Iphone Sleep/Wake button loose

Any ideas of how to actually fix the loose Sleep/Wake button?

Welcome to the club
Try to go to the place where you bought it. Unfortunately, you may have to live 3 weeks without your phone if they send it to be repaired...

i have an iphone 5 that i traded with from a family member. its has coverage but now the sleep/wake button doesnt work sometimes. can apple replace my iphone and give me a new one or is it just something they can repair? i dont have the box or recipit to apple care or the iphone

Apple can fix it without your receipt or box. They pull the serial number from the device and determine warranty status from that.  Hopefully ApplCare was registered to the product before you lost the receipt though.  If not, you can go back to the point of purchase and obtain your AppleCare receipt and Apple can help attach it to the iPhone.

  • IPhone sleep/wake button not working!

The sleep/wake button on my iPhone stopped working for no apparent reason. I cannot lock the phone, decline calls, or turn the phone off! I have installed the new update but the problem did not start immediately after. What happend and what do i do??

I don't think you can fix this yourself....take it to the Apple store.

  • IPhone Sleep/Wake Button Stuck

My sleep wake button is stuck. There is nothing else wrong with the phone. I know it is not covered under the warranty because it was dropped, however, I am extremely annoyed to find out that after not being offered insurance for such an expensive item, (I will not even get started on how I do not comprehend that it does not exist)they do not offer any services to fix the phone either. It is really irritating to pay so much money for a product and not recieve any help when you call the company. I was on the phone for 2 hours today and was told there was nothing they could do. I even offered to pay for them to just fix the button, but that was not an option. Clever solution to refunding early owners $100.

AT&T does not offer insurance on any of its high end smart phones.
AT&T does not offer any repairs on the product. Apple handles all repair services. They will fix the phone for you, but the fee is substantial ($250 for the 8gb phone).

  • Iphone sleep/wake button doesn't work

i bought an iphone 5 from Amman Jordan from Zain and the sleep button doesn't work. so if i send my iphone to California will you change it and give me another one?

absolutely not.  Warranty on the iPhone is only valid in the country where the iPhone was originally sold.

  • IPhone 3G Sleep/Wake button not working

So as the subject says, the sleep/wake button is not working. I'm aware that there are other threads about this, and I have read a lot of them.
    Now onto my problem:
I dropped my phone, but it has a hard cover case so it didn't suffer any damage. The only thing not working is the sleep/wake button. I have tried holding it down, holding the home button AND the sleep/wake button at the same time, and rebooting the phone. Basically, the sleep button does not register, period.
I have not tried restoring the phone, and I have heard that 99% of the time, that does not work.
The button is not stuck or loose, it still clicks perfectly fine. I have taken the iPhone apart the correct way, using a suction cup, and looked at the button. It's attached and snugged in there pretty well, but seems replaceable.
I have checked my phones warranty, and it still qualifies as "Limited Warranty".
Should I attempt to contact the mail-in part replacement service, or should I take it into an Apple store? Suggestions are welcome. Thanks!

You must have a very low opinion of yourself, which is your problem since I assumed nothing of the kind, but if the shoe fits.
And if my reply does not relate to your topic and what you included with your post, you also have a reading comprehension problem, but your suction cup skills are top notch. Providing what you don't want to hear is not the same thing as trolling you twit.
Alright, lets just stop here man. I don't feel like arguing with someone I don't know, especially over the Internet. I appreciate you replying to my thread, but it's gone a bit far now. Just please keep in mind that this is a SUPPORT forum, and all I wanted was a suggestion or help on my problem. Seeing that wasn't provided by you, annoyed me. Don't take this thread personal, and I hope you have a nice rest of the day =]

  • Sleep/wake button works, but not when iPhone is asleep

I just upgraded from an iPhone 4S to an iPhone 5. When my phone is asleep the top wake/sleep button is unresponsive. The home button will wake the phone up, and once it's awake I can use the top button to wake/sleep the phone. But if I sleep the phone (not turn it off but just sleep it) and wait about 30 seconds, then the top button becomes unresponsive. I've tried holding the top button and that doesn't do anything either.
I do not have Applecare for the phone, nor is under warranty.
I tried the Apple top button replacement web site, but it reports that the phone isn't in the serial number range of affected phones.
    Any ideas or suggestions?

    Hi Craig Volpe,
If you are having issues with your iPhone's sleep/wake button not waking the phone up when it has been asleep for more than 30 seconds, you may want to try some things to troubleshoot.
First, quit all running applications and test again -
iOS: Force an app to close
Next, I would try restarting the iPhone -
Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset
If the issue is still present, you may want to restore the iPhone as a new device -
iOS: How to back up your data and set up your device as a new device
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    Best,

  • I was eligible for replacement for my iphone 5 under the sleep/wake button program. Took it to apple store and they declined saying hardware failure. I am baffled whether apple is serious about customers. They manufacture defective goods and we are stuck!

