IPhone Safari doesn't open links in new page

Under iPhone Safari Settings, I've got it set to Open Links In New Page, but when I click on links in Safari, that doesn't happen. When I set it to Open Links In Background, that doesn't happen either. Links open in the same page no matter what the setting.
Anyone know how this can be fixed? Thanks.
(iPhone 4S running IO5)

It depends on the website. Some websites have it set up to take you to a new tab, some do it in the same tab.

  • Ctrl + left click doesn't open links in new tabs although I don't have Tabmix addon

In a previous thread, this question has been answered as related to Tab Mix Plus and resolved as "Disabled extension Tab Mix Plus 0.3.8.6, now ctrl + left click opens links in new tabs"
However, I don't have Tab Mix installed at all. I have Tab Utilities 1.1.5. Probably that one interfers with the behaviour.
Is there a way to resolve this without giving up Tab Utilities or is there any other good tab utility addon that doesn't prevent Ctrl + left click?
This behaviour appeared after updating Firefox. Thus, I don't agree to consider it just a problem of addons but rather Firefox itself! I don't want to give up Tab Utilities until standard Firefox settings cover all (or at least most) of the functions it offers.
Thank you for any ideas and suggestions.

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information.
Note: ''This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.''
To Reset Firefox do the following:
#Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
    #Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
#Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

  • Clicking on document link opens Safari, but Safari doesn't open link

For some time -- even before upgrading to OS10.8 -- I've been having an issue with Safari. I receive links in emails or other documents, click on them, and when Safari opens, it fails to load the link. Sometimes I see the URL appear in the address bar for a moment, but it vanishes and I am left with a blank "Untitled" Safari page. If I then click on the email (or other) reference link again -- now with Safari open -- everything works fine. I've not seen this reported as a problem by anyone else so am wondering if I have a software conflict. There are two programs running from within Safari, one is 1Password (although that requires a manually entered password to open) and the other is Norton Identity. Perhaps one of those is a culprit. Anyone else seen this behavior?

More than likley, Norton is the culprit. Norton software has caused so many Mac users problems over a long period of time.
Results from an Apple Support Communities search for Norton > Community Search: Apple Support Communities
Follow the instructions at the Symantec/Norton site for uninstalling Norton Identity.
As for one 1Password. Using the pre installed Apple native Keychain Access utility is much better to use than third party. Keychain Access is located in HD > Applications > Utilities.
Remove Norton Identidy first, restart your Mac and try opening a link from email to test.

  • URL iView doesn't open link in new window

    Hi All,
I'm have an URL iView that I want to display in the portal content area but whenever the user clicks on a hyperlink on that iView launch a new window for the link.
I've tried using the 'Open iView links in new window' without any success. Is this supposed to work or this property is for another purpose...? Can someone point me to a solution.
    Thanks

    Hi Detlev,
I checked what you said. I've already looked at that page but didn't saw that important disclaimer. My problem was that I didn't had a captured area-URL iView but a full page-URL iView as it says:
+These properties are relevant in the following instances only:
§         The iView content is displayed in its source format. The rendering type must be defined as Keep Source Formatting. See Defining the Look and Feel of the iView Content.
§         The iView content displays a captured area, and not the entire Web page. See Selecting the Capture Area.+
I only had to change the 'Open iView links in new window' to Yes after capturing a part of my page and it started working.
    Thanks for sharing

  • Safari open link in new page

I like to open pages in a new page so I use this a lot.
When I then click on the previous page that was opened, sometimes the page just opens to where it was before, which is the way it should.
However, often when I click on that previous page the page opens by refreshing itself and does not go back to the point it was at previously.
Is there a trick to placing the finger at a certain point on the previous thumbnail page, or am I just expecting the behavior to work that way and it does not?

The self-refreshing of Safari web pages has been discussed her before and nobody know of any resolution except maybe switching browsers.

"Develop" menu will appear in the Safari menu bar.
Click Develop and select "Empty Caches" from the dropdown.
    2. Quit Safari if open.
Option click the "Go" menu in the Finder menu bar.
        Select "Library" and then "Caches".
        Look for the folder 'com.apple.Safari"

But for a further page in a web : where has the " target="_blank" title= to be putt in?
    For example : http://picasaweb.google.nl/piet.flour/Opa90Jaar080907DifferentLook
    should that be :

It always happen when browsing Apple Discussions, whenever i click next to see the next page of posts, this thing happens. Anyone seen that before ? How to fix it? Thanks for all of your suggestions.

  • Safari will freezes opening links in new tabs or windows

I've noticed that Safari will briefly freeze when opening a link in either a new tab or a new window or when a page is set to automaticly reload after a set time while there are other tabs or windows opened. It does this on all web sites.
I took a look at everything I could think of, including permissions, used DiskWarrior & Drive Genius to repair, defrag and rebuild directories on my drive, and used Cocktail to clean out all caches nightly. I also have no add-ons installed other than the Flash Player 9 Beta 3 plug-in (but I was having this problem before installing the player). I haven't touched Fontbook (I use Suitcase Fusion). I also know it's not an internet connection speed issue since I have a 15mbps fiber connection coming into my home. I also tested out using Firefox and did not have the problem there.
    Anybody have any other ideas?

