Iphone SMTP Issues with Apple 10.6 server.

Hi!
I use multiple iphones and blackberries at my place of employment. On the iPhones, sometimes we get errors on sending email, the error saying "The recipient "......@...." was rejected by the server because it does not allow relaying".
I am wondering if this has something to do with the provider cell network. I say this because this is not a constant, dependable, consistent error. Additionally, I have multiple authentication methods set up on the server, and changing around the configuration (ie turn ssl off, change from md5 to password) etc will get the phone to work. Then you can change config back to what it was and it will work as well.
Right now I have 2 iphones, configured exactly the same for SMTP, 1 phone approx 1 mile away from where mine is. My phone works, the other does not. I am waiting for the user to bring his phone to me so I can do a side by side comparison.
BTW this is in Vermont and Edge is a Rampant disease here......(IE we are on edge more than 3G)

Allan,
I am not sure that I dont allow that, IE im not sure where to set that(this is for allowing an employee to use a personal account through the authenticated SMTP of the company server). I thought as long as the user was authenticating through SMTP, which IS required, then it would in fact allow you to send whether using a personal or company.
These security settings, for me, were set up out of the box, for the most part and have been pretty happy with the security level. I used common sense and logic when configuring my first Apple mail server, however I would have to go through it again and be more diligent about documenting in order to tell you what I set everything to. I had some help from Apple Support.
Anyway im not sure what the personal accounts settings are, we DO allow employees to set up their own accounts, as long as they provide the configuratiuon and can set up themselves.
This particular case seems to be more user created, not server side issue.
To re-iterate, no relaying here. I send emails to Comcast regularly abuse@ to tell them to stop allowing their business accounts in the US to blast out spam....

Hi a couple of questions to start:
    1. Do you have an Apple ID? If not it is a good idea to create one so that you can use iCloud - here's a link for creating and Apple ID: https://appleid.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MyAppleId.woa/wa/createAppleId
    2. Also what settings do you have on your iPhone in iCloud? Is anything entered?

You are absolutely WRONG. Apple bears no responsibility in this at all. YOU purchased a STOLEN phone. You are guilty of receiving stolen property at best. Take it back to wherever you bought it and demand a refund. Failing that, turn it over to the police. You got ripped off. I'm sorry you wasted your money, but there is NOTHING Apple or anyone else can do for you. Only the rightful owner of the phone can unlock it.

So, about a week ago my macbook pro started having lots of issues: wifi connectivity, slow performance, sound issues, spotlight wasn't working. After going through the issues with apple support, they decided the best course of action was to erase the hard drive and do a reinstall. Since I have a recent backup this seemed like a good enough option. They were kind enough to send me a copy of the snow leopard disk to do the install since we couldn't get it to complete through the disk utility. Not sure why, since it says we are fully connected, it just never completed.
Anyway, so now that you have the background here is the new issue. The macbook pro keeps spitting out the disk I'm trying to install from. Disk utility and using the 'Startup Disk' function from the apple menu doesn't read the disk.
Can anyone suggest a solution to this vexing problem?
    Thanks in advance.

    Jeremy.Laurin,
have you tried agb76’s approach here?

Why did carefully over heating my 4s restore the wifi function? This, after 2 months of mysteriously grey out wifi buttons, loads of time trying to resolve issue with apple tech only to be told I must pay $199 to repair the problem. I'm disillusioned now

Is the Wi-Fi button greyed out?  Try this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1559
Also, make a backup to iTunes of the device.  Then restore it as a new device.  If you still have wi-fi greyed out, then contact Apple again, and explain that you believe you have a hardware issue.  They may still ask for a $19 deposit, but if it is actually hardware related, then you won't be charged the $19.  Only if it is software related do you get charged that $19.

  • What might be issues with Apple TV's compatibility with Samsung LED TV's, specifically the 5550 or 5500.

What might be issues with Apple TV's compatibility with Samsung LED TV's, specifically the 5550 or 5500?

I am shopping, with a focus on Samsung, and was told by a Samsung rep their TV's were not compadible with Apple TV. I found this difficult to believe so I wanted to pursue with persons knowledgeable with Apple TV.
If I find that Samsung is not compadible I wanted to determine which lines, e.g. Sony, might be compadibile, as I wanted to use Apple TV.

  • IPad air 2 not downloading or updating apps. Is this an issue with apple?

I Just got the iPad Air 2 Wifi 2 weeks ago. I was able to only update a few apps which was very slow, then nothing all together. Can't download or update my apps. Keeps turning in a circle and not loading. Is this an issue with apple? This problem started with my iPad 2 before I upgraded thinking there might be little or no support for it by now. I cannot be going to iTunes every time I need to download an app. Doesn't make any sense.

Thanks Brian. Did that already severally. Didn't resolve it. Had to had reset and reset settings before it started working. It's good now. Thanks once more.

