IPhone Safari resetting itself to Never Accept Cookies

Every few days my iPhone's Safari app preferences reset themselves to Never Accept Cookies, which keeps me from being able to log into my secure sites.  I am not part of a corporate mail exchange program.  I am just a person with an iPhone who wants to use Safari to accept cookies from sites I've visited.  Can you help me get this glitch fixed?

My iPhone does have an Exchange account from work, but I really doubt our network admin has set any kind of iPhone profile (he's a BlackBerry guy). How would I check for that, in Exchange System Manager somewhere? I'm a sysadmin so I have the ability to go in and view group policy, etc.
I noticed the cookie setting seems to change sometimes after doing a wifi sync with iTunes. Just to be sure, I checked the cookie settings in Safari on my Mac and they didn't match, so I don't think there's an overwrite happening there.
Very strange. Usually my Apple products "just work", but in this case it's an oddity.

  • Even after setting system preferences to Never accept cookies and having deleted all cookies, Safari continues to add cookies.  I've tried to reset safari but the problem persists.  How can make safari Never accept cookies.

I'm having a problem with cookies on Safari.
Even after setting system preferences to Never accept cookies and having deleted all cookies, Safari continues to add cookies.  I've tried to Reseting Safari several time but the problem persists.  This is occurring under two different user logins one of whom is an administrator the other a standard user.  How can I get safari to Never accept cookies?  This is a recent problem because in the past it used to work properly. Any idea what might be going on here?

    Hi David:
I did read (yesterday in another thread) about a similar problem.  I cannot test it myself as I accept cookies (from sites I visit) and do not want to delete all of mine for a test.
I do not know whether it meets your requirements, but you could turn on private browsing.  I use that (or Microsoft's variant on IE) when I use public computers.

  • Why did Safari suddenly start "never" accepting cookies?!?

Two days ago, Safari suddenly by default is set to "never" accept cookies whenever I load safari. I always have it set to the cookies setting "Only from sites I visit". Every time I use Safari now, I have to manually change it back from "never" to "Only from sites I visit".
I've deleted the plist file and cache. What else can I do to fix this?

I've deleted the plist file and cache.
If you are referring to the com.apple.Safari.plist file try this instead...
Open a Finder window. Select your Home folder in the Sidebar on the left then open the LIbrary folder then the Cookies folder.
Move the Cookies.plist file from the Cookies folder to the Trash.
Restart your Mac. Launch Safari. Go to the Preferences / Security pane. Make sure Only from sites I visit is selected.
    See if it will stay.
if not, check Safari / Preferences - Extensions. Could be an Extension over riding your Cookies preferences. If you have any Extensions installed, turn that off, see if it makes a difference.

  • Clicking to never accept cookies does not work.

I hate cookies and I've been playing with the security options in safari and even when I put to never accept cookies most cookies still come through. Even site i did not visit in that session. What is going on?

    Mac OS X 10.7.1, Safari 5.1 (German)
I also didn´t understand what´s the cookies setting is for, cause I thought it doesn´t change the behaviour of Safari. After emptiing the cookies, the are still back after a few minutes, even if you say "never accept" (or something else, I use the German version).
The APlle-Hotline explained to me this:
There are different kind of cookies. Some are used from the websites and read by them, some are only used by safari to manage the stored information in the cache, even it is disabled. It should work like this (I have to translate it into English and hope it looks similar in the English version):
    - Always block:
Cookies are stored but are not able to send any information to the website. Also a lot of websites doesn´t work correctly, for example the login on Apple
    - Never block: Accept everysthing and allow the website to send information.
    - Block cookies from third parties and advertisement-websites:
Something in between: Allow the websites you visit to send information.
In every case, the Cookies-List will fill very fast. But I hope that untruthful websites only get the information if you chosse "never block".
My solution: Use "block cookies from third parties...", use "resetting Safari" every time you login into Google, Facebook etc. and make sure to check the box "delete all website-data" in the window which appears.

I upgraded my iphone to os 7 two days ago. However, now it cant accept cookies at all. I have set field 'block cookies' to never or from third parties. I have cleared history and cookies, then reboot my iphone. I have tries to force close all applications. Still, cant accept cookies. Please help...

Make sure you have the latest iTunes version installed and hopefully you have the most recent backup of your iPhone.  Do a DFU restore.  While it's plugged in to your computer, press and hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons together until the screen is off.  When the screen's off, release only the Sleep/Wake button and keep holding down the Home button.  Wait until you see in iTunes on your computer to show that it detected it in recovery mode.  When it does, proceed with the restore.  It will be restored and updated to the latest iOS 7.0.2.  If you have a backup, restore from that backup once iOS 7.0.2 is successfully installed on your iPhone.
If your iPhone still won't activate, I agree with gail, you will have to get in touch with that developer.

  • IPhone 5 reset itself and half of my photostream got deleted!

Im so gutted, I forgot my passlock for my iPhone and it reset itself and I had over 350 photos on photostream and when i re-activated the photostream i only have 111 for some reason. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You should store verything on your computer.  Have you failed to do this?
If so, then you can redownload some itunes purchases in some countries.

