IPhone 'SIM failure' and 'invalid SIM'
My iPhone 4 with Bell mobility was working just fine. I put it down and when I came back an alert saying 'SIM failure' appears and then instead if my carrier in the corner, it says 'invalid SIM'. Should I take my phone to Bell to get my SIM replaced or go to apple? And is this a hardware problem?
Try removing and re-inserting the SIM. If that doesn't fix it, get a replacement SIM from Bell.

I really need help I just got my iPhone 5 yesterday and its telling me "sim failure" and then "invalid sim" shows up on the top left corner. I had an android before so I didn't need a SIM card so I went to apple and they gave me one and them went to sprint to activate my iPhone to my number but it still shows those annoying messages!!!
this is my second nano sim and i made an appointment at apple and they swapped my iphone for a new one and still the same should i call customer service? its getting me so ****** cause i have to pop the sim slot everytime it tells me sim failure so it can go back to normal then in 5 mins it shows up again

after inlocking my iPhone 4 iOs 6.0.1 it shows no service when i used a new sim .
If it is showing invalid SIM error, then the unlocking is not complete. Depending on what carrier authorized the unlock, most require the phone to be restored before the unlock is complete. Once you restore, you should receive a message stating Congratulations, your phnoe is unlocked. Then you restore the backup of the device from before the unlock restore.

IPhone 4s and Sim failure and No service issue

Few gentlemen told me, to replace sim card. Here is what I did,
1) I am from India. I was using Vodafone 3g micro sim. Everyday, 4-5 times in the ideal mode I got messages like Sim failure and invalid sim. I have to restart my iPhone everytime. Then only it was working.
2) I posted the question, people said its my card problem
3) I bought new BSNL 3G micro sim card for iPhone. I inserted the card and got 3G working.
4) After 3 hours, I saw No service message. I waited for some time, i went to outside to see if it was a network issue. Nothing changed.
5) I rebooted my iPhone, it immediaetly picked the network.
6) After few hours, again it lost and said no service.
7) I then didn't rebooted it.
8) In the morning, I saw Sim Failure and invalid sim message. Useless
9) I now rebooted and Sim is working with 3G network.
Now please ,
is this iPhone issue? It is for sure. I am tired now. Battery is dying and with this Sim Failure and No service, I am totally disappointed.Hi Ahelpyguy...

My Iphone 4S and it was working fine (5.0) until i upgrade to 5.0.1(9A406).
Now I am facing alot of network issues. I get messages liek NO Sim , SIM FAILURE.
I even restored the sowftware from ITUNES but i am still facing the same problem.
I was using Vodafone first but I heard that due to problem in micro sim reader of Iphone 4s i shd use a 128 K or 64 K sim.. Since only Airtel provided 64K sim ...I installed that in my phone. But still i am facing the same issue.
I would appreciate if you can tell me whats Tweaked version of 5.0.1.
the current software installed on my phone is 5.0.1 (9A406).

My iPhone just said "SIM failure" and now says Invalid SIM in the upper corner. What's this all about? Any ideas on how to resolve this.
Looks like the Sim card had a catastrophic failure. Burnout, short somethng like that.
You can try to take out the tray and reseat the sim card inside and see if that gets it back.
Also try resetting the phone at least once by holding down the home and power buttons until the Apple Logo shows up.
If none of this works you'll have to contact your cell carrier to get a new sim card, as it probably fried and is no longer functional. -

ThanksWithout contract is not the same as unlocked. The update to iOS 7 relocked
the iPhone to the wireless carrier to which it was originally locked. You must
contact that wireless carrier to see if they offer unlocking and if you qualify.
If you used jailbreak or other hack to unlock the iPhone initially, the method
used may prevent a legitimate unlock from succeeding and may render your
iPhone unuseable. -
My iphone 4, sim failure and no service
I just replaced new Iphone 4 last week in Apple store, Chadstone and after 3 days, it says sim failure and no service suddenly. I tried many times, switched off and on but still says no service. Do you have any ideas and solution please.
Hello, I have been having the same problem which seems to have occurred out of the blue. I pay my phone bill on time and as far as I know I haven't used up all available space. Sprint service can be problematic but this time the Sprinters were not responsible. To be honest I can't tell you why this occurs. I can tell you how to fix it :) just reset your phone (first reset the settings and if that doesn't work, restore the phone to factory settings). If this does not clear your problem you should talk to your service provider. I just reset my phone's settings but 30 minutes ago, and BAM all's well again. :) lets hope it lasts ;) good luck.

I've bought an Iphone 4S in the UK. Using the phone in Argentina, it displays the "No Service" and "Invalid SIM" errors sporadically. The only solution is to reset the phone (switching it ON/OFF). Also most of the time, the SMS are not sent nor received...
The phone was checked by my carrier (phone company, Movistar) and they replaced the micro SIM card. bear in mind that there's no Apple shop here and the Iphone 4S is NOT available in Argentina!!!

