IPhone sending message as imessage instead of SMS to Nokia

My wife has switched to a Nokia Lumia and given me her old iphone 4. The iPhone has been unlocked and resynced and everything has switched over successfully, The only issue is that, when I try to send her a text, my iPhone (her old iPhone) tries to send this (unsuccessfully) as an iMessage instead of a sms. Somehow it thinks my wifes new phone is an iPhone. Any ideas?

Presumably, your wife kept the same phone number, but didn't dis-associate it from iMessage before switching to the Nokia?
See the following article (although for Vodafone applies to all providers):

Upgraded to ios6 on ipad2 now I cant send messages from imessage. Any fix? I've rebooted/powered down and on again and in Settings turned messages off and on again. Still won't work...

I did speak a bit too soon it seems - while I can now send messages again from my iPad 2, it still doesn't show me messages that were sent to me via my telephone number. Which is weird, because in the "You can be reached by iMessage at:" setting I do have my telephone number checked.
At this moment I have set my iPad 2 and iPhone 4's "Start new conversations from:" setting to my Apple ID e-mail address. This way at least I can send messages *and* receive messages if people don't use my telephone number to send me messages...
So yes, you should probably wait a while before restoring your iPad 2 - it doesn't fix things completely.

  • Why i can´t send message by iMessage

    Hello friends
I can't send message from iMessage (MBP or iMac) for my friend (use iPhone5S), but i can send for other people, and my friend can do the same, send for other people but can't send for me.

    Hi,
If your Mac version is sending From your iPhone number check that the Messages app is set for a country or region in the iMessages account.
Messages > Preferences > Accounts > iMessages account > Click th Details button > Sign In (again) > In the pane that then appears check the country code nearer the bottom.
If they are sending to your iPhone Number they may need to add the Country Code.

Unable to send message through iMessage.
Retry fails over and over again.
But able to receive from it.
Tried resetting network settings then it works again until the problem comes back.
Not sure what causes the problem. I do not wish to reboot my iphone everytime when it happens.
    Seems like ios7 gm issues.
Never had this problem on the beta.
Anyone have any resolution to this?

    iMessage is Activated.
    Facetime is Activated.
Don't know what is preventing me from sending over iMessage.
Receiving is no problem. Even during the the time I was trying to send.

  • Messages Mac default to sending by iMessage instead of SMS/MMS

Is there a way to set Messages on my iMac (10.10.3) to send messages to a recipient using iMassage rather than SMS/MMS? I know my recipients have iPhones, but when I open messages and want to send them a message, Messages uses their "green" text message connection rather than their "blue" iMessage connection. I can change them to send using iMessage (blue), but the next time I open Messages, they are set again to send using SMS/MMS (green).

    Hi,
Have you checked that the iMessages Accounts is actually logged in showing in Messages > Preferences > Accounts ?
I find mine say the other way around - also defaults to iMessages rather than SMS

  • IPhone trying to send message as iMessage to non-iOS recipient

When I create a new message, I select the contact (who has a non-iOS device, in this case a Samsung Galaxy), the contacts name is green, which is fine.
When I select the green contact's mobile number, the banner at the top goes from "New Message" to "New iMessage", the name stays green, but after typing a message the "Send" button remains greyed out so I cannot send it.
I don't know why the iPhone is trying to send this as an iMessage when it clearly knows full well that the recipient is non-iOS (as the contact name is green).
I have an iPhone 4s on iOS 7.1

    Hey there Barkster,
It sounds like you are unable to send messages to a non iOS device when creating a new message. I would use the following troubleshooting from the following article:
    iOS: Troubleshooting Messages
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2755
To resolve issues sending and receiving SMS, follow these steps
Go to Settings and turn airplane mode off.
Make sure that you have a cellular network signal in the status bar of your iPhone. If there's no signal, learn more about troubleshooting no service.
    Restart your iPhone.
Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings on your iPhone.
Remove your SIM card and insert it again.
If you still can't send or receive SMS, follow these steps
Make sure that the contact who's trying to message you isn't blocked in Settings > Messages > Blocked.
Make sure that you're using the area code with the contact's phone number. When sending messages internationally, you also need to use the contact's international code.
If you're using a "Pay as you go" SMS plan, make sure it has enough available balance. Contact your carrier if you're unsure of your SMS plan or the available balance.
If the issue occurs with a specific contact or contacts, back up or forward important messages and delete your current messaging threads with the contact. Create a new message to the contact and try again.
If the issue occurs with a specific contact or contacts, delete and recreate the contact from the Contacts app. Send a new message to the contact.
Back up and restore your iPhone as new.
If your carrier has recently ported your phone number, the porting process might not be complete. Contact your carrier to confirm that the porting process is complete.
Contact your carrier to confirm that you're provisioned for sending SMS and are in an area with cellular coverage.
Contact your carrier to verify there are no blocks or filters placed on your wireless account preventing you from sending SMS.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Take care,
    Sterling

