IPhone Simlock

Hello, I bought an iPhone 3GS, but I didn't realize that there was a Simlock (Swisscom) and it doesn't work with my provider. Can I simply bring it to the Apple Store to remove the Simlock or what other option do I have?

No.
Apple does not unlock iphones. The carrier would have to do this and most carriers do not offer unlocking.

It is not a problem. it is the way it should work.
ALL U.S. iphones are carrier locked and CANNOT be legally/legitimately unlocked at all.
AS wjosten says, return it if you can.

letztes Jahr habe ich mir über eBay ein iPhone gekauft!
Ich habe es 1 Jahr nicht benutzt, und heute bei Apple angerufen und erfahren dass ich einen SIMLOCK von SFR habe!
Im Internet konnte ich erfahren, dass man ein bei SFR gekauftes iPhone nach einem halben Jahr entsperren lassen kann!
Ich habe natürlich sofort angerufen, die sagten mir aber ich brauche den Namen des urprünglichen Käufers! Ich habe meines ja über eBay gekauft, der Verkäufer ist also sehr schwer oder nicht herauszufinden! Ausserdem wurde mir gesagt, dass iPhone mit der angegbenen IMEI wäre so gar nicht im System (Austauschgerät?).
Nun stellt sich mir die Frage: Wie bekomme ich mein iPhone geunlockt?
Auf eBay gibt es zahlreiche Angebote die legal einen SFR Simlock entsperren für um die 140 Euro! Ist das seriös und klappt wirklich? Auch ohne Namen des Verkäufers?
Ich hoffe ihr könnt mir schnell helfen!

ich habe ein gebrauchtes iphone gekauft, welches aber aus uk von o2 ist.
Aber es hat eine simlocksperre, diezwar schon seit über einem jahr schon abgelaufen ist aber immer noch nicht freigegeben ist.
Weiß vielleicht wie man die simlocksperre entfernen kann ?

I guess people will just have to get used to the fact that I'll be e-mailing them instead of texting, unless it's an emergency.

Mein cousin hat das Iphone 4s in Nederlande gekauft als er da für 5 monate wegen der Arbeit gelebt hatte. Beim Umzug hat er alle sachen von dem Iphone verlohren außer das Iphone 4s an sich jetzt habe ich das iphone von ihm bekommen weil das Iphone ihn runtergefallen ist und dabei irgentwie das system kaput ging, daraufhin hat er es mir gegegen und sich ein neues handy geholt ich habe dann das iphone resettet nur das problem ist jetzt das das iphone simlock gespert ist und ich nicht weiß wie ich das jetzt entsperren kann damit ich es selber benutzen kann brauche bitte hilfe....

I am from Turkey and will be visiting USA. Im thinking of buying an iPhone 4 without a contract as its much cheaper there(about 1/3 of the price of here). But as far as i read on the internet even if you buy without a contract the phones come with an at&t simlock. Is it possible to buy an iPhone 4 without a simlock in the USA?

Hi Cagri, Yes good for you doing some research before you buy. As stated the US iPhone is simlocked and cannot be officially unlocked. If you are going to be close to Canada you can buy a unlocked phone from an Apple Retail Store. If you do so, please bring a micro sim from your carrier to ensure it will work before you head home. Also note that is you buy an iPhone from another country, if any warranty issues you will need to ship the phone to someone you know in that country, Canada or UK, and have them bring it to Apple for service. All at your expense. While you may be initially saving 1/3 of the cost, it could cost you much more down the road.

Living in Switzerland - iPhone with UK simlock

I bought an iPhone on the internet (which was still under plastic) and I have a problem with it.
I was told it was unsimlocked but it seems that it wasn't true.
I checked that and it seems that it's simlocked... in the UK.
As I live in Switzerland, it's a real problem as I can't activate it at all (as I don't have the operator's sim).
Is there a way I could unlock it (of course a legal one) ?
I think it shouldn't be that hard to make the operator accept to do this but I don't even know with which one it's blocked.

Only the carrier an iPhone was sold as carrier locked with can officially unlock the iPhone, or send the unlock request to Apple on the owner's behalf.
How did you check to determine the iPhone is carrier locked with a carrier in the UK? However you checked that should also provide the carrier the iPhone is carrier locked with.
If not, ask the seller or make an appointment at an Apple store if there is one nearby.

