Iphone skype and Europe
Hi,
Leaving for France and want to purchase an iphone for the trip, rather then haul around this heavy lap top.
I have a couple of questions about the access to the internet via wifi and the use of skype with the iphone.
is it possible to use foxfire or safari to reach my yahoo.com base email account? maintian a blog on blogger?
and use my skype account to access phone to phone or skype to skype without having an at&t account?
I have a regular cell phone and service with T-mobile( I will not be taking it to France)

like the above post said, it wont work until you activate it with at&t...perhaps an iPod Touch is what you should be looking at. you can check your yahoo account and i'm pretty sure you can do your blogging all over wifi. but i dont believe skype would be available because the iPod touch isnt a phone.

Hello, I've updated the iPhone I have got I have a problem I hope you respond to some of the applications no longer work, such as the safari and skype and many applications are no longer working with the ios7.0.4
Standard troubleshooting...
1. Try a Restart by pressing the sleep/lock button until you see the slider. Slide to power off. Restart by pressing the sleep/lock button until you see the Apple logo.
2. Try a Reset by pressing the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.
3. Remove apps from Recently Used (multi-tasking) list...
- From any Home Screen, double tap the home button to bring up the Recents List
- Swipe up on the app preview card to remove it from the list
- Press the home button when done.
4. If still a problem restore with your backup.
5. If still a problem restore as new, i.e. without your backup. See how it runs with nothing synced to it.
6. If still a problem, it's likely a hardware issue. -
I have an iPhone 3G and I had skype installed before it updated to v.4. Now, during a backup, iTunes tells me i can no longer run Skype on my iPhone because the latest version of Skype is not compatible. Is there any way I can install an older version?
How can I contact Viber support? When I go to their website there's no such thing as 'email us' or 'contact us'.
They may have a do-it-yourself troubleshoot system but that doesnt help my problem at all. -

All you need is a physical plug adapter, not a voltage converter. All Apple chargers work on any voltage from 110 - 240 worldwide.

You need to use the credentials for the iCloud account that was used to turn on the Find my iPhone service.

If you've been walking around for 2 years with someone else's account set up for Find my iphone, then you'll have to get hold of that individual. If you can't, there is no way to bypass activation lock. -
i hv iphone 2g and when i want to install skype it says it need more upgraded software .. so can i upgrade my 2g 3.1.3 software ??
there is no such thing as an iPhone 2G. An origional iPhone can't upgrade any higher than 3.1.3. The next model is the 3G, which can upgrade as high as 4.2.1

Yup, to the MacBook as well. The power supplies are multi voltage capable (100-240vAC @50-60hZ). Any plug adapter with the correct configuration should work.

ok, i saw a line saying "If the app requires entering or logging in to an account, you will need to do this before receiving notifications."
so, that means i must "open" the app in background in order to get push notification??
what i mean by PUSH notification is by double clicking your home button, then press on the apps and CLOSE the app and yet you can get message from your friends. I think iphone cannot do that currently? -
Is there a way to use the camera, apps, Wifi and GPS of the iphone 4 and not have the possibility of receiving text messages and calls while overseas? I do not want to unlock the phone and get sims from other countries. Nor do I want to get international roaming from AT&T.
I've read about airplane mode (haven't gotten my iphone yet) but from what I've read that turns everything off except apps and music. I've also read that you can specifically go in and turn wifi back on. But what about GPS? I'd like to use skype (or something else) for calls and some form of maps (integrated with GPS) while in Europe.

After Airplane Mode is enabled, you can turn wi-fi on and I believe Bluetooth for Bluetooth stereo headphones, but you can't turn on GPS or location services.
When Airplane mode is enabled when powering the iPhone off, it will be enabled when powering the iPhone on. I do this when flying. Turn on Airplane mode before powering my iPhone off when instructed before take-off. When powering my iPhone back on when instructed it is OK to do so, Airplane mode is enabled. -
Can I get a replacement for my iPhone 5s in Europe which I have bought in Middle East?

