IPhone Software/Recovery Mode Issue

After updating my iPhone Software a few moments ago, my iPhone appears to no longer work (I can't get past the apple icon start screen, which keeps refreshing) and iTunes is saying that the iPhone is in recovery mode. I now am being offered the option of restoring the iPhone as the only way to get it working again. Is there any other way here to not lose the 700 photos and other personal information I have amassed on my iphone and get my iphone working again (my software update seems to have also wiped all my photos of off iPhoto). Help very much appreciated.
Thanks,
Antal

Hey iPhone Owner 17,
Restoring the iPhone is the only option when it is in recovery mode. You can try resetting though: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305743
You should have a backup in iTunes from the last time the iPhone was synced. Check iTunes> Preferences> Syncing. That backup will recover the pictures taken on the iPhone.]

Just restore and after restoring, iTunes will ask you if you want to recover from backup or setup as a new iPhone.

You generally get that error code on a jailbroken phone ?
If it is Jailbroken then I am afraid you will get no help here.

  • TS1717 whilst downloading the Iphone software..it has come up with a message of itunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iphone before it can be used with iTunes..if I do this I will lose everything..what can I do?

i was downloading the latest software upgrade when the message "Itunes has detected an Iphone in recovery mode. You must restore this phone before it can be used with Itunes" came up. My option of I phone recovery mode says that it will restore the Iphone to factory mode losing all information.
is there anything I can do to prevent this?

If the iPhone is in recovery mode, all data is already lost.
    Restore it.

  • Am trying to sync my new 3gs to itunes.Says "iphone in recovery mode.Must restore the iphone before it can be used with itunes" Am worried bout doing this as phone came with a note saying " Do NOT restore or update software on itunes when asked otherwise

Am trying to sync my 3gs to itunes, keeps coming up with a notice saying! iphone in recovery mode. Must restore the iphone before it can be used with itunes.
Am really worried about doing this as the phone came with a note enclosed saying "Do NOT restore or update iphone software on itunes when asked to otherwise unlock will be lost"
Is it safe for me to restore or will it block my phone?
    Can anybody help me please?

Sounds like you purchased a phone that was hacked to run on a network other than the one it was originally locked to.
Where, exactly did you get this phone?  If it's already in a state where it says it must be restored, you don't have a choice. If the phone was hacked, it will be re-locked to the network it was originally locked to. ONLY the carrier it is locked to can legitimately authorize unlocking the phone.

  • Iphone in recovery mode after software update

Hello, I have just downloaded and upgraded my software on iphone 4.
It seemed to have taken about 2-3 hours.
There was an error (which I missed) and now I have on my phone the white apple sign, on my itunes it says - "Itunes has detected an iphone in recovery mode. You must restore this iphone before it can be used with itunes.
My only option on itunes is to restore to original settings, which Im guessing I will lose all my data etc?
Does anyone know of an alternative solution?
I have held down the home and power button but no luck.
    Please help!

    Try the steps:
How to perform a recovery-mode restore
If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch is already showing the "Connect to iTunes" screen, please go to step 5.
Connect your USB cable to your computer but not to the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch until step 3.
Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
While pressing and holding the Home button down, connect the USB cable to the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. The device should turn on.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the Connect to iTunes screen. When this screen appears, you can release the Home button:
Note: If the image of a battery appears, let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some charge, and then start with step 2 again. If you don't see the Connect to iTunes screen, try these steps 1 through 4 again.
iTunes should automatically open and display the following message:
"iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes."
Note: If iTunes not open after two minutes, please open iTunes yourself.
Use iTunes to restore the device.

how do you solve a error 1015 when restoring a iphone from recovery mode?