The issue started just out of warranty. Had powering on problem and did not want to spend money on repair. After that the phone crashed and refused to power on for 4 months. Now I am eligible for repair but apple store declined saying it is a hardware problem and beyond repair. I am not able to comprehend the attitude of Apple. Obviously manufacturing sub standard products is their fault and we are paying heavy price!!
The company is obviously gonna lose in the long run!!

No it is not user damAged. I would like to clarify that this piece had problems like bugs, power on and off and charging issues. It used to heat up a lot while in use. It is defective iphone to begin with. Now when iphone acknowledges there is a problem, why not replace??
If the phone was not operating as its supposed to initially you could of had the phone replaced under the 1Year Warranty. Apple is only Fixing phones with strictly "sleep/wake" button issues. i.e. if your phone has other issues other than "sleep/wake" you must fix those on your own (if out of warranty) prior to apple fixing the sleep/wake. However if your device is under warranty they will give you a new phone.

  • IPhone top sleep/wake button is not working & Apple Logo screen at startup

I have the original iphone. I have two problems, both just happened tonight at the same time. For seemingly no reason just my iphone external top sleep/wake button is not working. I tried powering the phone off and back on. I tried resetting my iphone, and restoring it. I made sure my Iphone software is up to date. None of these remedies have fixed the button. The button doesn't look broken, it pushes in and out, it just doesn't work anymore.
Second problem is, after I power my iphone off and then back on, the Apple logo screen will continue to flash on and off indefinitely. The only way to get my home screen to appear is to connect my iphone to my computer. Then it wants to sync. After syncing it then asks if I want to "power off" or "cancel". Huh, why does is it doing that? To turn my iphone off I am pressing my Home button down until it shuts off, since I can't power off with the top black button. Is that the reason my phone is having the second problem, because I am powering off with the Home button? Could it be my second problem is not a problem?
My iphone 1 year warranty is over. I can't call Apple Care, there is no apple store near me. I need a solution I can do at home myself. Please help. Even if you think the answer is obvious please suggest it to me. Before tonight nothing was wrong with my iPhone. It all started after I let my 6 and 7 year old nephews play with Google Maps on my phone for like 10 minutes - supervised. I consider myself to be a pretty Apple tech savvy guy, yet I can't figure out if they broke my iphone somehow, nor can I fix these two problems. Please help!

    Jason,
I'm afraid I have good and bad news. Apple sent me a new original iphone. So that takes care of me but does not take care of the issue for so many people like you. I do not know if you can purchase the Apple Care plan at this time. Look into that. It really is worth it. Apple products require Apple technicians in the rare case the breakdown. Apple did not offer me an explanation of how they'll fix my phone or even saying why they sent me a new one. I synced it with Itunes and all my personalizations and apps are loaded back on it. It's like my old phone only shinyer and probably going to last me longer than the old one.
I found out Apple Care covers the Iphone for 2 years past it's purchase date. So I would think that you could buy Apple Care even if you had it for like a year. Then it would at least cover you until the 2 year mark, which after that we're on our own(?). Please let me/us know if you were able to buy Apple Care protection and if they fixed your problem. I am impressed they got me a new phone so fast. I still love Apple.

  • HT1430 My iPhone 4 will not power on.  When connected to iTunes it shows battery at 100%.  Pressing and holding the sleep/wake button does nothing; just a black screen.

My iPhone 4 will not power on.  When connected to iTunes via my computer, it is recognized and shows fully charged battery.  Pressing and holding the sleep/wake button does nothing; just a black screen.  Any suggestions?

Only way is to bring it to the Apple Store and use the warranty if it hasn't expired

  • What should i do my sleep/wake button on iphone 5 does not work properly it only works if i press on the left side of it and my iphone still on warranty i heard its a common problem

what should i do my sleep/wake button on iphone 5 does not work properly it only works if i press on the left side of it and my iphone still on warranty i heard its a common problem

If there's a hardware defect and your phone is under warranty, bring it to Apple for replacement.

  • Problems with my new iPhone 5 (sleep/wake button)

    Hi guys,
I bought my iPhone 5 about 3 weeks ago but unfortunately I am having problems that I was not expecting from apple. My sleep/wake button sometimes works perfectly and sometimes I need to press the button 10 times to work. I called apple support and they said to restore my phone and don't do the backup. I did what he asked and two days after, the same problem happened again. This Saturday, I went to apple store (where is 2 h away from my home) and changed to a brand new phone. Right now my brand new phone, less than 24 h usage, had the same problem as my previous iPhone. I really do not know what to do, I don't know if this is a software or hardware problem and I hope someone could help me.

I was reading some reviews about this specifically problem and some guys said that this is a software problem as long I can hear the button. That makes sense because as you said having the same problem in two devices is rare. I am also testing the case, right now there is no case and till now nothing wrong. At the end of the day I will share what happened