  • IPhone 4S issues with wi-fi and iMessage & Apple support

Against my better judgement and experience I bought an Apple iPhone 4S when it was released.  I should have remembered the extensive pain I experienced with Apple's so-called "support" when I had iPod/iTunes issues but I bought into the promise and the hype by Apple's marketing.  I'm still wondering why this product includes only 90 days of support if Apple is so confident in it's reliability.  So I was having increasingly frequent problems with my iPhone connecting or remaining connected to known strong and good wi-fi connections.  It would arbitrarily disconnect from my wi-fi and go to a 3G connection which of course causes me to use data on my Verizon data plan.  Usually I didn't notice the change in connection until I was waiting far too long for the requested information to show up.  As you can imagine, that issue will push me towards exceeding my data plan quckly and thus cost me more money on my Verizon bill.  Not acceptable.
Then in the last two weeks I started having an issue with iMessage/IM in being able to reply to messages.  I could read them, I could open and close the app, but once I tapped in the field to type my reply it froze.  I could not type anything.  I could close and reopen the app, same problem again.
So I set up a call with Apple's glorious support system for which I had only a few days left on my extensive 90 day support term.  The lady that called me was friendly and fun to talk to.  No issues there.  She had me initiate a backup after checking a few things.  Because the backup was going to take about 20 minutes, she asked if she could call me back.  I was fine with that, no need to make small talk for that amount of time.  I got a call back but it was from a guy at another location. This concerned me but he said he had all the notes so I was hopeful.  He advised me that if there was some corrupt SW on my iPhone, restoring would only put the problem back on my phone.  I'm a sales guy in the IT industry, so I bought that.  He said he was going to set my phone back to "new" as if I just bought it, then would restore all my apps, settings, contacts etc back to my phone.  It was a big leap of faith for me, but I went along because they are supposed to be the experts. After spending close to an hour on the phone with this guy, who was also polite and fun to talk to, he has me start the restore process and waited on the phone with me for a while.  The process was taking quite a while, I think around 30 in total so about 20 min into the process he has me stop the restoring session and tells me I can restart it later.  He wants to check that my wi-fi is working.  It was, so he asked if there was anything else I needed.  I said just to put my phone back to the way it was with my apps, contacts, music etc.  He told me that would complete when I finished the restore.  I had to go to my company's office for the afternoon and spent much of that time resetting everything that was on my phone to how it was before.  I noticed that the iPhone had pulled every single contact from my Outlook db on my personal computer (where iTunes resides) and all the contacts that I had set up on my iPhone were gone unless they were also in my Outlook.  The really aggravating part of this issue is that I have about 800 contacts in my Outlook, many of which are people I don't want or need to have on my phone.  The contacts I had entered on my iPhone over the past almost 3 months were the people I call or call me.  All that data appears to be gone.  I have since restored twice and the same thing occurs, everything is set back to "new" status and nothing is the way it was.  I am now so angry I could crush this phone with a hammer and switch to the competition.  Neither of the very nice people who "helped" me told me I would lose any information.  In fact, both assured me my phone would be back to the same setup I had previous to their help.
I ask you folks at Apple, what is the use of backup if it doesn't back up AND restore all the information?  We have a saying in my business, "you can back up the entire world, but how well can you restore?".  I don't know if some step was missed along the way, or I initiated a restore from an incorrect target, but I am not a happy customer.  Add to that the fact that I'm locked into a 2 year contract on this thing, and have had issues with poor support before and I'm pretty angry.  I've gone into my local Apple store to ask a question about my iPhone's capability.  It was a simple question that required only a "yes" or "no" answer and I would have been fine either way.  What I got from the pasted on smile Apple associate was a sales pitch on the product I was showing her!  Continously smiling and telling me the world is beautiful does not answer questions or resolve issues.  I was eager to buy an iPad in the near future but with the pain I seem to get everytime I buy an Apple product, that purchase is never going to happen.  You can block me here, blacklist me or whatever you like to do to keep people from reading negative comments about Apple, but I will be posting this same story elsewhere as well.  For the amount of profit you make from these devices, I expect much better service and much less aggravation.
    Sincerely,
    Rick S.

The nice thing about owning this overpriced POS is that Apple not only doesn't support it, but also doesn't want to hear about anything negative regarding it.  So I spoke to the so-called "support" people at Apple who successfully screwed up my contacts beyond repair.  I got a nice email from Apple asking me to rate the support I got.  I was actually civil and described the issue tactfully.  What do I get in return?  Nothing.  Not a damned thing!!  You're luck you've got me by the short hairs on a 2 year contract but I'm still tempted to throw this POS through the front window of the nearest Apple store!!  Not only will I be replacing this phone with a competitive product but I won't be buying anymore Apple crap.  I guess when you con 27 million people into believing your rhetoric and sales lies, you don't have to care whether some customers get screwed or not.  I'll be going back to Verizon and threatening legal action if they don't take this electronic dung heap back but I'm sure the teams of lawyers Apple and Verizon have on staff have insured that I have no rights in this matter and you're free to screw me anytime you please.  Sad. I used to love Apple as a company and your products.  Now you're just another Microsoft with more trendy looking junk.  I've had it with you.  If any of your executives are brave enough to talk to me, please contact me at your convenience.

