IPhone, Safari and Secure Sites

Hi,
Can anyone tell me whether the web browser on the iPhone will be able to handle browsing and using secure sites e.g.
doing banking online
pucharding items from online stores ...
Thank you,
E

I have had zero issues using my bank on iPhone and I use WAMU
I have not tried to purchase anything yet using iPhone. But I am sure it should still work unless the website needed to install some sort of special secure certificate or plugin that would prevent further access to some areas.

some sites that use flash (or other issues) dont want you trying to view the site in your browser on an ios device, because they know it will not be a good experience - they detect your device, and if it is an ios device  they want you to use their app instead of your browser.

  • Updated Safari and Security 2008.. Operating system won't start.

HELP! I downloaded Safari and Security 2008 updates July 1st 2008 and it froze the system. I left it for 24 hours, now I reset and all I got is a white screen, folder with a question mark in it. I tried booting from the install discs but it won't do it. I also tried to verify/restore permissions and I ran first aid/repair disc but it says there are errors. It says "invalid node structure volume check failed" "error the underlying task reported failure on exit". "1HFS volume checked" "1 volume could not be repaired because of an error". No kidding, Apple destroyed my OS!
    Help?

Hello Utahmedic and Welcome to Apple Discussions ...
Usually a folder with a question mark indicates your Mac doesn't know which disk to boot from. When you say you booted from your install disks, can you please tell us exactly what you did? In order to boot from a restore disk you have to first, shut down your Mac. Now, hold down the C key, insert the restore disk and press the Power Button all at the same time. Hopefully you'll see the Apple logo on the Desktop, this can take a few minutes depending on the size of the drive. This will boot from the restore disk. An Installer window will open. Ignore that and instead go to Utilities/Startup Manager in the Menu. When that window opens select MacintoshHD 10.4.x in the panel on the left. Then click Restart...
I'm hoping you could do this. You have to run Disk Utility from your restore disk not the Disk Utility app that resides on the hard drive in the Application/ Utility folder.
If Disk Utility can't fix the errors on the volume you might consider purchasing DiskWarrior from www.alsoft.com. It does a great job of repairing disk errors.
Also, while you have Disk Utility launched with MacintoshHD selected in the panel on the left, look down on the right side of the window where it says:
Capacity and Availability. Make sure you have a minimum of 15% free disk space at all times... more if possible.

  • Safari and secure connections

    Hi all
My MacBook has quite literally in the last few minutes developed an issue which I thought was long dead. It won't connect to secure sites. I couldn't even post this message using Safari as I couldn't log in!
Has anyone had this on Tiger? Fixed it? Really could do without this problem!

    Well guys
After rebooting 4 times but making no changes of any kind... it's now accessing secure sites, although very slowly. At the moment this computer appears to be going through some kind of episode, simple things aren't working properly or going very slowly.
For example, Apple+w to close a windows on everything... bar a finder window lol
I'm beginning to think the unthinkable... a reinstall of OS X! Behaviour appears to be more erratic over the last few hours after I ran a software update and installed a fair bit updates as it hasn't been updated in a while.
    Oh well.

  • Safari and secure connection issues

Today I started receiving errors when I try to log-in to secure web sites such as e-mail or password protected sites like "My eBay". Before I can get to the log-in page I get a drop down screen reading
Safari can’t open the page “https://login.yahoo.com/config/login_verify2?.partner=sbc&.done=http%3a//sbc.yah oo.com/” because it couldn’t establish a secure connection to the server “login.yahoo.com”.
It has now spread to iTunes and I cannot purchase songs.
I have run keychain first aid in the Access keychain program.
I downloaded the latest security update a couple of days ago. Wondering if it screwed up anything. anybody got any ideas?

  • My browser window and secure sites state I have an outdated version of Firefox though the 'about firefox' states its version 8....whats going on and how do I fix?