Can I purchase simlock free iPhone 5 in Hong Kong and later use it in the Netherlands?

I'll be in Hong Kong for about 1-2 weeks or so and would like to buy the new iPhone 5. Will this iPhone work in the Netherlands or Finland?
And is the only way to purchase a simlock free iPhone 5 through the website?
Can I reserve today (26th Nov) even though I'll be arriving in Hong Kong in 3 weeks? (They say if its available you'll get the info to pick it up the next day)
Is there a big chance that the iPhone will be out of stock, mid/late December?

How to unlock a Iphone 4s on Verizon 11.2 simlock, out of the Netherlands (Europe)

The Netherlands i found out that my Verizon IPhone 4s that i got in the states
had a simlock!!! I really would like to use my iPhone here in Holland but not
with Verizon (don’t have it here). The problem is that I’m not a customer
anymore so i cant log into the customer service website. I understood that
there were some 60 day's etc. conditions for American who stay in the US and
tons of phone number to call and speak with the customer service to discuss an
unlock but I won't call them from the other side of the world because of the
large phone bills.
So I
need some help to get rid of the simlock of my iPhone 4s with Verizon 11.2. I prefer to do it legally.
Are
there some alternative conditions for a European who would like to use his
phone, but don’t want to or/and can't use the Verizon connection? I think there
should be! I'm prepared to sent my passport (copy), prove of residents that I
rent my apartment here, my work contract for 3 years or,... something ells, so I
can get the simlock of the phone.
Any
official users would like to answer?

I'm not an official user (I don't work for Verizon), but after many posts on the subject of getting a simlock removed I think you may be out of luck since you did not get it done prior to ending your relationship with Verizon. One of the requirements is that you must be a current customer and the phone has to be on an active line (or been on the line at some point...apparently you can upgrade to a different device but still get a sim unlock done on a previous device as long as you meet the other requirements and you have been a customer for 60 days I believe). You can try emailing Verizon Customer support just to be sure...you might get an official answer quicker that way then you will on here for a Verizon employee.

Simlock free iphone stuck in recovery mode

i tried to update the iphone with new 3.1.2 update and the phone just went in recovery mode,hardreset (pushing home and sleep button) just gives "connect to itunes" screen logo,when in itunes i try to do a restore it unpacks new update starts install and then i get "unknown error 2005"
This is a simlock free belgium iphone 3G and i am a belgium "Base" carrier client.
Found nothing on iphone support pages about this error.
I have a backup of the iphone.
How can i do a factory restore without using the latest firmware?cause i think thats what is causing the problem (latest3.1.2update) it was about 245 MB big and took about 20 minutes too download where other updates came in very fast.

I updated my iphone today and received the same message. When I reconnected to iTunes, neither my phone nor iTunes would recognize they were connnected. I went to a local AT&T provided that reset my phone to factory settings, had to reconfigure visual voicemail, etc. my phone is a blank slate. I was told to go home, connect to iTunes and the previously synced information would load to my iphone. I have since connected my phone that was working to my PC, it will not recognize. I followed troubleshooting so a PC will recognize and iTunes would recognize and turned my phone off, then on again. My re-set phone has now been stuck with the Apple logo for 15 minutes, no buttons will power it down. It is frozen in restart and I think I can do nothing but schedule any appointment with an Apple Expert.

If you purchase the phone at the full contract price and have no term left on your carrier contract, the carrier will unlock it for you. That's what I am doing with AT&T. I'll pay the full purchase price for the phone and since I don't have a contract with them, they will unlock it for you. It can be difficult to get it done since most of their customer service is very ill informed but I have had many discussions with them on their chat that I have records of them stating they will unlock any phone if you do not have an existing contract. It's the law.

Eric, you can help low memory problems by periodic reboot. Hold both the power and home buttons until the apple logo appears and the iPad restarts, ignore the red slider if it appears.
The iPad 1 has 256 MB memory, the iPad 2 has 512 MB memory, the iPad 3 and 4 have 1 GB memory.
