IPhone security issue

To repost a question asked in another blog, because it is critical to iOS security.  Can't find a good answer.
When connecting to a URL via HTTPS and the SSL certificate doesn't match (such as at a paid Wi-Fi hotspot), iOS shows a dialog asking whether the certificate should be accepted. If you accept the certificate, iOS adds an SSL exception and will never ask about that certificate again.
There are possibly two aspects to this: certificates accepted in Safari, and certificates accepted for network services in other apps.
The question is, how does one remove these exceptions, short of a full device reset? There seems to be no way to view or remove exceptions in the device settings.
So, first, other than personal certificates, how do you view any "trusted" additions or "exceptions" in iOS 8 (thye are different)?  And second, how do you remove unwanted ones.
Hard to believe that, in today's security environment, that Apple hasn't addressed this.
Thanks, all!
BTW, hard to believe that there is no Community here for Apple security issues!

  • IPhone security issues

Hey I've recently purchased an iPhone 5. I sync it to my iMac and my sister who also has an iPhone syncs her phone on the same iMac. Now the problem is she can access the things on my phone onto hers. I mean is this possible if yes then how do I stop that?

I'll assume you're using the same iMac login.
Depending on your version of iTunes, under the Summary tab when you select you iPhone (note your iPhone may need to be connected to iTunes) you should see an option called 'Encrypt iPhone backup'. This option will password protect and secure your iPhone backup so she can't install your iPhone backup on her own iPhone.
Sounds like your using the same iTunes ID, so she'll see your Apps, Music, Podcasts and stuff like that but messages, calls and stuff like that is pretty safe. (just remember not to loose that iPhone backup password).

Why would you make a new account?  This will likely cause many problems.  Just get you old account enabled.
Apple ID: "This Apple ID has been disabled for security reasons" alert appears

Everything you purchased with the old account will always be tied to that account.  You will have to authorize the computer for that account and you will have to update the apps from that account.

  • Company email access denied to iphone users due to security issues, help!

I am interested in purchasing an iphone but my company said they won't allow access to our company email with the iphone due to security issues. Any one else heard of that? Is there some way for me to forward my company email to the account I would set up under the itunes? It seems there are a lot of unhappy people out there with these phones, are there any happy users out there? It seems like such a cool device and I want one but don't want to get stuck with something I can't use or that I am going to have problems with.

Of course there are happy users.
These discussions are like a hospital for Mac products with nothing but problems reported here. If you based a decision on purchasing an Apple product, any product on these discussions, you would never purchase any. Coming to the conclusion here that there are no happy users and the iPhone is nothing but problems would be like visiting a local hospital in your area full of patients (all are) and coming to the conclusion that everyone in your community must be sick and/or dying.
What type of email account - POP, IMAP or Exchange through an Exchange Server?
Accessing an email account on an iPhone is no different than accessing the account with a computer. Funny that your company claims the iPhone has security issues and prevents access but certainly allows PCs running Windows to access company email accounts? Sorry but this is my biggest laugh of the day - not at you but at your company. Your company has loads of security issues and concerns with any version of Windows accessing their network than they would ever come close to with an iPhone accessing the incoming mail server to download messages.
If your company allows for email account forwarding, you can do so.

  • IPHONE 4 SECURITY ISSUE

    IPHONE 4 SECURITY ISSUE
After installing software ver 5.0.1.  I have found that even with a passcode present you can still access your phone contacts and have full calling features.  If you have a missed call on the front screen and NO SERVICE displayed in the top bar, by sliding the missed call bar across you are given the option of DONE at the bottom of the screen. Click on this and your phone brings you to the recent calls list, where you have full access to all calling features including contacts!!
If anyone has a resolution to this issue PLEASE help me.

Re-boot the phone. It shouldn't do this.

  • Security issue with unlocking my iPhone 4?

I'm not sure if anyone here will be able to help me but I am trying to get my iPhone unlocked with AT&T. I bought my iPhone on contract through AT&T in December 2010. My account is in good standing. I paid my ETF, it's technically eligible to be unlocked. I called AT&T on April 9th for an unlock and it's now April 19th and still no wordd from them. I've called several times and they won't tell me what's going on other than that "there is a security issue with unlocking my iPhone and the issue is with Apple, but they are working on it." From my understanding, all AT&T needs is the unlock code to enter into the system and unlock it from there. I don't know what security issues could possibly exist that would create a problem. The only thing I can think of is that when I orginally bought my iPhone it turned out to be a lemon and had to get it replaced the day after I bought it. I did this through an Apple store since it was around Christmas. The IMEI number on my phone doesn't match the one AT&T has on file, but that shouldn't matter? I gave them the right IMEI number that is on my current phone. Does anyone know what "security issues" can exist when it comes to unlocking an iPhone 4?

Don't stress over the words used by the customer service people at AT&T. Half of them don't know what they're talking about more than half the time.  You are probably correct in that it has something to do with their database being inaccurate.
Give it a few days, then contact them again and ask for it to be escalated.
Ignor rNair. The idea that Apple made it mandatory for AT&T to do anything is complete and total bunk. (S)He has no idea what (s)he's talking about

  • If an iPhone is outdated does the security issues effect it?