When I open the browser window (with Google as the homepage) this message is there..."URGENT!
Your version of Firefox is no longer protected against online attacks.
Get the upgrade - it’s fast and free! "...I have upgraded several times using the link but the warning continues.
When I am in sites like Paypal this warning is stated "Update your browser: It looks like you're using an older browser that may have security issues. Help protect your account. "
When I follow the HELP prompts to assess my current version in 'About Firefox' in the help menu it states that Firefox is up to date and 8.

  • Nvidia Firewall and Secure Sites

    Dear All,
I am hoping someone can help me.... I have Googled for answers and searched this board but not found answers!
One reason I bought my Neo Platinum was for the hardware firewall, which on the whole seems to be great... apart from the fact I cannot connect to my online bank when any setting other than OFF is enabled. Basically my browser hangs and times out.
I have read that a number of other people have this problem and also a number of people DON'T have this problem! Sites which I cannot access include:
    www.postbank.nl
    www.americanexpress.com
    www.nettavisen.no
I have tried copying the OFF profile with the view to enabling things systematically to discover which setting prevents the site from loading, but even a copy of OFF doesn't load anything...
After my last Google, I downloaded the Beta 6.11 with the updated Firewall, which adds application control, and set rules for my Java plug-in as others thought that it was due to this, but despite having the same settings as others I still can't access the sites listed above.
I also used the wizards to allow secure HTTP traffic, but that hasn't solved my problem!
Please, if you can access these sites with Nvidia's Firewall switched on, would you post details of your Nvidia Firewall settings so that I can check mine?!
Failing that, if you could post any links that may help me I would be very grateful... I cannot find very much information regarding the Firewall on t'internet.... Other than the Administrators Guide .pdf document....
    Many Thanks,
    fM

    Thanks Shanks!
Have looked at that, and read through the admin user guide, but most of it means nothing to me!
I want someone to tell me... I'm too lazy, I know
To anyone else having this problem.... I think the answer is to open Port 443 (an absolute requirement in order to use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) I will check later and post back....)

  • Iphone apps and security

When the Apple evaluates an application for inclusion in the App Store, is security one of the things they look at? Specifically, I have personal and private data on my iPhone that I would certainly not want a third party application looking at and then sending it to some server on the internet without even being aware of it (I think they call that theft). Is that something Apple checks before allowing a third party application into the App Store?
    Thanks,
    Rob

Yes, App store submissions by developers (be they new products or updates to existing products) are screened.
You can read some info here - http://www.apple.com/hotnews/apple-answers-fcc-questions/
To quote part of that link's text:
"Apple provides explicit language in its agreement with iPhone developers regarding prohibited categories of applications, for example:
“Applications may be rejected if they contain content or materials of any kind (text, graphics, images, photographs, sounds, etc.) that in Apple’s reasonable judgment may be found objectionable, for example, materials that may be considered obscene, pornographic, or defamatory; and
Applications must not contain any malware, malicious or harmful code, program, or other internal component (e.g. computer viruses, trojan horses, ‘backdoors’) which could damage, destroy, or adversely affect other software, firmware, hardware, data, systems, services, or networks.”
And we also provide a reference library that can be accessed by members of the iPhone Developer Program that lists helpful information such as Best Practices and How To Get Started."

  • Safari and UPSP site

Does anyone know why the USPS "Click and Ship" and Safari don't mix? For that matter, why any MAc Browsers don't work on the USPS web site? I emailed them for an explanation (because they say they ARE compatible with Macs).
Our tax dollars at work (not)!
    Antonio