  • My iPhone does not receive calls, make calls, send message (text, imessage)

Hey, so recently I've got my iphone (4) and I have updated to ios 5.0.1 the next day I got it. The problem is that my phone sometimes doesn't make phone calls, receive ones or send message( imessage and text message) properly. And when I try to call someone when my phone is acting that way and then say 'end' it just gets locked. But after waiting SO long it starts working but I never could understand the problem. I hope you can help me...

    Hi,
Try testing the iPhone without any accessories.
This article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1737 provides general tips that will resolve most issues related to making and receiving calls.
Try contacting the cellular service provider, if the issue persists after trying the tips in the article above. This article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1937 provides support resources for iPhone service providers.

  • My iPhone 4 will not send messages as iMessage

It will only send messages as text. There is nothing wrong with my network connection. Safari and Mail work fine. I know it is sending as text because the message is in green. I don't even have Send as SMS on in Settings.

is it giving any specific error message? Have you tried a different outbound smtp server?

  • I can't send  message from iMessage why? I have credits for send but it doesn't work! Need help!

Hello plz I need help !! I can't send my message with iMessage! I don't understand why?! Yesterday I send it! And now it's not working! I have credits ! So why?! PLZZZZZ need help have to talk to my friend!!

    Let me clarify.
iMessage is completely different from regular SMS. iMessage is where you can text from Apple device to Apple device (ex. iPad to iPhone, or iPod to iPad)
SMS is texting service for all phones, excluding the ipod, ipad. (ex. iPhone to Droid, or iPhone to Nokia)
So when you iMessage someone on you iPhone, it is free and can be sent to anyone with an Apple device.
When texting SMS, you can send to anyone with any kind of cell phone.

  • I can't send messages on iMessage!

I cant send messages to phones or anything else, it just sayd they're gmail accounts! it says on the bottom left hand corner Jabber Available, but i dont know how to get off Jabber! Help me!

    Hi,
    Do it this way.
On the Mac Shut down the Messages app
On the iPhone go to Settings > Messages.
    Remove the Apple ID.
Place the iPhone in Airplane mode for 5 mins  (this breaks with the server)
On restarting the iPhone in normal mode go to Settings > Messages and check the app is active, that the iPhone Number is listed and that it is greyed out but ticked as Active.
    Re-add the Apple ID.
The break with the server and re-adding the Apple ID will cause the iMessages server to re-link them.
Now restart the app on the Mac.
You should one or two pop ups saying the iPhone is using the Apple ID and the iPhone number.
    Accept the pop up(s).
Accepting the pop ups adds the iPhone number to the list in Messages > Preferences > Accounts > iMessages account for the Receive At and the Send From drop down.

  • Why is my iphone sending messages from my email and not my number?

My phone will send messages from my email rather than my number. I have gone to the settings to switch it to send just from my number. When i do that, it does not send. What do i do to fix this problem!?

    Hello therealdeal333,
Thank you for participating in the Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you're only able to send iMessages using your Apple ID (email address) on your iPhone. If you're not able to send iMessages using your phone number, first try signing out of iMessage and FaceTime on your iPhone:
Go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive, tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
Go to Settings > FaceTime, tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
If you send iMessages from other devices (such as a Mac or iPad), sign out of those as well.
Then sign back in on your iPhone:
On your iPhone first, sign back in to iMessage and Facetime.
Sign back in to iMessage and Facetime on your other devices (if necessary.)
You can find the steps I quoted above, as well as more troubleshooting help, at this link:
If you can't send or receive messages on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
    Best Regards,
    Jeremy