I've received an email with a solution to the problem; you have to update to the new iOS 5.0.1 firmware (9A406)!! It's been 1Hour and so far my iPHone 4S is working just fine. Please follow carefully the below instructions:
RUN A FULL BACK UP BEFORE DOING ANY OF THIS
1. Download the new iOS 5.0.1 firmware (9A406) from the internet. (800MB)
2. Connect your iPhone 4S to iTunes.
3. Once connected, two options will show: ‘restore’ and ‘check for update’.
4. Press down SHIFT and choose ‘check for update’. (if you click ‘check for update’ without pressing down SHIFT doesn’t work.)
5. Select the new firmware (9A406). Note that the file should be renamed ‘iPhone4,1_5.0.1_9A406_Restore.ipsw’ (instead of ‘iPhone4,1_5.0.1_9A406_Restore.zip’), i.e. changing the file extension from ZIP to IPSW. iTunes will now work alone and update your iPhone 4S.
A full back up is recommended before firmware upgrade.

Really disappointed in apple !Before getting all pouty, why don't you bring your phone into Apple for evaluation. If found to be defective, it will be exchanged.

Just trying to see if there's a fix for this.
Several months ago I was having this problem, it went away and now it seems to have surfaced again. It started this past Saturday and I'm not sure why or, what to do about fixing it. My phone will sporadically display the message 'SIM Failure' and then where the Verizon logo and signal bars are, 'No Service' is displayed. If I power down and restart the phone, it does 'Searching' a bit before finally showing he bars and VZN logo. Sometimes it will maintain that for an hour or so before another SIM Failure message, sometimes, I immediately get the message and have to restart my phone over again.
I didn't think these VZN iPhones had SIM cards, I thought we were CDMA or something like that. I've had the phone since February so I don't know if this is a device issue or a software issue and I'm trying to figure out if I should try to return it before my 1 year warranty thing is gone.
I'm on 6.0.1 (10A523) version of iOS so I believe I'm current as far as updates to the phone go.
Any help/information/guidance would be greatly appreciated.It sounds like both of you have tried some great steps to research what's going on with the SIM errors on your iPhone 4s devices. The Version 6.0.1 (10A523) is the most recent software from Apple. And although you don't use the SIM on the Verizon Wireless CDMA technology here in the United States, the iPhone 4s come with the awesome capability to use a SIM card for global GSM services too. Which is why you're seeing messages about a SIM. i unlocked my iphone 4 factory and i upgrade to 6.1 when i connect it to itunes it apears

This iPhone is not currently setup to work with carrier you're attempting to use. Please insert another SIM card from a supported carrier or request that this iPhone be unlocked.It sounds like you or someone else hacked the phone to unlock it. Updating it locked it to the original carrier.
How did you unlock it? The ONLY legitimate way is to ask the carrier it is locked to to unlock it. Any other way requires hacking or jailbreaking the phone. -

I put a Tesco sim (02 carrier) in 2 unlocked phones, Both phones are now locked to 02, 02 blame apple, I connect the iphone to itunes and it states that the new carrier (orange) is not supported, Isk this of both 02 and apple, who's phone is this and what right do you have to lock a previously unlocked phone? very angry
Where did you get these phones?
These and other forums are full of people with iPhone unlocking problems - the net result is that, as others have said, is:
If you bought them from Apple they will be (and stay) unlocked.
If you bought them PAYG from CPW then they will lock to the first SIM activated.
Any other contract or PAYG phone iPhone bought from the networks WILL be locked by them too.
However, all is not lost. The original purchaser can request for the phones to be unlocked by Apple, via the carrier. The carriers usually charge around £20 to do this, or gratis if you're out of contract.
You are the original purchaser, right? If not, you need to get in touch with that person and pray they'll help you out. -

The 4G LTE SIM card in your device contains information about your plan, device and more. You can set a SIM PIN so others won’t be able to access that information if your SIM card is removed from your device.
If you remove your SIM card and insert it another device (e.g., when you upgrade to a new device), you’ll be asked for the SIM card PIN. You can find your SIM card PIN in My Verizon if you’ve forgotten it. Or, if you’ve entered your SIM card PIN unsuccessfully 3 times, you’ll need the PIN Unblocking Key (PUK) to unlock your SIM card again. After using the PUK, you’ll need to create a new PIN for your SIM card if you want to secure it again.
To locate the SIM PIN / PUK numbers for your 4G LTE SIM card:
Navigate to the Overview page in My Verizon.
Click My PIN and Unblocking Key (PUK) under About My Device.
Your default PIN and PUK will be displayed in a pop-up window.
Click Close when you’re finished to return to the My Verizon Overview page.
You’ve successfully located your SIM PIN and PUK.