I bought my iPhone 5s two months ago, when I was in Iran for vacation. Now, it is dead and I can not turn it on!!! Some of my friends tell me that some of these iPhone 5s are factory defect and that is why Apple asked everyone who has bought iPhone 5s and have problem with it, to send it back and get a new one.
I called Apple Customer Service in Europe and told them the story, but I got the answer: You have to contact Apple or one of their agents in Iran for repair. My problem is that Apple has no office or agency in Iran, because the country is under the US sanction.
So my question is: Is there anyone in the community who knows with 100% certainty that Apple in Europe is bound/committed to exchange the defect one with a new one or at least repair it for me?
P.S. I have checked the Apple Support for my Service and Support Coverage by providing the serial number. It is active (Estimated Expiration Date: 15 January 2015) and my product is covered for eligible hardware repairs and service under Apple's Limited Warranty.
I appreciate if someone give me an qualified answer.

The issue here is Apple does not have any presence (Apple direct or AASP) in Iran.
The iPhone, if purchased in Iran, was grey market or used and will not be serviced under any Apple warranty in Iran. -
My situtation is this, my soon to be ex previously set up an ipad with both our numbers and we share a linked itunes/icloud account so if my phone is off he gets all my messages via his ipad that I DO NOT have access to his ipad at ALL. I can't set up my own itunes account (not yet until I leave him) otherwise he will know I am leaving him and it will cause major problems. So I was hoping that if I turn off iMessages on my iphone 5 and just talk to my family via SMS and NOT touch his precious ipad mini, that he wont be able to get my messages anymore and if I turn off iCloud storage and back up as well on my iphone only. Is this correct? Its just a temporary solution I am hoping. I have searched for days and hours and I just cant find this answer anywhere....
Do I HAVE to turn off my phone number off or delete it on his ipad? I am really hoping I can just do this at my own end and not touch his ipad in anyway or have to change my itunes id YET. SMS messages will not go to the iPad Mini. It's not capable of receving them. If you have access and can do it without it causing a problem, remove your iPhone from the Apple ID Support profile:

Click on "Edit Products"
Click on the "X" to the right of the product.
Click "Unregister"
If anyone in your family uses iMessage, they will go to both you and your boyfriend unless you do that.
To be completely safe, you may want to simply use an alternate message app such as Skype, Viber, Whatsapp (assuming everyone has a smartphone) until the issue is resolved. Google Voice will also allow you to send and receive texts to another number on your phone.

Thanks for ur answers !You are correct. There is no other way to recover this material, and yes it would have been a good idea to backup the iPhone prior to the restore. Remember that a restore to a previous date deletes everything on the device and puts it back to the state of things on the date you choose. The texts and contacts would be gone. Did you possibly sync the contacts with a supported application on the computer? That is the only other way to recover contacts. They are designed to be synced with a supported application on the computer, or with a cloud service such as iCloud, Google or Yahoo.

DaphneIt doesn't have to be that complicated, Verizon iPhones come unlocked, just tell VZ you're going on Holiday/Traveling and suspend the service, no need to pay for service if you're not going to be using it. Pick up local SIM cards in the countries of your choosing, pop them in, re-activate iMessage and you're set!
I recommend getting a SIM card from the Three network in England, they have great EU roaming rates and free like-home roaming in Italy.
Set your phone's region to match the country you're in, it'll save from some headaches when calling local/international numbers.
To answer your questions,
1. If you choose not to have a local SIM card, it is good to keep your phone in Airplane mode to save battery.
2. Make sure the two iPhones have different names to reduce sync/restore issues.
3. If husband has an iPhone also, you can chat with iMessage/Facetime, just give him heads up about the new number you'll have. Otherwise, use Whatsapp if he's got an Android. You can activate Whatsapp with your American number or the international number if you choose to get a SIM in Europe.
Also, Get the MagicJack app and/or Google Hangouts, both of those apps provide you with free calling to the USA and Canada using any internet connection. Google Voice is another good way to SMS across the seas.