I heard about Apple and their security issues and how they want everyone to update their iPhone and Apple TV's, which i have done. BUT My mom has an iPhone 4 and it dosent have enough space on it for updates. She doesnt even have iOS7. So does the security issue effect her sense her phone is outdated or is she good?

    Hi ijus5tin,
If she has a lot of photos, have her import them to her computer or Mac, and once she has verified they are there, remove them from the device. Also, if she has a lot of text messages with videos, have her delete those - they take up a ton of room.
Any movies, tv shows, etc. should also be removed.
That will help free up some space.
    Cheers,

  • Security Issue with Apple ID

Today while using my iphone and trying to use facetime for the first time since updating to IOS6, my phone asked me if I wanted to use some email address that I do not have for facetime. What? The message pretty much said that this email address was linked to my apple ID. So I got to work logged into AppleID.Apple.com and saw the email address verified and also saw it displayed as an alternate apple id. Immediately, I changed my Apple ID password and called apple at 1800myapple since that is the number on the website and try to talk to someone that could assist me with this severe issue. Anyway, my iphone went dead and the people on the phone couldn't connect me to anyone because I couldn't give them a serial number to an apple device. I tried to explain to the technicians that this is a problem with my ID and that the alternate ID has access to everything that my Apple ID has access to. Both times the call went nowhere. This is ridiculous. Why can't I talk to a security team? Why is the technician telling me that I can manage my ID from the website, when I know that I am looking at the website and I cannot remove the alternate ID? How did this ID get associated with my account and why did I never receive an email informing me of the change?
Since Apple has other services and not just products STOP ASKING FOR A SERIAL NUMBER AND ASSIST THE CUSTOMER WITH THE ISSUE especially since it is a SECURITY ISSUE.

oh man, I know exactly what you're talking about. i have a relatively easy to guess apple id email and everybody in the world thinks it's theirs... but once I turned on two-step authentication, the emails stopped completely.  here's a faq about it:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5570
once i turned that on, whenever they'd want to reset my password, they would get asked for my recovery key, which they don't have, haha!  victory is mine.

  • Does anyone have an email address to send a security issue to apple?

found something they should know about (if they don't already) and wonder how to tell them... tried calling... no real email's listed... it's not a bug that hasn't already hit them in the past but still don't wanna post it on the boards.
so my question is: anyone know a valid email address that i can send a security issue about the iphone to?

  • IPhone security vulnerabilities ????

This was sent out to all employees at my local gov offices... anyone know what she is talking about?
I know iPhones are the latest cool gadget. However, there are security vulnerabilities associated with having them on our network in order to get your e-mail from the Exchange server. We are researching and trying to stay current on the issues and solutions. I do recommend that before you purchase an iPhone with expectations of using County network resources like e-mail, please contact us.

Security is a 'cool' word to say, we're not sure how we're going to support this, or we don't want you to use it. Essentially this is a cool myth to make people afraid. (think of airport security and the 'orange' alerts we're conditioned to be fearful of)
If you can get your work email at home via POP, IMAP and/or web access, the iPhone poses no more or less security threat than your home PC or laptop do.
The only 'security issue' I can really see is that an iPhone is much easier to loose or have stolen, in which case, since there is no password needed to access the emails stored on the phone, someone 'could' view confidential emails stored on the phone, as well as send new emails, until a password is changed on the corporate side.

  • IPhone Security using Edge an/or WiFi

    Hi.
I'm curious about security on the iPhone, particularly using the Mail app when using Edge and/or WiFi. Is Edge secure in a way that WiFi isn't? I don't know anything about WiFi, but understand that packets can be sniffed in transit, and anything sent in the clear can be compromised.
Any truth to that? And if so, is surfing the web and checking mail with Mail while out and about any safer with Edge? What about using the AIM client to chat?
Please understand that I'm not familiar with Edge and WiFi, just looking for some clarification.
    Thx,
    Scott

The most dangerous aspect of checking email is that most systems pass username and password in the clear. Especially if you are using an email client without SSL.
If you are on WiFi with no encryption (WPA, WEP) like at a starbucks, then the worst thing you could do is check email that has no SSL. You are throwing your Username and password on the wire. A person could take, go to Amazon and any other major website and say they forgot the password. Put in your email address and then watch your mailbox for a reset. Then they go to Amazon and order stuff with your credit card (that is on file).
The cell network, as mentioned above, is a little safer only because you don't have to worry about someone sitting in the same room monitoring your data usage.
Same rules apply to AIM, but if you don't have any stores or credit cards tied in to it, the worse that happens is someone watches your conversations and impersonates you.
These security issues are not limits of the iPhone, but email and AIM implementation by your providers.

  • Movies list done in Notes updated to my Blockbuster account w/o my knowledge. Security issues?

Movies list done in Notes updated to my Blockbuster account w/o my knowledge. Security issues?
    How was this possible?

    Ok, let me explain:
One day at Blockbuster store I started to make a list on Notes app on my iPhone with movies that I want to add to my BB online queue when I get home (for DVD mail in delivery, just like Netflix used to be). All good so far. Few days later the list it's not in Notes anymore and when I checked my BB account the movies that were on the list I made in Notes are now in my BB queue. How was the list moved, the accounts are not linked, don't even think it's possible to link Notes with BB anyway.

That is a new "feature" described in Connect your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch using Continuity
You can turn it off by going to Settings > FaceTime and changing "iPhone Cellular Calls" to off
