  • Iphone screen black but phone is ON

i dropped my iphone about 3 hours ago and it landed screen-down, but it was not shattered. everything on the phone works however i can't see anything - the screen is COMPLETELY black. i tried resetting it by pressing the home and power buttons at the same time, and it has not worked. since the phone is entirely functional except for the screen, i can hear when i get a text, etc. when i tried restarting it, I knew it worked because it made a sound when it came back on and was charging, therefore the only issue is the screen. what can I do? thank you!

You broke your phone when you dropped it.
Bring it and $149 to Apple for an out of warranty exchange.

  • HT1222 my iphone 4s screen black but phone is working what should i do now

    Hi krishna706,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If your iPhone is working but the screen is dark, try these steps next:
While connected to the iPhone charger, try to reset the iPhone.
Try to restore your phone and set it up as new.

dont you know your apple ID password ?
IF you know that, try restart your iPhone if it doesnt work try restoring your device. If it doesnt work again, you have hardware problem. Try changing your screen.

  • How do i fix my itouch. the screen is black but it still responds to touch

How do i fix my itouch. the screen is black but it still responds to touch

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.

  • Screen black but phone appears to work

screen black but phone appears to work

Is it always black, or only when you are on a call? If it is only on a call remove your case and screen protector (if any), as one of them is blocking the proximity sensor. If it is black all the time you probably have a hardware issue, but you can try rebooting - hold the HOME and SLEEP buttons at the same time until an Apple logo appears. If nothing at all happens after 30 seconds of holding your phone is broken.

  • Screen is black but phone still working

my iphone 4s has a black screen but is still working

Can the problem be fixed? Yeah. Put phone in trash, purchase replacement.
Can the phone be fixed? Only until it has been opened and components checked for water damage so the extent of the same is ascertained. However, since such damage is not covered by warranty, Apple will probably offer a replacement since they do not repair them. At cost.
    Good luck at the Store.
When the problem gets fixed, you may consider that a waterproof case is cheaper than what this incident cost you.

  • Help! Dropped phone, screen is black but phone still works...

I dropped my iPhone 4S today and the screen went black (thankfully it didn't shatter), but the phone still works perfectly fine. I can still touch it and everything; unfortunately I obviously can't see what I'm doing because it's black. Another problem is that my lock button has been broken/jammed for a while, so I can't try to reset it with holding the home button and lock button, which I've heard could work.
Is there something I can do myself? Or should I just bring it to an Apple store? Even then, can they fix it or is my phone done for good?

  • Screen is black, but phone still works

I was opening up an app and then the screen of my phone went dark. I let it be for about 30 minutes then went to go plug it into the charger to see if that would help. I then found out that Siri was still working and it would vibrate as soon as I put it in the charger. Someone please help me because I do not know what to do to fix this problem!!

Reset the phone (no data loss): press both the home and power buttons for up to 1 minute, releasing when the Apple logo appears.

  • Make iMac Screen black but computer still on

    Hello,
I am trying to make it look like my computer is off for about a week, but it is still really on. It is hard to explain why I need to do so. If I made a solid black image fullscreen for about a week, will that damage the screen? Is there another way to make it so my screen is black but the computer is still on? Thank you for any advice!

    Hi ccrosby94
In System Preferences > Energy Saver set Computer sleep: to Never and Display sleep to a few min's or sleep the display using an Active Screen Corner.

i just got my ipad today, and i was playing a game then right in the middle of it the screen goes black but looks like its shut down ive tried everything to get it to come on an nothing. i dont know if the screen has went out or what. any suggestions on how to fix this problem? and i purchased it somewhere they don't take returns. so please someone help.

Try a Reset [Hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons down together for 10 seconds or so (until the Apple logo appears) and then release. When the screen goes blank power On again in the normal way.] It is absolutely/appsolutely safe!

  • Screen black, but iBook still runs

I have had a white iBook G3 for over 5 years. I had just closed it and put it to sleep. When I opened it up not long after that, it seemed to wake up (breathing light went away), but the screen was all black. I restarted it and it booted up as normal, except the screen was black. But not pitch black; I could see the faint white box with OS 9 displayed. From all that I've read on here I probably have the inverter cable failure, or something along those lines...
I read something about PMU reset: is this safe to do (I don't want to lose anything if possible)? if there is no hope for a self-fix, any idea how much this repair costs? Where is a good place to go? I could go to an Apple store or Comp USA.
    iBook G3   Mac OS 9.0.x
    iBook G3   Mac OS 9.0.x

You could always attempt getting another used iBook with the same specs for $200-300 and then have the 2 to be able to switch things around with various parts. As I was trolling the web for used/refurbished iBooks, I found some great deals (non-ebay) and one was from a place (local to me), here in the SF bay area. Also, TigerDirect (where I got mine) has some of the 600MHz versions with 30GB hard drives and the rest of the basic specs (and Jaguar 1.2.8 pre-installed with NO disks), which comes with a year warranty through Joy Systems (a major company that does alot of the Refurbishing for other companies) for about the same price that I paid for my lesser iBook from them in August... They even have a $20-30 rebate on it I think until the end of the month... Oh well, no more 600MHZ model, but they do have the 500MHz with 30 GB HDD, 256MB RAM (I don't think that includes the built in 64MB as mine said 256 as well and it was actually 320MB total) etc and should also include an airport card, for $329.99 (same price I paid) and the $30 Mail-In Rebate offer good til 12/31/06 (which I did not get a chance to have). Just remember, you get iBook, the battery, the AC Adapter, and nothing else (pre-installed software only, no disks, no manuals). One year warranty (on a refurb) though can be hard to pass up...
I can't remember how to do the link behind a keyword, so here is the link to all Apple Refurbs from TigerDirect:
    http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-Details.asp?EdpNo=23717 19&sku=J156-4060
As for the other place mentioned, that would be PowerBook Guy (from SF):
    http://www.powerbookguy.com/xcart/catalog/index.html
And they have all kinds of refurbished Mac Items (iBook G3, G4, Powerbook G4 Titanium and Aluminum, MacBook, MacBook Pro, plus older laptops) and they also have parts and I believe, do repairs too. Not all laptops listed will be available in stock (click on the model link and then "systems" to see what is available). Decent prices, I won't even bother with the G3 prices as you can get a 12inch iBook G4 *1 GHz* 512MB RAM 30GB HDD CD Drive (ROM only I think) with a minor case crack (if you don't mind that kind of thing), for $399.95 or same specs without case crack for $429.95... iBook G3 500MHz start at around $299.95.

How do you fix an ipod that has a black screen and it turns on but when it turns on the screen gets a lighter black but you still can't see the apps or anything?

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup. See:

    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • HT201269 if your i phone 5 screen was destroyed but phone still works how do you transfer contacts and photos form old phone

My i phone 5 screen shattered yesterday, but phone still works.  Is there a way I can still retrieve my contacts and photos from my other phone?

Yes, if it's an iPhone that support iCloud and the photos are in the iPhone 5 Camera Roll.
The other photos albums should be in your photos library on your computer.