Actually, they say they do. Here's the info from their site:
Is the shipping label application compatible with Macintosh computers?
You can print a shipping label with Click-N-Ship® if you are using a Macintosh computer with OS 10.x or higher. If you’re using Internet Explorer or Safari you will need to take an additional step. Initally, your file will download to your hard drive and load into the "PDF viewer (or Apple Viewer)" application. Next, because this application does not support printing the label, you must open the PDF file on your hard drive using Adobe Reader Version 7.0 or higher
Of course, they later go on to say:
What should I do if my labels don't print when I have a Mac Version 10.4X?
If you are on a Mac Version 10.4, your Safari Browser will not work at this time due to a technical issue with Adobe V 7.0. Please use Internet Explorer. Make sure your file association is Adobe Reader and not Apple Preview.
They also put some blame on the Mac here:
I printed a label on my Mac, but it did not have a barcode. What should I do?
If a label prints without a barcode, please destroy the label and request a refund online. This is generally caused by a file association problem with Mac OS X. For Mac OSX, the default view for PDF documents is Preview instead of Adobe Acrobat Reader. To choose Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat as the default viewer, follow these steps:
1-Select any PDF file and press the "Apple" key and the letter "l" on your keyboard.
2-Select OPEN With from the Information Page.
    3-Select Adobe Acrobat Reader.
4-Click Change ALL and then click Continue.
The funny thing is that when I do this "Click and "Ship" through the Pay Pal site, it has been working just fine (shipping things through Ebay).
Please, everyone, email the Post Office and ask them to fix this. Email them here:
    [email protected]
    Thanks,

  • Lion Parental Controls and secure sites

This is driving me and my son mad. Since "upgrading" to Lion from SL every time he visits a site that uses https an alert box appears saying it needs to be added to Parental Controls, or you click OK to continue. Is there any way to return to the SL way of doing things?
    Thanks in advance.

Nobody? Looks like we are stuck with this then. Nice one Apple, why can't you leave stuff alone if it works?

  • Iphone Safari and Facebook

When I view walls on Facebook using Safari, they are blank, I'm not able to see any postings. I am able to view them if I use an app like Journey to log into Facebook, but Safari is my preference. I saw on a Facebook other people are having this issue, but not much help there in resolving the issue.

I am finding the same, all the current postings are missing in the middle of my facebook page via Facebook.
I use this as i can claim all the varying Farmwille, Petville items etc, something the App does not let you do! The app gives you a watered down version of Facebook where many elements are missing!

  • Safari Not Allowing Secure Site

I updated my Mac Software to OSX 10.4 this morning and I've been noticing some issues with Safari 2.
The main issue is it won't let me open pages that require a secure authentication (for example it wouldn't allow me to access to login page for the Apple forums -- I'm here with Firefox now). It brings up a page that says cannot open page.
I've also tried it with my bank and credit card and get the same response.
Any idea what's the problem here?

You're welcome. Glad you got this sorted out. The anchor keychains are critical for accessing in Safari any secured site.
Regarding 10.4.6, the most stable version of OS X is either 10.4.9 or 10.4.10 Also, these two versions contain the latest security upgrades for Safari.
Download access for 10.4.9 may be found here. As with the previous post's recommendation about 10.4.10, important to "repair permissions" etc. if installing. Also, do not use the computer during the installation phase.

  • Start up problems after Safari 3.1 and Security update

Updated safari and security update last night.
Safari downloaded and installed but there was an error downloading or installing the security update, I forgot.
After I restarted everything booted up fine, but was stuck on "Starting Mac OS X" screen.
Did a fsck and zap the pram, still stuck.
Today I tried booting up in safe mode, stuck on the gray screen with the apple logo.
Then I tried booting up from an external firewire dvd drive. Repaired permissions, repaired the disk, but it is still stuck on "Starting Mac OS X" screen. Help please...
    Thank you

Ok i had a similar problem, with all the recent updates for Leopard, including the 10.5.2 combo update... the 12" PowerBook G4 kept getting stuck on the grey apple and spinning wheel... if it managed to get past this it would get stuck on the blue screen!!!
The way i got around this, after trying all these other tips was: Archived & Installed 10.5; restarted, waited; downloaded 10.5.2 Combo update, installed; restarted, waited; waited; waited; after getting back to desktop, restarted, waited; then ran Software Update only installing one at a time, and after each install, restarted, waited; when all Software updates completed, proceeded with iLife updates etc... It took a while (still quicker than the 3 days of failed installs and updates) with a lot of waiting on the blue screen (5-20mins) but we got there in the end. Disks where checked with Leopard Disk Utility before and after, permissions where checked before and after completing all installs, also with a DW 4.1 optimization. Also note worthy is the RAM was upgraded from the initial 256Mb (!!!) with an extra Gb.