  • IPhone Config Issue with Cox

sigh Where do I begin? I know I'm not the first to post, but I do not see an answer yet.
I configured my iPhone last night and have Cox as my ISP. I also have WiFi at my house. Ultimately, I cannot get email to function properly on the iPhone - mostly with sent items. On WiFi, the icon simply spins and never sends. I initially received failure errors until I configured the SMTP for Cox on the iPhone.
I researched and found some options. The easiest/best was the mail assitant at this address: http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/mailhelper/
However, when on WiFi, the device throws the items into the Outbox and simply doesn't send. I was able to shut off the WiFi connection, which forced it to Edge, and it attempted to send (albeit very slowly). After configuring for cwmx.com for SMTP, it worked a few times - again, very slowly.
I was able to receive emails, but the send function failed more often than not. I couldn't duplicate the sending of emails again after those two. I'm aware of port 25 being blocked by Cox and, yes, I configured SMTP properly for Cox with the username and password entered in.
The only solution I can see is to turn on WiFi when I'm in a hot spot or in my home only to use Safari or YouTube (Internet connectivity), but otherwise shut off the WiFi when I'm out of the house - thus forcing it to Edge for email. I don't want to set up a different email address (hotmail, gmail, etc.) - everyone knows my Cox address - I simply want to get this to work effectively with Cox's email servers.
    Thoughts? What am I missing?!?

Nathan ~ I haven't read your link yet, but I will. I'll use it equally at home and out and about. I have it currently config'd for cwmx.com and have wireless of while using Edge.
A little confused - You first stated, "When you are on WiFi at home, you will need to disable WiFi in order to send..." but then stated, "If you expect it to be mostly at home, configure it with the outgoing mail server you have on your computer." If I turn off the WiFi, it'll kick over to Edge to send - I understand that. But if I configure for the same settings for SMTP through Cox, it would, in effect, try to use Cox while at home on WiFi. The latter I cannot get to work - that's part of my issue. It just churns and churns with no sent messages.
Too bad there's not a ProxyPal type of icon on the desktop that would, by simply touching it, toggle from WiFi to Edge. ProxyPal works on my laptop for proxy settings much the same way - it just simplifies things.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~
    PC2K07 ~ This made me chuckle - "...switched back to edge quick to send…" It's not quick for me by any means. Painfully slow with full bars on Edge. I do some business through my current email account and want to keep this as simple as I can. As a result, I'd really, REALLY prefer not to set up an additional email account - even if it's used for forwarding emails.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~
TH3 ~ I tried the web access for Cox. Although it works, it's not truly effective. I'd much prefer the mail client through the standard icons.
    Thanks, all.

  • Solution: iPad/iPhone Login issues with IIS as Reverse Proxy (Android and Windows Phone works)

    Hi,
I had issues with iPad/iPhone access from external and tried a lot. Now I found my solution I like to share.
I setup a IIS on Windows Server 2012 with ARR 2.5 and Android and Windows Phone could login but not iPad and iPhone.
The IIS Log on the reverse proxy showed:
    2013-02-26 12:03:31 <IP> POST /webticket/webticketservice.svc X-ARR-CACHE-HIT=0&X-ARR-LOG-ID=1996c8d7-09d0-4310-8da4-a8dfb7940e28 443 - <ClientIP> Lync%202010/1.6+CFNetwork/609+Darwin/13.0.0 - 401 0 0 124

First Request gets a 401 while anonymous. Second try would be with authentication but it never reached the internal front end server.
After I installed a fix for ARR

    Hi,
This resolved our problem too!! So happy after 2 weeks of messing around with just about every setting recommended from all types of forums and rebuilding our reverse proxy I was at a loose end.
Our environment is Lync 2013 Enterprise, Lync 2013 Edge, IIS as Reverse Proxy on Server 2012 using ARR 2.5
We had Android and Windows clients working but no iOS devices at all. In the iOS log we were seeing
<h1>Server Error</h1></div><div id="content"> <div class="content-container"><fieldset> <h2>502 - Web server received an invalid response while acting as a gateway or proxy server.</h2> <h3>There is a problem with the page you are looking for, and it cannot be displayed. Installed the HotFix from here:-

Rebooted the Reverse Proxy and iOS clients worked straight away for both Lync 2010 and Lync 2013 on both iPhone 5 and iPad both.
I hope this helps others as I was losing the plot :-)
