Iphone screen now has a boarder of "dead" pixles help

my ipone 3gs is working fine but the visable screen has shrunk so there is a 1mm frame of dead pixles surrounding the display .
does any one else have this problem or better still know how to fix it?

If no change after the standard troubleshooting steps which in order are power your iPhone off and on, an iPhone reset, restoring your iPhone with iTunes from your iPhone's backup, and restoring your iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup, more than likely your iPhone has a hardware failure. The iPhone includes a one year warranty. You can call AppleCare, or make an appointment at an Apple store if there is one nearby, or the carrier for your iPhone may handle iPhone warranty claims.

It's gone and you most likely are not getting it back.
If you had important info on it, you should have made backups so you would not lose the data.

20" display screen now has black border

My screen suddenly has about a 2" border of black on each side and a 1" black border on top and bottom. Toolbar, desktop picture, etc. all show up as normal. However, I am only able to use about 60% of the screen. In some apps such as Quicken, I can't reach the sizer because the bottom of checkbook register is now in the black part. May not even be a prob. w/the display, because altho the screen of the PC itself has no black border, the images in some apps are cropped as described above. I have tried changing display preferences and black border remains. Ideas/solutions will be v. much appreciated.

I am going nuts ( no don't answer that one ! ).
Recently ( possibly after the 10.5.2 graphics update - I can't exactly recall ) my LG flat screen monitor has started to look like a grainy 60's acid art house experiment !!
It is subtle but most disconcerting as I use my beloved G5 every day with Logic P8.
I have tried changing settings - calibration the lot... but still it looks strangely weird - like a TV that is not quite tuned in.
Gradients and shaded areas have weird lines instead of fine tones and artifacts appear around type and lines where was once beautiful and clear graphics.
When I first bought the LG 204WT 20" monitor 5 months ago it was fine !.
I have been using the recommended DVI output and tried different cables and the alternative input - the effect is still there but not quite as bad when using connector to RGB input.
The shaded areas in finder and Logic are almost transparent and grainy with a light blue / pink halo like effect around windows and graphic boxes.
I *don't know how to explain it really but I do hope someone out there may have some answers or at least have an inkling of what I'm trying to describe..*
As if I couldn't make matters worse I did an archive and install to roll back to 10.5.1 early hours of this morning - this didn;'t cure the problem and I lost the use of some music plug -ins and authorizations in the bargain.. Maybe it is time to call it a day and take a long break.
Really I should get a pen and paper and sit with my guitar an a darkened room for a few days.
I called the Mac shop where it was purchased then LG but with no help, advice or offers to replace it.
I guess the monitor basically works but this strange behaviour is arguably quite subtle and may not be considered 'serious' by most people !
*In the meantime if any of you lovely people could take my situation seriously and offer any practical advise I would be most appreciative.*

Many thanks for taking time to message.
The resoloution is set as it should be and millions of colours is selected etc.
The screen has had several contrast / brightness adjustments and a factory reset with no improvement.
Also someone suggested the screen zoom might be on but this is all set as normal.
I have an imac which works fine and the difference is quite noticable - on the G5 w/ LG screen there are light blue and pink 'halo's ' around gray areas, graphics have strange patchy dots like a screen print and as I am looking and typing into this forum the gradient shaded area that says 'Apple Discussions' has very poor quality shading with horizontal blue lines !
I've also tested the cables and made sure there are no interferences - this is really weird...
I will try another monitor when I get chance - thanks again.

CRACKED IPHONE 5C NOW HAS A BLANK SCREEN

I cracked my iPhone 5c about 4 months ago and it has been working fine (despite the searching signal at the top left corner).
After my phone died I plugged in my phone, it restarted and now the screen is blank. It still lights up when I press the lock key but does not show my background, passcode or anything. My phone still lights up when I receive notification but I am unable to view them because the screen is completely blank. Is there a way to get my phone screen fixed and maybe even fix the searching signal at the top of the screen?

I guess the screen finally gave up the ghost. Replacement will be inevitable. Explore the Apple Store alternative mentioned by Lawrence or if the device is old enough consider replacement. Or, if strong of nerves, steady of hand and out of warranty, explore doing the replacement yourself. iFixIt.com has the whole procedure and the parts go for $75.

Sounds like the display got damaged. Connect an external display and see if that's OK. If that's OK then the display is probably damaged. You can try reseating the LVDS connector but if that doesn't help the connections on the display body are very difficult to get to. Apple would just replace the entire display and that's what I would do as well.

Restart computer. Open iTunes on computer. Connect iPhone to computer with USB Cable. Hold both home and power buttons until iTunes recognizes iPhone in Recovery Mode. This usually takes about 20 seconds of holding both buttons. Click the Restore button of iTunes.

HT201412 Why can't I get my iPad to go past the apple logo? The screen now has crazy lines all over it. Can't restore cause computer doesn't recognize it in device list.

When I was updating iPad 2 to newest iOS I interrupted the update by doing a reset. Now I can't do anything. Won't even show up as device on my computer so I can do a restore. Worked perfectly before I tried to do the update. I thought the update was messing up cause it seemed frozen about 1/4 way on the line that advances when you do an update. I held down home and power buttons for about 10 seconds and now there are colored lines and such moving across the screen. Can't do a restore from backup cause device not recognized. Other iPads are recognized so it's clearly the particular iPad that has the problem. What can I do?

