to an Apple Store or call Apple support to arrange for and exchange.

  • Why does iPhone beep when charging

My iPhone continues to beep when charging....can anyone tell me how to stop the beeping

When you say "beep" you mean the sound it makes right after you plug it in? If so, you might have a faulty cable or USB port, so your iPhone will beep everytime it gets disconnected and reconnected to the computer. If it's not that, try to describe the sound. Is it similar to what other sounds on iPhone system?

  • IPhone restarting when watching Rented iTunes movies!

As the title of the thread says, my iPhone restarts whenever I try and watch Rented iTunes movies on it.
And it is just rented movies that cause the issue, if I rip a DVD and convert to iPhone friendly it plays all the way through quite happily. But with the rented ones, they play for about 7 mins before the iphone restarts.
Has anyone else had this problem?

have you taken any troubleshooting steps? (reset, restore, resync....etc).
mine was restarting itself randomly in ANY application. even after a restore (as a new phone), it did it as i was redoing all my settings. long story short, my phone was ultimately replaced by apple.

  • My iPhone restarts when I try to open my photos app, how do I fix this

Please help!!! Every time I try and open my photos app my screen turns green and restarts, how do ifix this? I tried turning off and on what can I do?

    Hello Hbyars33,
Thank you for providing the details of the issue you are experiencing with the Photos app on your iPhone.
I recommend following these steps for an issue like the one you described (you can skip 4 because it does not relate to the issue you are experiencing and any other steps you may have taken):
If a single application is not responding or stops responding when it opens, you can force it to close.
If the device is unresponsive or if certain controls aren't working as expected, restart your device.
If the device remains unresponsive or does not turn on (or power on),reset your device.
If there is no video or if the screen remains black, verify that the device has enough charge to turn on:
If you are using an iPad, ensure that it's connected to the USB Power Adapter supplied with the device.
Let charge for at least twenty minutes, then see if it starts normally.
If there is no image on the screen, press the Sleep/Wake button to attempt to wake the device.
If the screen displays a red battery icon, continue charging the device until the battery is fully charged.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, or the if the screen remains black or shows a persistent Apple logo, try restoring with iTunes:
Connect the device to your computer and open iTunes.
If the device appears in iTunes, select and click Restore on the Summary pane. Learn more about restoring iOS software.
If the device doesn't appear in iTunes, try to force the device into recovery mode, and then restore it.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, contact Apple.
You can find the full article here:

If you get to step 5, I recommend backing up your iPhone before performing the restore:

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Do I have to eject my Iphone 5 when charging via USB?

I know pulling my older shuffle out of the dock (without using eject button) can create a need for a reset, but can I just unplug my Iphone 5 without using the powering on the monitor and hunting down the eject button after I have been simply charging?
A step further, if I actually sync'd the Iphone to add media and I know the sync is long done, do I still have to power on my display and hunt down that eject button?
Just trying to establish proper habits for the daily future use.  Thanks for any replies.

Well, I know it couldn't hurt (properly ejecting) but I am looking for a definitive answer of "yes" I have to do this and this is why.  Thanks for your answer, but powering on my display (HDTV) takes 30 seconds and doing this twice a day for two years will really take the life out of the display when I might not need to.  Not trying to be argumentative, just want to find something more official and couldn't find it on the site.  Thank You

  • IPhone Hot when charging

I have the first generation iPhone 8GB, and have been using it for less than a year. I recently noticed that the iPhone gets really hot when it's charging, especially with my car charger. I'm not sure if it's the result of the heat, the upper left corner of the screen appears a little brighter than the rest of the screen. It's barely noticeable, but I am wondering if there is something I can do other than to complain to Apple? Perhaps reset something?
I am currently running iPhone software 2.0, but it was getting hot with both 1.1.4 and 2.0.

Getting warm to hot while charging may be normal. Once charged there should be no more current flow and it should be normal temp.
I've always been a bit wary of car chargers, though, since the voltage they see can vary quite bit; good ones deal with that issue but some may not.
Does it get hot on your wall charger? If not you might want to find a new car charger.

  • IPhone Restarts When Receiving a Text from Android

A person I know has started sending me text messages with characters my iPhone 5 can't read (or that's what I think is happening). Whenever I get these texts my phone restarts once for each text I receive. The exact same thing happens to my friend who has a 4S. Then whenever I hit the Messages app it crashes immediately. I can only reply to texts if I hit the notification when I receive one from a different person.
The way I've found to fix this is to use Siri to send a message to someone but hit the actual message, it loads up the different chats and I can delete the entire thing. Then he'll send another. Without paying $4 a month to block the number, how can I prevent this from happening? It's that string of arabic letters that completey screws over the phone.

May just be something in her contact info (corrupt contact picture or something) that causes code to lock up.
I would suggest deleting contact from phone.
Then delete contact from your address book on computer you sync with.
Then add contact back to computer fresh.
Then sync to get it back on phone.
Then reset any settings for that contact (ringtone etc).
Also note if her contact is the only one that uses a custom ringtone you may have, it could also be the ringtone.
Note, I am just guessing on this stuff but would be a logical course of action to take to determine.

  • IPhone restarts when I hit the "S" key

I'm not sure if this is the proper forum for this, but I don't see any place other than this forum and "Installing and Using iPhone Applications" to put this question, so here goes.
I have an iPhone 3G which is working fine except for one problem. Every now and then when I try to start an app that doesn't display its icon and begins with "S", my phone crashes and automatically reboots/restarts. It takes about 5 minutes to complete the restart this way, whereas it takes about 2 - 3 minutes on a normal startup.
This only started happening recently, and it doesn't happen every time. I've removed all the apps beginning with "S" that don't display their icons on the main menu screens and which I downloaded after this problem started occurring. It's still happening but not as often.
I've been able to find alternate keywords for all but one of my apps that don't display their icons and begin with "S", so I can work around the problem. But I'd like to get this resolved if possible. I'll probably have to bring the phone into an Apple store but I was wondering if this rings a bell with anyone here.

Hey, anything's possible. But like I said, I've found workarounds for all but one app. And if I can't figure it out by this weekend I'll take it to the local Apple store and see if they can figure it out.

  • Red light appears over my iphone speaker when charging.

i accidentally washed my phone. So i decided to do the rice treatment.and now when i put it on the charger a red light appears over my speaker. Also when i try to hard reset my phone the red light just flashes. Then after a while the light just goes away.

That's the proximity sensor. It's not supposed to do that.
Make an appointment at the genius bar and get the phone replaced. it's no longer safe to use it.
