IPhone Sleep Button Might Be Broken

I recently noticed my iPhone 3G sleep button might have an issue. It works fine, so I am not too concerned but the button is uneven. The left side of the button is very low. Flush even with the iPhone itself. This isn't something most people would notice but how is your sleep button, even or uneven? is the left or right side lower than the other?
Should I be concerned with this button? Should I take it to a Genius?

I actually have an issue with the sleep button and the software... It seems like the sensor that takes the command from pushing the button for the phone to enter standby, is glitching. I have restored my phone 10 times in the last three days, thinking it was a software glitch.
What happens is, the phone can be sitting still, on a desk, flashing the background back & forth, like I am pushing the button. If I somehow get to the home screen, it will make the "click" noise and put itself into standby. Sometimes, it will miraculously turn itself off, then back on.
I treat my phone like a baby, it's never been dropped, scratched, shaken, and is protected in a case, just to be safe.
I am putting one last effort into it, by doing a long format (doing the reset that takes an hour or so to totally wipe it back to factory-like settings), and seeing if that somehow fixes it. I can't narrow it down if it's hardware based, or software based, as the button doesn't sit lower than it used to, and doesn't "feel" any different. I have a box coming from Apple, just in case.
I've been without it for two days, and will most likely get a crappy refurb (oh wait, "service" model, as Apple calls them) like with my 1st gen. We'll see!

Take it to an Authorized Apple Service Provider.

The Home button is broken and I don't know if the Lock/Sleep button is now broken or stuck as well. I believe there may be a problem with the battery or the backlight. I've had my screen replaced once by some stooges. What should I do?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
When it  says place the iPod in recoverymode use one of these programs.
    For PC
RecBoot: Easy Way to Put iPhone into Recovery Mode
    If necessary:
    Download QTMLClient.dll & iTunesMobileDevice.dll for RecBoot
    and
    RecBoot tip
    For MAC or PC
    The Firmware Umbrella - TinyUmbrella
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

How much does it cost for apple to fix broken sleep button?

Apple does not repair phones. They replace them from service stock.
    US$149 for an iPhone 4.

  • Iphone sleep button looks crooked

Hey i have an Iphone 3GS and when i took off my case i noticed that my sleep/wake button is crooked. at first i thought it was normal but then I compared it with an other iphone i saw it was perfectly vertical from the chrome. it tilted right to left, does any one els have this problem?

Okay this doesn't have to do with the sleep button but with the screen crookedness. No it's not about the tilt issues that ipod nano had back then. It's about the surface. Like if you look at your iphone not directly at the screen but from the bottom, you will see that it is not aligned right, like it's lopsided. one side is a bit up, and other side is a bit down (i'm referring to where the speaker area is), even if you look on the side view from the left and right, look very closely. my iphone 3G also has this, and i've been to the apple store and checked their iphone there and ALL of them have this. I'm not sure if anyone ever noticed it, but i did.

  • Iphone sleep button

my iphone 5 sleep/wake button doesn't always work and i bought it from Zain Jordan. if i send my iphone to USA California will they fix it or change it for me, and how long will it take?

The iphone warranty is only valid in the country the phone was destined for. If the phone was bought from an authorized carrier in Jordan then the phone will need to be returned there. You cannot ship it directly. It must be hand carried into the carrier. If it was bought from a 'shop' then you will need to figure out the original country of purchace and bring the phone to that carrier.

    Hey guys!
well heres my question/problem. Yesterday I noticed my battery was running low and it gave me the 20% battery warning but i wasnt around a charger so i just put it back into my pocket. after a few minutes i noticed that my phone wouldnt turn on so i assumed that the battery just died, so i went home and charged it over night but still no signs of life the next morning.. I cant do a hard reset because my sleep/wake button is broken =\
    ive tried:
    wall charging
    connecting it to a macbook
ive even tried pushing down super hard on the sleep button but all i end up with is nothing on the screen and a really red thumb.