  • Safari open link in new tab is gone

-.the short menu adressing open link in new tab is not at all appearing , at present i m using on keyboard options

i tried setting preferences , updated software ,
but nothing works. .can anyone help me plz

Check Safari / Preferences then select the Extensions tab. If you have any installed, turn that off, quit then relaunch Safari to test.
And try troubleshooting the Safari .plist file  (preferences)
    Quit Safari.
Open a Finder window. Select your Home Folder in the Sidebar on the left. It has a small house icon. Then open the Library folder then the Preferences folder. Move the com.apple.Safari.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Desktop.
Relaunch Safari. If that made a difference, move that .plist file to the Trash. If not, move the .plist file back to the Preferences folder.
And try resetting Safari. From the menu bar click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 7 buttons, click Reset.

  • Links to files doesn't open in a new window

I've noticed that links (that refers to a specific file) created in Adobe Indesign doesn't open in a new window like the links that refers to a website when I autoconverts it in Acrobat Pro X.
    Example:
LINK1: http://www.acrobat.com/testfile.pdf <--- does not open in a new window when clicked
LINK2: http://www.acrobat.com/testfolder <--- opens in a new window when clicked
Are there any way to fix this?
Will the same problem occur if I create the links in Acrobat instead?
I'm asking this because I don't want the form to disappear when the links are clicked.
    Best,
    Mikey

Firefox should divert the new window to a new tab when you check this box in Google's Search Settings:
"Open search results in a new browser window"
I can't think of any reason for Firefox to divert a new window back into ''the same tab''.
In case one of your add-ons is the culprit, could you try Firefox's Safe Mode?
First, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Backing+up+your+information Backing up your information]. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)
Next, restart Firefox using Help>Restart with Add-ons Disabled. Don't check any of the boxes in the [https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode Safe Mode] dialog, just Continue in Safe Mode.
    Does it make any difference?

  • Safari wont let me open links in new tabs anymore? Please help!?

On my Macbook, I'm using Safari as my browser.
Everything was fine until this morning; suddenly Safari will not give me the option of opening links from one page in another tab in the same window.
For example, if I'm browsing on EBay and want to open a search result in a new tab of the same window, usually when I would right click on my track pad or magic mouse, it would say "Open link in new tab" or "Open link in new window". However, now when I right click, it just says, "Open link" "Open link in new window" and "Copy link".
I haven't changed any settings or anything on my Macbook whatsoever in the last 3 hours (at least that I'm aware of). Can anyone please tell me how to get this back to normal?
Also, it seems that when I right click anywhere on a page, I only see the options "back" and "reload" whereas before there was "view source" etc.
    Please help!
    xx0

    Hi,
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache. When you are done with that...
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset.
Go here for trouble shooting 3rd party plugins or input managers which might be causing the problem. Safari: Add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues
Since you are running Snow Leopard, *make sure Safari is opening in 32-bit mode, not 64*. Right or control click the Safari icon in the Applications folder, then click: Get Info In the Get Info window click the black disclosure triangle next to General so it faces down. Select 32 bit mode. Also, (in that same window) *make sure Safari is NOT running in Rosetta.*

Web pages now include a small icon or 'favicon' which is visible in the address bar and next to bookmarks. These icons take up disk space and slow Safari down. It is possible to erase the icons from your computer and start fresh. *To delete Safari's icon cache using the Finder, open your user folder, navigate to ~/Library/Safari/ and move this file "webpageIcons.db to the Trash.*
If Safari still won't let you open links in new tabs, go to the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari/Preferences. Make note of all the preferences under each tab. Quit Safari. Now go to ~/Library/Preferences and move this file com.apple.safari.plist to the Desktop. Relaunch Safari. If it's a successful launch, then that .plist file needs to be moved to the Trash.
If your forum profile is correct (10.6.1) go to the Apple Menu/Software Updates ...
Very important to keep your system software up to date.
If you install the 10.6.3 update make sure and repair disk permissions.
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

  • Open Link In New Tab In Safari

From a PC World article, http://www.pcworld.com/article/166903/ , "Safari now uses tabbed browsing, like big boys do on the desktops, and this new hidden feature is great. If you tap and hold on a hyperlink (hyperlinked text) on a Web site within Safari, a dialog will prompt you to open this link, copy it (link locations) or open it in a new page (which opens a new tab in Safari)."
I get the same result whether I pick Open or Open in a New Page. Any one get this to work?

Works for me. If I press and hold a link I get three options.
    1. Open
    2. Open in New Page
    3. Copy which copies the URL to the clipboard. (I love this!)
Not really a tab of course but it does open a separate page.

  • "Open Link in New Tab" Crashes Safari

    Hey gang-
Just upgraded to Leopard 10.5.7 from 10.5.6. The latest version of Safari 3.2.3 is included. I notice that if I right-click any link and choose ""Open Link in New Tab", Safari crashes. Anyone else running into this with the new Safari?
    Thanks!
    Dave

Ahhh I found the issue. Had to update to the latest PithHelmet. Normally PithHelmet is good about popping up an alert if updates are needed for new versions of Safari, but not this time. Anyhow, installed new version and all is well!
    Thanks!
