IPhone screen turns off immediately after a message is sent.

I am using an iPhone 5S (Running iOS 7.1.1) and whenever I send a message, as soon as my finger taps send, the "lock shutter" blacks out the screen and then unlocks itself after a few seconds. Anyone have any ideas?

Hey there 4cpukid,
It sounds like you are experiencing an issue where you tap Send in the Messages app and your phone unexpectedly goes to sleep. I would quit all the running apps on the device first:
iOS: Force an app to close
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5137
Double-click the Home button.
Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
Swipe the app up to close it.
When you have done that reset the phone and test the issue again:
To reset, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.
iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
All the very best,

Hi, I have an iPhone 4s running iOS 7.0.4 and the phone keeps going of whenver battery level drops to 20% and it give the warning. It turns off immediately after I dismiss the warning message. I LOCKED THE PHONE AT 21% and I was able to play music to 4% which means there is no problem with the battery, this seems to be a programming error.
Earlier suggestion include that the battery has a dead cell but it wouldnt keep playing music for over 2 hours it it had a dead cell.

My issue with IOS 7.1 and higher is my Bluetooth for the phone still works...no problem but the music does not work with bluetooth...I have an Acura TSX 2010...Acura said there are no incidents reported, but me...I just upgraded to IPhone 6 and still no good....as soon as i hit the AUX button it say USB...not bluetooth...ugh

hello sir my iphone screen turns off after using 2-5 minutes what would be the problem please help me out

To make sure that this is not software related, set it back to factory settings, without using any backup data afterwards. Set up the rest of the personal settings manually and test the phone. If it still does not work, this is a hardware issue and the phone has to be serviced by Apple or an Authorized Apple Service Provider:
Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings - Apple Support

We can't know if there's a "fixture" because we can't examine your phone.  But Apple can.  Make a Genius Bar appointment and get your phone evaluated.

  • Screen turns off immediately when setting systemIdleMode to NORMAL after having been in KEEP_AWAKE

I've found a little issue in Android...
In my application I download some files the first time it's run. Since it takes a couple of minutes without user input, the screen turns off automatically. I've found some tablets not only turn off the screen but also interrupt the download altogether when going to sleep, so to avoid this I'm using this to prevent the screen from turning off (is there any other workaround to prevent downloads being interrupted by sleep?):
    NativeApplication.nativeApplication.systemIdleMode = SystemIdleMode.KEEP_AWAKE;
Of course, I've also added the WAKE_LOCK and DISABLE_KEYWARD permissions to my app descriptor, so the above code works. The problem is that I don't want the app to stay awake all the time, so after the download finishes, I'm setting the screen back to normal with:
    NativeApplication.nativeApplication.systemIdleMode = SystemIdleMode.NORMAL;
But after executing that, the screen goes off immediately, instead of waiting for a minute or so before dimming the screen. It's as if the dimming was triggered already during the download process, but didn't actually happen because of the KEEP_AWAKE setting, and then when switching to NORMAL, the screen dimming takes place immediately so it turns off.
Is this an intended behaviour or should I file a bug?
How can I manage to set the systemIdleMode to NORMAL but still have the screen on waiting a bit before going to sleep? Turning off the screen as soon as the download is finished is confusing for the user, who might think the app has frozen when it's really just in sleep mode (and the user has to unlock the screen before going back to the app).
This happens in just about any version of AIR 3.x (and probably below).
Also, it happens in iOS as well, but it's less dramatic because the screen just dims a little (app is still visible) when setting systemIdleMode to NORMAL, instead of turning off completely and locking the screen, which is the behaviour in Android.

What do you mean? That it doesn't happen in iOS 6.0 anymore? What do you mean with "me app lock"? Please, elaborate

    Hey Tiffy6996!
I have an article here for you that describes this issue and can help you troubleshoot the issue a little further:

Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.

  • 5800 turns off immediately after pressing the call...

Hi guys had my XM about 8 months now and it's just started to turn off as soon as i attempt to make a call. It starts to make the call then just goes to black screen and off. Incoming calls and txts are working fine so it does not look like  a hardware issue.
Any suggestions before i re-flash the **bleep**

You can try soft reset.Dial *#7370# and enter lock code(12345 by default).
    Further to this,
    1. Do not forget to take a backup before doing this...
    2. Use your set lock code if you have changed the default...

  • MBP (early 2008) turns off immediately after startup

Machine was working great when I left work Friday.  When I got into office Monday, noticed machine was extremely hot and in sleep mode.
Machine wouldn't wake up, so I powered it down and let it cool off.
Machine has cooled off but won't boot up - every time I try the light on the lid button lights up full brightness for a second, then goes dim, then goes out totally within a second.
From what I've seen through searching the forums, this could be a power supply issue.  Any tips greatly suggested.

Take a look at this knowledge base article on MagSafe first and rule that out.
Any of the items you list could be an issue.  The best way to find out is a visit to an Apple genius bar where they can run some diagnostics and see where the problen is in the system.

  • HT201412 Hi! I bought my iPod in California last August 21, 2012. I just had a tour there so I went back to the Philippines last August 23, 2012. However after two weeks and several charging of my gadget, it suddenly turns off immediately after 5-7 second

Can someone help me regarding my concern? It is a bit impossible for me to send back my iPod to where I bought it because I am already back in the Philippines. What are my other options considering that I live miles away from California already?

First, try the usual steps: restart, reset, restore.

  • IPhone Screen Turns of Randomly

Sometimes when I am in the middle of something the iPhone screen turns off by it self, when I press the power button to turn it back on, the screen flashes a black screen and I have to lock and unlock it again.
If anyone has an idea why please help. Thank You.
    Info may help:
My iPhone is unlocked with SimFree
I have the 1.0.2 Version running
I have 2 Native Apps (Apollo and Navizon)

To expand on this a bit:
We really can't help you because your phone and my phone are not the same. The process of unlocking the piece could have altered parts of the OS in ways neither of use could know.

  • IPhone Randomly turns off.

My iPhone randomly turns off, mainly after I have been on the phone for 5 minutes or more, but it also turns off whilst playing games and sometimes even when it is just in my pocket doing nothing.
It can be really annoying during important phone calls or when I have been on hold for a few minutes and then just as I get through it cuts off.
It turns back on straight away, but I have to go through everything again.
It has done this since pretty much one month after I got it.
I have reset and I have all the latest updates, the support page doesn't seem to cover this problem.

Assuming that your phone is not jailbroken or hacked in any way, restore the phone in iTunes, first using a backup, and if needed as a new iPhone, without using a backup.  If restoring as new doesn't help, there is a hardware failure and you need evaluation by Apple or whoever provides iPhone service in your country.