This error is generally exhibited when someone tries to downgrade iOS. See this support document http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3694
This is the part you are looking for.
    Errors related to downgrading iOS
The required resource cannot be found: This alert message occurs when your device has a newer version of iOS than what is available in iTunes. When troubleshooting a device that presents this alert message, go to Settings > General > About and check the version of iOS on the device. If it is newer than the latest released iOS version, the device may have a prerelease developer version of iOS installed. Installing an older version of iOS over a newer version is not supported.
Error 1015: This error is typically caused by attempts to downgrade the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch's software. This can occur when you attempt to restore using an older .ipsw file. Downgrading to a previous version is not supported. To resolve this issue, attempt to restore with the latest iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch software available from Apple. This error can also occur when an unauthorized modification of the iOS has occurred and you are now trying to restore to an authorized, default state.

  • Update Sent iPhone into Recovery Mode

A friend told me about the update so I connected my iPhone to my computer and chose "Update." I got an error that ended with my phone in "Recovery Mode." iTunes recognizes it as an iPhone in recovery mode and I choose "Restore" but what seems to be most of the way through the restore I get an error saying (direct quote) "The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (6)." After I first had problems I updated iTunes, but that didn't help. I'm on hold with phone support. I've yet to talk to anyone.

I also experienced the "recovery mode" issue. After distilling some of the recent posts here and related topics, here's what I found worked for me. (1) Delete iTunes 7.6 update, download and install iTunes 7.6 from Apple's website. (Good idea to back up your iTunes library just in case). (2) If you have tried several restores of the iPhone without success, navigate to //user/library and delete the several backup files there. (3) Reset your iPhone (simultaneously press home and power key until Apple logo appears). Turn iPhone off (press power key until screen blanks). (4) Plug in your iPhone and you'll hopefully see that the software and firmware is being restored. (This takes a while). After that, you'll see the message that your iPhone files are being restored, however you have them set in iTunes. One note -- though I'm not sure why, having your iPhone plugged directly into your machine's USB port rather than through a hub may prevent device polling from corrupting the iPhone restore process. This worked for me -- not sure if similar process would work on Windows boxes or not. After about an hour of messing with it, now have updated iPhone fully functional (again) with new features.

iphone in recovery mode,i'm restoring and updating to itunes but download cannot be completed...
my phone wont open, i can't even turn the power on.
    what to do? pls help
    (iphone 4  and  iphone 4s)

So I just did this on my iPhone 4 and it worked like a charm it unlocked it immediately. My phone was put into recovery mode and I know that not all data is deleted it just puts the phone into a sort of hibernation in order for the files to stay uncorrupted. I went to http://www.recovery-ipad.com/iphone-stuck-in-recovery-mode.html  downloaded the software it unlocked my phone in a matter of minutes. Calls, messages, photos, apps, and voicemail was all there as if it never happened  If you leave it unregistered you don't have to pay for it works for either windows or mac. Hope this helps!

  • 4.2.1 update downloaded to my imac, but has put my iphone in recovery mode!!

Hi,as the title suggests yesterday I downloaded update 4.2 to my imac and when it finished downloading I got the message,"itunes detects an iphone in recovery mode. You must restore the iphone to be compatible with itunes." So I clicked on the restore icon and after a couple of minutes I get the same message about being in recovery mode.
I've been on the support site but nothing, checked out a couple other sites aswell, downloaded Recboot,iRecovery, tried on another computer to restore, but nothing is happening.
Love my apple products, but so p#####d off that when something goes wrong it's a nightmare.
Please can anyone give any advice that I haven't already tried.
    Cheers

What happens when you try to restore, does it give you an error?
I had a similar problem. Went to update from 4.1 to 4.2(.1) and every time it failed and left my iPhone stuck in recovery mode. Usually it failed with the error 1013 or 1004 - which according to Apple are hardware issues. THEY ARE NOT.
There is a simple fix for this: If you are on a windows PC:
    goto:
    C:\windows\system32\drivers\ect\
and if there is a file called: hosts.umbrella (or something very similar) then delete it.
There should also be a file called: hosts (or something very similar) - Open that with your favorite text editor and remove any line which has: apple.com
Then save the file, restart your PC and begin the update again, all should work fine.