Try and force iPad into Recovery Mode
1. Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
3.While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears, release the Home button. iTunes should alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then click Restore to restore the device.
Note: Data will be lost. You may have to repeat the above many times.

I have an ipad mini ran the ios 8.3 update all going fine then on the last part it decided to freeze on the apple logo screen. The screen has changed colour, the screen is white and the apple logo is black now. I cannot do anything with it, I tried to restore through iTunes but nothing happens. I tried to connect to iTunes holding down the home key but that didn't work. Anyone have any other suggestions.

Try to reset the device:
Device Reset (won't affect settings/data/music/apps/etc)
1. Press and hold (& continue to hold) BOTH the Sleep/Wake button & the Home button.
2. Continue to hold BOTH (ignoring any other messages that may show) until you see the Apple logo on the screen.
3. Release BOTH buttons when you see the Apple logo and allow the device to boot normally.

Recently dropped i phone 4 down the toilet, screen now has vertical lines on when i fire up??

I recently accidently dropped my iphone down the toilet, within seconds i retrieved but it shut down, i put in a tub with riceand left for at least 24 hrs, although i turned on and still seemed to have some moisture as the camera lens showed water in it, the screen then came on with a thick white line down the centre, I am assuming this is the white apple sign which comes on when started up, then this cahnged to just a full screen of vertical black lines (like a barcode). I had a passlock on the phone which i managed to unlock as it appears that everything is working behind the screen, just hoping its just an LCD problem and maybe a new screen but dont want to wast my money if not going to work??? I have upgraded and now have an Iphone 5s. I am gutted as there wasnt a mark on the iphone4 and would love to be able to have it fully functional again, any help would be appreciated...

Replacing the LCD alone won't cut it. The internal electronic components got wet and you powered the iPhone back on while the internal components were still wet. 24 hours wasn't near enough time.

IMac won't boot past white screen, now has partial pixelation?

I have just tried to restart my 2011 iMac and it has become stuck on the initial white screen (before the grey spinning gear) prior to the reboot it had being running fine for about 4 hours.
I initially thought that it may be trying to boot from the scratched PS2 game I had in the drive (was experimenting with PCSX2 before the reboot) I have tried every button combination I can find to eject the disk or boot into a different OS, I have also tried resetting the SMC and PRAM (I didn't get the 2nd beep) but to no avail. I have also taken out the extra 4gb of memory I installed to go back to the stock 4gb and swapped the stock 4gb for the new RAM but this hasn't helped either.
I have also noticed there is a small line of pixelation at the bottom of the screen, the high of it varies but it is usually around 4 pixels high, some of them are random colours but most of them are black, does this mean the graphics card has gone?

If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

Why is my phone displaying a pink screen and has appeared to be dead?

I tried to upload some photos today and for some reason it tried to synch with itunes and iphoto then went dead. Please tell me there is hope. How do I revert it back to working again?

Reset the device:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings

Iphone 5 now has usb/bluetooth conflict after upgrade to IOS7

Prior to upgrading my iphone 5 to IOS7, all was working well when I connected to my 2014 Lexus IS250 Fsport with premium audio. I was able to plug into the cars usb jack and have bluetooth connect, play music, send and receive phone calls while the phone charged etc. Ever since the update to IOS7, now if the usb is plugged in and I try to play music in keeps pausing on its own.
If I disconnect the usb all works well but now you cannnot charge your phone and use it. (please dont tell me to change the cable I have already spent 40$ doing so)
Is apple aware of this?? I see lots of people with new issues involving bluetooth and seems as though there is soemthing wrong here...

IPhone calendar now has "On my Phone" & "MobileMe"

Why in gods name do I suddenly have two setting for my iPhone calender?
I didnt used to. I used to have on calender, but now I have the option for 2. Its ridiculous because if I select all calendars, everything is duplicated.. Here is the problem :

Looks like you have selected sync calendars direct with iCal on your Mac via the iTunes sync process - selected under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences, which isn't required with a MobileMe account - not when you are syncing iCal with the MobileMe "cloud" along with your iPhone. Doing so duplicates the calendars and calendar events.
Prior to firmware update 3.0, it was possible to sync contacts and calendar events over the air with an Exchange account or with a MobileMe account, or direct with a supported application on your computer via the iTunes sync process. It was one or the other, not both at the same time.
This capability was added with firmware update 3.0 primarily for those with an Exchange account who are syncing contacts and calendar events over the air with the Exchange server for business contacts. Firmware 3.0 provides the option to sync direct with a supported application on your computer via the iTunes sync process at the same time for personal contacts and calendar events. This keeps business contacts and calendar events separate from personal contacts and calendar events, which can be viewed combined or separately.
This isn't required with a MobileMe account.
To resolve this, deselect sync calendars under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences. Select Apply followed by a sync.
On your iPhone, go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
Select your MobileMe account.
Turn Calendars off for over the air syncing with your MobileMe account. This will erase all calendars and calendar events from your iPhone downloaded from the MobileMe "cloud", but not the calendars and calendar events transferred direct from iCal on your Mac via the iTunes sync process.
OK the warning message, and wait a minute or two for all calendars and calendar events downloaded from the MobileMe "cloud" to be erased from your iPhone.
Follow this by turning Calendars back on for over the air syncing. You will be provided a merge prompt that you can select or decline.