  • Iphone 4S Resetting itself?

Two nights ago my iphone reset itself. I didn't lose anything, but it reset everything back to factory settings. My volume was reset, siri, as well as getting popups on how to use certain things on an iphone. It was like pulling it out of the box. Is there a virius or should I reset it back to factory settings then re-add everything? This is the first it's ever happened.

    Hello Duckweed,
The resource below will explain what to do if your iPhone keeps restarting.  Was your iPhone set to automatically sync with iCloud? If so, you may have a fairly recent backup to fall back on if a restore is needed.

  • IPhone Safari launches itself after unlocking screen

This started happening recently. Ive noticed after using safari and putting the device to sleep after waking it and unlocking the screen safari launches. When it went to sleep safari was not running, and I'm pretty sure it wasn't even in the list of recently used apps. On top of it, all the tabs I previously had opened are missing as well.
Ive cleared safari cookies, history etc... Completed a hard reset, cleaned the screen, everything I can think of short of restoring factory defaults. This is also happening to a family members iPhone as well. 4S and 4 respectively.
Anyone else seen this odd behavior?

  • Iphone 4S resets itself every few min - the battery drains in an hr.

My iphone 4S is resetting every few minutes as a result the battery drains in an hour.
By resetting I  mean, the lock screen would show up, then the apple sign would come up like when you start your iphone, searches for the network etc. This happens every few minute even when the phone is on standby or when I am using it. If I am on the call, then the call gets disconnected because the phone is resetting.
The usage always shows "-" for both Usage and Standby with the message that the usage time will be shown after iphone is fully charged.
This started only a month ago when my phone was not on the latest os version. But now it is on the latest but the problem never did go away. It never fell out of my hand or fall into water and is barely a year old (just 10/15 days over the warranty period).
    Please help!

And I should mention that I took the foll steps so far:
    1. Let the battery drain out completely and charge it overnight
    2. Backed the phone, then reset the phone and restored from backup.
    3. Took it to the apple store and they did a different kind of restore but no luck
The only thing left for me to try to is to reset it to factory setting unless some one can suggest some other way.

  • Iphone 5 reset itself for no reason.

I am encountering reset issue for no reason. The Iphone 5 just reset and restart itself ? No sure why. Need help her.
Firstly, I thought it is the apps issue but when I try to recreate it by doing the last action before it reset , everything is ok.
    Thanks.

I had my 3GS do that once.  Provided all is still OK with your phone then there should be no problem

  • IPhone 6 reset itself after visiting web page

When browsing the Internet, an annoying pop up came up which I clicked on by accident. It was of adult nature and after about 3 seconds of that page loading, my phone turned itself off.
Should I be concerned about this?
Phone seems to be fine, I just hate the thought of some dodgy hacker retrieving my information from these annoying websites.
    Thanks

Any chance you installed a Solaris patch that required a reboot but failed to restart the machine? Some Solaris patches update both the kernel and libraries, and failing to reboot after installing such patches can result in mysterious failures.
Apart from that, I don't know what could be going wrong. If you want to try debugging the problem on your own, you could inspect the core file. Otherwise, you should probably call tech support.

  • How can I get Safari 5.0.5 to stop accepting cookies?

I have, since time immemorial, set my Safari preferences to never accept cookies.  That partially broke starting with Safari 4.x.  In Safari 5.0.5 it simply accepts all cookies and ignores the setting of "never" in preferences.  I've tried changing it away from, then back to this setting without success.  Is there any way to restore this functionality?

I am one of the many people who have come to these discussions in the last weeks in the hopes of finding an answer to this cookies problem. Yesterday I talked to an Apple phone advisor who told me these forums exist for Apple users to assist each other -- and that Apple personnel don't regularly monitor them. He said he was unaware of the problem, didn't advise using the "Report Bugs to Apple" option in Safari but to go to this link
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/safari.html
and report the problem. I did. I don't know if anything is being done about it or not. But perhaps if more people who are having this problem would use the link it might make someone take notice.
    Worth a try.

  • Marked preferences for accepting cookies "never"  but they still show up later in the log as being accepted.

Although I marked in Safari preferences to never accept cookies,  when I check back later ("never" still checked) the log indicates Safari has been accepting cookies.  Am I missing something?

Reinstall the 10.6.8 v.1.1 COMBO update, which will reinstall Safari 5.0.5. See if the problem persists. If not, don't update to 5.1. If so, create a new admin user account, log into it, and see if it persists.

  • My iBook is reseting itself

I started up my iBook G4 one morning and my documents and programs were still there, but none of my settings were there and my programs had been reseted, I lost all my iPhoto pictures, iTunes stuff, aim settings, etc. Then even hour or so, safari resets itself again, and I lose my bookmarks and everything. What do I do?

Your short name is the same name as the folder with the house icon by default. If you're unsure which of the other home folders was originally yours, look for folders which have the standard folder icon but don't have a red circle in the lower right. If you find one named Shared, it's not your original home folder, but is intended for files which need to be available to all user accounts. Look in any other folder matching the criteria for your user data.
