IPhone sends as iMessage first then sms text to non iPhone
Hi. My GF had an iPhone for a week in November and iMessage was activated. She didn’t get on with the iPhone so gave it back. Before doing so we made sure we turned off iMessage in the phone settings and on her Apple ID account and deleted her number out of it etc. However, still to this day when I send her a message from my iPhone to her non iPhone it sends as iMessage then immediately sends as text afterwards. It doesn’t always do this, maybe once or twice in the day and all other times it just sends as text straight away as it should do. Anyone shed any light on this? Thanks!
I don't believe there are any other settlings you could change. You may need to check with your cellular provider to be certain the SMS option is properly provisioned on your account.

I have read that I can use imessage to send and receive regulr SMS text messages to non iphone users; but, I can't seem to make it work. When I try to enter a mobile number of a non iphone user in the new text address bar and send anSMS text the adressee turns red and I get the following message:
Your message could not be sent.

As I said the Menu Item has disappeared in Messages but you can still get it to send SMS Messages via an AIM Account to a "Buddy" that is the phone number with a leading + 1 for the country code (although it was never rolled out world wide).

The Menu items in the Buddies menu (This is from iChat 5) do not appear unless the computer ius set to be in the United States.
They don't appear at All in Messages (whether the computer is set or not.)

IMessages not accepting SMS text message since an update
I upgraded to the latest version of Yosemite, 10.10.2 and ever since then my imessages account has stopped sending/receiving SMS text messages and shows them as pink/red

Have you tried resetting the option of the iPhone so it causes a New code number to appear on the Mac ?
Repeat the setting if you don't see a code number straight away.

Messages Mac default to sending by iMessage instead of SMS/MMS
Is there a way to set Messages on my iMac (10.10.3) to send messages to a recipient using iMassage rather than SMS/MMS? I know my recipients have iPhones, but when I open messages and want to send them a message, Messages uses their "green" text message connection rather than their "blue" iMessage connection. I can change them to send using iMessage (blue), but the next time I open Messages, they are set again to send using SMS/MMS (green).

Have you checked that the iMessages Accounts is actually logged in showing in Messages > Preferences > Accounts ?
I find mine say the other way around - also defaults to iMessages rather than SMS

Can't receive SMS texts from non-iPhone users
My phone suddenly stopped letting me receive texts from non iPhone users yesterday. Since then, I have powered my phone on and off, reset the network, and power cycle. My mother has been in the hospital and I have to be here with her all day. I have no time to go to a verizon store. I've only had the phone a week and I'm really disappointed with this. Seeing my mom is in the hospital, I really need this to be working, but I'd don't even know of something else to try.
Ktoole, I can understand how frustrating this could be. How long has this been an issue? Have you ever been able to receive texts from non-iPhone users? Do you have iMessage on or off? Have you tried to restore the phone through iTunes?

how about if its receiving an international text from non-iphone users?
You'd have to ask your network provider if there is any charge for receiving text messages. I know in the US some networks used to charge (I don't know if they do anymore), but in Europe you don't get charged to receive SMS.

I can send and receive to any non iPhone user. I can send a message as a text to an iPhone user but if I'm not connected to cellular data or wifi I do not receive messages from iPhone contacts. From what I understand these message should automatically send to me as texts instead of iMessages but since the update it's not functioning properly. Please help. I've tried turning iMessage off and I still don't receive the messages until after I reconnect to wifi.
I have the same problem! Before the upgrade, if I wasn't connected to the internet, any messages sent to me from an iphone would convert automatically to a text message. I have payg tarriff, so I turn cell data off, as it costs too much to use it. I have wifi at home and work, but if I'm out and about, I don't receive texts from iphone users until I'm on wifi. I get them ok from non iphone users. There was never any problem until ios7

New update sends iMessage instead of SMS to a non-iMessage phone
Old contact that I send text messages too is being sent iMessage even though his phone is an android and not able to recieve iMessage. How can I switch it back to SMS without having to turn off iMessage for everyone else? I've deleted the contact and then enterd as a new contact but still shows as an iMessage. Any ideas or advice?

Thanks for the question. It sounds like your contact's phone number was never dissociated with iMessage. I'm sure you are not the only person that may be experiencing this with his phone number, you'll want to advise him to run through the "How to unlink a phone number" section of this article:

How to unlink a phone number
To remove a phone number from an Apple ID, sign out of FaceTime and Messages on your iPhone. Sign out in the following locations:
- Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
- Settings > FaceTime. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
This should remove your phone number from other devices using the same Apple ID with FaceTime and Messages.
If the phone number is still available on other devices after you sign out of FaceTime and iMessage on the iPhone, you may need to sign out of iMessage and FaceTime on all your devices, then sign in to FaceTime and Messages again on devices you want to use.
Note: If you no longer have access to the iPhone that is using the number you want to remove, reset your Apple ID password.

Well does it?
I believe that would fall under the category of unlimited email/data that comes with the iphone plan. So no they don't.

How do I send a sent iMessage as an SMS?
Previously in ios 6 if I sent an iMessage and it wasnt delivered I could press and hold the message and an option to send it as an sms came up.
This no longer happens in ios 7.
How do I send an iMessage as an SMS after the iMessage has been sent.
ANyone any ideas?
PS I have slected ON in options "send as sms"That only forwards the email exactly as you see it in letter form. icloud wants it sent as an attachment to an email. Thanks for answering me.

I have an iPhone 4, and iOs 5.1. Suddenly I cannot send or recieve SMS/text messages but iMessage is working - any help appreciated.
iOS 5 handles texts differently than previous versions. Resetting the network connections helps, but that didn't seem to solve your problem, and neitherdid the simple reset.
Try deleting old messages from the messages app, then after clearing up a lot, just do a simple restart of your phone. If you want to be extra sure, try resetting your network connections again. I had this same problem. Your last option would be a complete restore of the phone, but I don't think we'll have to go that far. -
Whenever i try and send an imessage to someone that has an iphone it gets stuck at times and won't go through. I then have to send it as a basic text and then it will respond message failed to send what should i do when it does this i need help
The use of iMessage depends on both the sender and the receiver having an active data connection. If either of the two connections are interrupted, the message can fail. The sending of an iMessage differs from the sending of an SMS, and if you are having SMS failures, that would be a carrier concern.

If I am connected to Wifi and send an iMessage to a party that is not connected to the Internet then he doesn't receive the message. How do I force my iPhone to send an SMS instead?
It is an interesting option but I am not sure how it works. I disconnected the other party Wifi and 3G on the iPhone, iPad and computer. I sent the iMessage 15 minutes ago and it doesn't give the small foot print "delivered" but equally said I didn't get the RED exclamation mark on the right hand side of the message in BLUE. So we know that the message was sent but not delivered. I don't seem to have the option of sending by SMS when I tap on the BLUE message and hold.

Hey! So I'm having a problem with sending an IMessage to another iPhone user and they are having the same problem. The problem is; is that I send a message to them it will attempt to send then will say under the message that it was not delivered? So I send it as a normal text message. Weird part is that we both have full service and have the phone bills paid. Lol
There is an earlier thread that was answered by an Apple employee that states they are seeing the iMessage and Facetime servers are down. It is unknown when they will return, however it generally is not an extended period of time.