The only way out of Recovery mode is to connect to iTunes and restore. If you cannot access the computer you normally sync with, you will lose all of your content, unless you sync to iCloud. With no backup present, your content will be lost.

  • IPhone 5 Stuck at Apple Logo + Broken Sleep Button

Hi, I HATE MY IPHONE NOW!!
The sleep button is broken for a while and last night I was updating my iOS and when it was restarting it got stuck at the Apple logo. I can't force my iphone to turn off so I can't do the restore steps. What should I do? -thanks

I can't help with the restore, but in case you aren't already aware, Apple has a replacement program for the iPhone 5 Sleep/Wake button and you may be eligible: https://ssl.apple.com/support/iphone5-sleepwakebutton/

  • How can i restore an iPhone 5 from Recovery Mode loop with broken lock/sleep button?

    Hello,
I just tried to delete all my data from my iPhone 5 32gb iOS 7.0.4 (with not working lock/sleep button) to install iOS 8.0.2 and after that the loading bar appeared on the screen. When it finished, the iPhone rebooted and went into Recovery Mode loop and it is still in it (after 3 hours +). Also, iTunes doesn't detect the iPhone at all.
I hope, the solution will be found, thanks.

    Any suggestions?

  • IPhone 4 sleep button broken, out of warranty

My iPhone 4 is about 15 months old and about 3 months ago the sleep button sank slightly and became more and more difficult to use.
My service provider offered me an upgrade to the iPhone 4S for £300, and offered me £220 for the handset considering it was fully functional (to their terms and conditions which were it still sends and received texts and calls, and the software was original. They say they don't take money off for wear and tear). So I took that option, as I was happy to pay the £80 upgrade cost.
Now, they have returned my phone and said it doesn't turn on so they couldnt give me any more than £50 for it. I explained you had to push the sleep button quite hard but it is fully functional. They didn't agree.
So my iPhone is out of warranty (i assume?!) and because of a, quite evidently frequent problem, I am out of pocket.
Will Apple not sort this for me?
And if not, what are my options? It just seems unfair that JUST after I had the phone for 12 months it breaks and puts me well out of pocket.
    Thanks in advance.
    Nick

    In a word no
The warranty is for 12 months and that is that
You could have taken it to Apple Genius bar and they would have replaced it for a refurb for £119 over the counter
which would be worth ,if you also get your Uk carrier  to unlock it first up to £300 on ebay etc anecdotally
In fact you could still take it in for a  refurb exchange and you will have a like new iPhone4
and have a look at this thread

  • Broken sleep button, frozen iphone.

The sleep button recently broke on my iphone 4, and it is now frozen... how can I reset it?
I have already plugged it into the computer and the iphone displays no change, and the computer does not detect the device.

    Try resetting it;
Simply hold the home and power buttons
until it turns off and release when the Apple boot/start up logo appears. If this doesn't work try putting it into DFU mode and resstoring it. To put your iPhone into DFU mode:
    1. First, Open up iTunes, plug in your iPod Touch/iPhone to the CPU's USB port. Turn on your CPU's speaker and make sure it is loud enough to hear.
    2. Hold down the Power button and the home button
simutaneously, until the screen goes black and the device turns off.
    3. Now let go of the Power button, but continue to hold the Home button.
Your iPod Touch/iPhone should have turned off and the screen should not be on.
    4. After around ~10-20 seconds, you will hear a noise (beep/ding) from your CPU as if it had just recognized a new hardware device, now iTunes should recognize it in DFU mode.
    5. After iTunes recognizes the iPod Touch/iPhone, let go of the Home button otherwise it will go into recovery mode and you will have to do the entire DFU process over again.
    6. You will know when you have put your iPod Touch/iPhone correctly into DFU mode when the display is blank and that you do not have anything on your device.
    7. Click restore in iTunes and it should restore your iPhone.
Hope this helps, email me at [email protected] for more help
