Iphone sms backup question

Hi,
My mac hard drive has failed and i need to temporarily use a windows laptop til i can afford to have my mac fixed. I want to be able to add new content to my iphone 4 but when i connect it to the laptop (windows xp) it wants to sync and erase the content on my phone. I asked yesterday and was told how to retrieve my music but now im concerned about my photos, email and sms, i dont want to lose them. So, can anyone tell me, will this work:
1) back up iphone to pc
2) sync with pc and allow it to erase phone content
3) restore phone from backup
im hoping this will then let me use the laptop as my main computer allowing me to add new music, apps etc, but leave my sms photos and email as they are. im just concerned that when i restore, the next time i try to sync the pc will still see it as a new phone because before it was restored it was associated with the mac (hope that makes sense!). Also, when i sync/erase the phone with the new computer, will that erase the backup i made? would i be better backing up to a friends computer and restoring from that? or would that associate the phone with my friends computer? argggh! hope all this makes sense! hope someone can help! Getting wife a new iphone..backup questions

Not too good in using itunes. My wife has an iphone and my limit to itunes is putting some songs on my ipod.
I want to surprise my wife with a new iphone this week and before I get her a new one I want to make sure I save all of her content and most importantly phone numbers because I actually want to clear it out before going to the verizon store because I want to transfer her old iphone to my daughters # and have her start using it.
So I guess my questions are...
How do I first backup all of my wife's content on her phone (phone numbers and photos) ?

Hi all,
I wanted to do a restore on my 3GS but without using the backup files that I've created via syncing with iTunes previously. I've managed to locate the file that stored my SMS in the harddrive of my Macbook, but in the form of some sort of database which have to be read/exported using certain software/database browser.
Is there a way that I can put back that file (named '3d0d7e5fb2ce288813306e4d4636395e047a3d28') that I have copied before I restore my 3GS in my current backup (located in home/Library/MobileSync/backup/[some random id]/) ?
Thank for the help in advance... It has caused a lot of troble already and I don't want to lose all my SMS that have been stored since day one... And I certain don't want to jailbreak at all.

A restore is all or nothing. There simply is no other option.
There are programs that can be found online which supposedly will allow you to extract certain data from the backups, but there is no way to selectively restore certain pieces of information to the iDevice.

Lost Iphone 5, Backup Question

I lost my iphone 5 and its not really backed up in the cloud, but I always sync it on itunes and when i went to preferences it says my device was backed up last friday. Does that mean all my contacts are backed up through itunes and ill get them back when I plug in my new iphone??

Two iPhones, one MacBook - sync/backup question

Hi all, I've read through many posts, tech articles etc and still have this question...
My wife and I both got 3G(S)s about eight months ago. She backed up/synced her phone to her PC only once since then. We would like to be able to back up her phone to my MacBook now instead of her dying PC, and also load my HUGE legit iTunes library from our CD collection onto her phone. Also, she is not interested in having my contacts, bookmarks and whatnot synced to her phone.
My question is, will it be possible to use one computer/iTunes to share the same iTunes music library, while saving her contacts, calendars etc separately? Stated otherwise, will iTunes back up two separate iPhones and allow the syncing of a common music library?

In regards to iTunes content, an iPhone can be synced with an iTunes library on a single computer only and photos can be transferred from a single computer only. When transferring iTunes content and photos from another computer, all iTunes content and photos transferred from a different computer will be erased from the iPhone first.
There is no device limit for the number of iPods, iPads, and iPhones that can be synced with the same iTunes library and iTunes account on the same computer. Each device can have its own sync preferences with iTunes and iTunes creates and maintains a backup for each device.
When syncing two iPhones with the Address Book and iCal under the same computer login account, the contacts and calendar events will be the same in the Address Book and iCal and on both devices. There is an option to sync select Address Book Groups and select calendars only with each iPhone, but the contacts and calendar events with both devices will be available in the Address Book and iCal.
If you want to keep contacts and calendar events completely separate, you need to create a computer login account for your wife. You can enable Fast User Switching to make the process of switching between multiple computer login accounts a fast and easy process. An iTunes library can be shared between multiple computer login accounts. Your iPhone's backup will be updated and stored under your computer login account, and your wife's iPhone backup will be update and stored under her computer login account.

Icloud or itunes backup, only backs up app data, not the app itself.
so if you restore as new, then there is no app data on your phone, you start out new...

Iphone 6 backup to iCloud not working

Initially I had the issue where my phone was restoring from iCloud for 2 weeks and never finished. I was unable to do the upgrade to 8.1 because of this, so I canceled the restore and tried to do a backup to iCloud. I let it run (Estimating time remaining...) for a long time, like 30 minutes or something. Each time I tried this it would error off saying it couldn't finish the operation. One time it said it was going to take 2 days to complete the backup, but then it errors off as just mentioned. So I did a google search for "iPhone 6 backup to iCloud not working" and found a link to the forums for the incessant restore issue, it said to do a manual backup through iTunes, then immediately do a restore, then do the upgrade to 8.1.
However, I still have the issue of the backup taking forever.
Anyone encounter this issue and find a fix?

Want to use new laptop for iPhone 5, but will iPhone 4 backup on old pc transfer ok?

I'm about to set up my new iPhone 5, but I want to set it up on a new pc, not the one I previously used for my iPhone 4. I've done a backup of my iPhone 4 with the old pc, but want to plug the new one into my new laptop. Will everything still transfer? Is there anything else I need to do/think about before registering it?

You can restore the iPhone from backup on the older computer, then transfer content to the new computer.
You can also just move the backup to the new computer and move the iTunes library to the new computer. Then you're new computer will have all the info that was on the older computer.

How can I recover photos from old iphone icloud backup to new one?

Hello, I had an iPhone 4 which I lost and inside there were some great photos that I want now to recover. In the meanwhile I bought an iPhone5S and I just realized that inside the iCloud backup menu is saying that there is a backup of 3GB of my old iPhone. How can I see if in that backup the photos are there? I have connected my iPhoto App to iCloud but it only finds photos from my new iPhone and not the old one...

Hi, Tiago, maybe you can get help from data recovery software. Now things get easy now.
As far as I know, there are three ways to recover deleted contacts and photos from iPhone 5 with iPhone Data Recovery.

Itunes could not back up iphone because backup could not be saved on the PC

I am not able to backup my iphone. After the last step it always comes up with this message "itunes could not back up iphone because backup could not be saved on the computer" . I tried all solutions mentioned earlier like changing time zone, deleting previous backups & manually backing up, changing user admin, running itunes as an admin, etc .
I guess my problem lies in the Camera roll. I deleted all my pictures in it and I am left with 3 images. I guess they are corrupt as I am not able to delete them. When I try to delete them from iphone gallery, it crashes. When I try to delete it from external devices like when its connected to PC, same problem occurs, cant delete these 3 pictures. I guess they are corrupt.
Can you please let me know what to do.I dont know want to restore to factory settins

I doubt that corrupt files are the problem. It is more likely a space or permissions issue. Is the hard-drive on which iTunes is stored close to capacity? Do you (or the particular user profile you have logged on with) have the requisite permissions to save to that drive?
Otherwise, do you get an error code? This might point us in the right direction.

If you never backed up your phone to iTunes and never backed it up to iCloud all of your content is gone forever.