  • TS2776 Itunes has detected an iphone in recovery mode

When i updated Itunes and then updated to the latest Iphone update, I get the message that Itunes has detected an Iphone in recovery mode. You must restore to connect to Apple's Itunes.  I have uninstalled Itunes and all other recommended software in a the recommended order and reinstalled and I am still getting the same error message.  Not sure what else to do.

OK, so I have now plugged the phone into the laptop, and opened I-Tunes.  I tunes on my lap top says it has "detected a phone in restore mode" and the only option is to go back to original factory settings.
Nothing I press on the I-phone (a 4G) will move the icon, and I don't want to go back to original factory settins (do I?).  Seems as if that will remove all the apps.

  • IPhone 5 recovery mode freezes on and on

Sorry for the big story, but it is a big problem:
While installing iOS8 my iPhone 5 froze (plugged in directly in MacMini).
I tried a lot, but nothing worked.
I decided to restore the iPhone. Here's where it got realy bad.
iTunes version 11.4 (18) starts unpacking the software; prepares iPhone for restore; the Apple logo appears on the iPhone and the progression bar, but than nothing. iTunes shows: Waiting for iPhone. Once I even waited for 14 hours, but nothing.
So I unplug the iPhone and iTunes shows: "The iPhone [device name] could not be restored. An unknown error occurred [9]." Number 9 might have to do with security settings (but why would it show this when I unplug?). Turned of the firewall in OSX 10.9.5, problem not solved. After unplugging, the same display is shown on the iPhone (so no 'connect to iTunes' logo). It just stays like that for ages.
When I press the home and off button together for 10 seconds the screen goes black. After that it does not react to turning it on or off.
So replugging the phone, iTunes shows this message: "iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes."
I press o.k. and 'restore iPhone', and the whole process repeats itself.
What did I try so far:
Rebooting iTunes, reboot OSX, DFU mode, change USB port, restoring with and without SIM-card, using TinyUmbrella (did not work, changed original setting back), Redsn0w (did not work because Recovery fix does not support iPhone 5)
After 2 days I'm getting rather hopeless.
    Who has the right solution?

I am having the exact same problem. After resetting my iPhone 5 with iOS8, I was restoring from a backup and it went into this mode and won't come out. I have tried everything.

  • In the middle of updating my iphone 4, a icon popped up saying that itunes had detected an iphone in recovery mode and i needed to restore it. my iphone screen is a picture of a usb cord with an arrow pointing to an itunes symbol. what do i do?

i started to update my iphone 4, and in the middle of the update, an icon popped up saying that "iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. you must restore this iPhone before it can be sued with iTunes."
I really cannot lose the data on my phone. i foolishly did not back up everything ecause there was a previous problem i had with icloud and i needed to delete all of my icloud accounts accept for my contacts.
WHat would i lose if i restored it? and do i need to restore it?
is there another way? if there is, i definetely do not need the update. someone please help me.

First, in iTunes, launch Preferences and go to the Devices tab. Check the date and time of the last backup. If it is recent you can restore it. However, if you mean you have the photos back in your Camera Roll then the backup was already restored. To get your music and apps back it should just be necessary to click "Sync".

  • HT201263 my iphone 5 screen has gone black, and when i plug it into itunes it says we have discovered a iphone in recovery mode, then when i try to restore it it just says waiting for iphone and doesnt get anywhere else. ny clue on how i can fix this prob

when i upgraded my iphone to the new update My iphone 5 screen went completely black and has been like it for 2 days. I have tried holding home and lock,I have tried holding lock and the volume, and I have tried holding just the volume, it still just stays black.
When i plugged it into my Mac the apple logo comes up on the iphone screen. and then on the computer it says itunes has detected an iphone in recovery mode. you must restore this iphone before it can be used with itunes. (as in the below pictures)
