[iPhone]: Sound Format Question

Hey All,
I was just curious if you can tell me what the best sound format(s) is for short audio sounds in an iPhone App. I have a lot of audio editing software so I can change my files to pretty much anything (including Ogg Vorbis). Preferably I'd like some kind of best to worst list like:
caf
wav
ogg
mp3
etc with any notes when applicable. Any other useful knowledge you can think of would be great as well (like only one compressed sound should be playing at a time etc). Thanks.

We've been using WAV over CAF. Couldn't find a way to get MP3s working yet. So I guess the advantage of WAV is that its more universally compatible with wav editors, etc. I think you have to use QTPro to make CAFs (basically an encapsulated AIF)

What sound format is the least overhead for OS X?

I use a typing expander and I have some small custom sound bytes that occur after an expansion. Every now and then I'll notice a pause as the OS deals with tacking on the sound after the expansion. I haven't really paid any attention to the format these sounds are - some are aiff, wav, mp3, m4a etc. For the puposes minimum response time and overhead for OS X, which format is the best. I'd assume uncompressed sound formats would be best because the OS doesn't need to deal with decompressing them, but I'm not sure. Note that I also use these sound files on my iPhone and iPad.

googling around seems to indicate that Linux has HFS+ support built in but you might have to disable journaling on the HFS+ drive you want to access from linux. that should not be a problem with a secondary drive. I don't do linux but when I boot from the ubuntu live CD I can read and write to my OS X drives without any extra preparation.

I know that iCloud backs-up apps and other stuff to your phone incase you want restore from a back-up if you start a New iPhone. My question is if I start a new iPhone (not use the restore from back-up option) and redownload apps like (games, Instagram),

My question is if I start a new iPhone (not use the restore from back-up option) and redownload apps like (Games, Instagram), would my pics show up on Instagram and would my Games show it was saved and the acccomplisments will remain from the last place I left out.

Icloud or itunes backup, only backs up app data, not the app itself.
so if you restore as new, then there is no app data on your phone, you start out new...

Used to convert all my videos into iPhone mp4 format using Any Video Converter - then add it to my iPhone 3GS. But last few days, I cant add video files to iTunes. and the iTunes doesnt even specify the reason except for that "files are not supported"

Everything is fine.
-They are the right format
-Quicktime is updated
-I have tried simply dragging them into the 'movie' library
-I have tried going to file<add file to library
Nothing works, has anyone else had this problem and found a way around it?

In addition to Mike's suggestions, you only have 4GB of RAM and Mavericks does use more RAM than other versions. You may also want to look at the apps that startup on login and the possiblity of upgrading RAM.

Problem for Sound Format.

I have developed a Game and it uses the .wav file works very well in Emulator. I sent that game to Game distributor, This is the reply i got.
We found no problem to implement into Device and it works properly except
with NO sound
Game use "wav" format for the sound. Other Java
games implemented into Our Devise use "smaf" format for the sound. We assume
that if you change the sound format from "wav" to "smaf", the sound problem
will be solved.
Now i hv got everything player to play samf file , convertor in order to convert the .wav into SMAF format.
1) But i dont know How can i play smaf format file using J2ME any Idea.
2) And i looked at the Phone specification it does support the .wav format then why my game does not play sound there.
My .wav format is
Bit Rate : 64KBPS
Audio sample size : 8bit
Channels 1(mono)
Audio sample rate : 8khz
Audio format : PCM

Performed a cleansweep and reinstall of the sound card drivers and so far no improvements.

Can anyone help me with a formatting question? I have a number of PDFs that are landscape format. Every time I open them they default to portrait, even when I change orientation in page set-up and re-save...

You are only changing the view, not the pdf. Use the Rotate command in the Document menu, not the view menu.

No, if you are using the Music app you are playing them on your iPhone.

Cascading lookup format questions

Hi everyone,
I have a couple of questions regarding formatting the cascading look up fields. I have a list that filters classes and mnemonics by educator which works fine however on the entry form, when the "Educators" drop down menu is changed,
a secondary description box appears. The question is, how do I get rid of that secondary description box?
The second formatting question is that when I have filled out the form, on the edit entry form, there is a hyperlink to the list that the cascading lookup is using as a reference. How do I get rid of that link? See image 002 below

if you mean to achieve a cascade lookup in SharePoint new/edit form, after selecting one column, the cascaded column below will show with filtered value, otherwise, the column is hidden, you may consider to use JavaScript/JQuery to show/hide the second column,

If the rattle sound is loudest if you tap gently near the back camera (lens), this is normal with the iPhone 4S.

My iPhone sounds aren't working why is this?

My iPhone sounds such as: Keyboard clicks, new message tones, lock sounds, new mail sounds, or any type of alerts aren't working, music also isn't audible. When I plug the headphones in I can hear everything, but without the headphone I can't hear anything except for the ringer. Why is this? Is there something wrong with the headphone port? or is there something wrong with the phone? I've had this phone since late February of 2008 and haven't experienced this problem until today. I have turned it off and on and that doesn't seem to help. Any idea what this is?

You know what, that did the trick! I think something was wrong with the headphone port because I clicked the side volume button and it kept coming up as "Headphone (ringer)" I put the headphones in and out a couple of times and then it went back to normal. Thanks for the tip!

Uunfortunately they will tell you when you call that the order can't be modified and you'll have to cancel your current order and place a new. Normally this wouldn't be a problem but I'm sure doing so at this point will move your shipping date further than you'd probably want. Speaking from experience with this very same issue. Sorry as I'm sure this isn't the answer you were hoping for.

Thanks for the response! I use Display Record with various sound/video themes and would like to include them in my presentations. For what it's worth, I will make a suggestion to Apple, to make the muting of sounds, during recording a user preference/setting.
