IPhone screen remains dark

My iPhone 4 will not display the home screen or anything else.
The screen will appear to be black with a hint of grey when you press the on/off button.
The iPhone will not power down by holding down the on/off button nor simultaneously holding down the on/off and home button.
The snooze alarm is constantly going off every 15 minutes. I'm only able to press the on/off button to snooze it for the time being.
I tried charging the phone and plugging it into my Mac Book however the screen remains dark.
What can I do?

have you tried restoring your phone in iTunes. You can just plug it into the computer make sure you have a back up. After you back up hit restore and see if that helps. If you don't make a back up you will lose all your data because the restore will erase every thing

  • IMac G4 screen remains dark

my 17' G4 iMac USB 2.0 (10.4.11) screen froze and the following messages appeared:
"System failure: cpu 0 00000008 unaligned stack"
as well as lots of the following lines:
"Unresolved kernel trap (cpu 0) 0x600 Alignment DAR" etc
Had to shut it down by using power switch. Pulled out all cables except for mouse + keyboard.
I can start it - but there is no start-up chime and screen remains black.
Tried safe boot, no response. Tried to open drive door during start up for putting in hardware test disc (mouse held down), door won't open.
Tried PRAM, no response. Tried PMU reset, no change.
Removed extra RAM I had fitted years ago and tried to start it. After I did that the iMac responds
with a 4 x beep morse code signal after turning it back on, but screen remains dark.
Also tried to start in target mode, but other 27' iMac does not "see" G4 iMac.
Anyone has any thoughts ? Don't want to get rid of this machine, I love the design.
    Thanks
    Walter

There is some likelihood of a hardware failure, to include
perhaps, the logic board; some kernel panic issues on an
iMac G4 could point to such an event.
Not certain if checking out such a machine at that stage is
possible with the original Apple Hardware Test, since that
relies on viewing evidence of the results in said computer.

While it may not be a major melt-down, you could be in for
a project at some point in the future if you start looking into
finding other similar iMac G4s (they are getting scarce) to
use either for parts or as spares should their needs go there.
    I have two running iMac G4 1.25GHz 17" & one in-op for parts.
A skilled and willing computer shop tech could probably
test the computer further, but some shops would rather
you buy something newer from their retail store. In some
cases, you may be able to get a working iMac G4 17" 1.25
for a few hundred dollars; if lucky, one in fine shape.
Perhaps one of the techie folks who frequent these forums will
see your post & offer their insights, based on experience.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Nano works great BUT screen remains Dark?

Everything works great, music transfers, playing BUT my screen remains very dark (but just light enough to see all the menu's and songs!). Messing with the backlight setting has no effect. Am I missing something or is it damaged?
I've updated the software and also used the restore feature but nothing can get it back. It's a 4G colour nano.
    Any ideas?

also - i connected my digital camera straight to the monitor via USB and it doesn't display. I've never tried that before with my camera, but it seems like if the monitor is powered on, connecting it to the camera would cause the pictures stored in the camera to show up on the display.

  • IPhone Screen gone dark

    Hi there
I'm a little confused. My iphone screen has gone all dark. I can still see the icons if I try really hard, but it's a struggle.
I've re-set the phone, to no avail, and have also played around with the Brightness settings, which have not affected anything.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

  • My MacBook won't turn on. When I try, it makes electronic tones and the screen remains dark. What do I do?

This morning I found my MacBook screen was dark, no response. The power light was on, it's been plugged in and that seems to be working. I powered it down and when I hit power to turn it back on it made an electronic pattern of tones.  After that...nothing. Dark screen, power light on. I'd love some advice.

    Try this.
    Erase and Reinstall OS X
Note: This will delete all data on the disk. Back up important files before continuing.
Erasing and then reinstalling OS X can give you a fresh start, making your computer exactly as it was whenever you received it from Apple. This can solve various problems such as corrupt system files.
Shut down the computer by going to Apple () > Shut Down…
Select Shut Down or allow the computer to shut down automatically.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter into a power source and then connect it to your Mac if you have not already done so.
Press the Power Button to turn on the computer.
Press and hold both the R and Command (⌘) keys on the keyboard until the Recovery partition loads.
Select Disk Utility and then choose Continue.
Select your startup disk (Macintosh HD by default) from the left.
    Select the Erase tab.
Choose the Format pop-up menu and choose Mac OS Extended (Journaled), enter a name for your disk, and then click Erase.
After the disk is erased, choose Disk Utility > Quit Disk Utility.
Select Reinstall OS X and then choose Continue.
    Follow the instructions.
I hope I solved your question.

  • Iphone screen is dark

My wife has a new iphone that has the 2.2 os running on it. As of yesterday, the screen has gone dark (but the icons of the phone are still visible) the phone still functions. Brightness is at its highest level. Can't get into the genius bar for two days (typical). Any ideas? She is heading out of town prior to being able to get an appt.

I had the same problem several days ago after charging my 3G iphone placed screen side up under a bright table lamp. I could barely make out the icons and the screen was almost completely dark but from what I could still make out all the apps and phone continued to work. I tried all of the suggestions in this thread with no luck. I then turned out all lights and went to sleep deciding to visit my Genius Bar the next day. When I awoke, the screen back light had restored itself when I tried it. My opinion is that the light sensor on the phone was "overloaded" or "desensitized" from being charged for several hours sitting underneath a bright table lamp light. I have had no problem or recurrence since. If anyone is still having this problem simply try turning the phone off and placing it in a dark place for a few hours or overnight, make sure it is charged, and try again in the morning.

  • IPhone screen is dark. I can receive calls but can't make them because I can't see the numbers on the screen. Is there anything I can do about that?d

My phone got damp. It wouldn't work for about a week. Now the screen is completely dark, altho I can receive calls. I just can't make a call because I can't see the numbers.  Anything I can do about that? Is this a simple repair?

Yup, it sounds like your iPhone needs to be sent in for service.

  • IPhone screen really dark, unable to us it! Help!

    Hello,
The screen on my iPhone has suddenly gone really dark (it was like that when I switched it on this morning!) - I can not really use it as its almost impossible to see anything, I can only just make out what the different menues are. So the backlight seems to have broken. Any one else who has experienced this? What to do? I have turned it off several times, I have even reset it once and charged it... and obviously checked the light settings.
    Your help is much appreciated!

Right i've been restoring, backing up, syncing and trying different things all day. I've found this and the screen has been ok for 10 minutes now! My issue was intermittant so i knew the screen could go bright.
"Alright what ya wanna do is go into your settings/go into brightness/turn off the Auto Brightness feature off/turn the iPhone completely off/wait 30 seconds/from there turn it back on/check to see if the auto brightness is still off/if not put it into sleep mode/wake it up/should have the same brightness as it did when you put it to sleep/now that the phone is back on/go bvack inbto settings then brightness/turn on auto brightness/shut down the phone/wait 30 seconds/then turn the phone back on./put it to sleep/wake it up/problem should be solved//VR"

  • My Iphone screen is dark

Ok, so i was laying on my couch which sits low on the ground. I have a Iphone 3. No warranty because my son won it at his graduation. I dropped it on the floor and it has a thick protective cover on it. And when i picked it up its very dark I can see my apps and stuff. but its like 80% dark. I restarted it a couple of times. is there a way i can fix it without a full restore? thank you

    Hello there, brittyscifi.
The following Knowledge Base article provides some great steps for troubleshooting your issue:
    iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2802
    Display doesn't adjust brightness automatically
The ambient light sensor brightens the display when using the iPhone in brightly lit environments, and dims the display in low light. To test this sensor, do the following:
If the iPhone is in a protective case, remove it from the case. If there is a protective film on the display, remove the film.
Verify that the Auto-Brightness setting (Settings > Brightness and Wallpaper) is set to ON, and that the Brightness level is set near the middle of the slider.
Press the Home button to return to the Home screen and then press the Sleep/Wake button to lock the iPhone.
In a bright environment, cover the top third of the iPhone to block the light, then press the Sleep/Wake button or the Home button to wake the phone. Slide the slider to unlock the phone.
Notice the brightness of the screen and application icons; they should be somewhat dimmed.
Remove the cover from the top of the display and in a few moments the display should get brighter.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • Dark screen remains after waking from sleep mode

Whilst using Safari Version 3.1.2, Mac OS 10.4.11 on my Powerbook G4 (aluminum, 1.5 ghz), my screen remains dark upon waking from sleep mode. Trying to increase screen brightness is ineffectual for some reason likely related to this problem. My only workaround is to force shutdown and restart. Any ideas about a solution would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Gary,
This behavior is not a Safari issue but system related.
Close all applications an run in utilities> disc repair permissions.
After you done reboot an see what happens when your Mac gets to sleep mode again. This time don't open any applications to test it. Just leave it showing your desktop.
Post back with the results ...

  • TS3474 My nano will not power on when fully charged, screen remains black.

Bought early 2012, no idea what generation it is. When connected to the stereo, the screen illuminates and nano works with stereo controls. When I try to take the nano for a run, when holding the power button down the screen remains black and no amount of touching the screen will produce an image or any sound. Any ideas about troubleshooting the black screen when powering up un-connected?

    Hello gatormother,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
For more information, take a look at:
iPod nano (7th generation): Hardware troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4433
Will not turn on or screen remains dark
Connect iPod to power for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has enough charge to allow iPod to turn on.
If iPod does not turn on after ten minutes, try resetting it while it is still connected to power. Reset the iPod by holding down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button for at least six seconds or until you see the Apple logo appear.
If the Apple logo appears on the display, connect iPod to a computer and verify that it appears in iTunes and can play music. If iPod appears in iTunes and can play music, no further troubleshooting is needed.
If the screen remains dark and will not turn on, then your iPod may need service.
    Have a nice day,
    Mario

  • Pismoscreen remains dark after start  - please help

My pismo screen remains dark after starting the computer, I just controlled the electrical connections as previous described in the forum but with no results.
Starting by cd has no effects - the screen remains dark, but the computer is visible as volume in the network .
As my powerbook has the same default after an expensive repair by apple 1 year ago (they did´nt even tell me what was going wrong) , I would like to know what could be the reason of the malfunction and if there is a possibility to fix the problem by myself.
    regards
    zacambo

    Cacker,
I would certainly give the microprocessor card a shot as described in an earlier reply.
When the 'book is running, can you move the display from almost closed to fully opened (almost 180º) and cause the backlight to light up? If so, you have a loose connection or damaged wires where they pass through the hinges/clutches.
You will want to lift off the keyboard and heat shield and check the inverter/backlight connections on the logic board.
Since you can see data, one inexpensive repair is replacing the inverter board ($10-15); this powers the fluorescent backlight and is very easy to replace. See this link for the inverter and cables.
    http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/6.12.10.html
Note: You do NOT have to remove all the items as shown in this guide. To replace the inverter, remove all power > keyboard (don't disconnect - just lay it on the palm rest upside down) > heat shield > clutch cover.
    Here is the full guide:
